I am just in the market for a high-end enthusiast compact…was thinking about the upcoming Fujifilm X10, but if this deal is really on for the G12, then the price (at $349.50) may be too good to refuse…I'm willing to split it with anyone living in Perth…

      • +1

Contact me. I am willing to share

        • +1

It does appear from their website that the G12 doesn't qualify for the deal, it doesn't have a red-dot bonus sticker…damnit…was almost too good to be true…

        • Was in there this morning and at least at HN in the CBD Melbourne they would have offered the G12. So be quick!

      • not sure if you're still going for the G12 and if you are i'm willing to share with you

  • Hi, I'm interested in either sony hx9v or the nikon s9100. I'm in Melbourne, preferably CBD.

    • I'm up for a Sony DSC-HX9V.

      • click on my username then avatar pic then contact user…
i'll be going down to harvey at qv today about 12pm to have a look

    • Melb HX9V here too, anyone else?
Do you guys know how much HN have them for?

Edits: I see it's $499 on their site. So who in Melbourne wants to team up?

      • im in melb QV… want to meet there at HN lunch time?

email me your phone number: [email protected]

        • Sent you an email :)

  • Are you allowed to buy more than 2?

    • Limit one per household.

  • Anybody know if this deal is also available in Perth? Thanks!

  • anyone want to buy an Olympus XZ-1 in Sydney?

  • Keen to grab an Olympus XZ-1 if anyone in Perth is interested.

      • Sorry mate, went to Warwick store at 9am this morning, they only had 1 XZ-1 in stock which was the display model, gave Joondalup a quick buzz in the hope of finding a non-display model but they only had 2 in stock, 1 black 1 white, both on display. Ended up taking the display one at Warwick along with a Canon S95.

  • I'm down for either a Canon SX230 HS or a SONY DSC-HX9V in Brisbane (North).

EDIT: Or a Canon G12 if we get there early enough :)

  • +1

Anyone interested in getting either a Canon SX230 HS or a Sony DSC-HX9V in Melbourne?

    • I'm interested in the sx230. PM me if you'd like to go in on a pair together! Don't really NEED a new camera right now but I guess that's the ozbargain story for most bargains :)

  • Sorry so.. Will this deal be available today?

  • Anyone in Newcastle wanting to go in on a pair of cameras, was thinking either the Canon PowerShot SX230 or the Canon PowerShot G12? Cheers.

    • yeah keen as how muchj will that work out each?

    • Canon PowerShot SX230

      • Should be $197 each

  • doubt the Canon S100 will be available by then :(

  • +1

Dont forget about the Fuji HX20. I bought one recently from Uncle Jerry and absolutely LOVE it. Feels and looks very SLR-like. Its built solid. Just took it on a round the world trip, and very impressed with the photos it took, and im only an amateur at best.
Make sure you take a look. In my opinion, a brilliant camera for the money. Will qualify for this offer as its not a true SLR.

  • +1

Anyone want to pair up with me for the canon sx230. I am in Adelaide. We can meet up at lunch time today.

  • +1

MAKE sure to print out the price from their web page before heading into store. All too often thep price instore has been higher than the web page, and you can be sure it will be jacked up in the stores this weekend.

  • Anyone wants Canon IXUS S220 HS in Sydney? Let me know. $274 for two, I want one :E

    • Me too, Sydney CBD?

      • Yea I go to CBD for my uni at UTS. I can meet up today at Martin Place or Broadway between 12-2pm, I think there is a HN there.

EDIT: I just bought a couple @$249 - so $124.50 ea(silver colour, they didn't have black)so if you or anyone else wanna get it now I'll be around uni till afternoon. If no takers I'll sell it elsewhere. Cheers.

        • I bought two yesterday morning. May put the spare one on ebay if noone here wants it.

    • I'm after one of these as well, but I'm in Brisbane. Anyone else who's after one?

  • anyone in newcastle want to hit them up for a Canon ?

    • Im in Newcastle, which one did you want to get?

      • Canon PowerShot SX230

  • +2

Maybe I am wrong but is it really Buy one get one free or buy one at a really high price and get two and when you halve the cost to find the price of one you save maybe 30 bucks if you could buy one but end up with two cameras?

