UPDATE: From JB:

Pre-orders are temporarily suspended
Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve had to hit pause on taking any more pre-orders. Don't worry, as soon as we have more visibility on stock availability we will re-open pre-orders.

JB's pre-order page has just gone live. They're taking $50 deposits for pre-orders and say they'll SMS links to pay remaining balance and choose delivery options 'closer to release day'.

$749 regular, $599 Digital Edition. Worth noting that JB does not guarantee you'll actually get one on launch day:

About your pre-order
Your console pre-order will be placed in our priority queue. Closer to release day, we’ll SMS you a link to pay the remaining balance and choose the delivery option.

Important things to note:

• Due to stock demand your pre-order does not guarantee availability on the day of release (or a specific date).
• If you want to cancel your pre-order, we'll process a full refund and you will lose your place in the priority queue.
• If your contact details change after you pre-order, please let us know, or you will not have an opportunity to complete your order

    • Sony's sold out too, also i've placed my order when it wasn't sold out yet and:

      1) it was never confirmed, so i don't know if it ever went through
      2) wasn't cancelled either, so i missed out on ordering from big w whilst it was still available

Did anyone else have this issue?

huge mess, worst fiasco ever, can't believe sony let us down that bad

  • Damn, got about $600 worth of Ultimate Home cards that include JB, but these can't be used online

    • If all else fails, go in-store and pre-order any games/accessories you want. Maybe they will allow you to add to the PS5 pre-order as well.

      • I added $50 pre order at the store. But receipt says as above. SMS before release date to pay and delivery options. Hopefully can pay with my Telstra bonus gift cards

      • That's the plan. I'm in Melbourne so hopefully the stores will be open on October 26…

  • Limited number of games atm..I think I'll wait a bit

    • +2

Still can play most ps4 games

    • See new deal, 18 free games with ps plus on ps5. sweet as.

  • +3

I wish JB would confirm if you got one for launch or not. I pre ordered when it went live but I’d like a confirmation guaranteeing me that I got in the first launch shipment

How hard would it be to do that?

    • Yeah, this'd be nice. I got my order in as soon as it went up, but I don't like the idea that I'll end up missing out.

Also worried that they might not accept gift cards for paying the remaining balance, too. I would have just gone with EB Games but I have hundreds in JB gift cards I want to spend on this and I don't know how it's going to work.

      • +1

Yer I don’t mind the statement but at least send a email through saying we got one or not when they sell out of the pre order

        • +1

Having an email telling me my position in the queue would be helpful IMO

  • +1

Curious why so many people seem keen to jump on this at RRP so fast. Most of Sony's launch 'exclusives' are also coming to PS4 (Spider-Man MM, Horizon FW, Hogwarts and Sackboy all confirmed for current gen), so no need to dash into an upgrade at $750 unless you're really keen for that extra frame rate and resolution.

    • +3

"can't wait any longer" group of people who might've saved up money in anticipation of a new console and don't currently have any consoles or a graphics card to play on.

      • +1

It is also the faster load times - I know I want to play Cyberpunk on a system that can load the game in a decent time (at least I hope it does)

    • +2

I think the EB trade in deal makes it more enticing. One other reason is PS4 Pro can be quite noisy when playing games.

      • The trade deals are actually pretty good, I was surprised EB is offering such decent value, especially if you have a Level 4 EB World card.

    • +3

New-generation consoles don't really drop in price for the first year or two, and I'm excited to play Demon's Souls day one. Plus I sold my PS4 a few months ago, so I'm all in, chaps :P

      • +2

Not sure that's true. PS4 launched at $550 and within 6 months I was able to pick one up for $400. Plus there's always the inevitable bundles with big games. That's great you're pumped for it though, I'm sure it'll be awesome on a decent TV.

        • +1

Yeah, you might be right. I was just thinking about official price drops, but the enterprising Ozbargainer can always find something :P

    • +2

I was Xbox last gen, and haven't been able to play any of the PS4 exclusives i wanted to, but buying a PS4 at the moment seems nonsensical, so i am primarily buying a PS5 so i can play through the PS4 games i hadn't played, then PS5 games when they come out.

      • Definitely if you haven't had either system this gen then that backwards compatibility will be well worth the purchase. I always get all 3 systems by the end of a console generation so I guess it's just not worth it for me until there are some actual exclusive games for these new consoles.

        • +1

Yeah I can see the lack of immediate appeal if you already have all the consoles. I was planning to go PS4 shortly after the pro came out as it was becoming clear that the Xbox games lineup was not improving, but then ended up moving overseas for a while so my Switch became my main console.

