Most IGAs in WA have then 40 pack at $9.99. Farmer Jack's too. Most small asian groceries have it around the same price.

    shrug

    • +2

Haven't seen anyone posting anything except commenting, now here you go.

There are packs of 30s and 40s, I know the 30-packs usually are in the $9.xx mark.

      • They're 40 packs. I'll get a pic in the next couple of days… it'll be too late for this deal by then, but you'll be intellectually satisfied I wasn't just pooping on your deal.

Note: I'm not negging, 'cause not everywhere has the 40 pack for $10. It's a reasonable price. I wouldn't call it a deal though.

    • +31

      i dare you to

      • +6

45 more seconds and dinner will be ready.

        • +23

IndoMie is the worst? Clearly you haven't eaten Maggie noodles.

IMO Indomie ranks as one of the best brands in Aust.

God tier - Indomie, Nong Shim
Middle tier - Nissin Noodles, Fantastic Noodles
Utter crap - Maggi — overpriced and tastes like doodoo. They have better flavours in Asian countries though — Australia only seems to have Beef and Chicken most of the time.

        • +3

Fantastic Noodles above Maggi? Madness! Have had both and Fantastic were a truly regretful purchase.

  • +32

Pretty much lived off this as a uni student - I'm sure I'm not alone there.

    • +3

Yeah that sums me up too… I reckon eating them now would make me feel like death.

    • +2

I have them stocked on my wall during exam time and eggs too ;)

      Check it out

      • Did you really need the abbreviations for TQM, JIT, and CRM lol.

  • +21

For the record, things people should do when eating Mi Goreng:

    • Two packs mixes nicely with a mini 80g can of tuna.
    • Don't use the provided oil, chilli & soy - buy some Kecap Manis (sweet, thick soy sauce), don't add any oil, and add the chilli sauce of your own choosing. Use the provided seasoning and fried onion. It improves the taste, and reduces the chance of explosive diarrhoea.
    • Eat something with fibre along with it. Even if it's just a muesli bar. Your bowels will thank me.

Everyone else - add your Mi Goreng tips!

    • +9

adding tuna sounds gross, but anyway.

Add Cooked Bacon, Peas, Corn then add Peanut butter, and a decent chilli sauce at the end, hot sauce like tabasco works well.

      • -7

BS Hav u tasted Tuna and Noodles ? lol

      • Make sure it's a chunky tuna and it's delish, on toast is even better!

        • +1

Don't bother, migoreng will always be disgusting, love the stuff

      • Mini can of tuna with mi goreng is really nice. I tried substituting the tuna with chicken once and the canned chicken is yucky. Maybe it was just the brand I picked but it tasted rubbish.

    • +7

putting an raw egg right after you add the water is nice.

      • i did that this afternoon, love it!

    • Soo true, eat those packet mix and u will PooP like a heathen !

    • Tuna??? Try fresh squid, prawns or bbq pork (char sui).
Tobasco??? Try sambal (extra pedas) instead. And add fresh chilli. I take a few decently hot birds eyes and cut them up really finely and mix them into the sauce before mixing the noodles in. Then add some larger slices in with the noodles.

And of course, gotta have some fried eggs on top!

And you can fry the noodles in a wok after mixing, to get a more authentic flavour.

      • +4

Yeah, at the point you're using fresh squid, prawns or BBQ pork you're at the point of making a real noodle dish using non-instant noodles. Ditto to the wok-work. A can of tuna is a nice instant bonus to an instant foodstuff.

        • +3

can use frozen prawns and takeaway bbq pork (from asian takeaway deli/restaurant)…;)

    • +2

But yes, abc kecap manis and sambal is a must to buy along with your box of mi goreng!

      • +1

        abc is soooo awesome!

    • +2

Lots of variations on YouTube. Yeah, I have no life. I looked it up once…

    • +2

I like with kecap manis and hot sriracha!!!

    • +1

These are my ways. And kids love it too.

Boil your Mi Goreng and strain.

      *1
Get some leeks, carrots chopped. Add them to the noodles and stir it for a while on low heat.
Can add the flavour packets if u want to.
There you have a real vegetarian one.

      *2
On a saucepan break couple of eggs make it like scramble.
Add vegies as in 1, and the noodles and stir in low heat and take out.

    • +1

a fried scrambled egg always goes nice with 2 packs of mi goreng

  • +1

Just in time! uni exams around the corner, and need study/brain food! :)

    • +3

Brain food? The only thing Meegoreng is going to contribute to is your waistline, not your GPA unfortunately!

