Chromecast with Google TV & 6 Months of Netflix ($95.94 Worth of Credit) for $139.99 @ Google Store

5040

Google just announced the Chromecast with Google TV for $99, but a little less known is a deal that allows you to tack on 6 months of Netflix ($95.94 worth of credit) for a grand total of $139.99, bringing the effective price of the Chromecast to $44.05.

Seems to be a long-running deal (through to December 31, 2021).

Tips:

  • If you're a Google One subscriber, you'll get 3% back in store credit if you're on a 200 GB plan, or 10% back in store credit if you're on a 2 TB or higher plan.
  • You can purchase three of these bundles per Google account.
  • The deal is available to both new and existing Netflix subscribers.
  • The 6 months of Netflix offer is based on a Standard plan ($15.99/month). Netflix works off a dollar-based credit model, so if you're on a Basic plan ($10.99/month), you'll actually get 8.73 months worth of credit, but if you're on a Premium plan ($19.99/month), you'll get 4.80 months worth of credit.
  • If you've redeemed the Netflix offer, but end up returning the Chromecast, Google will refund you $99; meaning you'll still have scored $95.94 worth of Netflix credit for $40.99.

Note: Previously out of stock, and now back in stock! If it goes out of stock again, keep refreshing the page as Google has progressively added stock on previous occasions.

        Someone care to PM?

      • As in someone just confirmed whether it would or would not work, and had that comment removed by admins..?

    • -2

You'll all happily downvote me whilst remaining anonymous, but none of you are willing to put your name to defending the indefensible actions of Netflix. Disgusting.

      • +1

And tell me what you do beside complaining on a totally non related topic. I do hope calling out others who might just don't have the same focus in life with you makes you sleep better at night. That should really bring people to root for you mate (not). Myself along with other would never condone such act (if netflix in fact does what you claim it does) but I don't agree with your aggressive approach either. This calling out culture is one of the things that make the world sucks. I dont expect you to change at all, just do what you need to do but yeah i said it.

  • Thanks, OP. Was waiting for it to be available again.

  • Excellent. Have also being monitoring this and yeap, back in stock all colours.

A $55 savings is just 'ok'?

      • -1

$9 saving a month over six months vs $140 out of pocket today? You won't even notice you've saved anything. That's assuming you don't already have Chromecast and you want one.

        • That's kind of like saying, its poinrless to use CashRewards or Shopback. One only builds $$ over time.
Now in a few years I have accumulated over $1000. That's 1K in my pocket that I would not have had, just as $55 is another $55 in my pocket.
Luckily for me in this instance. I just add the Credit to friends account and he gives me the $$. In turn an instant savings of $46 Chromecast and better than spending $99.

          • @Borg: It's not like saying that. It's saying that you are out of pocket today by an extra $40, but each month your outgoings are $15 less. Personally, I'd rather have cash in the bank today vs a six month saving, but each to their own.

As I said, I have a Chromecast, so I can't justify paying for this. Different for others.

        • I think getting the chromecast with google store credit is much better choice if you didn’t use Netflix.

          • @spedohero: That's true hence this deal is pointed at those who have or are planning using Netflix (& in the Market for the device) OR for those that perhaps have a friend who uses Netflix and happy to accept the credit and pay you the $95.94 in cash (which is what I did). Ends up being a $46 device which is better than the Google Store credit. This specific deal is not for all.

            • @Borg: Yeah i would prefer to sell it if possible.

Selling credit to stranger would be hard on ebay or gumtree.

          • @spedohero: What's the Google Store credit bit?

    • @AN Other: Seriously?. How can you say that $55 (55.5% off) isn't as good as it seems? That's a massive savings for somebody who already pays for Netflix Oz. And before anyone mentioned is, "no" I have no interest in Netflix Turkey and using a VPN. Can only shake my head!

      • Yeah, but it's $140 paid now to save $55 over six months, so less than $10 a month cashflow reduction vs $140 paid out today. If you don't have Chromecast it's okay. If like me you do, would you fork out $140 to save $10 a month on Netflix? It's not great.

Just told the wife this is back in stock and this version with remote is the 4K version and comes in colour too. She got pink immediately and looked happier than getting a new vibrator.

    • +1

Perhaps the old vibrator(s) is(are) performing adequately?

    • yeah but the real happiness comes later….

…when she starts WATCHING content ;)

Expected delivery end of November, but cheers OP!
Do I have to wait until the product is delivered to redeem the netflix offer?

  • -2

But people are COVID poor and need government financial assistance…. Geeze I tell you, ozbargain makes a mockery of that headline!!!

    • Alot of credit dept.

  • It didn't mention that it was basically a preorder and won't be delivered until november… would've appreciated some transparency regarding that. EDIT: Just for the sake of clarity I meant Google, not OP.

  • +2

$3.50/m Turkish Netflix for me, no way I'm risking this offer, Netflix could stop us at any time.

Good deal for legit users though

    • wah? is that basic plan?

      • Yeah, low resolution but good enough for me.

  • +1

Nov 19 delivery for my order!

    • Same for me. Pretty disappointing.

  • +5

Am I the only one disappointed with the lack of black?

    • +1

I'm +1 on this especially with a remote haha. Oh well.

      • I'd rather white. I'm forever losing my Nvidia shield remote.

        • same here, along with the remote for the tv/sound bard

  • any point getting a chromecast if you already have a 5yo smart TV with Android?

    • Newer software? =/

    • The difference the faster processor makes is enough for me.

      EDIT: And more updates/

  • i wonder how it compares to vodaphone tv, well its already better coz it supports dolby vision and voda tv does not. how much for the chromecast alone? i assume it should be way cheaper since its 50 bucks in usa..

