  • no 5g??

No one wants the current 5G. In a few years when you upgrade this phone, 5G might actually be what we want, not just a 4G piggyback.

  • +1

I just ordered the redmi pro note 9 on tobydeals a couple of days ago. Through ozbargain

Should I cancel and get this?

    • +1

For me it's worth the extra 50 bucks for Poco x3. Better speakers, bigger battery, slightly better processor(not much an upgrade tho), 120ghz refresh rate. The Note Pro 9 has the dedicated microsd slot if that's important but still reckon Poco is better buy.
I cancelled my order from TD (raised dispute) via Paypal for quick cancellation and they've reversed payment.

      • can you help guide me on how to do a quick cancellation,
I dont know how on paypal

        • +3

In Paypal click on Tobydeals in completed transaction > report a problem > 'I didn't receive an item I purchased' and write you want to cancel order and obtain full refund, but before you do email [email protected] just so they are aware and do the Paypal dispute straight after.

As long as your order is still processing should be no issue.

          • @dingdong3000: Thank you for the help.

I emailed tobydeals that i wanted refund due to delays and change of mind.
And then I followed your paypal dispute steps.

Now i am waiting for tobydeals to officially do a cancellation. I hope they don't do anything funny like say they packaged the item already.

In the meantime, I just bought this Poco X3 deal, the price I got it was $366 with the coupon. I also used cashrewards.

I am excited for this deal.

          • @dingdong3000: Have you received any response from tobydeals yet?
I haven't although the status on their site says 'Paypal reversed'.

I logged into paypal and saw this paypal in the resolution centre:

"You'll need to allow some time for the order to arrive. If you don't receive your item by Thursday, 10 September 2020, you can escalate this to PayPal."

Should we escalate this ourselves tomorrow or wait more?

            • @MagicTsukai: They replied to my cancellation email same day but indication of PayPal reversed means refund is being processed. Wait till their eod tomorrow for confirmation. I emailed them early AM and got response just after 7pm

              • @dingdong3000: I got an email from tobydeals today, and they confirmed the cancellation. Didn't have to do anything else on the paypal website.
                Thanks alot for the help.

I got a shipping message already from aliexpress today as well. How awesome.

                • @MagicTsukai: Let us know, when they actually refund
I am in the same boat, and they havent even replied to my email yet .. 3 days and counting
                  Status is Paypal reversed too

                  • @ozblogger: I got my refund 2 days after TD confirmed my cancellation. You'll get an email from Paypal saying you're receiving a refund from TD.

                    • @dingdong3000: Just received the emails
One each from Paypal and toby, saying the refund is being processed. So alls well that ends well here
Now to buy some accessories for poco

    • comparison: if you didnt get the note 9 pro, you might want to consider:

construction, 120hz screen, battery, 2 slots or 3

  • Ok how do you know when it arrives?
Noobie Question but who is AliExpress using? AusPost?

    • I'm not sure who they use, they just call it 'standard shipping'.

    • +1

For this probably E-Packet China which will be delivered by AusPost.

    • They have tracking for most things I have bought … though how helpful it is depends … I ordered a strip of LEDs July 7th, tracking shows it was accepted by the airline 10 days later, then finally 'left country of origin August 8th … nothing since.

      • its now taking 2-3 months to deliver.

  • +1

    120Hz screen on a $294 phone… Wow

  • Too bad the USB-C is version 2.0….does it mean it cannot be used as a TV box via HDMI-USB-C cable?

    • +1

      tell me too

      • +2

Techtablets did a review on this and he said it's data only on the type C , no hdmi out

  • +1

Thanks. Ordered. Has anyone received their confirmation email?

    • +1

but it has metal frame though

      • +1

I've been looking for something like this for months

        • There are plenty of others, that's just the first I've found. :)

  • Can we use cashrewards alongwith mentioned coupon?

    • Coupon(s) that arn't listed on CR should make the cashback invalid but worth a punt.

  • I hope the photography is as good as Iphone 10 !!

