          • @F1ProjectOne: Where can we get G7 1660 Ti for $1,584?

            I bought the G5 SE for $1,686.76 two weeks ago… 🙆‍♂️

  • +3

Just check the MPN. The eBay listing MPN is GN77D603AU, and the Dell website confirms MPN https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab… that this model is a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2070 8GB GDDR6 (does not say MaxQ).

Dell do have a MaxQ model https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab… with a different MPN.

Considering the closest 17" gaming laptop is the Strix G17 for $2800 (https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-rog-strix-g17-173-fhd-core…) this is a good deal!

    • hmm interesting. good find on the MPN research.

    • +2

Just thought i'll comment this here since

After clicking on the more info link above the video card, it'll take you to this link which shows what graphic cards each dell gaming laptop can come with
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/help-me-choose/cp/hmc-g-seri…
this specifics that the G7 17 Gaming Video Cards comes with a NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2070 8GB GDDR6 with Max-Q Design, although it doesn't specific it while customising

      • +1

Maybe an impending refresh? You'd be in every right to return this if MaxQ, using the MPN numbers as reference. The fact that they do list the MaxQ in the description on the 15" models, but not 17", suggests that Dell don't just gloss over it - they do specify where MaxQ is and isn't.

At $2k though….., I am looking at this old Dell Inspiron 15" with 7700HQ and thinking…..you need to go! :-) Any takers :)

RGB bar on the new model too!

        • so i just Spoke to Sai @ dell support on those dodgy chat windows. sent her the ebay link address. And she said its a

          2070 Super ?

… i dunno. Why can't Dell just be precised, Max-Q, Max-P or Super..

          • @jt0505t: I called up Dell technical support, they told me it's a 2070 Max-Q.

I think the technical guys are more knowledgeable.

I wish it's a super tho. Instant buy if true.

            • +1

@Jacko3000: Ok, i take your word for it. Expect a 2070 Max-Q, anything better is a bonus.

              • +1

@jt0505t: Do gimme a buzz if it's a Max - p or super. Hopefully the special is still on, ill instant buy!

    • You’re right it’s interesting they mention Max-Q on a different machine, and there is no mention of Max-Q on this particular machine.

  • does this fit a spare SSD/HDD storage space?

    • +1

yes upto 1tb m.2 ssd ( thats what the dell person said)

      • +1

This is what I got from ebay messages after asking how many ram and storage slots this item had and was available.

        Hello,

Thank you for your recent purchase.

We offer upgrades on the warranty and software of our machines through a custom listing on eBay prior to purchase. However, the items we sell have fixed hardware configurations hence, we are unable to make any upgrades to the hardware components to any of our machines. Apologies for this.

Here are the RAM and Storage slots for this unit:

        • Memory:

        Memory slots: Two SODIMM slots
        Memory type: Dual-channel DDR4
        Memory speed: 2933 MHz
        Maximum memory configuration: 32 GB
        Minimum memory configuration: 8 GB
Memory size per slot: 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB

        • Storage:
          Two M.2 solid-state drives

Should you upgrade the unit by yourself in the future, we highly encourage for you to go through a certified Dell service centre or through our Technical Support, to ensure that the parts added are compatible with the unit.

        Hope this helps.

        Kind regards,

So the ram slots I assume are full using 2x8gb but there should be one more m.2 slot since one m.2 slot is being taken up by the 512gb.

My next question is what is the best value m.2 ssd to put in and can we really only add 1TB max?

Hoping to put in a 2TB m.2 down the road.

  • quick one,
Anybody knows anywhere in Aus selling Ryzen-9 laptop with 2060 or 2070 on it?

    • +1

Yes Umart was selling the Asus A seties 2060 but a really really bad screen.

      • thanks mate , I'll check it.
I found one as well in Amazon AU but 14" and also low RAM and HDD.

  • +3

Lol at every dell representative says differently about the gpu model.

    • +4

Yep i just spoke to one and he said 2070 non max q. Lol we need to get this sorted

      • +1

I've spoken to 4 Dell reps.

        Ebay site - says it's not max-q
Dell sales website - says not sure, referred me to technical support team
Technical support team - says its max-q
Dell rep (who made the original coupon post) - says its max-q

        I am confused.

  • Can someone please give me honest opinion of why I should NOT buy this?
I cannot see any better deal for a gaming laptop under $1999 considering this one is 17inch, 144hz, 2070 etc etc.

Only thing holding me back is its a Dell…..??…… any risks here?