    • Sackboy yay

    • +3

launch day hype will never die - its half the fun :)

    • +1

Consider that every game you currently play on ps4 pro will load up to 50 times faster on the PS5, and not sound like a plane taking off.

      • The tech is great, I'm just not sure it's worth $400-$750 to upgrade for those convenience features alone. I'll probably hold off until the first big exclusive only coming to next gen consoles, or wait for the inevitable slim version so the thing will actually fit in my home entertainment unit, haha.

        • I got the amazon deal, so will end up costing me $300ish max after I sell my PS4 pro.

          • @onlinepred: How much are you getting for selling Ps4 Pro.

            • @BuyOrNot: Hoping around $350 mark. I have 4 controllers, controller rack too which I'll sell seperately. Will have to see what others are going for when I sell it. May end up being more like $300-$350 cost after I sold everything I guess.

              • @onlinepred: I just took a quick look at FB marketplace, I see prices around 450 to 500 not sure if the console is actually selling at that price or not.

                • @BuyOrNot: I won't be selling till after I get the ps5, I think you can buy new for 450ish?

    • +7

All comes down to the person. I always buy launch day tech. As a hobbyist, it's fun to have the latest and greatest the day it releases. The money aspect has no weight to people like me. Also, games will always be coming. I've never understood "but it has no games" as a reason to avoid buying a console in its early life. Buying early just means you'll be getting the best experience possible as early as possible. Nothing against people who aren't like me, but I'm happy being me and don't ever feel like I've "wasted" money or whatever.

      • +1

I don't get it either like games are gonna come out and you'll buy it anyway…you'll be lucky if the price drops down by $50 by then. If you can afford to get something now rather than later why not now lol

        • +1

I don't think that's true; consoles prices never stay above $550 for very long. PS3 launched costing $1000 and spent most of its life at more like $500 or cheaper, Xbox One launched at $599 and was down to $299 with a 4K blu ray drive added within 2 years, PS4 launched at $599 and was down to $450 at most places within the first year. If you have the money and enjoy it then go for it, but waiting till the end of that first year or so means you get to enjoy the console at a cheaper price, often with added features, and a bunch of great games already available.

          • +1

@mr_me450: Yeah I understand your point, just upto the person really and what they want to play in the next 6 months. I for one can't wait to play cyberpunk on a ps5 over my PS4 but each to their own! And also I'm trading in my old gear so the sooner I do that, the more value it gets me back

      • For sure, if money is not issue and you enjoy it then why not. I guess I prefer to wait until at least the first big exclusive game, so for PS5 that will probably be the new God of War around Christmas 2021.

  • -1

I'm in an interesting situation.. I've just built a pretty nice gaming rig a couple of months ago but ended up selling my RTX 2080 Super before Ampere released for $1350.

Not sure If I should continue running my 1650 Super and buying a PS5 or selling my 1650 Super and getting the new Nvidia 3000 series.
The cards willl be at least 2x the price of a PS5 when they're released tonight.. Ugh..

    • I'm running a 1660ti and will have a PS4.
Best of both worlds imo, most good Xbox games seems like they will be on PC

    • I don't get why this is even a hard question for you…

Are there ps5 exclusives you want to play? Yes? Get a ps5

Do you care about 4k 60fps graphics? No? Get a midrange card with a ps5

  • Feels a bit dodgy with their cop out, but given they will treat it as a priority queue, hopefully those who got in preorder on the first day will get it on launch

  • i'll wait for PS4 Pro-PS5 swap deal .. happy to wait a few months to see how ppl find the PS5.

  • Missed out on the ebgames deal, pre ordered from JB, thanks OP!

  • +3

Is there any retailer which accepts a PS4 trade-in (Not Slim or Pro I mean)?

    • +2

EB should still accept it, you'll just get less for it.

    • +2

      $220 plus your tier bonus.

      But pre orders sold out

      • But it'll get you almost 2 whole games at EB!

    • +1

Was told over phone normal ps4 or limited editions are only $160-200.

  • -3

What will the regular price be if this is the bargain?

    • have a coffee mate and come back

    • A 'good' PC graphics card that might not last as long as a console system already costs at least AU$600. I hope you also think a gaming PC/system is not cheap.

  • -2

A true OzB would wait for $150 PS4 on GumTree / FB

  • Anyway to cancel this and get money back? Or just forfeit the $50 and buy directly from Sony? Want to guarantee first day delivery

    • +3

JB has an online form for cancelling orders. Might take them a couple of days to process a refund, though.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/contact-us

      • Amazing! Thank you

    • +1

Im sure you can cancel it, just ring up their customer support.