    • +7

how much for the chromecast alone?

Don't be a lazy prick, it says in the deal description (literally the 10th word) and on the Google Store if you hit the back arrow.

    • This comes with Prime Video App that's not in VTV, can only be sideloaded.

      VTV anyways isn't available now

  • Just ordered Snow - Delivery Nov 13–16

  • If you don't require Netflix (like me who leeches from a friend) then get it from JB Hifi.

    Delivery is 15th Oct

    • JB colour only currently in snow.

  • +1

Back in stock but in fact $40 for 6 months of netflix is what the Turkish pays. So it's still $99 for a TV stick that is for sure going on sale very soon. Will wait.

    • +1

You get $95.94 Netflix credit, which brings the cost of the Chromecast down to about $40.

      • Not when I pay AU$7 a month. It only brings it down to $97.

        • +1

If you pay $7 a month, your $94 credit would last for 13 months.

      • Not really. It costs you $140 today, and depending on your Netflix contact you'll claw back $95 in 4-6 months. But the point is your bank balance today will be $140 down not $45 down.

Time to upgrade my trusty 1st gen chromecast!

  • I got "Delivered by 10–11 Dec."

  • I read it has bluetooth 4.1, does that mean I can use my bluetooth headphones to watch Netflix on my TV (without lag)?

    • That would be very interesting.

    • Never realised you can do just that with the Vodafone TV. Doesn't seem to lag. Thanks for the heads up!!

    • Yes you can!!

  • -2

Would get it if works with Turkish Netflix. Otherwise no deal

  • -7

    <rant>

All you people complaining it's not a deal because you get cheap Turkish Netflix through morally questionable VPN activity should be ashamed of yourself.

Same as people paying substantially less for Spotify, YouTube, 7-Eleven petrol etc by being dodgy. I don't understand why Ozbargain permits those sort of deal posts but not other things.

I argue it's basically the same as stealing or doing that self checkout thing where you buy an expensive fruit/vegetable but enter in a cheap thing like potatoes or something.

    </rant>

  • I've just ordered it. I don't have Netflix. Does it mean I can apply for Turkish account and then apply the Netflix credit into the account?

    • +1

No, use it on Australian netflix on the new account. When the six months are up then cancel and sign up again on the turkish

    • Was thinking of doing this. If it doesn't work, just send it back for refund.

      • You'll only get the device cost back $99

        • Only if you have redeemed the netflix offer right? If the turks don't accept it, then it's not redeemed.

Or am I getting it wrong?

          • @sh4hp: I think they can't tell so they just don't refund that portion. Add to that, I don't think your netflix account will reject it but it just won't deduct the amount being in a different currency. At least that's what happened with me and Uber

    • no.

  • +1

When I just tested white was going to be delivered mid Nov, pink was late Nov and blue was due to be delivered mid Dec.

  • My billing is through iTunes. Is that going to be an issue?

    • My guess is yes

    • Don't you have to pay the +30% apple tax on that sub?

      • Nope. Same price, but cheaper as I use iTunes gift cards.

  • can you sell the netflix credit?

    • Yes. It is just a code that adds credit once redeemed.

      • That is what I am thinking I would do then.

    • +1

Reading this you will struggle to sell it:

To redeem the Netflix offer, customers must set up an eligible Chromecast with Google TV device and follow the instructions to apply the offer value to a Netflix account by 1 March 2022.

  • Any other retailers got similar offers ,would love to go get in person instead off waiting on a fifo swing and shit tvs in donga

Does anyone know if there is a native-app for Binge that runs on Google TV and if it's stable ?. I've been casting on my old chromecast via iPhone and the experience is hit and miss.

    • +1

      Hope Binge works on it

    • VTV has a binge app, so surely this has it too

    • +1

Binge is currently released already on android tv, no reason why it would not work on this also as this system runs android tv, its just been renamed to google tv here.

  • Is this better than 4 year old Sony android tv?

    • +10

There's no screen on this one. A lot more compact though.

    • If you have HDR & Dolby and you can still watch the apps you need and they feel snappy & responsive then no. Otherwise worth a purchase.

  • Guys is there an app you can download which has all the local free to air tv in one app as well, therefore can use the Google remote to watch local tv as well?

    • Only if you're in Australia, not Turkey.

      https://www.finder.com.au/stream-freeview-with-chromecast

      • Thank you for your response. I just tried it but it seems like from free view if you want to want channel 10 for instance, it opens the channel 10 app to play ? Is there an option where in one app all free to air tv can be watched?

        • Android TV has an app that does that, so I'm sure you could download it or sideload it onto the Google TV. Its called tv wirl or something. Otherwise theres an add on for kodi that would work aswell.

  • can this be used for a projector? how does it do in playing back 4K video?

    • Does your projector have HDMI input?

      • Yes

  • WARNING: Pay attention to the delivery date! I added the blue one to cart. On checkout:
    Delivery: 10-11 Dec

    Two months? Pass.

For reference, white(snow) is showing 17-18 Nov

    • It'll be on sale so hard by Dec.

      • +1

Maybe, but colour versions are not available currently elsewhere and they wont come with the Netflix bundle outside from buying from google. So you have to way up the pros and cons that are important to you.

  • Thanks for this - I had ordered the device on its own but this looks too good to pass up and there seems to be no penalty to cancel your order and go for this one.

Unfortunately it appears to have pushed back my delivery date from the beginning of November to Mid-November. My 2016 Telstra TV is on its last legs so hopefully it holds out that long!

  • I'm reading all the comments talking about it's cheaper going through turkey for Netflix. Is it still working? Using nordvpn, doesn't look like that's an option anymore?
