You can just jailbreak your iPhone and put up a 3 logo, right? Or do 3 iPhones have its logo printed on the back?

    • +5

Nope, jailbreak and you're in :)

      • +7

So how do you jailbreak the Fitness First staff?, somethings gotta stop them harassing us?

        • +42
          1. Press and hold belly button and ear for 10 seconds until staff member goes blank. They are now in DFU mode.
          2. Plug your USB cable into their dock and on iTunes hold alt while clicking restore.
          3. Select custom firmware titled "restore_humanity.ipsw". This will override their preinstalled "Seek Max Profit at All Costs" Mod.
          4. If everything goes well they should start functioning like normal iHumans again..
        • +26

Ccrap, your instructions are no good. I bricked mine! It only shows a blank look.

EDIT: I flashed my creditcard and it unfroze, trying to sign me up. I'll settle for factory state.

        • +6

damn when I bricked mine, they called the police.

I guess it depends if you get the iDouchebag or the Stuck-up B!tch 4S version. They seem to respond differently to different touches

        • +6

yeap, the police came and now I have to jailbreak my own cell made of bricked walls, help!

        • +1

annoynimous, have you tried hitting the 'ESC' key. This usually leads to execution of 'internal investigation 2.01'. Often this software goes into loop mode and fails to read obvious lines of code leading to a system failure. But occasionally the program works as expected and if it does, it sometimes leads to 'compensation payout 1.2' and 'lawyer grovelling 6.0'. Worth a try!

  • +5

Does this mean I can just buy a 3 sim and put it in my phone and itll work cos the 3 icon will come up?

  • +8

From what I can gather, as long as you can show you are using 3/voda, you will get free access

So maybe go and get a $2 prepaid SIM and put it in an old crappy phone and show them that for free entry.

  • +4

hopefully u wont have to give them any of ur details so they can keep harrasing u on the phone to join their gyms

    • +7

if you get a $2 sim just give them that number :P

      • +1

Great idea :) combine with yopmail account and the only spam we'll recieve is via regular post - which I don't mind too much as it can get binned straight away!

        • +1

Plus it makes great toilet paper!

  • +6

sorry to be pessimistic but i'm hoping they wont ask for your number, because that will equal months of them telemarketing their memberships

    • I made the mistake of buying a $10 pass for Genesis and they keep SMSing me now, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

      • +1

Genesis play in fitness first gyms now? I'll be there hours before the doors open if they do!

  • +8

Nothing against OP but if this line in the T&Cs "Standard Fitness First conditions of entry apply – see in club for details." means they will take ALL your details for "insurance purposes, etc." and harass you then will have to revoke the positive. But that will be against the Brand and technically the deal but not the OP.

Don't want to be negative but FF suck big time when it comes to dealing with people. They are all about the $$ and don't realise they can achieve those same financials without treating ppl like sh!t.

    • Agreed. Nothing is free with them. They will harrass you until the end of time. I doubt very much they'll let you in without signing you up as a member first (free or not, they'll lock you into a deal of some sort).

  • +10

Stay away from Fitness First, period.

    • +4

Agreed! Honestly not worth the hassle of getting harassed by rabid FF sales people.

      • +3

why not give them fake details?

      • That, and their shitty advertisement-filled house of horrors.

  • +4

As mentioned above, Fitness First use high-pressure aggressive sales tactics. I would not trust them with my personal details. Avoid.

I love Jetts gyms, no contracts, you get exactly what it says on the tin.

Reminds me of this little parody by tvliveonstage, the same people who did the Vodafail video

        Man that chick is hot

      • +1

        Great vid..thanks

      • :P :)

Reminds me of when a new FF opened up nearby.

I told them I was a member of the gym across the street. They confidentially told me, they'd heard the gym was going to close in the next few months and I'd be relocated to another gym! How kind of them … not

That was years ago now :P I'm still with the other gym which hasn't moved and from what I hear, FF is the one now reporting falling profits and membership :P

Guys this is a great deal, especially if you're with Vodaphone.

Rock up to FF, sign up for free.

When FF calls to sell XYZ, your friendly Vodaphone robot will kindly tell them that you're out of range despite working in the CBD.

  • -1

All this AND $84 from MoneyBack?! This is too good! Prepaid sim it is!

    • +1

84 dollars is for a contract. Pre-paid gets 10% off.

    • /Sarchasm

      -.-

  • +1

Just emphasising what others have also warned about.

When they ask you to fill in any forms before you enter, do not give them your real phone number/email.

They will probably ask to hold on to your driver's license/other ID before you enter, so that when you leave, you will have to sit down and chat to one of their "consultants"/sales wh0res before handing your ID back to you.

When they are trying to get you to sign up, when you refuse, notice how many times they reduce the monthly fee, and each time they reduce it, they will say that is the "final price".

