Omg. It's getting lower and lower. Should have waited before I made my purchase.

    • how do you find it ? any regrets

      • Purchased on the gearbite deal on the weekend. It's not yet shipped. =(

    • wait for the next couple of weeks…
you'll see the end of the year sale :)

  • +15

Think I'm going to wait a few months for this one.

Should be sub $500 by this rate

  • +2

    Make it 500.

  • +22

$20 cashback via Cashrewards tonight also.

  • $500 and from a decent vendor. Not kogon to gearbust

  • Stupid question, is it preferred to have HDMI, Display Port or USB-C?

    • +10

Display Port cause it's the only one that guaranteed Adaptive Sync for both AMD and Nvidia.

    • +5

Also DP is highest bandwidth of all three.

    • +3

I got the Dell U2721DE from OzB recently.
That has a powered USB, which I didnt really know what it did.

But the monitor acts like a dock!

I connect my ethernet, keyboard, mouse etc… to it and I plug in my Lenovo using
the USB C and that's it.

I dont even need the power cable cos the monitor supplies the power too.

      • +2

@calcium thanks for the recommendation, that is the exact type of setup I'd like to aim for as well. I purchased a Lenovo laptop via the cashrewards sale a couple of weeks back and looking for a monitor that will both power the laptop and screen share etc.

  • makes my 27GL850 too expensive or too small. :((

    • I prefer the 27GL850 to this Xiaomi. No regrets! Its an awesome monitor (just forget about the price!)

      • thank you, i'm feeling that i've bought the right 1 now.

    • That monitor has been described as "the best" monitor so far with the viewsonic behind it this year. Don't feel too bad.

      • Thank you, i'm feeling much better now, knowing i've made the right decision.

  • +2

Dammit! Just got one from the Gearbite deal late last week too

This is an even better price

  • -1

worth waiting/looking for a monitor with hdmi 2.1?

    • Why HDMI2.1?

      • +13

        Dude wants 4K 120hz on a 2K monitor.

  • +27

S**t … bit the bullet. Didn't need it.

Now I have 5 monitors, what is wrong with me?

      • ……minus the BJ.

    • what is wrong with me? —> you have too much cash?

  • +6

i think Gearbite is better - aussie stock and warranty for only 10 more. OOS but probably arrive the same time as this lol

This. Kogans is the "International version" and still 2 weeks off

      • I think Kogan's been OzB'd. Said 1-2 days when first posted.

    • Isn't gearbite not Aussie stock?

      • i think they have the stock here and seems returns / warranty is a breeze

      • +1

Your correct it was mobile/all selling from the aussie distro. Monitor must have a posting record in this time span

  • Should I cancel my s2721dgf order for this??

    • yes.

    • +2

depends, to many things to be taken into account tbh. Its a great budget option. the quality of the dell will probably smash this out of the water, will have a better warranty, better frame rate. and response time, its IPS nano.

This monitor is fantastic value for money, though. you need to do the research and look at the pros and cons of each, i wouldnt recommend either one without knowing what your after.

      • I think both monitors are great, but there aren't many reviews for the dell monitor and the order has been delayed. This is a great deal so I'm not sure if I should get this one.

        • +1

gotta remember this this is more power hungry as well… as in it will take a bigger gpu to power it. its 30% more screen, from memory, then the dell, so harder to drive. what GPU do you have?

          • @dadgamer: I have a 1060, but i'm planning to upgrade soon anyways.

            • @RGBforLIFE: will struggle to run either of these at a reasonable frame rate to be honest. What monitor do you have now?

              • @dadgamer: it's a crap samsung 24inch monitor running at 60hz.

                • @RGBforLIFE: very tricky mate, anything would be an upgrade. What gpu are you looking to upgrade too? that will pretty much make the decision for you

                  • @dadgamer: yeah any monitor would be an upgrade. Probably a 2060 at the moment, but still deciding tho.

                    • @RGBforLIFE: 5600 xt could be a better choice: cheaper than a 2060, performance is closer to a 2060 super - you just have to make sure you get a card with the updated firmware or flash it yourself. Stretching to a 5700 xt or higher would probably suit these monitors better if you're playing new titles.