Canon PowerShot SX230 HS shopbot search lowest price $204 Hardly Normal price $393

please shoot me down if i made a mistake here? =P

    • +3

1st listing on shopbot - grey market camera with no Australian warranty, $267 including $50 delivery and 2% paypal fee.

      2nd - $325 inc $99 delivery fee.
3rd - another grey market from HK. etc etc

Cheapest Aus stock I could find is $290 inc delivery.

So HN works out to $196 ea, with local warranty. Now, if you can find Aus stock with Aus warranty for cheaper than that, including all the hidden delivery fees, cc fees etc, I suggest you buy it.

      • +1

thx for clearing that up :)

I see now this IS a bargain

    • +2

$204 + 47.50 (shipping) = $251.5 for an imported model without a manufacture warranty. They often require an Australian power plug adapter and the instructions are not the original.

The Australia version will make a better Christmas gift.

Edit: Beaten to it. I second what Chris said. The cheapest Aussie stock I've found is $348

      • +1

thx Maf101 I see why the others are cheaper. better to buy aus product and get the aus warranty and piece of mind

  • I know the s100 is only around the corner but two aus stock s95 for one is pretty sweet

  • +1

There seems a few of us ozB's in Newcastle, I also would like a Canon maybe the SX230HS or even the IXUS S220 ?

I can meet up with someone at Bennetts Green sometime today if they share the same Canon interest?

  • Can anyone recommend a camera for a kid turning 7? She'll drop it and forget to turn it off. She takes blurry photo's. Her camera was stolen.

    • +1

Seriously; THE CHEAPEST ONE THE HAVE!

  • Just saw the ad for this up here (Darwin)… no P&S cameras I want though, except the Canon Powershot S100… which as mentioned above isn't out yet. :\

  • HN has updated their website since last night. Most P & S cameras now have a "bonus" label (some don't, like the Canon G12 - which should be included in the sale).

Still no specific info about the deal though.

    • So G12 not included in this deal? :(

      • +1

Looks like an oversight. Others are reporting buying the G12 with the deal.

Great deal! I'm interested in a Sony DSC-HX9V in Melbourne. Also close to Southland or can meet in CBD. PM me.

  • Lined up at HN Woden. Fingers crossed.

  • Im not a cammera enthusiast, But i woul dlike to get the best camera for his deal? Ive been seeing the Cannon PowerShot Sx230. Can someone tell me whether this is a good choice for this price?

By the way i live in sydney.

    • +1

I think so. Read the review I posted earlier. The Nikon S9100 is a good 2nd choice for the same money, and you probably won't miss the Canon's extra manual controls over the nikon.

The Canon has better photo quality than the Sony HX9V, which is $100 more expensive. The Sony is a better choice if video is more important than photo quality for you. But the Canon's video is still pretty good.

IIRC, all three have GPS for geotagging.

      • +1

        Thanks buddy. Been looking around,
        Interms of night time shots.
        Whats better?
My current sony camera is horrible at night.

        • +2

          Interms of night time shots.

The Canon for sure. The Sony uses way too much noise reduction at high ISO, it makes fine detail "soft".

        • :D:D you have been alot of help . Thanks :D

        • Glad to help.

  • Sony DSC-HX9V in Sydney anyone? Or whatever you like at that price

Price $499, that's $249.50 each! Yeahhh.. gonna buy me an icecream with the change from $250.

    • i'm in for either a Sony DSC-HX9V, Olympus XZ-1 or Pana FT3. Can drive to Auburn (Sydney) and pick up this morning if need be.
      1. any experts (photography, not bargain wise) have insights into which of these is best?
      2. Anyone in Sydney willing to team up, please PM me

      • check out cnet for reviews.

I'm going for the Sony, I haven't checked out the specs for the olympus or pana.

well I'm in Macquarie Park, and I'm probably interested, I'll let you know if I can come up with the $$

        • +1

I have two Sony HX9V on hold in Chatswood if you're keen.

      • Hi,

Did you get anyone? I am interested about Sony DSC-HX9V.

