Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 128GB $199 Upfront on Telstra $99 150GB P/M 12-Month Contract (New / Port-In Customers) @ JB Hi-Fi

2560

Greetings everyone, just spotted that JB have placed the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 4G 128gb on promotion on their $99 Per Month 150gb Plan.

Considering that this plan has a $594 Early Termination Charge, you could essentially get the phone for $793 (+pro-rated first month charge) if you cancelled the plan early :)

Think this is definitely the cheapest I've seen this phone before if you factor that in.

As always, enjoy!

credit check required? I heard its not worth it

    • Does it? Where is the source?

    • +4

Yea they run a credit check. As long as you haven't smashed your file with multiple telco/until enquiries in a short period then it won't make a huge impact.

    • +5

Not worth getting a check on your file

      • +2

Funnily enough, the credit check actually improved my credit score. It shows up contributing positively to my score as 'Type of last consumer credit applied for'.

        • Great, we have successfully adopted the ridiculous credit score system from the USA that requires you to be in debt to get loans.

  • +4

Lol, plan on doing a runner. ^^

    • +1

Agree, already on a Telstra plan I’m happy with. ($40/20GB) Much easier to fire up a new account for a few days than to port out and port in again!

      • Which plan? Keen to explore

        • It was one of the previous JB Telstra port in deals that pop up from time to time. Usually 12mth contract, $40 price point, enough data for my usage and a gift card thrown in to sweeten the deal. If you’re on Telstra already you had to port out and port in again to be a ‘new customer’ again.

  • +1

This looks like a price error as S20 on same Plan is being advertised in $449 upfront, whereas S20+ in $199, which doesn't make sense.

    • +2

it actually makes sense, all flagships' prices being dropped like having diarrhoea recently (take Vietnam for example where S20+ is cheaper than S20, iPhones are cheaper than … from USA, Samsung Flip Z is 2/3 of the original price now, etc). i guess it was mainly because of covid19 that people tend to spend more comfortably with mid-range prices

      • +8

I agree that prices are dropping, but still S20+ shouldn't be cheaper than S20.

        • +2

Price is deemed by supply and demand. Possibly s20+ sales volume less than expected, overstock by supply chain. Samsung market share is sinking, SOC is less popular than snapdragon.

        • +2

The S20+ is too large for a lot of people, they also like to alternate the discounts between the S20 and s20+ to give a sense of urgency to the buyer. Give it a week and the discount will be for the S20 instead

      • +2

Likely just a promo from Samsung to move more + stock, probably not selling well

      • +1

Samsung Flip Z is 2/3 of the original price now, etc).

Could you please provide a link to this? I'm looking to move someone away from the iOS ecosystem which is becoming increasingly more expensive with very new release.
        Thanks.

    • -4

Yes confirmed it is a pricing error.
The website is now showing $599 upfront.

      • I'm still seeing $199

      • I literally just bought this phone for $199. It's listed at $1199 on the shelf, but the 12 month plan gets you a $1000 gift card with this phone deal.

        • whereabouts was this?

        • Ok thanks for confirming.
Unfortunately I'm in Melbourne under lockdown.
Gutted that I'll miss out on the deal.

          • @ColourWolf: You can always call their sales team on 13 52 44

  • +3

I still have not received a bill for my huawei p30 that i terminated.

    • Check your junk mail in your email account…

    • Same, haven’t received a bill for my iPhone SE as well. Been close to 4 months now. Not showing up on my Telstra online account too. The mobile plan showed up the day after I signed up but then I called them to cancel and it vanished.

      • Did you cancel same day?

        • I did it the day after.

      • what do you mean the bill, the ETC

        • The ETC (early termination charge) will be sent to you on your final bill, which also may include any usage charges for the final billing period in which you cancelled. So yes, they are expecting a bill.

          • @ihavecentsnotsense: I received final bill with ETC and they agreed to waive it after bit of argument. Irony is they sent me another bill after 2 months with an amount equivalent of ETC as a credit. I got them to refund it and it has already hit my bank account :)

  • +2

    So it's in-store only?

    • +6

I called JB this morning. These deals are not avaliable for Victoria customers due to Covid19 shop closures. There are currently no work around these in-store sign ups.

      • +4

Are you sure you don't mean Melbourne customers. Stores in Victoria outside Melbourne are still open.

        • +2

          Yep I meant Melbourne.

      • -2

Actually you can sign up for multiple units at the same time, so all you need to work out is how many units you need to offset the $1600 fine if get caught :)

        • +2

The Stores are closed, ie no staff.. you can't get any phones only the $1600 fine. JB isn't McDonalds

          • +1

@xinyi: Nop stores in stage 3 restrictions areas are still open.

  • +5

Since covid, I barely use 1GB of data a month. Before, I'd do about 30GB as there was no Wi-Fi at work.

I suppose this is a decent deal for those without a broadband connection.

    • +5

Or those doing essential work and still using mobile data

      • +3

Or those Victorians flaunting COVID restrictions

        • +3

Yep those idiots definitely need the data as they'll be spending most of their time in the hospital

          • +1

            @Nickelback: Free WiFi at Maccas

            • +1

@Last Seen: a maccas closeby just closed down they had a covid case once, not worth the free wifi.

