    TN panel kills the deal.
I didn't even know that 4k panels have TN.
Whats the point of getting a 4K panel with TN?
You can get 4K IPS monitors for $450

    • +1

I got one primarily to use for work (word processing and spreadsheets). The crisp text makes a huge difference.

If you're doing lots of image editing or viewing from all different angles then you might prefer IPS.

      • +35

might as well get a IPS model for $50 extra no matter what your type of work is

      • I agree with this. I used to own two TNs but now forced to two P2419h IPS monitors. I have to reduce the brightness for working on documents as they're hurting my eyes. Also I feel like everyone can see my screen clearly when I'm reading news at work. Maybe that's why they upgraded my TN monitors lol.
Yes, for photos videos etc IPS panels are better. But TN panels are not bad at all.

Friends don’t let friends use a TN panel monitor…

      • +3

I agree. Its hard to believe how bad a tn is once you've used anything else.

        • +2

I mean not all TN panels are the same.
But even a good TN just is no comparison to IPS, unless you’re going for some crazy refresh rate.

        • +5

Plenty of rubbish IPS monitors have done the rounds dont worry about that. I've seen some quality TNs better than some similarly priced IPS (off centre viewing excluded of course), it definitely exists. I've got IPS, VA, and a TN and gone through a few of each over the past 15yrs. But yes for basic office type use a decent IPS every day of the week.

    • Acer TNs are usually not too bad. There are plenty of horrible IPS and VA ones too lol

      • +1

        It's a Samsung TN panel.

    • It's not that it's a TN panel, it's that it's a bad TN panel.

      What's a good 4K IPS monitor for $450?

      • yes i want to know too .. can you guys please list some of the better IPS monitors 4K for 450$.

Have one of these, excellent colour performance for the price.

I purchased 2 of these 28" 4K from Lenovo website and got them for $425 each by asking in Chat if they would sell 2 of them to me for that price.
Great monitor so far. No speaker, no portrait rotation, but I have monitor arms and work in an office packed in like sardines so these downsides weren't an issue for me.
I am not a monitor expert but they look crisp as. I only get 60fps in excel but thats not a dealbreaker for me

    • What are the choices for 4K IPS? It doesn't feel like that long ago that 4K wasn't really an option for an affordable IPS.

  • The bezel is too thick in today’s standard

Isn't the Refresh Rate: 60Hz is a little low?

    • +7

Most 4k monitors in this price range are only 60hz

    • +2

      It’s not a gaming monitor

      • nowhere near this price either for anything >60hz. Happy to be proven wrong. I checked 2 days ago and the next up is a X27 for ~$1.5k.

    there's a samsung LU28E590DS/XY 4k TN 60 Hz on TGG commercial for $368

also the Samsung LU28R550UQEXXY 4K IPS 60Hz could be had for ~$380 at Catch last week

    • oh for real … how did i miss that deal. been waiting on Samsung LU28R550UQEXXY deal :(

  • I'd love a curved 4k monitor, mostly for work purposes. Can anyone recommend a good value option? ta…

    • +2

Dell has an ips curved 32inch 4k ips monitor. Think it was on sale for 600 last week. Will prob be on sale tomorrow with the eBay store sale.

If ur after an ultrawide for work the xiaomi 34inch one for 500 (search this site) will be good for work purposes. Heard it has a bit of light bleed but that won't matter that much unless ur doing graphics stuff

      • +1

Thanks mate. Question is that xiaomi 34inch doesn't have a 4k panel?

        • WQHD, which is lower res than 4K - most ultra wide monitors have the same resolution.

  • +3

    TN! yuk!

  • -7

    is this really a bargain?how..

  • +1

I see a lot of negative comments, but can somebody recommend a better monitor in a similar price range.
Looking to use it as the third screen on my computer setup, which would also have a Nintendo switch and a Xbox one x plugged into it for casual gaming,
Basically looking to have a casual game station Monitor with speakers, which can also double as a third computer screen.

      here you go https://www.catch.com.au/product/samsung-28-uhd-monitor-6028…

it'll be ~$390 if I give you a student discount code and pay with the 15% off gift card from Paypal

This one is 4K IPS 28"

    • I have an AOC G2 27" 144hz that's pretty good for gaming and WFH, got it for $300 just at the start of covid. Nb, is only 1080

      • I don't think there's any point with high refresh rate for consoles

        • If you also use as a computer monitor then it's still worth going for 144hz IMO, even for browsing

          • +1

@MiscOzB: 144hz is not worth the dismal dpi of 27 inch at 1080p

            • @ln28909: I know.. I mentioned below that ppi is bad on a 27" at 1080p. I have the 24" G2

      • Really bad ppi for 1080 at 27" though, better to get the 24" if you go with 1080

    • AOC U2790VQ.

    • If you're just looking for a not massive monitor and you're not doing any creative work on it why do you need 4K?

      • Have a Xbox one x plugged into it, so wanted to enjoy the better settings. The Xbox and switch are also the reason why speakers with the monitor are important, as I didn’t want to have to wear headphones every time I played

        • You'd just be giving up framerate consistency for minimal gains. I'd go 1440p.

  • +1

I got it with the same price in March, a panic buy for WFH prior to 1st stage lockdown.

As said, it is thick, heavy, thick bazel, and the colour accuracy is quite average…

I managed to sell it at similar price when the price when the price was $449 in OW.

  • Anyone like the Benq EW2780Q?

  • +1

I've set these up in a previous gig for artists in a games company. They're terrible - inconsistent colour, washed-out, smearing, etc. It's like looking at a monitor via a sheet of old perspex. Avoid.

  • I have one of these… got mine for $350 as it was a display model. Its kinda underwhelming but at 350 I am happy with it. It took me a while to get the color to my liking. I would not recommend this monitor if you are able to pick something else up at a similar price.

  • Yeah I would avoid this monitor personally. Not only is 4k overkill for this size, the colours are not great. Unless you absolutely need 4k then 1440p IPS will be a better choice for most users.

  • I am afraid this has now expired, it retails for $449.00 now.
