i think your titles for the links need to be swapped

  • Crap just bought one a week ago to replace my 500gb 960 EVO boot drive…

  • +8

I'm pretty suprised no-one posted the 2TB 970 Evo Plus deal $525 with $89 Cashback taking it to $436

  • Any reason why I shouldn't invest in the 2tb 970evo?

    • +11

Yes, cause it'll make me jealous

    • +3

Maybe PCIE gen 4 drives around the corner.

      • don't go for them cas pcie gen 5 will be hot on the heals

        • Isn't 5nm ddr5 PCIe5 late 2021 though?

          • +7

@rupert3k: you're right … best to hold off for gen 6.

            • @blorx: haha look i love the banter, but I did ask for any reasons? So i appreciate it the ideas.
Was also curious if there was anything similar priced I should consider instead for 2tb.

            • @blorx: Reveal date is 28 October 2022. Release date is probably a month after. Good luck getting stock on launch date though. Might need to wait 2 or 3 months for stock to be able in Australia.

    • Samsung 980 Pro's are around the corner. PCIe gen 4

      • Sounds expensive?

      • Leaked specs of the 980 Pro is TLC which is a shame. Half endurance of present 970 Pro.

        • I saw that but NVMe drives are more about speed over endurance, thats the selling point anyway. :) 7GB/s PCIe 4 is killer

    • If you think an SSD is investment you're very much mistaken. :-)

      At best a depreciating asset.

TBH, the way the markets are going this week I think this is SSD is the best investment I've heard all week.

  • Has anybody had any issues claiming cashback from the previous promotion? I've never used one of these cashback promotions before.

    • +1

i had no issues - just took a while of waiting but that's normal

    • from the eofy promo bought 1tb on 20/07/2020 | promo ended 31/07/2020 | rcvd cashback 25/08/2020

    • Nope, was fairly easy last time I did it

    • Yeah I was refused cash back because an image didn't upload properly. They never emailed me back until after the cash back promo was over but claimed they had sent me an email letting me know and to reupload (they didn't).

They barely respond to emails and when they do it's the same response - sorry we didn't get required documents on time too bad.

    • Wouldn't take my serial number at first, but I contacted them about it which fixed it. Still awaiting to receive the cash back, despite confirming that they have everything. That was about three weeks ago now.

I just bought the Gigabyte Aorus 1TB last night for $291.70 after the party21 discount:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SSD-NVMe-M-2-Gen4-500GB-1TB-2TB-…

Almost $30 more but heatsink included and slightly faster performance….

    • With cash back $73 more, though yours is faster with heatsink too.

      • Actually the price was $275 (made a mistake was bundled with something else in the order) so I guess it's around $56 more but the Aurus is Gen4 /PCIE4.0 rather than Gen3! Not sure if the extra speed is worth the extra $$ but with many motherboards having the GPU near or close by the nvme slot I think protecting it with a heat sink is probably a good idea regardless of what drive you have..

        • +1

It also looks better too with that copper heatsink. Gen 4 tops it off.

        • Gigabyte Auros gen4 1tb is actually $275.51 with 'party21' code. I think is a better deal

    • $70 is a big difference for a speed difference 99% of users won't notice imo.

      • The A2000 1tb can be got for around $140, same as the 500gb 970.
Big price difference too wouldn't you say?
Do you think real world difference will be noticable?

  • Isn't Samsung selling 1TB SSDs for $179 with cashback? I saw the deal here this week.

edit: It's for 960 EVO. What does the 970 EVO have?

    • They're MVMEs not SSDs

      • +1

Whats the downvote for? Should I have explained SATA speeds vs M.2 or something?

        • +5

I didn't downvote you but you seem to be mixing some things up.

SATA and M.2 are connectors (the plug), these make no difference to your speeds.
SATA III and NVMe are protocols, these make a difference to the speed.
An SSD is just a drive that uses flash storage (these can use the SATA orM.2 connector and the SATA I/II/II or NVMe protocol - there are other lesser used connectors and protocols too).

So what you should've said is that they're SATA (3/III) drives not NVMe.

    • Also note it is the PLUS version i.e. EVO PLUS,.. love too know if the PLUS means anything over the standard EVO? As I own the 970 EVO 👍🤕 if there's any difference too upgrade from a 512gb EVO to the 1TB EVO PLUS apart from the size?

Edit:: Don't know i agree with some sounds like the
      1TB kingston A2000 Nvme
      Maybe a better deal 👍😃

      • The Evo Plus is just Evo on steroids. A bit faster read and write. Write is comparable to the PRO (before throttling), minus PRO’s longevity.