    Thanks for feedback!

    • +3

why is it a risk? probably they have the best support & service, brand being dell is an upside too imho.

    • +1

Dells are heavy. That's a decent reason also unknown thermals as none has reviewed.

Other than that its pretty decent value for money for a 10750h laptop with a decent screen.

    • There is a high chance of getting a gtx 1080 laptop with 32gb ram and even 4K screen and more storage but you will need to get an Australian power plug as there are lots of these high spec laptops selling cheap but from the U.S.

      Also not new but used.

      So no warranty.

But have seen a couple gtx 1080 laptops slip by under $2k but sometimes customs duty tax kills it but there are some close winners there if you are willing to wait and gamble and forgo warranty.

      • I got the Dell. bang for buck!

        • Same it's pretty solid.

  • +2

The listing on eBay and the Dell website clearly omits Max-Q and they have another laptop with a 2070 Max-Q. Using the GPU search filter shows the same thing. You'd be well within your right to return it if it's Max-Q, as that would be false advertising. Would be nice to have 100% confirmation first to save the hassle though.

  • 5 left in stock, I have bought this one as well.

    • 4 I just bought one too lol

  • +1

very nice deal, my housemate snapped one up immediately after looking for months, thanks OP!

  • And…… she’s gone!

    • +1

Back in stock. Looks like they’ll have 100+ in stock.

  • +1

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514053

Wondering if i should wait for unboxing day or black friday

  • +2

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/513777
This was on sale during black Friday for $1495

  • Can we add additional warranty on it after purchase?

    • +1

Yes you can, you'll need to contact Dell after receiving your laptop and they will add the additional warranty to your laptop service tag.

      • Great, thank you!

      • +1

any one know much extended warranty is? trying to find it on their website…

        • +2

$158 for 1 extra year, total to 2 yrs.

          • @kml22: Is it worth paying the extra $158 for 1 extra year or can we claim the 12-24 month period under Australian consumer law? I've heard of this on other products but not sure on laptops and dealing with dell.

            • @nataz6: I've had no trouble claiming warranty after factory warranty expires with dell.. save your money

            • @nataz6: ACL likely covers you for 2 years.

              1Yr Accidental Damage Protection $94.25

2Y Premium Support and Onsite Service $158.85
3Y Premium Support and Onsite Service $264.75

  • Damn it, I caved.

    Seems like a good price.

    • It really is - you won't be disappointed. I have last year's version from Nov. It's stellar and plays everything.

    • +1

      Must resist……

      • +1

do it! no other bang for buck closer than this!

        • So I got a refurbished laptop for 1600 aud.

Do you think I should return it and get this?? Mine is Max Q

          • +6

@sn809: yours is $400 less, CPU is a gen older but not by any means massively slower.
Biggest difference is 15.6 screen VS 17 inch.
            But still overall $400 less.
I would spend the $400 towards an external monitor instead.

Personally I would stop looking at laptop deals since you already have a decent one.

          • @sn809: Link for this?

            • +1

@baldur: Its a refurbished item. So you need to keep checking dell refurbished website and see what you get. Can check once a day early in the morning.
I was waiting on a G5 SE that all those ppl are returning but got this instead as it was too good to pass with the 240hz screen as well, will get an amd with the newer APU processor for sure later.
@kofs2s Its the curse of Ozbargain lol.

  • Would someone kindly upload the vbios when you get a hold of your unit? I'd like to flash the maxq 2070 bios with this one's.

  • Very tempted to get one but my 5 years old $2k Asus gaming laptop is still on life support and won't quit anytime soon.

Why does the Dell Alienware M17 R2 Gaming Laptop 9th Gen i7-9750H 16GB RAM 512GB SSD RTX2070 cost $720 more than this one with an inferior CPU and Max Q GPU? It is because of the Alienware badge or a much better screen?

  • A 6 core i7?? What's the point of that over a i5?

  • Now that's a laptop, from specs, to design, to size.

But it needs a Ryzen 4000's series, or 3000 series if the price is right.

But we talking about dell here.

  • Note to potential buyers: This laptop doesn't support G-Sync.

  • i7-10750H is better than 4800h?

    • +2

Na, It would of been deal of the century if it had a 4800h.

  • How does it compare to xps17

    • +1

Completely different laptops. One (XPS) is designed for thin and light usage and therfore has lower graphical capacity whereas the G7 has better cooling capacity so it can house more powerful processors and GPUs, hence why it is not as portable.

