Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 128GB $199 Upfront on Telstra $99 150GB P/M 12-Month Contract (New / Port-In Customers) @ JB Hi-Fi

2560

Greetings everyone, just spotted that JB have placed the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 4G 128gb on promotion on their $99 Per Month 150gb Plan.

Considering that this plan has a $594 Early Termination Charge, you could essentially get the phone for $793 (+pro-rated first month charge) if you cancelled the plan early :)

Think this is definitely the cheapest I've seen this phone before if you factor that in.

As always, enjoy!

Price of phone is $1,199, that where $1,000 came, but of course not correct. Salesman is just fear mongering.

  • is this 8gb ram rather than 12gb?

    • +1

Yes, 4G model only is 8gb ram. 5g version has 12gb ram.

      • thanks!

What is the outright cost for Note 20 if anyone knows ?

  • There is a "Telstra Plan Expression of Interest" section if one follows the "Go to Deal" from this page. Now I swear i didnt see this section on the JB page yesterday. Could it be put in place overnight for online sign ups for those of us in Melbourne who are unable to visit a physical store?

Has anyone filled this form and/or knows what it does?

    • I filled most of this in, the options appear to cover only gift card atm, they may expand to the S20+ deal, not looking good tbh, such a good deal, 5G version would be more future proof i guess
Reading the inter webs this may be the first of many Sammy deals, don’t think any S20 models have been selling well, S20u would be my pick just coz it’s so insane and may well be in a post COVID-19 world the high watermark of everything in a smartphone?

      • I spoke to their CS and they advised me that once you fill in their online form, it goes to a call centre and at the moment all their Call Centres are closed so no point actually submitting the form.

Yep certainly 5G would be future proof with 12gb ram vs 8gb. However the question is would one really have a viable need for such speed that 5G would offer? This indeed was a really good deal. Shame Melburnians missed out.

S20u is really good on paper and seemed to have tickled my fancy too however with its camera issue, I'm skeptical and not sure if its worth it?

  • Off topic: I have Samsung S10 5G, everytime its connected to my car Bluetooth, music starts to play from samsung music player , is there any way to stop that thing?

    • Change music player in default settings?

      • There's no option for default music player in settings, just browser, assistant , sms etc

        • Find the app under “App Info” there should? Be Open by Default setting, maybe clear this field?

I’m using an LG so ymmv

          • @revmacca: It says , none as default so it is not setup as default player , also there is no option to chose any default player

    • disable the samsung player app

      • No option for that , only uninstall, force stop.

    • Use bixby routine and change what u want to do when jt connects to ur car bluetooth

  • Just don't tell them you're going to terminate it. They somehow kicked me out because of that!

    • +3

Why on earth would you even tell them that???? They're a business, not a charity. The sales people are there to make money and commissions.

      • -4

I thought they just want to sell the phone and termination issue is for Telstra only. Also because I wanted to know I haven't missed anything.

        • Also because I wanted to know I haven't missed anything.

You read the contract yourself, the sales people do not read the contract.
See the Early Termination Charge for the plan.

  • I'm already with Telstra but I am in need of a new phone. Is the sign-up and cancellation process easy enough here?

  • Anyone knows if the phone is unlocked before/after early termination? Thanks.

    • Unlocked, forever and ever.

      • Thank you

  • Can someone please help…I read all the comments here and went to the store, however, the sales person told me that the outstanding $ after termination is $80 × the number of months left on the contract. So calculating that: $199 + $80×12 (assuming that I terminate straight away like some posts state here) = $1159. I am sooooo confused :-(

    • +2

As per OP post. Otherwise if you are worried, get them to provide copy of the contract, it should outline the Early termination cost.

      • Thanks

Normally this is correct, however the plan they put you on is a Telstra BYO plan, the ETC is half the value of the full plan.
It's $199 upfront, and the value of the $99 for 12 months plan is $1188. but the Early Termination Charge is $594

Don't ask the salespeople questions or they'll tell you what they think, which may or may not be correct.

