You sound very angry, probably due to drinking bad coffee every day.

    • +2 votes

Aeropress has always been $30 unless it's the new aeropress go.

Here is also a good video on aeropress:
      https://youtu.be/53P3EmNrybQ

Obviously every bean will have a different recipe and ratio.

AeroPress was $80 for years after it was first released. I bought 2 units at that time for full price. If you see it for $30 should post it on ozb, will make the front page quicker than this deal did ;)

          https://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au/ViewProduct.aspx/639-aero...

Aeropress - $29.50 (only just seen the comments - "We sold these for $30 for 10 years, the importer won't sell them to us unless we sell them for $50.
Welcome to illegal price fixing ACCC!"

I've had my aeropress since 2009 and they've always been $30.

RIP aeropress, you were superseded by about 10 other devices anyway.

          • +2 votes

@DisabledUser319612: Got a link to any of these other devices? I don't have enough coffee making devices 😁

          •

@DisabledUser319612: Would be good if it wasnt a coffeesnobs stab at the ACCC, seems to be historical and never will be available again at the price.

          • +1 vote

@DisabledUser319612: Technically not price fixing, but it is resale price maintenance which is also prohibited.
Hope they actually contacted the ACCC about it rather than just venting on a forum…

            •

@NigelTufnel: It would be Cartel like behaviour and is highly illegal. It hurts consumers and forces them to pay more tax and price fixes markets and makes a market anti competitive.

By forcing companies to price fix it also causes the companies to conspire in cartel like behaviour too, or risk being cut off from the supply, like we've seen here.

Either way, if a small coffee place can sell them for $30 and make profit, places like aldi could sell them for $20 and make a profit.

              •

@DisabledUser319612: Okay, but it's also basically the definition of resale price maintenance. Hence why I said it. But I guess it can be both.

              • +3 votes

@DisabledUser319612: It's not cartel behaviour unless the upstream supplier is in competition with the downstream supplier (eg by directly supplying to customers).

                It is resale price maintenance.

Is that the day with the glass display cabinet? Need to try and get one of those. Bought a couple a few years ago. Great for Lego sets

    •

      Bit small I think

    •

What are you referring to? As someone who has just bought more Ozbargain lego sets I need to find a display too..

      •

They had a four tier glass cabinet a few years ago. Stands about 170cm tall, 50 x 50. I saw a catalogue the other day and I'm sure I saw they were having them back in stock again.

        •

That sound incredible, exactly what im looking for. Thanks I'll keep an eye out

        •

I’m a 1/6th scale figure collector with a few of these cabinets in my display and they usually have them for sale each year at the back end of August… I always assumed it was for Father’s Day. So I was fully expecting this upcoming catalogue showcased here to have them. I’m gutted.

          •

@troystory: They are definitely coming - we had a catalogue through the mail that showed them.

            •

@Lane Myer: Oh sweet as! Cheers! You don’t happen to remember when exactly the dates were?
I’m probably going to buy four of them as they seem to be the only cabinets of their kind with easily adjustable shelves.

              •

@troystory: It is in this issue - there's a page missing in the link in opening post that shows it.

However, it's a bulky item and I've heard they're not getting many bulky items in (?)

                •

@Lane Myer: So it says on the ALDI website regarding the glass cabinets that all Victorian stores won’t be getting this item because it takes two people to lift it… basically the item is too bulky. Damn it!!!

                  •

@troystory: Dammit! I was hoping to pick up at least one of them. Thanks for letting me know.

Aeropress is awesome. Had mine for at least 10 years now. Great to bring with you on holidays. Not that that will be happening anytime soon now. Just buy local grind from where ever you are. I also use it for Vietnamese coffee, I don't have the patience to wait for it to drip through the stainless steel filter/cup. Turns out a bit stronger too.

The only issue I have with it, is making cups of coffee for multiple people is a pain

Try using lots of coffee and diluting with hot water - most aeropress competitions These days end up with recipes using this bypass method winning anyway.

        •

          Aeropress competition?

