Saw this in the current catalogue. Looks decent at half price although I've never tried this Artisan range before. Anyone care to comment?

Sounds? I don't hear food. I eat food.

@jv sounds like you'll be eating humble pie if anything :)

Prefer their Slow Cooked Beef & Pepper pie or their Slow Cooked Beef With Shiraz & Cracked Pepper pie..

            • @jv: Weren't you anti-halal?

First time I had one of these pies was in Dubai, and it was great seeing an aussie pie overseas!

I add bacon to my pies.

@jv: i have to agree here. Those are 2 solid choices though they seem less chunky lately. Wouldn't mind trying Butter Chicken though

Absolutely! This is not artisan range, should be named 'multicutural range' 🤣😂

      • +1

Why can't it be called artisan range? Only anglocentric food is artisan?

        • -3

Nah you missed my point. Why would you stuff red curry chicken or moroccan chickpea in a disgraceful full of gluten pie housing?
Fusion food, mixed-breed creations just don't make sense whatsoever. Try medium rare angus steak with shrimp paste instead of gravy. 😏🙄

Anglo-Celtic food (meat pie) isn't sophisticated enough to have other fillings in them.
McDonalds just released Burger Pho flavour in Vietnam - disgusting piece of shit.😫😫

Can't speak for the Artisan range, but their Gourmet pies have taken a real turn downhill recently. They used to be a premium pie, good chunks of meat, but not so much any more.

    • Never eaten their big pies, but I’m a long time fan of the party pies and sausage rolls.

    • +4

Yep since their new packaging I've noticed less chunks of meat. They're still the best supermarket pies though

    • +5

Their Gourmet range was okay when discounted, but I'll always visit the local Vietnamese bakery for the best pies.

    • +1

Yep I've switched to Sargents, their pastry is nice and flaky

  • +4

Their Thai green curry pie was amazing. Pity they don't make that anymore.

    • Agreed!

NQR still sell these if you live in VIC! Pick them up all the time for ~$3.50

    • I use to buy them too!

    • +1

Yes, like @harla mentioned - NQR has STACKS of them. Also Shepparton Wholesale Foods in Bayswater VIC too.

    artisan, lol

I just bought the same pies at my local IGA yesterday on special for $4.
    not sure if national

  • +4

I've been waiting for the Butter Chicken pie to go on special as I want to try it.

    Hopefully they are good.

      Tad too sweet for me

      • +1

but only 3g sugars , with 770mg sodium

how can it be sweet ?

  • +1

    lunch sorted!

  • On a side note, anyone heated these up in an airfryer? Might give it a go

    • +4

Always I use the Airfryer for pies after just heating on Microwave. Nice and crispy.

    • Which air fryer is good? I read here the Kmart one seems to be quite popular. I need to get one.

      • I've got the Kmart one. My first air fryer, so can't compare. Works fine, mostly making chips in it. Only negative: the non-stick didn't last long, was getting sticky within the 1 year warranty period. Was too lazy to return it in the end, still using it, just a tad more hassle to clean.

        • Going out on a limb here, but airfryers are the best invention of the 21st century

        • what size? i saw kmart has the 1.5L for $49

can you put alu. foil in airfryer ?

          • @dcep: I've got the 3.2l. Wouldn't go any smaller.

            No problem with alufoil.

    • Yup, but defrosted it in the microwave first. Crisped up the pastry nicely.

  • The butter chicken ones are pretty decent for a frozen pie.

  • +1

You've made my day. Thanks op.

  • Red curry sold out already at my local woolworths le sigh

  • +1

2.37 kangaroos per pie - will stock up some boxes!

  • You can't look past their chicken & leek pies. Usually won't dip further than 20% off but when they're on sale I'd be sure to grab that flavour everytime :)

  • The Moroccan Chickpea and Vegetable cooks really well

    • +1

Just bought and ate for lunch. Pretty bland. Like a watered down Indian vege curry. Won't be buying again.

      • Ah that's sad to hear. Mine was alright with tomato sauce. Its hard to find plant-based pies.

  • So disappointed with the butter chicken pie… sauce is heavily tomato flavoured. Should have went with the thai curry one.

  • Red curry chicken was nice. Would be a cold day in hell if I ever paid $4.75 each, but for $2.37 I'd grab some more next time they're half price.

  • Love their gourmet steak pies! Wanted to give these a go but all gone at both my local Woolies.