  • +2

After a bit of digging I'm pretty confident that the Gpu will be a 2070 mobile or 2070 super. According to press releases and battery configuration, they state that the 2070 super will come with a bigger 6cell 97w battery. If you look at the tech specs of this laptop it includes the 97w battery. They but bigger battery to cope with higher power draw. If it comes with the super 2070 then it's a bonus!

  • How does this compare with M17R2(https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Alienware-M17-R2-Gaming-Lap…) in terms of performance, although G7 has better speed RAM and 10th Gen CPU

    • +2

you pay 700 less for better specs.

      • yeah probably.. also M17R2 RAM are soldered and not upgrade-able.

    • +1

Alienware 17 used to have better design than the G7, but this year G7 design has improved and it looks very similar to the Alienware so I don’t think it’s worth to spend extra on the Alienware

  • How fast do you think Dell would be shipping these?

  • I think this is unfortunately the Max-Q.

I have compared 3DMark scores noted on both the Dell US and Australian websites for this laptop:

Australian Dell: 3DMark Timespy score: 5650
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/gaming-and-games/new-dell-g7…

    US Dell (2070 Max-Q): 3DMark Timespy score: 6470
    https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-laptops/new-dell-g7-1…

US Dell (2070 SUPER): 3DMark Timespy score: 7590
    https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gaming-laptops/new-dell-g7-1…

Can you find this in the 'GEAR CHECK' section of each page.

    • Not sure how accurate this is given the Australian score is that much lower than the US score using the same GPU?

      • Agreed it's not conclusive evidence. But don't see why Australian Dell website would 'downplay' itself…

    • Now im having buyers remorse. If its the weaker card I definitely don't want it. This is so confusing.

      • Even if it is the 2070 Max-Q, it is still faster than the mobile 2060 and mobile 1660ti on average whilst not running as hot. It's still more capable as well with ray-tracing so no loss.

        • There is a loss. It's less powerful than the 2070 mobile. With a 144Hz screen, you want to be able to have enough power to push that many frames.

          • +1

@djevoultion: lol, don't worry guys, the Q platform was made for a reason. If it gets too hot in there it will throttle any way so what's the use of having a more powerful GPU but lower function due to heat throttling or undervolting when the Max Q will do the same/?

    • +1

HUGE GRAIN OF SALT on what i said earlier

Australian Dell site has the 1660 TI having 5650 as well
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/gaming-and-games/new-dell-g7…

      I think it's fudged.

      • +1

Thank you for easing my remorse for now. Lol. I asked the question through ebay explaining the situation and the uncertainty. I doubt they will help clarify it any further though. Even they seem to have no idea.

  • Hey just sharing my experience,

I just bought the G5 15 SE, but organised for a return upon seeing this.

I went to go buy this, applied the code, but then changed payment source, It still said 500 off in the total, but when paid for it charged me 2500, currently in touch with ebay support to see if I can get this rectified (via chat), they acknowledge an error was made, but have to await what there "marketing" team says. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else

    **update
They replied, there were two codes available to applie (the other one was like %3 or something like that), when I changed payment source it defaulted back to the other code…
just make sure you've got the right code selected (weird though as I double checked the order total before pressing pay now)

    • +2

Why you returning G15? That was a mad deal at that price. Wish I got it! Apart from the 17”, there really isn’t much different?

  • Buy this laptop or make own desktop?

But ps5 and Xbox coming out soon… Idk what to do lol

  • +2

So much confusion regarding the GPU… we literally have someone with the laptop that has measured the wattage and confirmed that it is a full RTX 2070. I’m inclined to take their word over a sales rep reading from a spec sheet.

    • +13

Yes, that was me, and this is proof https://ibb.co/QXJHmgK
Dell sale Reps are like mindless monkey mate, must be confused about the Max Q version, Australia doesn't have the Max Q option, only for the US market.

Believe what you want, websited clearly state RTX 2070, if it was Max Q it will say Max Q. Just don't buy the laptop, and missed out of this great deal.

      • Well that settles that, thanks.

How is the laptop itself? Have you experienced any issues?

        How is the display?

        • Check out my feedback on page 2.

      • Thanks, mate for all your effort in putting out the info. Got one thanks to your advice

But it is not MAX Q -

    New message from: dell_australia
    Hello Zac,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Confirming that the unit comes with NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2070 8GB GDDR6, not Max Q.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Ariel

    • did u go for the extra warranty?

    • That's odd. Dell always emails me when my warranty is about to expire asking if I want to buy an extension.