  • of course the 2TB the one that ive been looking at is out of stock… :L

  • Can someone tell a noob like me if this would be much of an improvement over the kingston A2000 on Nvme?

    • +2

      You wont notice any difference.

  • +1

Discounting like Turing, Linus did a video where nobody could discern between SATA & PCIe3/4.
Regardless feeding gpu straight from PCIe4 like PS5 is tempting though PCIe5 10'000gb/s looms late 2021.
    https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/samsung-980-pro-pcie-gen-4…

  • Not a bad deal shame my second M.2 port in my motherboard is only sata speeds so this surely will be sn over kill though can move this too my first M.2 spot which currently has a 500gb 970 Evo 😃👍

Is there a major difference between a,…
970 EVO and 970 EVO PLUS?

  • +1

Scorptec's price on the 2TB is 578/588 before the $89 cashback, making it $489 for a 2TB 970 EVO Plus after cashback.

  • great, i bought a 970 evo plus 1tb last week. just my luck i guess

    • can you get cash back for order placed last week?

      • Nope

  • The name of the seller is coming up as "Academic IT Market" in my PayPal confirmation email. Can anyone confirm that it is eligible for cashback?

    • +3

Don't worry. You will get an invoice, with the seller name "Kai Seng Computer Solution Pty Ltd" at the very top. Invoice comes after item is shipped.

    • Yeah I ordered an item from them the other day, came overnight, nothing but good experiences with Futu.

  • +1

The 2TB is now back in stock but they jacked up the price by a further $10 or $7.9 after discount. A bunch of crooks.

    • +1

Scorptec and mvave both cheaper $588/$585 = $499/$496 + postage

      • +1

How is it cheaper when Futu is $533.25 after ebay plus discount (or $446.35 after cashback)?

        • its not

        • the way OP wrote it implied that price was already inclusive of the cashback "$533.25 with $89 cashback " WITH, should have used PLUS

Nether less still need flebay plus

    • Oh is that why they jacked it up +$10

    • Good to offset the $10 price jack for the 2TB!

  • The invoice comes from:
Kai Seng Computer Solution Pty Ltd T/A
    A.B.N.: 83 095 108 777

Terms and conditions from Samsung are:
    K. S. COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
    A.B.N.: 59 074 527 763
KAI SENG AUSTRALIA HOLDING PTY LTD

Appears that the Trading Names and ABNs are different. Samsung hasn't opened the claim yet but the invoice and trading names appear different to Samsungs T&Cs:
    https://images.samsung.com/is/content/samsung/p5/au/offer/20…

    • +3

Also looks like Computer Alliance eBay has a better price on the 2TB 970 Evo Plus now at $528.30 plus $89 cashback using eBay code "PIP"

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2TB-Samsung-970-Evo-PLUS-M-2-PCI…

      • Good find! Not eligible for SB’s $10 cashback though :/

    • +1

They responded and confirmed that they are eligible (even though not listed correctly):

      Thanks for the email

We are under KS Computer Technology for the cashback and this one will be eligible

      • +1

We are not 100% sure as the one that approves the cashback is Samsung. If they declined then you are on your own. Having said that I have been successful getting cashback previously with a similar invoice showing the different ABN as yours.

        • Got Samsung cashback in the past from KS Computer Technology.
You can hold me to it.

          • @Springfield: I made separate purchases. The first one came with Kai Seng Computer Solution Pty Ltd T/A A.B.N.: 83 095 108 777 but the subsequent order came with the Samsung Cashback listed K. S. COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY 59 074 527 763.

So for those with the Kai Seng Computer Solution Pty Ltd T/A A.B.N.: 83 095 108 777 invoices, I suggest getting in touch with Futu to arrange a revised invoice with the correct trading name and ABN to prevent any issues claiming the relevant cashback from Samsung.

    • I didn't have a problem last time using K.S Computer for the claim

  • +2

Futu Online has lowered their prices to beat Computer Alliance

    • 500GB $137.72 ($114.72 after CB)
    • 1TB $259.12 ($213.12 after CB)
    • 2TB $526.14 ($437.14 after CB)
  • To buy or not to buy? I already have a 2TB 970 Evo (non Plus). Guys, talk me to it (or out of it)!!

    • then no need to upgrade

      • Not upgrading, just want an additional 2TB but yeah, I can wait for the 980 Pro 2TB 😁

    • +1

if you're not getting good use out of it, IMO you'd better off saving that money towards something you want later on. I say this as I'm cleaning out my trove of old IT stuff which spent most of its life in a cupboard.

