I bet most If not all of those saying the MacBooks are a not worth it have never owned one. To get a comparable experience on a windows laptop you’re spending about the same amount of money. The surface laptops are the only ones that match the build quality. XPS is not far behind. I own and use all three (work provided and personal machines).

  • +2

All you guys saying this is too expensive, go check the pricing on razer / xps etc - this is a high end laptop and has build quality to match.

It's not a perfect machine, but it's still bloody good.

  • Re. the arm discussion, as a mobile developer (mostly react native) I bought the MBP16 (i9 version) last year and have the expectation I will still be able to build iOS apps on this machine for 3 years. There will be a big uproar from their development community if they just drop build support on Intel powered macs. They will also see a big decline in app bug fixes and submissions if they just drop support without a long transition plan. Honestly they are a smart company so we will see how it plays out

  • +5

You could get 10 years from this MacBook if looked after so 87c a day lol, we have a 8 year old 13" mbpr paid $1500 still going strong.

    • +2

      Exactly!

My MBP from 2011 lasted until last year! ~8 years! Had the logic board replaced and HDD replaced both under warranty, no charge.

Just purchased a 2019 MBP last year and am expecting the same life if not more. You get what you pay for!

I have used all sorts of Windows laptops for Work and see how quickly they die after 2 - 3 years. (Dell, Lenovo, Surface Pro)

    • +1

What makes you say a Windows laptop couldn't do the same? Had a ThinkPad for about 12 years, the thing just doesn't die. Also owned a Windows desktop for about 18 years. With an SSD the thing would still be great as a home office PC.

    • Still on the first unibody late 2008 Macbook (not pro) that is running Mavericks! looked into upgrading to High Sierra, but don't want to stuff around with it. Just upgraded the SSD and RAM. I have to admit it is running as a desktop now though…
In saying that, I'm still running a Surface Pro 3 which is 5 years old and is still going strong.. I'm thinking of upgrading just for something new and nicer to use.

Apple overpriced, locked up tight garbage. All these fools that buy apple products continue to encourage this morally bankrupt company.

    • +4

I don’t see how people spending their own money on the computer they want makes them foolish, or how it hurts you.

Apples competitors aren’t great examples or moral purity. Most of those competitors would give an arm and a leg to be Apple. If they could be Apple overnight they would be. If you can’t see this then you’re as blind as the Apple fanboys you chastise.

    • -1

      ok lol

  • Great price on this!

  • +1

Im no fanboy but until you can run Mac OS properly on a non apple macbook its silly to compare hardware specs.

Its not even like Android & IOS where there are plenty of solid reasons to use Android over IOS — MacOS is generally superior to windows (for the majority of people).

  • Is there a new one coming out?
Or just the updated graphics card?

Also, anyone know if it’s possible to price beat with officeworks on the 1TB 16”?
I can’t find any stock in store in Sydney or Brisbane. So seems they won’t price beat.

  • -3

    Lol overpriced junk (Apple)

    • +2

      Worry about your own junk.

Why is it, that every time someone posts an apple product, people rant about the pricing. There's a market for MacBooks, I don't have one, but I can see why people would prefer to have one. I think people need to see that value is depicted by the person, it's got nothing to do with you. If you're a gamer, and that's all you do, then yeah, a MacBook is probably going to have less value than a PC for YOU. Why are you trying to convince people that things you find higher in value are a better purchase for someone else? You don't know them? Can we just respect other peoples tastes and values in different things, rather than launch into the fact that an iPhone right now doesn't have a refresh rate of 120hz… it's ridiculous. People keep picking the good and bad from various things, from various devices, it's a personal preference. Your idea of getting 'ripped off', is simply an interpretation that you don't see the value in it, so why would anyone else? It's downright ignorance. The debate about Android Vs iPhone has been going on and on, both are good operating systems in their own right, both have hardware components that are great. Just get on with your lives and stop trying to throw 'the right device' down peoples throats.

Sorry about the rant, but I'm getting over it.

Anyway, good find OP, if I were in the market for a new PC, I would probably get something like this.

It is strange isn’t it? What I’ve always found odd is Apple users are often slagged off as being part of a cult, however the only people I ever see trying to covert anyone are the Windows/Android crowd. When you see an XPS or Lenovo post you won’t see any Apple fanboys going on a rampage in the comments. From what I can see the cult is the anti apple cult. They’re emotional and aggressive over the products that strangers are buying. It’s utterly bizarre.

And why do people refuse to put any value on things such as the aesthetics of a product, or the value of privacy, or how a product doesn’t creak etc. These things matter to some people, and are worth paying for. But the people who hate Apple seem to only care about a spec sheet. Which is fine that’s their choice, but respect the choice of others to put a value on other attributes of a product, please.

      • +1

It’s very strange. Samsung used to be the underdogs, and people would see value in both the phones. Now we have a bunch of people arguing about Apple non stop for weird reasons, see the post below that I commented on. It’s almost like they’ve read a few news articles and then apply it to things that Apple apparently ‘does’. They read, “batteries affected by os”, and assume it means all phones or whatever. It’s almost like they’re just saying anything to complain about Apple, the person that I commented on underneath was very misinformed, have no idea what he was trying to say.

People who are complaining about the prices of iPhones, haven’t commented on the fact that Samsung released a family of phones that were way more expensive than the iPhone range, I can’t grasp some people’s arguments.

I’m not biased toward either OS nor phone nor any device at that. People who like Samsung like the android system for a reason. I use the android system on a daily basis. I also use iOS on a daily basis I also use Windows on daily basis. It’s all good stuff.