As for the monitors, as a general rule IPS panels like the dell will have: better colour accuracy and colour gamut, better motion handling (some people report minor ghosting on moving contrasting edges with VA panels), and much better viewing angles. The dell also has a slightly higher refresh rate, but I doubt it would be noticeable.

VA panels tend to have better contrast, and are cheaper, hence the much bigger panel for a similar price.

    • -3

No, this one is worse off in like everything except for the 21:9 aspect ratio which if you're looking for immersion, might as well buy 32:9

      • What the (profanity) no, 32:9 monitors are insanely expensive and cost a huge amount of processing power to even rub well, 21:9 is the far better option unless you’re someone who does professional work on a computer like video editing and need as much screen real estate as possible.

  • -6

    I will wait until it’s 450, it’s 400 in China

  • +2

is there any in-depth review for this monitor yet?

  • -2

Don't get why this monitor is so popular it's not IPS and there's cheaper alternatives???

    • +11

      there are cheaper monitors
but not cheaper monitors with these specs.

happy to be proved wrong so i can buy that monitor. hopefully its an IPS as well :)

    • Not entirely sure, however, some people prefer VA over IPS.

    • +6

"Not IPS" was a valid criticism 5 years ago. No more. They've improved VA. And don't forget about IPS glow. VA doesn't suffer from that.

The thing about this display which some may not realise is that the curved screen is 1500r, which is the more aggressive curve compared with 1800r, found in other ultra displays. For things like productivity, video editing etc, the flatter curve is more beneficial. For games, maybe more curve is better.

      • IPS glow

I can and will forget about it because I've never seen it in my entire life. What… is… IPS glow? I have many IPS displays and don't see it.

        • No IPS monitor can resolve black. When it tries, it ends up glowing patchy grey, which can only really be noticed at night in low lit room. It's a non-issue if you've never noticed. VA monitors do not have this issue.

example of ips glow, which is exaggerated because the room lights are off…

    • +2

IPS is not without its own drawbacks, and shouldn't be considered the holy grail of panel tech.

Modern VA panel tech has come a long way, and is better than IPS in some ways.

Feel free to point out cheaper 34" 1440p 21:9 ultrawide screens with high refresh rates, I'm sure we'd all be eager to hear about them.

  • +2

I won’t resist anymore if it is $480!

  • Would be great if they released a 32".
Need a secondary monitor for my ultrawide.

  • I'm in the market for a new ultrawide monitor, but I can't decide if I should get this or an IPS monitor like the X34P?

    What's better for gaming?

I'm not too worried about the blacks being black.

    Thanks in advance

    • +2

if you can afford it, x34p are amazing monitors, you are paying a bit for the brand, but they also keep more value as well. if i had the cash, and could only choose between the two, ild go x34p. Still, depends what your expecting/wanting for your money though.

      • I could stretch out to the X34P, but the only reason I'd do that is if the IPS panel is worth it over this one's VA. I'm not particularly worried about resale value. I tend to hold onto things a while.

Is one better for gaming? I'm just reading up on the difference between the panels at the moment.

        • +1

it depends on taste really, some people like VA for the contrast, im one of them to be honest, but the lack of ghosting on IPS can be worth it. What Gpu are you using?

          • @dadgamer: 2080 Super with a 9700k

I feel like I'm not going to get incredible FPS at ultrawide 1440p.

Currently using a 144hz 1080p TN monitor. Can't say ghosting has bothered me that much.

Thanks for the posts. Will look into it a bit more before pulling the trigger.

            • @DogGunn: 2080s should give you some good FPS on most games dude almost definitly be able to get over 100fps with a couple of tweaks, im running a 1080ti with 2 1080p 144htz VA panels, im probably going to upgrade my GPU first, but if these monitors come down any mroe im going to bight the bullet and get one :)

        • +1

"Better for gaming" is difficult to answer when they'd both be good.