  • +4

Don't eat too much instant noodle. They're unhealthy.

    • This is what I don't understand about packet noodles. Not only do they taste (in my opinion) bland and pretty horrible, but on top of that, they aren't a healthy option.

yet people buy them in droves… because they are quick and easy to prepare, and very very cheap.

      • they are awesome, dude.

        cant live without mie goreeeng…

  • -2

forgot to mention 700g dozen of caged eggs at $1.89 - BARGAIN as well

    • +6

      Yeah caged tho.

      • +7

yeah. I'd rather pay an extra $1.50-$2 an get Free Range eggs

        • +2

If you worry about buying caged eggs, you may as well worry about buying noodles which include an entire sachet of palm oil.

        • +2

This is true. You either fight all battles or none so if you can't manage to do the right thing 100% of the time you may aswell give up and go for 0%.

        • +2

Have you ever considered that the free range eggs might actually taste better?

  • +6

Pretty average price for the boxes. Though… fry some egg, leave the yolk a bit runny and let it get all into the noodles :D

  • +2

Check the recommended shelf life. Some of the boxes in asian stores for $10 are past their recommended use by dates.

  • +1

theme song to go with your cheap indo mies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG2dLLIZK3Y

  • They are 9$ in Footscray

  • Use 2 Packets but only 1 of the chilli satchels (the rest of the ingredients from both packs can be added)..
Fry some egg (slightly runny if you choose), add 1 small diced up tomatato & mix it all together..
Eat & let the taste explode in your mouth.

  • If you guys didn't know, there's a difference between the 40 pack boxes and 30 pack boxes. The 30 pack boxes are the 'made for export' version whereas the 40 pack boxes aren't. There was some scandal in Taiwan with a banned ingredient, so I presume that the 'made for export' boxes don't include this ingredient.

    • +2

yup. its different quality.. taste like shit those "made for export".. so nooot original!

look at the water when draining.. its different colour.

  • I bought a box of the cheap ones and the noodle tastes different. Almost iddentical packing except the egg but I am quite sure it is the same company but that was probably the local ones. it is cheaper by a few cents, but not worth sacrificing the taste for that.

  • +1

They way I usually make it.
    Mie Goreng Omelet —
Beat 2 eggs (free range preferably) in a bowl, add boiled noodles to this along with the seasoning & sauce sachets and then mix well. Cook as you usually would make an omelet and after flipping over add a slice of cheese and a few dashes of Tabasco sauce.

  • -2

These are probably the awful Taiwanese ones.

    • Actually, these look to be the original ones. The ones in Woolies/Coles are the export ones.

      • See tran_p's comment

Ok now I own an Asian grocery the difference between the 40s and the 30s packs are 30s are from indonesia and The 40s are mass made from Taiwan, if I remember correctly and 30s are the original coming from indonesia which oriental merchant stock (importer) and this is why 30s are so expensive (original)

        • made from taiwan? all indomie made from indonesia, i believe the 40 packs for domestic but some people do for export as well. and 30 pack is the standard for export, because suit the container size.

  • +1

    Mie Goreng! Yea……

  • Indo Mee Goreng ! Tambah Telur

  • On the record, some mee goreng as mentioned by others above contains banned substance.

Note that they are not taiwanese made; they are all made in Indonesia.
Those produced for local contains the bannad substance, those produced for Australia, etc (countries that check for it when applying for importing) doesn't.
Basically, Taiwanese government first found out the banned substance and have ban them, then HK, and some other countries follow suit.

To check which version you are getting, check that they are not parallel import. If it is imported by "Oriental ***" (can't remember the full name), and that company is based in Australia, and the importer info is on the package cover, then it is legit. Eat Well.

Otherwise, throw it away, the banned substance caused issue with…mmmm…male where they have issue getting it up and having kids ;)

    • Otherwise, throw it away, the banned substance caused issue with…mmmm…male where they have issue getting it up and having kids ;)

      And so noodle begat noodle…

    • +3

So your saying the bad ones are an OzBargain for male birth control as well as a yummy lunch and/or dinner.

    • The Oriental packs i have also have the words 'export product' on the front top-right hand corner of the individual packs- easier to check this.

    • Doesnt matter, either way its still awesome :D

  • -6

Not a bargain, this is just the average price. Go into any Asian grocery store and you can get the same box for $10 or less.

    • -1

which shop? better u mentioned the shop, in sydney, i can't find anywhere for $10 or less. if you can't mentioned the shop name and proof it by picture, you vote should be revoke.

