Samsung T7 Touch Portable SSD 1TB $199 + Click Collect @ Bing Lee eBay ($189.05 Officeworks Price Beat)

1570

NOTE: Few are still available at their ebay store https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-1TB-T7-Touch-Portable-SS… but there may be postage cost for all states.

I'm a newbie to OzBargain and would like to share this deal that I found on the Bing Lee website. Looks like the best price for a T7 1TB SSD. $69 price drop on the 1TB from the previous deal.

Price Beat at Officeworks for $189.05. (I suggest doing this by ringing/going to your local store as the Help Centre lines are closed over the weekend and Bing Lee will probably be out of stock by Monday.)

Great price. Having recently bought the $99 500gig ones can't justify more. But very happy with it.

Ps. You should edit the title to say it's for the Touch model which is more expensive.

    • edited the title now, thanks for the feedback.

  • I bought one today and thought i would share it with you guys and don't keep it with myself , Enjoy!

  • $6 postage to me in WA

    • +1

I am not sure about it, I ordered 1 today to Melbourne and It was free delivery to me… sorry to hear there is postage for WA.

    • Thanks, added to title and the description.

    • how do you match? ring them up?

      • +3

Yep, can just give them a call on 1300 OFFICE (633 423) and match over the phone.

        • They don’t work on weekends.

          • @RCB: Unless they've changed it recently, they have always worked on Saturdays when I've tried..?

            • +2

@doweyy: I tried too and they are closed. Only Mon to Fri now.
So if you want one, best get it now from Bing Lee. Won't last more than a day, if that.

              • @pencilman: Ahh damn didn't realise sorry, guess people could still try in store but maybe not worth it..

        • they're closed during weekend… :(

        • This will probably be out of stock by Monday

Thanks op. Great price. Bought one

Ah, so you will never get it then.

Just a heads up on those wondering how well the touch security works.

So far for me it's been excellent.
Need to install the Samsung software to set up. After that the software is not required unless you want to change the password or fingerprint, or want to update the firmware.

Plug it in any PC or Mac, or even iPad or Android phone, touch the sensor, and then your hidden folders are shown.
No software install or drivers required.

    • install the samsung software on every computer in order to use it ? or just the initial setup?

      • +2

This is the key, ONLY needed for initial setup.
I used an old computer for setup as I don't want unnecessary drivers etc in my main machine.

      • Just initial setup

          • @tadasu: They have changed the listing to in-store pickup only regardless if you have ebay plus or not.

    What a first post OP

    • Thanks Jayboi, much appreciated.

  • +1

Wow, what a stunning first post! Thanks OP!

  • +1

    insane price thanks OP!

  • I don’t get why I need one or want one. But OzB.

    • +1

      …aaaaand bought. Great find OP.

      • i think we all need one, good decision

  • Very tempting and a great price, but probably going to buy two Kingston A2000 500gb NVMes, and two enclosures for just over $200.

    • Links?

      • $84 for 500gb, hoping for it to drop to about $80

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/562698

$39 for an enclosure, but I'm sure there's cheaper ones out there on Aliexpress or a deal

        https://www.amazon.com.au/Enclosure-Thunderbolt-Compatible-A…

        • Even that adds up to $248 right now and gives you two enclosures. I like your thinking but reckon this is better for the money.

          • +1

@cc23: Yeah if the $99 for 500gb Samsung came back I'd jump on it for sure.

The enclosures are the killing point currently, but they're bound to drop in price. Not like we're travelling a whole bunch right now so I can wait around for a bit longer.

I've got bad luck with WD and Seagate portable HDDs dying on me, so unsure how I feel about the Samsung being a paperweight down the line (with an enclosure / NVMe, if one of them died I could use the other one still).

    • I am also looking at similar setup.

enclosures are bit cheaper at aliexpress.

    • +1

I am sure the heat dissipation of NVME drives by these enclosures won’t match the Samsung T7.

  • whys the black one more expensive :v

    • +9

      because #blackPortableSSDsMatter

    • +1

Have to say the Silver colour is a very nice aluminium.
Matches the look and feel of a Macbook pro.
Blue LED on the finderprint sensor also very nice.