          • +1 vote

@m0b1liz3: Yep, most states hold one to qualify for the national aeropress competition, which then qualifies someone to compete in the world comp. basically you go up against two others in a round, all using the same coffee beans. A panel of judges blind tastes and picks the winner of each round. You can find past winning recipes and try them out yourself!

        •

Yep I remember reading a bunch of articles and that the latest winner (back then) used a much lower water temperature somewhere around 173F iirc than normal (195-210F). Fahrenheit boiling temp is 212F at sea level I believe.

      •

        True!
I use the Aeropress for 1 cup.
        V60 is good for multi-cup

      •

The v60 or another pour over is better for multiple cups at once

        •

          Brazen brewer for multiple cups!

    Thanks Dilbert

Only just realised that Dilbert sounds like Dealbot.

Is the aeropress good for iced coffee?

    • +2 votes

Yep. I make it straight into a glass full of ice.

    • +2 votes

It's an easy way to make iced coffee, there are many Aeropress iced coffee recipes on YouTube such as this one by Pablo & Rusty's

Previously purchased the cast iron pan, extremely happy with it. Not a fan of the grill (painful to clean). If you don't cook with cast iron, you need to step up your game.

    •

Why do you say that? What are the benefits to cast iron cooking?

      • +4 votes

Lasts a lifetime if looked after (not as tricky as you might think)
Can use at a much higher heat than non-stick - steaks will taste better
Non need to stress about using metal utensils
You can also use in oven (can be good to finish off some dishes this way)

        •

How do you clean it up after using?

        •

Yeah okay, you seem to know what you're talking about - what are your tips for cleaning or looking after them then? I have bought pans from Aldi and have liked them but you are lucky if you get 2 years out of them most of the time.
So you have piqued my interest with these bold claims haha

          • +2 votes

@JoKing: Make sure you season the pan often when you first get it, there's heaps of YouTube vids on this .

          •

@JoKing: Make sure you properly season (YouTube). For washing -hand wash in hot soapy water, dry immediately (never use dishwasher, never drip dry), put back on hotplate and bring to heat, add small bit of oil and wipe around with paper towel, turn off heat after 1min or so, wipe out any excess oil. Leaves a beautiful glossy coat.

            •

@Hulkfury: I shall have a look! I do have a cast iron skillet in the cupboard but haven't really used it much. Maybe when I'm due for pans next I will have a look. Thanks guys.

        •

Steaks will taste much better if you salt days in advance

        •

The first time I cooked steak on an Aldi cast iron pan was a revelation after cooking on non stick for years.

      • +1 vote

Also really, really good for cooking bacon, and searing meat.

      •

they are very heavy to lift too. i think atleast 3-4 kilos. if you dont have strong wrists you need two of them to hold and carry.

        •

          My Aldi ones
          2.5kg- Pan
          2.9kg - Griddle

      •

If you don't like your glass cooktop you'll have a reason to buy new, which is a plus I guess. Cast iron is harder than glass and scratches it easily.

    is the swag single?

    • +45 votes

      Thinking of asking it out?

      •

if it's double it might be useful for the night out

    •

I wondered that too. If it’s king single or double I’ll definitely get one. You think they’d put that detail in the description but obviously not.

      •

or at least have more than one size for sale

      •

Yeah I am actually very shocked that info (or even the dimensions) aren't in the description. I'm the same boat as you, a single swag is a lil too small for me but if it's slightly bigger I'll be there at 8:30am.

        •

          so… end of the line?

    •
    •

It looks like the same one as they had last time. I bought one and have camped it. I'm 6 feet tall and 90kg (ish), was perfectly comfortable and enough room for me.

      •

So you'd say its probably around a king single? I'm nearly 6'3" so want to make sure its a bigger one haha

        • +1 vote

i THINK the one I got last year was a ripoff of a Roman King Single, listed dimensions of 210L 90W

          •

@balkandishlex: Yeah okay, that doesn't look too bad.
            Good quality canvas and mattress?
Or would you pay an extra like $50 and get a known secondhand one?

            • +1 vote

@JoKing: I am happy enough with mine that, when the sale opens, I will be buying another one for my partner.
