This is 9th Gen but still a good deal for XPS 15" I think. Also this is FHD screen for better battery life.

Terrible products and even worse customer service I would not buy dell again.

Sorry to inform you but unless you get an apple pc you won’t get a better customer service

I've had excellent support with Dell. Next day on-site. I hadn't paid any extra for this service and the tech once even helped me install a 3rd party ssd. You won't get that with Apple!

    • +2

I was concerned with all the negative comments, but then I figured not everyone with positive experiences will post about them. So took the plunge.

      • I had issues with my 9360 around 2-3 years ago. The headphone port stopped working.

Dell sent a tech to my work and they replaced the mobo on site. It didn't cost me a cent.

Very happy customer here. My 9360 is now around 3.5 years old, I've upgraded the WiFi card and the SSD, and it's still running great.

Is it a better buy than 17" G7 which was for $2000?

    • The G7 on sale on eBay features current gen (soon to be replaced) CPU and 2020 model design. This, on the other hand, is last gen CPU with last year’s design. This only good thing about it is that it looks sleeker and maybe with a better screen.

      • +2

sleeker, significantly superior screen, better battery life. Very different laptops and really depends on what you're wanting it for.

  • +2

This isn't only just 9th gen CPU it's a previous gen XPS 15 chassis which has been out for years. There is a all new model out in addition to the 10th gen CPU.

    • Would not say has been out for years.. was released in May 2019.

Current gen XPS (New XPS 15") you will pay a material premium for it.

EDIT: List price for current gen New XPS 15" with similar specs = $3,698.99

      • +2

He said the chassis has been out for years which is correct - It was released in 2016.

        • Ah right ok, fair enough.

But again, price difference vs current gen is quite crazy.

  • +1

Cheaper to buy the 8GB RAM model ($1882) and slap 2x 8GB to replace the existing 2x 4GB

    • True, except I have no idea how to do this :( so jumped on this deal.

      • +4

YouTube, 1 minute video, 12 screws, unclip the RAM out, pop the new one in, screw it back up. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes and you saved yourself more than $100

        • +1

Will keep it mind for another time :)

      • +1

        It's really easy.
        1. Buy 2x 8GB DRR4 2666Mhz Sodimm sticks of ram
        2. Unscrew the bottom panel of the laptop.
        3. Remove the older sticks of RAM and replace with new one
        4. Put the bottom panel back on
Youtube will show exact details but there's nothing complicated about it.

Just be aware that this model has thermal throttling as it does overheat… Dell have given me two brand new replacement on this due to this issue… I should have just gotten a refund but the OLED version is to nice

    • Thanks for the heads up. How were you able to prove this, it will be good for me to know just in case I run into this issue as well and try and get Dell to honour warranty.

    • Do you have the i7 or i9 version? I have the i7 with oled and havn't ran into any overheating issues. Although i don't know what your use case is, mine doesn't get a lot of hard work but i throw the occasional adobe premiere project at it which it flys through without issue

      • Common issue amongst 7590 range. Google

I do some heavy video and audio so it does factor a roll.. OLED was purchased primarily for video..

I just ended up replacing thermal paste and heatsinks but still throttling occurred.

        • Again you didnt answer my question, i7 or i9? i9 has known issues with heavy throttling, i wouldn't go near it. I don't have the issue with overheating whilst video editing on my i7. Sure it throttles but even my AMD 2700x desktop throttles (does not generally dip below 2.5ghz), that doesn't bother me as this laptop completes exports in roughly the same time as my desktop. heres my cpu usage while premiere exporting in 4k with multiple warp stabilizations https://vimeo.com/457618744

  • This isnt a great deal to be honest. There have been better recently on the same model - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/556142
I purchased on that deal but got the upgraded version - 32gb ram, 1tb, OLED screen for $2178
For the record i have no issues with it overheating, fantastic unit, and that screen - wow!

    • I was intent on buying the FHD version, and from what I can see on OZB, this laptop with FHD screen, i7, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD, this is the cheapest price.

      • The oled 4k is such a step up though and has been cheaper than this, better specs cheaper price. That's all i was pointing out. If this fits your needs then go for it

    • thanks for pointing this out. might hold off as im not in a rush. cheers mate.

  • Dell ebay deal was better for $1958 with UHD
Shame above code can’t be applied for UHD model
Dell are never worth their RRP
My experience has been great with them other than slow delivery time

    • +1

yeah you really want the UHD Oled on this model. I got that model a couple of months ago from a OzB deal through dell ebay, mine had a delivery time frame of over a month, came in less than a week, i was stoked

      • You are one of lucky one :p

One of my mate is hoping to get it by end of this week .. delivery says 21st of October

      • i got that too but refunded it. It was disappointing that such a nice screen doesn't support HDR mode unless it's streaming.

    • Both can be applied for the UHD model actually..! Comes out to $2161.54, though.

  • Yo help me out. Is this worth it? I still use the 2012 macbook pro I bought when I started high school and have 0 knowledge about technology. I need a laptop for uni and league which is pretty much the only game I play.