  • +1

Went to OW they only have black most of them, wil just get it from bing lee

  • Don’t understand how this still has stock.

    • they still have 180+ on their eBay store

  • +1

Just less than 3 months ago, $299 was the on sale price.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/546915

Who can share us the Samsung wholesale price?

  • Mines still in sydney from 10 days ago

  • +3

I bought one at almost time for $299 and I was feeling like….I really steal the deal !! 😂. Bought my 4th t7 today with this 😒 though my previous 3 t7s are still unused.

    • Why are you hoarding T7s? I wonder how many T5 you’ve got ;)

      • Frankly I don’t know 😜…maybe I should see some experts who could correct my spending habits ..as I am finding hard to leave OZB 😣

  • +1

Tbh bought one so I can keep up with the bloody COD updates

  • +3

If the touch is as good as S10, then it is highjly secured. No one can open it, even the owner.

    • Ha ha. I see what you did there.
The fingerprint unlock on the T7 touch is very responsive, almost too responsive. Makes me wonder how secure it really is.

Certainly enough to keep away prying eyes, but best not to keep government secrets on it without additional encryption.

      • +1

Certainly enough to keep away prying eyes, but best not to keep government secrets on it

        Thumbs/fingers aren't very secure, they're easily removable.

        • Or replicable.

  • strategically? out of stock in Officeworks 😔

  • How long is the cable?

    • 50cm

      • Thanks, that's a bit decent. Hate drives with ridiculously short cables

  • I guess its out of stock now? unavailable for order online - need to contact store for availability

  • Will the Fingerprint/Touch security effect this Drive being used on TV as portable Video drive?
Especially if TV is a few years old?

    • +2

You can choose to not use the touch security feature. In that case it should work fine.

  • Ahh damn just missed it!

  • +1

    Saved $199…
Will wait for the 2TB to go on sales..!!

    • +1

Waiting for the 2TB to drop in price but in the meantime, I will play with this 1TB!!

  • Thanks. Ordered one from their eBay store though it's above my budget for SSD.

  • Made an order through the Bing Lee website, cashrewards tracked + charge is showing on my credit card but I didn't receive any confirmation email from Bing Lee. Anyone else?
Edit: disregard, found it in my junk

  • NOTE: Few are still available at their ebay stroe, https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-1TB-T7-Touch-Portable-SS…

    • Only click and collect avaliable

      • Ya I can't seem to choose any other options (I live in Adelaide). Will go to OW tomorrow and hopefully they will still price match…

  • So is the price drop with these due to NVME becoming the next thing in portable drives as it has in PCs?

    • Depends what USB interface you're using. Nvme could go up to 2GB/s but you would need USB 3.2 gen2x2 interface for that.

  • Just grabbed one. I can’t be bothered with Officeworks since they are out of stock.
It retails for $359 on Samsung website.
    For $199, can’t go wrong.
    Thank you OP.

  • Good deal, I paid $150 for the 500GB a few weeks back.

  • what's the difference between T5, T6, T7?

    • +1

      YouTube?

      • YouTube on T7 is snappier than on the T5.

  • Seems pretty gimmicky and unnecessary, what are people storing on these that they think require this type of security?

    • Peace of mind if you left it at the coffee shop. Anything from a bank statement, resume, scanned photo of your passport or driver's licence, invoice to a customer, I would be very uncomfortable losing.

    • Not gimmicky at all. You can expose an enormous amount of personal information accidentally. In the wrong hands, this can be terrible.

And this is 1 terabyte of data! Thicker and slightly bigger than a credit card.

If I'm going to carry it outside the house, finger print security is much needed.

  • Not a bad deal considering I paid $328 for the Samsung T5 2TB storage model end of last year (from Bing Lee eBay).

  • +1

I am not sure if many of you are aware, the hardware based encryption is probably also broken on this model.
    See link here: https://securityboulevard.com/2018/11/researchers-crack-disk…

  • Does anybody know the difference between two identical Touch T7 1gb models but $60 difference in the same BL's catalogue? All I can see is an 'S' and 'K' in the model codes.

  • anyone who ordered on Ebay have their orders shipped? still no update on my end