      • -2

I'm not gonna waste my time by going to the shop and taking a picture for you. I know they cost $10 because I by them for myself all the time, seriously why would I lie about something like this!

I don't know about Sydney, but in Melbourne you can go to Springvale, Glen Waverley or Footscray and you will easily get a box for $10.

        • There is always one of them…

        • -3

you only mentioned the suburb, inside the suburb got plenty of stores, do you understand what i said? the store, not the suburb. read carefully and answer the question!!!!!

    • +3

IMO no one has ever posted it on Ozbargain so I dont think you comment stands for anything

      • Don't get defensive, I'm not attacking you. I'm just reporting the facts, which are that it's possible to find them cheaper. Therefore my comment does stand for something.

P.S. I notice you live in Mulgrave, go to "Lotus Leaf Asian Groceries", it's in Brandon Park Shopping Centre, just next to Coles. I have bought boxes from there before for $10.

        • -4

a week ago? month? year? yeah i remember 10 years ago i can buy $10 in sydney, but not anymore now.

        • I bought a box from there 1 month ago!!! Seriously what is wrong with you joannatan. I'm sorry that you can't find them cheaper in Sydney, but in Melbourne they are!! And the OP is from Melbourne so just accept it.

        • -2

nothing wrong with me mate, i just want people be fair when they make a comment, please give us the supporting evidence. so the comment will be valid. you can said one item is cheaper on certain state, but as ozbargain, we want to know the exact location, not the general location.

and could you tell me which store in melbourne area that selling less than $10 a box?

        • +6

Mdippa is right. Im asian, they're cheap in footscray. As for the name of the store names..they are in viet or chinese so it makes it hard to type it. I always thought people knew this but it wasnt worth the hassle of travelling to an asian grocery and…the language barrier…to save couple dollars. Stood your ground well mate

        • +3

@mdippa this jonnatan is obviously having a bad day since he spent over $10 on Mi Goreng when he could have saved a $1 or $2.
That's right you can go to footscrayzy and get a box for under $10

  • +3

One pack of these noodles has the same saturated fat as a Quarter Pounder burger..

    • Seriously…?!
Ok that is kind of worrying..

    • +2

Not quite. A pack of Mi Goreng has 9g saturated, 18g total fat. A Quarter Pounder has 15.6g saturated, 30.3g total fat.

And if you don't add the oil part of the sauce, the numbers on the Mi Goreng approach zero.

  • +2

your body will be well preserved for quite a while.

    • +1

      modern mummification, awesome 1 stone 2 birds….

  • +1

why would you buy instant noodles and not use the packed flavouring…..???? if that's the case it's cheaper to just buy instant noodle without flavouring in packs of 5!!!

    • +2

they're only 27~ cents a pack lmao. Also the dry seasoning powder is something you can't get in stores iirc.

          1st i am not trans :)
second i am not ghost that can be transform to other thing

  • I used to get these for $7.5 a box a few years ago.
To make them a little healthier, let the them sit in boiling water for a couple of minutes until they are almost ready, then pour that water out.
Add your powdered MSG flavour, onion and black sause, DO NOT ADD that yuk palm oil crap. Then add fresh hot water and serve.

Like this you eliminate a lot of the palm oil that the noodles are fried in and that awful solidified crap that is in the end Sachet I think.

Also can of flavoured tuna mixed in is AWESOME. You need to add protein with carbs.

    • +1

add hot water at the end??? dude, you're making them wrong! mi goreng is not supposed to have soup!

I was referring to the part llama has quoted.

If you are worried about the oil in the noodles what you should do is, after boiling, drain the water and then rinse the noodles with boiling water again BEFORE mixing into the sauce. That might be what septimus meant, because what he wrote is not how mi goreng is supposed to be made!

    • Sorry I meant to add, rinse in boiling water after purging the first time. ie. no soup.

  • they are $11 a box all the time at the asian grocery on henley beach road, torrensville (SA)

nevertheless i will positive this because mi goreng is so awesome :D

    • Isn't it the other way around? We bought a 30 pack from an Asian grocer and it had 'export product' or something similar on it. All the text was in English too.

      • the one i sell (30) are the real one. oriental merchant (importer) sells the real ones

    • I've got some packets from a 40-box here and all words on it are Indonesian (except "Consumer service/Pelayanan konsumen). And all the words in the box on the pic in the OP are Indonesian. Are you sure about that?

      • 40 packs for indonesia domestic market, 30 packs for export market. someone import privately, not from the proper channel