I bought one since i need to backup my daily work SSDs, cant be fked booting up the mechanical HDD weekly for backups

      • Your honest opinion really hits home. I have more than enough spinning hard drives, SATA SSDs that I need. I guess my impulse to buy this SSD has more to do with buying sake, don’t want to miss a bargain or perhaps wanting to buy a drive that is a bit faster than the one I own. Since coming to OzB a few years ago, I keep buying stuff that I don’t really need.

Re old IT stuff: I also have quite a lot untouched. Like unopened FireWire hubs, PC Cards, HDDs.

    • +1

Just NO, dont need to upgrade as you won’t see any difference from the Evo and non Evo drive.

  • God damn I bought 3 at the previous price before they dropped it below Computer Alliance…

  • +1

Anyone bought from Futu online? I bought 500Gb 970Evo Plus which is in the cash back Participating products. From my search, looks like Futu is the same with K.S computer technology. When I bought from Futu, on eBay it of course it sags from Futu Online seller, but in Paypal it says Academic IT Market on the receipt. So is it still eligible for cash back claim or what? I sent Futu online message but they haven’t replied anything back.

    • +1

They will send you an invoice in a separately email and the invoice will state Kai Seng Computer Solution Pty Ltd T/A.
The ABN might be different to the one listed on the Samsung website but others and I had no problems claiming cashback in previous cash back offers holding similar invoices.

      • You know long it takes for them to send the invoice? My ssd got shipped already and so far no additional emails from them except from the ebay default and paypal ones.

        • +1

They should send the invoice within 1-2 days after dispatch. Sometimes the invoice will slip through to the junk mail inbox. Check your junk mail to see if it is already there.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Still nothing yet, I emailed futu already, lets see what they do. Is there a hard copy invoice coming with the ssd as well when you got the item delivered?

            • @Long Nguyen: I don’t recall receive a hard copy of the invoice with the item. Wait for their reply. Did they send you a dispatch email to tell you the item has shipped? Or you know it has been shipped from eBay notification?

The invoice is in the dispatch notice email from Futu.

              • @FrugalNotStingy: No I haven’t got any dispatch email from them yet. Actually I only received the Confirmed email from ebay. So might have to wait a little longer.

                • +1

@Long Nguyen: So it’s not yet shipped? They probably have had hundreds of sales in the past week due to the ebay plus sale. This Samsung EVO ssd alone would’ve made a hundred sales. Just give it some time.

                  • @FrugalNotStingy: Yeah it was weird, it wasn’t marked as shipped yet but they already provide tracking number. In fact, I just received ebay update only this morning that it was Shipper. So I basically had the tracking number before the order was marked as Posted. But I totally understand what you meant, must be very busy for them for a few recent days, so now that they have updated the item as Posted maybe things will start moving. Let’s see what they send me in a few days.

I kinda regret buying from them a little though, Computer Alliance didn’t have the promo but their price and 10% plus with the cash back worked out cheaper ($111 vs $116) compare to Futu. Also, their business name is consistent from Ebay, Paypal and Samsung Participating Seller list. Guess I have to do more research before pulling the trigger next time. It’s not really about money at this point though (only $5 different) but I feel a but weird about how Futu has their Names mixed up, and also jack up the price for promo.

        • +2

Same to me. no email, no tax invoice. Sent them couple messages, while no response at all.

          • @louchu: When did you buy it? I made the purchase on the 10/9 and item only marks as Shipped as of today 15/9. Still nothing about the invoice though.

            • +1

@Long Nguyen: I bought on 11/9. Just noticed it is marked as shipped today. They might be busy with large amount of orders, might give them a little bit more time.

              • @louchu: Let’s hope it is just like that. If they don’t reply me within this week, I might do something because it is technically “not as described”….

              • @louchu: Literally got the message from them just mow:

New message from: futu_online Top Rated Seller(258,172RedShooting Star)
                Hi,

Thanks for your message. Tax invoice will be emailed to you in the next 2-3 business days

Please check your spam folder if you have not received it in your inbox

                Sorry for the delays.

                Cheers,
                Steven.

                So there is that.

                • +1

@Long Nguyen: Also received the same generic email, but invoice for the SSD arrived shortly after.

                  • @RichardL: Yep, I got my invoice in the mail just now. All left to do is lodging the claim on Samsung site.

  • +1

I received my 1TB yesterday, no invoice in the box, none emailed either and not in junk.

Have sent a ebay message yesterday asking for one, so far no response.

    • Wait…when did you buy it? The promo started on 10/9 right? And you received your item already? Are you in NSW because that is very fast shipping?
