Flashlube Fuel Injector Cleaner 50ml $2.70 @ Supercheap Auto

30

Flashlube Fuel Injector Cleaner. This product 'allegedly':
-Cleans Injectors & fuel systems
-Improves fuel economy
-Lubricates Injectors, pumps & upper cylinder area
-Provides exceptional lubricity for low sulphur fuel
-Improves performance
-Improves hard starting
-Reduces harmful emissions
-Extends engine life
-Protects against corrosion
-Smoother running engine
Not sure about all that but I had a look at the data sheet
https://www.flashlube.com/images/stories/pdfs/MSDS-INJECTOR-… (pdf) and it contains hydrocarbons and a dose of Naphtha, so at the very least it should give a performance boost while its in your tank.
Reviews seem good, if they are real. Is it useful or is it baloney?
I don't know but it sold for up to $16.95 at some other car places previously (although seems to be being generally discounted now) EG $3.49 at Autobarn

Waste of money tbh best to just replace the fuel filter

not all cars have replaceable fuel filters

ALL cars have replaceable fuel filters, it's just that some are a part of another part eg. fuel pump. Probably the correct thing to say would be, not all cars have separate replaceable fuel filters :) .

  • The 300ml ones seem like better value for money

  • Seems like snake oil….

Just change fuel filter and from time to time use BP 98 or similar as there's some detergents in those fuels which can help the fuel system.

    • I don't now that the additives in 98 fuel can do much for deposits on your injectors. It may well clean the tank and lines but hey, I am not certain this stuff does either lol

High octane fuels no good for older or/and low compression engines.

Do you have a snakeoil.com source for your snake oil alternatives to snake oil?

  • I use this type of injector cleaning product a couple of times a year when it's available on special and while I haven't noticed any improvement in fuel economy or vehicle performance it hasn't done any harm either.

The guy who started this company is ex CSIRO.

I'm sure someone else more mechanically inclined can chime in but best to use one that has a decent amount of PEA, most of the others are basically snake oil.

If your injectors are clogged then get them professionally cleaned (removed and ultrasonic cleaning) not as expensive as it sounds.

  • If you want to waste your money go ahead. Seriously if you are really interested in all of the claims of this product, just run your tank low, put in about 20-30 litres of BP98, shell V-Power 98 etc and you get all of what is listed for this product for less cost (91RON - 98RON cost difference ~15c/L), including a saved trip to Supercheap.

This stuff treats 50L for $2.70, that’s far cheaper than the total price difference of 91 vs 98.

    • i used to use liqui moly fuel cleaner on my sh!tbox 96 corolla, even tho im using 98 with fuel filter change yearly i can still notice the different, i have to go up same hill everyday and theres traffic light on the bottle of the hill so pretty much i start from stand still from the bottom of the hill

I don't know about this product, but the classic Flash Lube upper cylinder head lube in an under-bonnet dispenser bottle certainly works on old LPG Falcons. Your mileage may vary…

  • i recently used a similar product on my 20 year old suzuki and got 10% better fuel efficiency out of it the month I used it. I've always used regular fuel.

For anyone interested, I used two bottles of injector cleaner (Valvoline plus that other one that is popular on ozbargain for about $5- can remember the name).
This was done across maybe 5000km.
Pulled my injectors the other day and they looked like this:

So the cleaner didn't do anything.

I since mechanically cleaned the tips with a rag and intake cleaner and the car runs better.

Just going to say my car would have loss of power when first started just when pulling away it would shudder a bit. BMW replaced a sensor at $900 and made no difference. I just lived with it for a year after as just gave it a bit more revs and slowly pulled away when first started once the car was going 30 seconds later, no problem at all.
Tried this a few years ago and overnight this problem stopped, had a few treatments over the years now and then but highly recommend and this stuff DOES do something in certain circumstances.