  • +1

    Is it open in Melbourne?

    • +1

      Nope, stores closed

  • Does anyone know if you can pay via gift cards ?

    • +5

yes, you can pay the upfront cost with gift card :)

    • Actually you have to pay with the gift card they issue after signing up the plan. I have gone to multiple stores with earlier deals and none of them allow me to pay full cost by card.

      • I paid the $99 for s10e on gc

        • I just paid with a $200 gift card no problem

  • +1

Do I need to transfer a number? Or can I simply get a new number.
If I need one, will a $2 sim from optus/voda be ok?
Currently on Telstra prepaid (just topped up a 6month as well :/)

I've been eyeing off this phone and this seems like a great deal provided I can cancel…

    • I would like to know this too.

    • It's a good phone, battery is avg, camera is good with daylight not as good as pixels for night shots and moving objects. Fast phone with a great display!

    • it supports eSIM so it doesn't matter with new number as u can then ask Telstra to change your sim to eSIM (online they will send a pack to you which is a piece of bar code paper 😂, or get in-store to have it done if they have stock)

    • +1

FWIW when I got the P30 deal they issued me a new number on the spot, no porting required.

    • Would love to know if anyone on Boost Mobile has been able to do this and if so, did you port or get a new number? Thanks!

      • I have ported to Lebara (VF) on Monday and I'm either going with this offer or the Note 20 Ultra. Deciding in the next couple of days.

I hope I can do it though as I heard you need to be out of Telstra for 30 days

        • ported out this morning to vodafone, they wouldn't let me sign up this afternoon

          • @redfox1200: Hence why I am waiting a few days after I have ported out as the number might still show up under Telstra's systems.

I could be out of luck as well and miss out on these offers as I need to retain my 18+ years old number

            • @rbaraz: they just looked me up via my drivers licence, it said on the screen 13/08/2020 port out, so it will still be there for you, it just depends if the person you get cares.

i got the galaxy s10 deal last year, ported out in the morning and back in the afternoon no problems.

    • You can get a new number. 100% confirmed because I just did it.

      • New number given on the spot. Picked up today. Commented further down, $89/month for contract. (plus phone costs)

  • +1

Anyone got a workaround for us in melbourne?

  • +2

I have an S10 and don't really see any need to upgrade. The only thing that might be tempting is the camera and I don't seem to be taking many pictures due to the current no travel situation.

    • +1

Same. I've got a S10+ and after playing with a friend's S20+ I decided to skip the S20 generation - not worth the cost of the upgrade. I changed my wallpaper and got a new cover for mine, it looks like a new phone.

      • +1

trick, for ambled display, the pixels turn off on black spots, to save battery have a pitch black background

    • +1

Yeah, what about it? Your comment makes no sense

    • +1

iPhone 11 pro max for $199 is wishful thinking.

  • +2

    Samsung S20 128gb is $449 + same plan.
    Samsung S20+ 128gb is $199!?

Surely this is a price error?

I didn't see this on their website this afternoon…

    • +2

      Already discussed above

      • Even on old catalogue for 6th Aug -> 19th Aug, it was $600

There's no mention of it being $199 in the 13th aug -> 19th aug catalogue

But then it ends 16th of Aug.. weird

        • +4

But the promotion is only for 4 days as it seems. Which wouldn't be part of the catalogue anyways. So it looks like a legit deal and not a price error.

    • Definitely a price error.

    • +2

they have regular short deals that are much better than their standard deals. usually not advertised.

    • +1

100% NOT pricing error. I just went down and bought it.

      • +1
        Can confirm also.
I was also told it was $89/month for those of you interested. Apparently there's an automatic $10/month credit applied for the 12months.
Can't call international but with 150gb data surely there's another way…

        • Sweetens the deal! Thanks for sharing!

  • How to cancel the subscription?

    • +2

Easiest way to cancel the subscription/plan is to port out, as cancellation via Telstra is a PITA these days, as we can't reach them either via call centre or web chat.

      • +1

^Grab a optus/vodafone based operator's prepaid starter kit and port out

        • then what. ETC bill.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yep. You can try to switch to month-to-month first with telstra's online tool (I haven't tried this for ages), but just expect to pay ETC charge..

Even if its $199+$600, $800 for an S20 Ultra 4G is a very good price.

            • @cwongtech: is 5g useful for the extra or nah

              • @[Deactivated]: Not within the next two years, 4G is fast enough for most people assuming you're within decent cellular tower range.

Personally I don't think the Aus telco market is ready for 5G.

                • @cwongtech: true, I reckon 5g is way too early to adopt

                • @cwongtech: 5G spreading is very fast. Did U know Even the rural/regional places like Lithgow has 5G now.

                • @cwongtech: 4G speed will be restricted when telco promotes 5G even there is no evidence but it’s a commercial strategy

    • I would like to know too.

  • -3

If this is for the ultra will get one for sure…. Screen 6.7 is just a tad too small
