  • Damn! Boost never fails to impress!

    • +45

They failed to impress me when they got rid of the $150 80gb plan.

      • The $150 80GB plan still shows as a recharge option on the app up until you get to the screen where you enter your CC details. Does it not work after this?

        • -1

Existing customers get to keep the option, but not new customers.

        • They got loads of people into the $150 plan and have lock them down that they cannot escape! nice trick!

          • +7

@skinny: Why can't they escape? If by trick you mean they continue to offer these existing customers a good deal so they don't want to move away then I guess that is a good trick that a lot of businesses seem to have forgotten to retain customers.

            • @thestig: Agree that mobile vendors are mainly keen on new customers - perhaps something to do with how the providers are rated. Boost recharges seldom gets discounted.. and most people in ozbargain will port-in and out for saving that has been eliminated by this option.. this is retaining customers without much option..

              • +3

@skinny: Interesting logic. Personally I would much rather stick with the same provider who continues to offer a good deal than stuff around with porting in and out and getting caught up with providers who this isn't easy with to save a buck.

          • @skinny: How have they 'locked them down'?
They may still recharge $150 plan again which they initially signed up for.
They may still recharge higher/lower Boost Plans and get the benefits as per plan inclusions.
They may still port out to any other operator if they find a better deal.

            Locked down? Certainly no.
Great Business tactic to onboard new users legitimately? Certainly yes.

        • It was supposed to finish on the 11rh of this month. But I successfully recharged again.

It didn’t come up in their options, but when I googled Boost $150, it took me to the link and I was able to recharge with no dramas

      • That sucks. I was going to jump over when my belong credit was used, not to be it seems.

    • +2

Really happy with them - been with them 6 months or so now on this deal.

      • +1

Been with them for 9 months and I still have over a 100gb, gotta get a $20 rollover plan after

        • You can still get the $10 per month Belong plan? Not initially but you just change after the first month & you get two months initially for $25 + 2GB.

In fact this plan isn't that great, you could get the $10 a month Belong plan then buy data from eBay sellers at 20GB for $10. This data never expires so the first year costs you $245 & 242GB of data with any remaining data kept as roll over. Like Boost the network is Telstra.

          • @Kevin Coleman: Wow didnt know about these eBay sellers for Belong, seems sorta shady any risk of repercussions?

  • -1

I literally bought this over the weekend. Any chance to claim that $30 with Boost customer service?

  • +1

Can we price match with OW?

    • +2

Looks like it might be possible - I can't see how it's excluded from their T&C. Worth a shot…

    • +2

i did it in march, worked like a charm.

    • OW always price matched $150 Boost deals for me.

    • Yep, just give them a call. Should be $243 delivered for the SIM.

      • +1

How did you manage to get it on $243? Shouldn't it be $256.5 after price match? Am I missing something?

        • +1

          Yes should be 256.5
Came to Officeworks five dock, they price matched but says their rewards and gift cards system is down, so I couldn't buy it :(

          • +1

@IRunMan: I recently bought it from tovmobile at $250. It was listed as $300 but has an option to make an offer. I offered $250 and it got accepted. Still expensive than the OW price match combined with GC deal but cheaper than the rest.

        • My mistake, you're right. It's 5% price beat, not 10%, therefore $256.50

      • hi which number? i been to their store but they cant do it because no stock and unable to order from store. they advise me to make order online. but which number i need to call?

    • -1

Dumb question but what is OW?

      • +2

OfficeWorks. They offer a 5% price beat.

        • -1

Oooft - I'm going for this cheers.

  • +4

Where did the $150 plan go. Miss that

    • -1

Seems to have been discontinued - perhaps they weren't making any money on it?

    • Me too. Anyone knows most similar plan to that with international included?
This 240GB data is too much for me as I'm mostly on Wi-Fi at home or office.