  • +3

Thanks OP. Cancelled redmi note 9 pro with toby deals, and ordered the x3. In a way its good toby was still stuck in processing.
Here's hoping it arrives before vic lockdown ends :)

    • No worries. I'm sure it will arrive before 2023.

      • wow from reading this thread looks like Toby be having a few cancellations.

  • Still got my Mi9 SE 128gb, Not sure I need to part with it just yet! lol

    • +1

was happy with the 9se, but after 6 mths of use it stoped to charge
and 3000 battery its only for half a day

  • I feel my 4GB ram phone is quite sluggish, will it better to go for 6gb or 8gb? Or is the ram not such a big determinant as the processor?

  • Anyone able to recommend a case for this? Checking online and can't seem to find any cases for the Poco X3

    • +2

Comes with a basic clear TPU case

      • +1

Wow. It really does have everything you need!

    • Its first day of sales. Wait for couple of weeks
And yes, tpu case in the box

  • Just bought one for the missus. but the $10 off code is not working when you just buy one item..

    • did you buy the 128GB model?

      • +1

Yes,128GB. It says the amount is not enough.

  • +1

    Such a good value phone.

    • +2

Everything in the price bracket with similar specs, from that list it seems only the Huawei P40 lite might be faster (and well, it's a Huawei..) and the higher price bracket to include Pixel 4a for comparison.

This is at least 15% faster than the pixel 4a and should have much better battery. At half the price. The camera quality also seems 'good enough' that spending that extra $300 can't be justified. It's likely you can install (Google) Camera PX anyway.
Edit: Looking at DXOMark, it's currently the 10th best camera (based on sensor) on the market, and seems to have better overall and daylight (sacrificing some night time) performance vs the Pixels.

  • Got one. Thanks OP.

  • Would VoLTE work fine on boost?

    • +2

Bought it anyways. Checked and it seemed to have all the bands that Telstra/Boost uses so I guess it should work.

  • -2

Is it better than the original F1 pocophone?

    • waiting for F3

    • +4

Was negged for a legitimate question?

  • +1

Which variants are most people getting? 64GB/128GB.

With all things the same, it's cheaper to just buy a MircoSD card as opposed to going straight for the 128GB variant.

Is there anything additional apart from the 64GB difference in space and the ~$60AUD Price Tag between the two ?

    • you forget one slot is shares sim and sd, so if you put sd card there then you cannot have 2 sims, which is more valuable than $60

    • I only use about 32GB of my 64GB phone storage, so 64GB is fine for me (and there's always the SD card if that becomes an issue).

The internal storage will likely be faster than a microsd, but you probably wouldn't notice if all you're storing externally is media or such.

  • Global NFC

    What is this?

    • +4

      New strain of covid19 :)

  • Just ordered, likely will take a LONG time to get here. But for that price, WHY NOT!

  • +1

I might buy this when it's on sale at JB Hi-Fi

  • +3

Just paid 238.88 USD for 64GB Grey version, delivered by DHL. Hopefully worth the extra delivery fee for quick shipping.

    • Let us know when you get it, so we can all be jealous of not having paid 10% extra for slightly(?) faster delivery.

      • Fingers crossed!

I ordered a camera tripod from China/AliExpress on July 13. It departed China on the 18th, arrived in Australia on the 22nd. 49 days later, still nothing! And I've got a few other items in limbo also.
It seems that the dispatch and airline sides of things are a little slower than normal, but once it gets to Oz, it's a total disaster.

At least with DHL, they'll probably use their own planes(?) and delivery network, and less likely to be held up with the other AusPost packages. It's a gamble.

    • Has yours been shipped yet? I paid extra for DHL shipping too.

      • Nope still waiting for it to be shipped :(

  • I am waiting for a better price! The RRP has been released and it's much cheaper.

    • What is the RRP?

      • Something like $220 US for 6GB/128GB

    • +3

      A better price??? LOL

How long are you prepared to wait? If you wait a couple of years, I will give you mine for free.