      • thanks

  • How long is this offer on for?

    • till 16th

      • Thanks

anybody looked up S20 random reboot issues? no wonder this is being pushed cheap

    • Its called warranty…if there is any issue.

      • -2

good luck with that if its an issue with the phone in general

        • Just got to deal with JBs, brick and mortar support, as opposed to buying directly from Samsung.

        • -1

isn't that the whole purpose of warranty? To deal with any defects with the phone.. hmmmmmm

  • Can anybody confirm if Early Termination impact credit score/history? Its not a default or overdue payment, so not sure if it gets reported on credit report…!

  • +2

Is it possible to sign up for the plan then instead of canceling, go the next day in store and change it to the $49/ month for 12 months JB partnered Telstra plan.
I managed to do that with the S10e plan last year from $60 to $45 a month.
Was just wondering if this could be done with this plan as well

    • If you read one of the above comments, someone's friend did this.

      • +1

Then the after changing to lower plan, the early termination charges will be less?

      • I think that guys friend had another Telstra $45 plan. Let me know if you can change plans anyway.

  • -2

How much does it cost to unlock the phone?

    • +1

it should already be unlocked coz its postpaid

  • Hi im wondering what's the point of porting out if we have already given the termination notice to telstra (ie. If you don't care about keeping the number)

    • i think the porting out is one of the alternative of cancelling. if you have trouble asking them to cancel then just port out it will trigger the cancellation anyway

      am i am right?

      • Yes, you are right, because the other side of the Telco will talk to Telstra like "I am taking over" so effectively, should cancel out the service. But, wouldn't hurt to contact Telstra to confirm cancellation regardless.

  • Sorry, if I missed this and it was explicitly covered. But, this deal is for the 4G only? You can't pay an extra $150 on the $199 upfront and get the 5G version?

    • Cannot.. imagine if can… The subject of this post would be 5G for sure
      ….

      • Oh well, I just phoned my local JB, and they weren't sure straight off the bat, took them 10min to read the deal's fine print. End result, no you can't get the 5G. But, still worth asking.

  • Thanks, Great deal. Connected and disconnected same day on the deal. $595 etc $800 for a current flagship new and local stock is a great deal

  • +1

Thanks, Great deal. Connected and disconnected same day on the deal. $595 etc $800 for a current flagship new and local stock is a great deal

  • got a 2nd one yesterday, looks liek the 2nd number hasn't even been provisioned yet. and now the account pages are down so can't even cancel. must be bombarded with new signups

    • It will be faster if you go to Telstra shop.

  • Got mine today, cancelled the plan without any hassle via chat this afternoon. $592.40 cancellation fee, bargain.

    • Cancelled as well.

Also, an interesting note, seems like this JB HiFi plans doesn't have full access to VoLTE/ VoWiFi, at least on my OnePlus 7T Pro though. Haven't actually tried it on my S20+ yet.

  • hi all thanks for the community spirit on this one. I also got one and just got Telstra chat to cancel. Does anyone know if there is a button or something if we want to cancel ourselves without the operator? I need to do another cancellation for a family member.

    • I did it via chat, that's the only way I think. (can't find anything inside my account click to cancel)

  • -1

Also, would it be worth to state in the title of this post or something that we can get Telstra Points for cancellation, (if this is the case). Does anyone know? If so it's better to register for a Telstra Plus account before cancelling.

    • If you cancel, that's pretty much it.

      • no telstra plus points for cancellation?

        • +1

why would we get points from cancelling? whats the logic behind this idea?
i read somewhere long time ago we get points by setting up email billing / direct debit, forgot which one, maybe no longer offered.

        • +1

You want to be rewarded for cancelling??

  • does anyone know if it's possible or how we can setup direct debit on this so we dont incur the credit card surchage for the final bill?