It's easy to scare people with IPS glow… here's a video of IPS glow on the X34P… https://youtu.be/FbKG7L4CI8o

Colour accuracy and uniformity steps up to save IPS from its glow situation.

VA panels do better at night with black, but who cares? Also note that on an ultrawide, the IPS glow will be more pronounced, as it tends to reveal and shift itself depending on your position. But then again, the curve may offset that shifting effect. See… there is no answer to your question. Just buy something.

        • I have the x34p and it's a great monitor. But for this price the Xiaomi is excellent too (Will be buying one as a second display) Dare I say the Xiaomi will have better contrast and it goes brighter too by reviews. Solid build quality, adjustable stand, and an extra 24mhz refresh rate. The only advantages I can see with the x34p is better viewing angles (IPS) USB and crappy speaker (I don't use them) built in, and G-Sync (Freesync supported on Nvidia cards anyway)

Basically if you are on the fence about buying one don't be. It's a great monitor for the money and once you go 1440p ultra-wide you will never go back when gaming. The only caveat is you need a reasonable beefy GPU to game on AAA titles at high refresh rate ala GTX1080/RTX2070 upwards

  • +1

I'm just about to build myself a new gaming PC bit by bit as bargains come up but think I'll hold off on the monitor just a bit longer.

I don’t understand why this monitor gets a free pass from the peanut gallery.

Any time a monitor with a VA panel is posted here, and it is time to get out the pitchforks for it not being IPS.

But every time this Xiaomi monitor is posted, billions of sperm meet their demise.

    • The "It's not IPS" pitchfork brigade are the ones that should be lambasted for their outdated religious fervour for their preferred panel tech.

It gets people excited because 34" UWQHD monitors used to be completely unaffordable, and this is the first one with a decent feature set that's dropped much below $1000. The fact that several retailers are competing on price for a desirable device is fantastic for consumers.

I suspect it's also because Covid19 has forced a lot of people into working from home and/or playing PC games more than usual, and people are improving their PC setup rather than spending on travel, social events etc.

I don't trust the Verge with tech reviews anymore…

      • That's fair enough - the Verge has lost a lot of credibility - but I think that particular review is a pretty accurate summary of what you can expect.

      • why is that? did I miss something?

  • Curious as to some of the opinions of what better monitors exist with a similar feature set? I.e. ultrawide, 34", 1440p (equiv), freesync high refresh rate?

This one ticks all the boxes for me, including price. But reading some of the cautionary opinions makes me wonder if I shouldnt look at the other alternatives.

    • +1

I was in the same situation as you, and I've been searching for something affordable to use as a workstation and gaming monitor.

Now using this screen, and have zero regrets. Works great for gaming, and the extra real estate when working is outstanding.

I assume that I'm not sensitive to ghosting, because I haven't noticed any in the week or so I've been using it.

      • Cheers.

In my brief research, I haven't been able to find another model with comparable specs that isn't almost twice the price.

My only concern is some of the people talking about issues with text rendering, which may or may not be from faulty displays.

I think I'll take the plunge. For the cost I can get it with some decent monitor arms to go with it.

        • I only had text rendering issues at 144hz. Changed to 120hz and it is way better. Not sure if it is my GPU or something else but yeah.

  • How many kgs is this monitor, need to get a mount. Doesn't say in the specs.

  • Whats the next step up from this to get into an IPS monitor?

    • Acer Nitro XV340CKP at $800 or so is the cheapest I'm aware of (if you can find one). After that is the Acer Predator X34P at $1200.

      • thats a big jump to the x34p!
anything under 1000 in a curved display?

        • IPS and curved for the most part don't go together, because it seems that it's very expensive to do.

  • +2

Anyone in Melbourne want a spare stand for theres some e-waste? I upgraded to a North Bayou monitor arm and now I've got a useless monitor stand that I feel bad about throwing out.

    • Is it adjustable and VESA at all?

My work PC's Lenovo stand I'm pretty sure is made out of leftover toothpicks.

      • Nope, whilst it's sturdy and height adjustable it clips in rather than using VESA.