  • Fitness first has some pretty bad practises but once you join, they're not that bad, the gyms are large and the equipment is quite good but the best thing is never having to wait for a machine. I'm paying about $20 dollars more than i used to but I hated the old rundown garbage of a gym that is the RMIT university gym. I kinda look forward to going now instead of hauling my ass there when i absolutely have to.

    • +2

Just wait until your membership expires and you decide not to renew it. They're still phoning me up and its been 4 years.

Also - they make it as difficult and expensive as possible for you to put your membership on hold when you have a legit injury and the doctor says no gym for a few months… even though as per t&c i was supposed to be able to postpone it indefinitely (this was 4 years ago though).

Here in Canberra, the fitness first near me is just as packed during peak hours as the Club Lime around the corner [both = no free machines], which has the same machines and costs almost 1/2 the price.

      • "Also - they make it as difficult and expensive as possible for you to put your membership on hold"

Really? I put my membership on 2-6 fortnight holds regularly throughout the year due to travelling, and every time I just rock up and scan in, then ask them "hey btw can you freeze my membership for x fortnights from the next billing date?". It's still $5 per week though. Maybe you are asking for completely free $0 membership hold, as I can definitely imagine that being hard to ask for.

    • Can someone confirm, I've heard when you are training some (not all) Fitness Firsts having people going around trying to sell you PT services etc.

      Is that true?

Also, are there any FF Personal Trainers here? Someone said that FF PTs are not paid by FF. Instead, they have to pay FF for the privilege of being in the gym and must make their income through selling PT services. (I think that's what the "you're not alone, he pays rent" in the music videos referred to)

      • +1

That is true back when i used to be a FF member a few years ago one of the PT told me that they have to pay FF to use their floor and equip and they make their money by selling their services.

        • +2

Yep, i know someone who is a FF PT. It's a similar deal.

There are a lot of people with PT courses on their belt and not that many jobs, so its take it or leave it.

  • +2

Surely most ozbargainers own a Voda prepaid USB modem from when they were hocking them off with a few free gig. U could just flash that and tell them you don't have a mobile.

  • I cannot access the direct link given bu OP. Any help?
    edit: *given by OP

    • Nevemind.. I can access it now

  • +7

before you walk into the gym just turn flight mode on then off, and show them your phone, when it says "SEARCHING" they will know your either on THREE or VODAFONE anyways….

they can't actually expect THREE or VODA customers phones to be actually be in complete working order…take it from me, im on THREE.

*for those who are going to get technical and defensive about a joke, i apologize in advance

  • Lots of hate here!

I've been looking for a gym. Might try the Jetts down the road, only thing stopping me is the $130 signup fee (but the $10ish a week fee is pretty good).

Anyone tried negotiating a lower fee? maybe I can play the 'im a student' card.

    • +3

Find a Jetts that's "opening soon" and ask to sign up as a foundation member. They will most likely waive the signup and access card fee and might chuck in a goodie bag too. Seeing as you can use any Jetts in Aus once you've signed up, doesn't really matter where you sign up. If you're worried, you can just say that the jetts is close to your work. Ozbargain style!

      • +1

Good tips! Ill try this out

        edit: http://www.jetts.com.au/new-clubs

This and the 144 condom thread is why I love OzBargain :-)

      • It sounds like you are saying, make regular payments at a gym to get entry, instead of getting free entry

How is that "ozbargain style" to pay instead of getting in "free"?

        • +1

I'm going to have to disagree with you foundit.

Theres an overwhelming negative review of fitness first here. Willyum was responding to my comment about the signup fees being the only apparent negative for Jetts and he suggested an awesome way around it, plus throw in free gift pack and no contract. On the flip side with the posted deal, you can go a maximum of 8 times and apparently be harrassed by sales people.

If youre a true ozbargainer you might want to wait until december to sign up to jetts and attend FF for free in the meantime with fake information

        • +1

Thanks for clarifying that and my apologies to you guys, for misunderstanding your conversation

        • +1

          Gotta agree with theworks.

Signing up to Jetts bypassing the major initial obstacle, join up fees is a great way to ozBargain it, with only small payments to make weekly.

          I doubt you'll get a long-term gym and 50gb storage for free :-)

Of course nothing beats Free 'as in beer' unless it somehow beats you to death!!!

        • I guess the other bit that puzzled me is, does Fitness First always insist on a joining fee?

I know Genesis Fitness randomly does. I got them to do away with the fee when I was looking at joining.

I thought all gyms will let you do away with a joining fee.

Why do I get the feeling that the title should be reading 'Fist Us First'…(say it fast if you don't get it)

I said this about 7-8 times, I got it but the chick sitting next to me on the Bus didn't. FML