    • pay by paypal, no surcharges for paypal even if you use your credit card

      • Sweet

    • Why surcharge on final bill?

  • -1

Hi guys… Newbie to telstra… Just wanted to know as a new port in do we have any other benefits… Like subscriptions or free TV associated with this ?

    • Not sure why this is down voted.. Just wanted to know if there are any other benefits from telstra…. Just cos it's on a $99 plan

  • Great plan!

  • Do you guys get a etc bill from telstra after termination? What's the procedure?

    • +1

I cancelled, have the reference number and the service is disconnected but still no bill received. The paperwork they provided said the next bill would come on the 16th.

      • Just curious how do u get the reference number?

I received the bill today with ETC

        • +1

They gave it to me in the chat

  • +1

i just notice when we login to my telstra and select our plan/number below it has "Manage plan and allowances"
click, sign in then we get to the "My Account > Plan details"
then Want to upgrade to one of our latest plans? Upgrade plan
    click that,
    sign in again,
    then you will see
    "Choose a new plan"
and we can see and select
    $ 55 monthly
    No lock-in contract

    is this legit?
i clicked next and it gave me "Credit Assessment" page… …. hmm….

    • +1

I have done that in the past with no ETC, if there's no ETC shown to change, you can get on live chat and confirm. If they confirm, then yes you can transfer and then close the plan with no ETC.

But yes, I think you may be hit with another credit check doing this.. They're a bit weird about it.

      • the live chat is so slow still no reply after 30 mins waiting,
ok i will try put all details ID etc and see.
its weird they asking for source of income etc for $55 plan but at jb store no one care when joining $85 plan

      • General question - do you get hit with a credit check if you sign up for JB Plan even if you had an existing Telstra account. E.g. buying a new number under this offer and adding to my family account.

        • for me i dont really care $800-1000 credit check, that is very small amount insignificant for me

        • +1

From what I understand, any time you sign up to a post-paid plan you get hit with a check, it's what they run when you're standing with them. They can't rely on existing services as your circumstances could have changed significantly.

          • @doweyy: Thats correct. ven if you have existing account/service with Telstra, every new service requires a credit check by the system.

            • @OZBsince2018: so in this kind of deal where we go and signed up at JB they run credit check as well while we are waiting? hmm they should disclose that as many are concerned about being checked

              • @CyberMurning: I reckoned its the Telstra doing the credit check on their end. JBs are at the mercy of Telstra to approve our application to sign up the plan.

                • @cloudie9: Yes, its Telstra's requirement for the credit check as they are extending a post paid credit to you. And whenever I signed up JB deals, JB staff clearly disclose that it requires a credit check by Telstra.

  • 199 upfront
    594 cancel fee
    -550 sold my s10e
-120 gst refund when I fly out of the country on the weekend (not sure, but I guess?)

$123 to upgrade s10e with a trashed battery to s20+

    touches oneself

    • +1

      120 gst refund.

yes 100% correct the gst is from 1,299 i have done the same long time ago
that selling price for s10e is crazy how did you sell it

    • $123 + $4000 hotel quarantine to upgrade from S10e to S20+

      • Don't forget the quarantine fees for the hotel in the country I'm going to!

  • -1

Anyone know if we can refund the s20 plus if we wanted to and use the $1000 credit on another product?

    • +2

      Are you serious….

    • Well, you entered into a contract perse. So highly unlikely…

  • Looks like I just got the welcome message in the email today, although it was cancelled over the weekend.

    • Yep, me too. Not sure whether to expect a monthly bill shortly as if nothing was cancelled or the full ETC charge invoice.

      • I definitely got a confirmation of the ETC anyway, so I am not really fussed about it. Just find it very funny to get a welcome and goodbye prior. Also, its not shown under my Telstra account anyway.

  • what happens if you try go back for a refund? would you get $1200 refunded?

    • You can try and let us know how you go.