        • Yeah, I'd be interested in the Sony HX9V too if anyone had it.

      • +3

Can't comment on the FT3 since I've never used one but I just bought the XZ-1 and HX9V (although I've been using my parents' HX9V for about a week).

Between the HX9V and the XZ-1, probably go for the XZ-1 if image quality (and being able to shoot in RAW) is really important to you. 16 megapixels on the HX9V seems too much (pics don't look too great when viewed at 100%) although when you resize it to about 10mp (same as the XZ-1) then the pics look pretty good when viewed at 100%. The XZ-1 offers more manual controls too and it has a brighter lens which is an advantage in low light situations. You'd also be able to play with depth of field more with the XZ-1 although it's not exactly impossible with the HX9V.

As for the HX9V, the focal length range is damn good (24-384mm) compared to the XZ-1 (28-112mm). It can go a little wider and a LOT longer than the XZ-1 so I'm guessing you'd be able to capture more scenes with it and I think it'd be great as a travel camera. It has a lot of other features that I haven't mentioned that make shooting fun (auto HDR, panorama sweeep something, others that I'm forgetting). I like how it does a lot of the thinking for you and strangely enough, that's coming from a guy that likes his manual controls. Sometimes I like it when the camera does all the work for me and I can just relax.

And if videos are of some importance to you then it's no contest, the HX9V is quite possibly the best compact camera for videos whereas the XZ-1 isn't all that great. The HX9V is able to record 60 frames per second in 1080p and in terms of video quality, it even beats out some DSLRs that are worth more. The fact that a camera like that can be had for $250 is ridonkulous. Check out Youtube or Vimeo for some sample videos, they look great. Over at Cinema5D.com, Johnnie Behiri who is a freelance cameraman and editor who does work for the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, referred to the HX9V as almost the ultimate run and gun camera.

        http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=7468

They're both nice cameras to own, it just depends on your priorities. I'd say that image quality is better overall with the XZ-1 and it'll be a better performer in low light scenes (like going out to dinner or something similar). But the HX9V holds its own in terms of image quality and it has a ton of other things going for it. For me at least, it seems like a much more fun camera to use between the two.

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone think of a reason why the Canon G12 doesn't qualify for the sale, other than the fact that HN are being bastards about it? Seems to me like it's the only P&S (albeit a high -end one) that doesn't have a red-dot bonus…

    • Probably … i suspect it's popular enough that HN can move stock without having to put it on sale?
As much as I (and everyone else on OzB :P) hate it, the retailers are in this to maximise their bottom line and not give me a bargain (it would be nice if DSLRs were included though)

      • +4

looks like that have added the G12 :D

YESSS!!Going to grad it later. Anyone in Perth keen on just contact me and i will get back to you this afternoon!!!

        • OMG, indeed they have! Good spotting…now have to consider, will the Fijifilm X10 be twice as good as the G12? Hmmmm…

    • actually … i was just on the website
seems like it does qualify … im reading it right now

      • haha … beaten above

  • I'm going to neg this one, the wiley park store is adding "additional" things that you must buy for a marked up price. salesperson is putting up the new prices as I type

    • serious! man i hate that. This is why i do not shop at HN. I hope he goes broke

    • +1

Take some photos of them changing the price please.

This happened to my friend at harvey norman once, she bought a laptop and it still had a "buy this and get these items free" sign up. She asked the sales person if she still got the free items and he said "no, this promotion ended yesterday" and pulled down the sign right in front of her. She complained to the manager the next day and the manager said that wasn't right and gave her the free stuff.

    • oh I re tract my neg, spoke to the manager who says that we don't have to take the marked up price. the salesperson I talked to was just being dodgy

      • Look at the top of this page. Click on "votes" on the left side next to "view". Scroll down the list until you find you name with a (-) button. Click the (-) and you'll retract your neg.

    • -1

Wiley Park HN is the dodgiest HN that I've seen in Sydney. Last time for the Toshiba laptop sale, they were marking prices at about 20% higher than all the other HNs I went to, plus giving bad advice to customers left right and centre (ie making them buy lots and lots of add ons). Avoid like the plague.