    • +1

JB HiFi website states you can cancel at any time and get a full refund on your pre order.

  • +1

Hmm, waiting for Amazon to put up their pre-order. I find they have the fastest post and being in VIC there's a chance pickup won't be an option

    Do they usually do pre-orders?

    • Yes they do. I got my pre-ordered PS4 from Amazon US, 4 days before the AU one was released

    • Yup, and usually they will have some on release day (or they did for the PS4 in the US)

      • Seems to just be the disc version on there for now, I'm wanting digital only

    • I've pre-ordered several titles from Amazon and they have never arrived on release day. Two have arrived almost a week later.

      • Yeah I've never had a release date delivery from Amazon in WA, even with Prime. Always worth pestering customer service when this happens, though, they'll quite often give you a $10 credit to make up for it.

  • +2

825GB? That's like 3 Call of Duty games!

  • mine wont come out of the cart

keeps saying "This item is not available with this shipping option" on all shipping options

    • I got past that by picking Delivery, and it changed to Digital Delivery. Then I got "2000 - Do not honor" at the payment step. Have just preordered with amazon instead.

      • Yeah i got annoyed and ordered with Amazon too!

  • +2

These posts are starting to get annoying how is this a deal?

    • +3

Yeah how is RRP a deal? Atleast Amazon offers $30 Credit + 50 If you use Zip. Delivered.

  • Paid the deposit at JB at 10AM - what do you reckon my chances are of getting it on release date?

    • +1

Hard to guess at this point. Hopefully all of us who got in this morning are locked in for day one, but I've never seen this method of pre-ordering from JB before so I have no idea.

I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if they sell out today. At least that should nail down whether they're only selling their launch allocation or if they're just taking as many orders as they can.

      • +1

Cheers :) First console ever and I'm excited (especially because I'll be paying for it myself)

        • +1

spending your own hard earned money sure is satisfying i know :p congratz

  • +2

RRP is not a deal. There are already better deals for preorder listed here on OzBargain. But if you have some discounted cards or something, it could be worth it for you but not for me.

  • I ordered like an hour ago and still haven't received a confirmation email yet…..

    • Yeah me too. I'm contemplating pre ordering from amazon

  • +1

    Not really a deal.

  • +1

RRP and no bonuses like Amazon's deal

  • +2

This is not a bargain, it is RRP. At least Amazon has $30 credit offer.

    • Inappropriate use of the neg.

      • +2

Not really, it's $30 cheaper at Amazon for prime members, $80 cheaper if you use Zip. Last time I checked an item being cheaper elsewhere is a valid neg.

      • +2

If you think that’s true then report my comment.

        • Geez aren't you fun at party?

That Amazon deal with $30 credit posted out right after this deal. The neg was unwarranted for. Just saying.

          • +2

@Yummy: If you think the neg was unwarranted then down vote it. Your comments are borderline spam, you have tools at your disposal to achieve what you want.

            • @sween64: I dont need to counter with a vote as that is not what it used for. Plus I dont go Karen mode just to report your (silly?) post.

And also in reference of my first reply to you. Its basically a joke from that thread.

You need to loosen your marbles a bit. :P

              • @Yummy: Well I didn’t read the that thread so I had no idea about the joke.

Also you can report comments that are a “invalid negative vote” basically no reason given. Link

And if the community disagrees with a negative deal vote then it can be downvoted Link

                • @sween64: Good to know thx.

Now what am I gonna do with 2nd unit. Hmm

  • Pre-orders are temporarily suspended
Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve had to hit pause on taking any more pre-orders. Don't worry, as soon as we have more visibility on stock availability we will re-open pre-orders.

Not sure when this was updated.

    • +2

Must have been in the last few minutes.

Hopefully that means everyone who got in early is locked in for the launch shipment, but who knows at this point.

  • Did anyone get confirmation on their pre-order?

    • +1

Nope, ordered at around 10AM and it still shows up as "Processing Payment"

Update: Has now changed to "Processing Order" + received email

    • +2

I've got the usual order confirmation e-mail from JB. Order status is 'Processing Order' in my purchase history on the website.

    • +1

I finally got mine too. Hopefully this means we're in for the launch batch

      • Nice :)

        Fingers crossed.

    • Yup… "Procesing Order" + email.

My EB order for a friend also went through. :)

  • -5

Really hate the design. Just by that, I'll go for xbox series x all day long.

    • Valid point - but even if it was shaped like a block of cheese, I'd still get it for the exclusives.