      • LOL…. It's been just released. I think stocks should be available in a couple of days in overseas. The standard price is around $220US for 6/128GB.

Maybe wait for Tobydealsau in a couple of days.

        • I'd be supprised to see the 6/128Gb go at $220 when their flash price is $249

That would break their internet sales strategy

          • @[Deactivated]: That could be right but the RRP price is also true if you check their overseas pricing.

            • @YasimKudomi: When price drop happens, new model be out. It was already damn cheap during flash sale. Keep in mind Xiaomi pumps out new devices every 3/6/9 months

  • -4

    215g…lol

    • +1

There are ~41 heavier phones on the market.
There are ~22 lighter or equiv weight phones with the same or larger screen size, and with a stainless steel or aluminium frame (like the Poco X3).

So this one is towards the lower weight range of what it is. What exactly are you seeking?

There are zero phones with all this in mind and a larger battery.
The two models that come close start at ~$1200 AUD.
The weight of the Samsung M51 isn't recorded yet.

      • -1

It is too much. Poco F1 is "lighter" and with better CPU. I can see myself using it. iPhone 8 plus is a example of heavy phone that are deal breaker

        • +3

          Poco F1 is "lighter"

15% lighter for 22% less battery and 8% smaller screen (and no HDR10 or 120Hz).

          and with better CPU.

301,581 vs 332,586 antutu (v8) - yeah the F1 is about 10% faster in this test.

What else is the F1 lacking?

          • $70 in your wallet (25% more expensive)
          • Band 28
          • NFC
          • Newer camera sensor
          • Near EOL in MIUI/Android updates as it's two years old
      • The POCO X3 is so similar to the note 9 pro max in term of hardware. The main different are quicker screen 120zh, better graphic 735 and SONY camera, and I think it should be around $30US cheaper than note 9 pro.

Yes, it's a bit heavier but it is the best value for money in the market right now for a brand name mobile, considering it is about 75% cheaper than iphone 11 with 64GB.

The problems are the delivery time and most of the overseas sellers don't take paypal, so it's risk factor.

  • Sep 9, 2020 Aliexpress-Cainiao Packed for picking-up

Your order should arrive within 27-27 Days, Factors such as delayed logistics and customs clearings may have an impact on the delivery time.

Standard delivery seems to be via Singapore, should be slightly better than the usual slower China routes.

    • I find the AliExpress shipping via Singapore takes much longer. Double lot of customs as well.

      • +1

It took 5 months for my previous order to arrive if they went to stopover at Singapore. But I got the full refund and free item. Lol

    • Nice. Yours has been dispatched?
I ordered yesterday and paid extra for DHL.

  • +1

Does/can the Poco have the same miui launcher as redmi phones? Is it possible to uninstall the Poco launcher and just have 'stock' miui? I don't want the app draw as I like the iOS style of miui.

    • You can install whatever launcher you want on android. That's one of the features of the Operating System. I currently use ap15, I've previously used Evie and similar.

      • full screen gesture navigation might not work with certain custom launchers, not that its a huge problem but yeah

  • There is still 16 hrs to go and they have sold almost 52,000 unit

Xiaomi has cut out the middle men, so expect the price to be higher that USD$220 quoted above

  • +1

Ooft kinda regret not paying the extra for DHL shipping I thought they would have used ePacket for the default shipping option, but looks like it's Singapore post.. Gonna be a long wait for this phone lol.

    • Does DHL deliver via Australian Post? Looking for a ~$300 phone, this or wait till October?

      • IIRC DHL have there own there own courier drivers. The last phone that I ordered from China using DHL took 5 days to be delivered to Sydney, but that was back in 2018.

And this is probably the best ~$300 phone you can get.

  • Are there any recommended accessories from AliExpress for this?

Looking for case, potentially an adapter for the charger if it's EU plug and USB-C cables.

I was looking at this USB-C cable but I don't know if the charger has a USB-A port.