Apple is garbage man. They sell you cables that continually frey in the same spot, then when you go to buy a new one you can't buy non-genuine because they have made it so hard to use third party chargers. They wind down speeds on the iPhone without telling you, then offer a 'free' battery replacement to try and curb the PR damage - then you go into the shop to claim it and they tell you it is 'bent' and that they won't consider replacing it unless you need send it away for an evaluation at a cost of $99…. Still no guarantees it will be replaced.

Not finished. Then they make it impossible for you to transfer anything from iPhone to android when you decide you've had enough…..none of the apps work reliably.

Then they charge you ridiculous amounts for extra storage on the phone and provide no expandable storage. When you say no to that they give you sweet FA cloud storage and try and charge you a motza to upgrade.

Then you try and take your macbook air to get a button replaced… Sorry, need to basically replace the whole thing.

I could go on and on. Apple are amongst the worst companies in the world and I hope they go bankrupt. Keep giving them your money fools.

They did this to protect the battery from being destroyed. They took it away and then offered free replacements for the iPhone 6…. that phone is old as hell.

Not finished. Then they make it impossible for you to transfer anything from iPhone to android when you decide you've had enough…..none of the apps works reliably.

This is dumb. The play store and App Store are completely different, what do you want? Smart Switch for Samsung allows you to take your shit from your iPhone onto your Samsung with ease? You can’t run iOS apps on android because programmers use different programs.

Then they charge you ridiculous amounts for extra storage on the phone and provide no expandable storage. When you say no to that they give you sweet FA cloud storage and try and charge you a motza to upgrade.

yeah, they charge for more cloud storage. Samsung does this and so do google? They don’t have expandable memory for OS reasons from the past, they also believe micro sd would affect the speed of their system. Android is great because you can read expandable memory, with 128GB for the iPhone 11 most people don’t need an SD card. So, if you want a phone that can hold a terabyte of storage great get a Samsung, a lot of people don’t need that.

Then you try and take your MacBook air to get a button replaced… Sorry, need to basically replace the whole thing.

If it’s in warranty and not caused by you, they will just replace it. If you’ve messed up the board and it’s not in warranty take it to a repair shop.

I could go on and on. Apple is amongst the worst companies in the world and I hope they go bankrupt. Keep giving them your money fools.

You didn’t really prove anything. You’ve just proved that you’re misinformed or, I don’t mean to be rude about this, but you’re not thinking clearly. You’re also a little behind with what was having battery issues and how the OS works with applications in respect to a google store and App Store being different apps…

I mean if you want to go on. You should keep going because you haven’t really shown me anything. Back to my point that each to their own and you’re picking at things that don’t matter to other people.

        • "They did this to protect the battery from being destroyed. They took it away and then offered free replacements for the iPhone 6…. that phone is old as hell"

Lol. They did it because they didn't want to bear the cost of replacing it. I even told them I didn't want warranty on the battery. And they didn't offer me any replacement so I don't know what you're talking about. The phone wasn't even bent - it was BS.

"This is dumb. The play store and App Store are completely different, what do you want? Smart Switch for Samsung allows you to take your shit from your iPhone onto your Samsung with ease? You can’t run iOS apps on android because programmers use different programs"

It tells you whilst using these apps to turn smart switch off! Smart switch does sweet FA for transferring iPhone data. All the rest of the comments about different programmers etc….blah blah blah. I don't care about all the technical hogwash - I just want the damn thing to transfer. All excuses.

"yeah, they charge for more cloud storage. Samsung does this and so do google? So, if you want a phone that can hold a terabyte of storage great get a Samsung, a lot of people don’t need that"

Samsung charges, but don't charge as much. And with expandable storage there isn't a need. Lol about speeds….. You sound like you're from the Apple marketing department. If Samsung can do it then so can Apple. And I need the space for all my porn.

"If it’s in warranty and not caused by you, they will just replace it. If you’ve messed up the board and it’s not in warranty take it to a repair shop"

Stock standard response….. Do you work in an Apple store? I bet when someone rings you up for tech support you give them the classic level 1 advice…… Turn off your router, disconnect it, and turn it back on again. It's not in warranty……the button broke. I wanna replace the keyboard like I can do easily on any non-apple laptop. But Apple don't want that clearly.

"You didn’t really prove anything. You’ve just proved that you’re misinformed or, I don’t mean to be rude about this, but you’re not thinking clearly. I proved plenty. You don't want to listen because you're a butthurt Apple fanboy.

Some legitimate complaints. But as usual blinded by Apple hate.

        1) Samsung stopped updating my $1500 Note 5 two years after i bought it. Is this better than a slowed iPhone ?

        2) Samsung pushed out security updates from google 3-9 months late. Really nice.

        3) The iPhones being slowed were receiving the latest iOS update when they we’re five years old. On the same day as the latest iPhone. Android manufacturers aren’t doing that. But that fact is always ignored.

        4) The Samsung and Microsoft laptops I’ve bought are glued together and if out of warranty you’re boned if anything fails. I don’t see how these are any better than Apple. I’ve found the support much worse actually because it’s almost non existent .

What’s completely bat sh1t insane is people still recommend Lenovo over Apple even though Lenovo was preloading adware/spyware into their laptops before shipping them.

Samsung preinstall Facebook and don’t let you delete it without rooting the phone ??

Anyway end of the day, a lot of these competitors do things I would find unforgivable. But people don’t seem to care. And I’m not going to berate them for that because it’s their money and their choice.

      • You must be a kid, learn to unplug the charger by the end not the cable doh.