      • my wife is using the 20 a month one (boost) to get intl calls, and i think it is 5 gb data. at this price, if you price beat at officeworks it ends up being $21.38 a month, but you get way more data, in case we ever leave our homes again. The other option is amaysim, but havent checked their prices recently

        • just saw $150-80gb 12 month recharge is still there online. Only available to existing customer i believe

    • +1

Thats a real shame. Wife and I are both on the $150 plan and it really suits. We use bugger all while at home but can go thru' it while away, so our lumpy usage really suits the annual plan. Means Boost will be losing two customers when our plans expire
Edit: Just read https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/557305 Seems we might be OK..

      • +1

Read above about the recharge before you jump ship.

    • I just did it today. Bought a 2 dollar sim kit and port number over from optus. I was able to select 150 dollar recharge option and it went through successfully

      • my understanding is that there are some $150 dollar new recharge cards still around. you can port with that, but you cannot re-charge it again at that price next time around (unless you have done it before the cut-off date).

        • But if its auto renew, wouldn't it just renew the current plan?

  • +1

    I have two questions:

    1. What you guys do if the 240GB is not enough for the whole year?

    2. If I travel to overseas, I don't need phone calls but sometimes I need to receive SMS code for the verification purpose. Can I still receive it? I saw there is a pack for overseas roaming. Has anyone tried it previously?

    Thanks

    • +6

Not an expert, but I will take a shot:

      1. You can recharge early if your data is all used up. You can move to a monthly prepaid, or re-up your 12 month recharge and get another 240GB.

      2. There are $5 and $15 add-ons that allows international roaming with calls, data etc while overseas. Making calls, sending SMS are charged at a premium, but receiving SMS while those add-ons are active is free according to the fine print: https://boost.com.au/international-roaming/#ADD-ONS

    • Thanks mate! I found that the Boost mobile plan is always so popular which must be really good.

    • +2

Yes you will receive SMS whilst overseas. The reason why I use BOOST.

It worked for me in Singapore and Indonesia.

      .

    • +2
      1. I'm on the $150/80GB plan and have barely used 10GB in the last 6 months since I've been WFH, so can't comment.

      2. You don't need to be on a roaming pack to receive SMS.

    • for 2, generally speaking, receiving SMS is free while roaming

  • Port out and port in.

  • -1

tried to find the info about activating the sim time but cannot find it in the website. Anyone knows how soon should I activate the sim after I receive it? The reason I am asking is my current plan stops on 3rd Oct. It would be great if can activate it around 30th Sep to maximise out my current plan.

  • Yer how long do we have to activate the Sim.

    • Just checked the Officework website and the answer for “how long do you get after purchase before this needs to be activated?” by an OWproductcontent is “ you can activate this after any time period after purchase.” I guess this will apply to the website sold sim plan as well.

  • Deals for current customers?

  • +2

    Officeworks price match

    • Do they?

      • +1

        yes.

      • Negative for asking clarification. Don’t show ur frustration on me.

  • Quick query fellow Ozbargainers - If I am already on Boost $150 and data is about to expire, will this recharge change the 12 month expiry date or the 12 months from this recharge are added to the $150 expiry date? TIA

    • It says new customers. Don't think you can

      • Just saw the answer. Thanks

        • +2

I am fairly sure what happens is:
          - your 365 days starts the day you use the recharge code, it's end date will be today+365
          - if you have a current running plan (so it was 23 days left), that stays and you will use the data from that over the next 23 days
          - if you chew that data within 23 days, you'll start using your new allocation automatically
          - if you don't chew it, it'll disppear after 23 days

    • +2

Below is the question asked by a user in the Boost Mobile Community:

early Plan Recharge before the expiry date

I have a question, what if I recharge couple of days before the plan expiry date, does my next expiry date get moved couple of days earlier as well or does it stays the same?

      Reply :

Unfortunately not. It does not "stack" on top. You would be forfeiting those few days

Looking at the above reply it looks like in your case it will change the 12 month expiry date on the date of recharge.

      • Wow that’s disappointing, thanks for the heads up

      • but this is not a re-charge voucher.. its for new customers?

    • +1

As you are already on it, you can still recharge on the $150 plan if that still suits.

  • Wonder if Boost will ever start providing esims ?

    • +1

      and the survey says….

