  • Wish Dell would confirm shipping already. If it’s cancelled I’ll pick this one up.

    • +2

If it’s the S2721DGF I’d still go with Dell.

    • +1

When I click the "View Purchase" button in the order confirmation email, it takes me to the Dell website where it says "Status: Confirmed - In Production"
So it looks to have gone through, check your order. I think others have had shipping confirmation too.

      • Yea mines in Production too. Fingers crossed

  • +2

    Typical retail price is $469.

    DELICIOUS 350cdm/2 brightness

    Really?

    • Yup, $469 shipped if happy to wait until 20/8 https://www.centrecom.com.au/viewsonic-vx2758-2kp-mhd-27-144…

    • Anything above 300nits is delicious for gamers.

True can’t argue with the price, it has been cheaper at the start of 2020 when we underestimated COVID.

      • +1

Wow, that standard is low. IPS's brightness is limited, but it doesn't mean we are happy with that or that's great.

        • What application do you have for what is effectively an SDR monitor that requires over 350 nits brightness? Even the best TVs today have a sustained 100% brightness of 500 nits for HDR purposes. Most people tend to operate their screens at 100-200 nits, particularly if they've calibrated it.

The longer term goal is like 10k nits for peak HDR figures (i.e. not the whole panel all at once, and not for more than a few seconds), but that is legitimately searing light, like staring at a light bulb.

jesus this was going for $379 6 months ago …

    • yes, just wait for some real good deals.

  • +1

Yeah I don't get it; where's the deal?

    • +1

It's a side effect of the Dell monitor deal. All of the sudden 144Hz 2K monitors are valuable and 165Hz apparently is amazing.

      • -2

2K would basically be 1080p, so not really. ;)

It's nice to see monitor prices starting to normalise though.

        • -2

No it's not. 2K is 1440p. Huge difference.

"With just over 3.6 million pixels, 1440p is just about 1.77 times smoother than 1080p"

          • +1

@er1992: No, 2K is DCI 2K, which is approximately 2000 pixels horizontally. Native DCI 2K is 2048 x 1080, which is slightly more than 1080p (1920x1080), and that's what cinema projectors use when operating in that resolution range.

            DCI 4K is 4096 x 2160, while a 4K TV is 3840 x 2160. As you can see, DCI 4K has double the measurements of DCI 2K.

1440p is quad HD (because it's double the measurements of 720p, and thus four times the resolution), and could perhaps be described as 2.5K, but it's not 2K.

            Make sense?

            • @jasswolf: Thoughts on referring to 1440 as 3k? My gamer mates and I do so and it leads to people not knowing what we are talking about > 50% of the time. But if I have to say 1440p 144hz one more time I'll die inside.

              • @ozbjunkie: You'll have to take it up with the consortiums coming up with this stuff. :P

                QHD works too.

                • @jasswolf: Yes! QHD, ahh why didn't I think of that… Well. Cheers.

I have this monitor, waited a month on pre order from centre com. It is VERY good for the money. The panel is amazing.

    • +1

Agreed, im using it as a second monitor. Cannot complain

  • How does this compare to the Dell Ultrasharp 27" for gaming and CAD/Design?

    • +1

I'm assuming the ultrasharp is 60hz, so the gaming implications should be obvious.

Likewise, it should be obvious that the 'UltraSharp' is more focused on visual quality for CAD/Design - the panel is much better.

    • Dell Ultrasharp is better tuned out of the box. The stand is much better and the included USB hub is handy.

However, in terms of pure specs, the gaming monitor is better. That said, if you really need to do colour accurate work on the Viewsonic, you need to download a tuned monitor ICC profile. Also, hopefully, the panel quality is much better than Viewsonic's low cost 60Hz offering. That one was really bad quality. From the feedback, it seems the gaming monitor does use a much better panel.

It confirms if your screen flickers or not seeing certain colors/items or scenes. Mine flickers every now and then when I played Odyssey
