You can pick up the PSU at MSY for cheaper at $129 (no $14 shipping fee)

The “related product” is wrong, the deal is for the non-K version

Still semi tempted but when the 10700 has been ~$550 with effectively the same numbers, it’s still a hard value proposition, even though I’d have to also change the motherboard for a 10 series and the 9 series drops into my z390

    • Fixed, regarding the related product.

      • Dank

    • yeah im on an i5-8xxx on a z370, was thinking is it worth not having to go about updating a motherboard.
the more i consider it the less tempted i am to do it. but really dont want to rebuild either.

      • I’ve got a mini ITX too and I still have nightmares about that build process. The thought of pulling most of it apart is not appealing!

Very tempted to grab the RAM, think I'll wait and see what Zen 3 requires though.

    • If you want 3600 CL16-ish, just go with Micron Rev E stuff (mostly Ballistix products with AES in the model number). The 3000 CL15 and 3200 CL16 variants overclock with ease.

  • Tempted to add another 16gb of that ram. Still not sure it's worth it on Ryzen to fill all four slots, especially at 3600mhz.

  • 1). Whats the difference between Trident Z Neo and Trident Z X varient, as both are advertised specifically for ryzen.

    2) This or get 3200Mhz and oc to 3600?

    • Trident Z Neo is "optimized for Ryzen" and Trident Z RGB is "optimized for Intel". But I have no idea what they mean by "optimized". Personally I'd get 3200CL16 and overclock if you can guarantee it's a decent IC (Samsung C-die, Hynix CJR, Micron Rev.E). Crucial Ballistix is almost always Micron Rev.E, which is second to B-die.

      • Hey mate, thanks.

There is a different varient from Trident Z called X which they advertise as optimised for ryzen. Notice the X in 16GTRX. In their product description states look for X for ryzen

        • B-die. Ryzen loves low tRFC, and B-die… has low tRFC. You could see gains up to 3-4% by going for just lower tRFC and even 5-6% considering the lower CAS, but do the math and see if that's worth the cost. The gap narrows the higher the resolution.

  • I'm surprised they used the Trident name after the world's worst graphics card company trashed the name with the lowest spec everything around 2000. Cirrus logic did nothing well, but at least they were better than trident.

  • According to this list the Trident Z Neo kit is Hynix CJR, quite a decent IC. I think you could do CL15 on this kit.

  • Buldiing a 3800x build shortly. Any advice if I should get these neo or the royal?? Royal is about $60 more.

  • When the 9900k drops down this price might just upgrade my i5 lol