    • probably if/when Telstra allows the Telstra wholesale network to use them (yes I know Boost is special)

  • +1

New customer only? Not for recharging ?

  • -1

Why did they get rid of the $150 plan? It was hands down one of the best plan on the market!

    • It’s still available (for now at least) to existing customers if you recharge via the app or keypad.

      • and new customer too

  • +1

Man with kogan dropping 9.99 - 15 dollar deals on 3 months @ 60 gig quiet regularly lately (and that can be recharged on existing accounts) , don't see the point in jumping on this (unless you want the other perks for the additional dollars obvs)

    • +3

The main value I see in boost prepaid is the unlimited international calls and text. Not many plans can offer unlimited international on prepaid or at (at 22/month). The older $150 plan was much better value.

      • Too bad it's always to countries that I have no interest in calling.

        • +4

Lol, which country do you have INTEREST in calling? Syria, Afghanistan, Neverland?

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: What's with the casual racism?

Albania, Georgia, Turkey too pedestrian to you?

            • @Hahuh: Racism? What are you talking about? It's the wording you used. People call because they need to, not because they have an interest.

              • -1

                @[Deactivated]: Don't play coy.
                Syria, Afghanistan, Neverland?
Who are you kidding with that comment?

Need / interest. What realm do you live in that using colloquial terms is even remotely regarded as an issue?

    • I'm on the $15 deal from Kogan, so can i use the 9.99 voucher for recharge?

      • Not sure. I think some people had there 3 months reset so it depends on how far in you are if it's worth it. Mine was expired

  • You can still get the$150 80GB for one year here

Existing customers who activated before 10th aug here

    • I activated today and can still recharge through the boost website for $150.

    • Thanks buddy. Bought two, one for me and one the wife. I went to OW Belconnen ACT and didn’t see they have the $300 in stock. Ordering online for price match is just too much hassle. Then I realize we don’t need much data given WFH situation. So decided to get the $150 plan when I can.

      • Have you had any trouble activating/porting your numbers over? I’ve just bought two 12 month sims like you did and then saw some horror stories of people not being able to get their sims working over at productreviews.com.au and boost mobile community forums.

  • if have been on the $150 plan before the change, I presume if you port out and in to take this offer, you lose that ability to re-charge for $150 again on the 80GB plan.

  • +2

So much inaccurate information here. The $150 80GB 12 month recharge is available to both existing and new customers (simply activate a $2 SIM and select $150 recharge).

    • -1

      Not really!

If you go to their website: https://boost.com.au/shop/150-prepaid/

80GB FOR 12 MONTHS. RECHARGE AVAILABLE TO CUSTOMERS WHO ACTIVATE BEFORE 10 AUGUST

      • +1

That's an old inaccurate webpage. There's no link to it from the Boost website. Go to the Boost main page and read the CIS and you'll see that the $150 recharge is still available to everybody.

Read this thread and you'll see that the $150 recharge is still available to old and new customers
        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9zvvky19?p=-1#bottom

  • Did anyone manage to buy from OW with price beat?
I tried in OW homebush, they were ready to proce beat and give for 256.5, but say their gift cards system is down, so can't make the purchase.

  • While I'll probably end up with this come the end of my contract with Optus. Having a look around, Kogan (I know voda not Telstra) has 200GB for $200, 275GB for $275 and 486GB for $335.

My wife has been using Kogan for the last 2 years and it works a little better than Optus in our area (North Melbourne), my experience with Telstra was about on par for our suburb but better in the CBD.

  • Worst customer service and unexpected changes to ongoing plan. I was on their $150 plan, had unlimited calls to India. They stopped it all of a sudden. It took me continuous 1 and a half month of hours long calls to their customer service, who kept tossing me among their different departments and those of Telstra with no solution. Little saving with a plenty fuss eating much of your time and energy, leaving you far less productive.

    • I have to concur that their customer service is below par. I filed a complaint a few weeks ago about their poor customer service, and you know what, I got a call back from Telstra telling me that I need to contact Boost about my complaint. I'm still baffled why and how the hell Boost passed my complaint on to Telstra

    • vikaskamboj You must have breached their fair use policy.
