    • Alright more careful reading of the offer page

Note: it's changed slightly in the last few hours

But the premise is the same

the 100,000 refers to point 1 (at the bottom of the page

100,000 bonus Qantas Points will be awarded when $4,000 or more is spent on eligible purchases within 3 months from card approval. Eligible transactions do not include Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions

But qantas earn points refer to point 7

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Qantas Points and government related transactions.

So it looks like to get the 100,000 you could probably even use it to pay your tax

Can anyone who has raised the $4,000 spend through bpay or other excluded points avenues and still got the 100k points?

      • I paid my council rates and it counted for the points

  • I just signed up, it looks like the best deal at the moment, hopefully the other providers have some good deals coming up this year

    • Amex has better deals at the moment if you can spend the required on an amex

      • Good point, I couldn't go Amex, I've just cancelled one

  • Merged from Qantas Premier Platinum MasterCard, $199 Annual Fee, 100k Qantas Points, 75 Status Credits (Min Spend $4000 in 3 Months)

Good credit card deal from Qantas Money

    • $199 annual fee
    • New cardholders earn 100,000 bonus points when you spend $4,000 or more on eligible purchases within 3 months of approval
    • 2 complimentary single-entry invitations every year for you to access a Qantas Club or Qantas operated International Business Lounge
    • 75 bonus Status Credits when you make an eligible purchase

Lounge passes may be transferable, but I wouldn't think there'd be much of a market at the moment. Status credits are also of questionable value at the moment, but even without both of these it's still a great deal

      Do they support Apple Pay?

      • They do not, unfortunately.

        • +1

I've been told that Apple Pay feature will be available from this week.

      • Just got Apple Pay! Have had the card 2 months, all set up now

      • Says they do on the application site.

        • +1

Yeah they literally added that yesterday haha

    • +5

Not $199 per year, just the first year.
"$299 per year. Special Offer - $199 annual fee for the first year. Offer extended to 24 February 2021."

      • fair enough, I hand't noticed this, but I'd hope most ozbargainers wouldn't keep the card for the second year

        • My CC says u get some of the points on sign up and more on the start of the 2nd year. I generally keep mine 2 years.

          • +2

@Joz2988: yeah, I've seen a few of those recently, I avoid those deals, but each to their own!

          • +2

@Joz2988: Normally the second year lot isn’t worth the renewal fee. You should ideally swap shortly after you get the initial bonus at 3 months on these sorts of cards.

            • @brimmy11: Mine is this
"90,000 BONUS POINTS when you spend $3,000 on everyday purchases within the first 60 days of account opening and 30,000 BONUS POINTS when you keep your card for over 12 months."
I thought screw it, 30,000 is enough to make me stay for the 2nd year rather than changing CC every year.

              • +1

@Joz2988: There's always 75-100k point promos, if you play it well you can get 75-100k points every 3 months.

    • "Eligible transactions do not include Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Refunds, Chargebacks and Special Promotions."

Does anyone know if payment to the ATO will count towards the $4,000 spending requirement?

      • In the past, my payment was not counted.

        • Dang can confirm that my last BAS payment didn't earn points spending directly with ATO.

I'll use the other payment service options next time (B2Bpay etc)

      • +2

I read somewhere that you can pay ATO bills with zippay and pay that off with a credit card. Apparently that was the hack to get points through a card like this, but can't confirm haven't tried.

I think someone in another thread said you can pay for it through sniip

I would say Westpac 75K QFF points for 0$ fee for the first year is a better deal, still ongoing:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573218

All you need to do is open a new account before applying for this CC, which also has a free 50$ offer:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573498

      • +1

+$50 QFF reward fee (westpac fee, not from qantas)

        • yep, I forgot to mention that…
$50 if you choose Altitude Qantas

      • I can only see 60k points when i click through the link

        • Sorry wrong post 🙈

      • no longer 75k and there is fee

        • The OP mentioned this as well - "All you need to do is open a new account before applying for this CC, which also has a free 50$ offer:"
Once you are a Westpac customer, the 75K points and fee waiver still exists.

    • Is this good value?

      • I would say yes.

At the low end, 100k Qantas points can be redeemed for a bit over $500 of gift cards.

        • Thanks

          • +2

@deme: 100k Qantas points could be redeemed for a few thousand dollars of flights prior to the pandemic.

    • 100K Qantas point worthy how much?

      • +1

https://www.pointhacks.com.au/rewards-points-valuations/ 1 point is worth about 1.9 cents.
Depends on what you're redeeming on, a biz class upgrade after paying for an econ fare can get a redemption rate of 2 - 4 cents a point.

      • I've redeemed a few electronics through the Qantas store (headphones and a soundbar), I think you get about 1c per point.

I got a flight from London to Melbourne in October 2019 for 55,000 points, i think they retailed for about $1,200, so thats 2.2cents per point

I also used Qantas points back in 2018 for flights Melb-London via China, the China-Heathrow leg was first class. I think it was about 200,000 points + $500 taxes. I've got no idea what these flights would have cost, but in theory, the 100,000 + $250 would get you to Melb-London with a first class leg on China Eastern.

        • +1

I did Munich to Perth in first class on emirates for 120k points + $500 and that’s usually a $10k flight.

          • -1

@brimmy11: Come March Emirates won’t allow you to redeem First Class with Qantas anymore.

            • @nightelves: Business is still very good, was 80k points + $500 for business Perth to Prague which is like a $4-5k redemption.

            • @nightelves: Don't believe that's true. You can still use Qantas points to redeem Emirates First Class seats for the time being, beyond Apr-21.

              • @squarepants: Oh wow did not know that. That's good to know. Hopefully borders will be open by then for us to enjoy Emirates First Class.

                • @nightelves: yeah closest one to do will be the Emirates First Class to NZ. Hopefully a travel bubble opens soon, and that Emirates is still flying the A380 for that route.

    • Assuming you need 18 months in between again? Just cancelled last month as didn't want to pay full annual fee

      • +1

The standard is 12 months waiting in between.
I recall Amex is the one asking for 18 months

        • Thanks!

    • How long should you wait between getting new credit cards (and cancelling current ones)? I picked up an Amex in October as I had some big purchases that allowed me to hit the required spend for some Qantas points. I have another big spend coming up in Feb that would allow me to pick up some more points on a new card, but I also don't want to trash my credit rating with plans to purchase a house this year.

This advice is based on my own experience and may not be suited to you or others.

The way that banks assess the impact of your credit cards on your ability to repay mortgages / other credit cards is they assume that you have them all maxed out. As long as you keep your total credit limit low, this shouldn't have an impact on your ability to borrow. I opened this card with a $3k limit, which is low.

Also, cancel your cards as soon as you can, to keep your combined credit limit low, and to allow you to apply again in 12-18 months

      • My partner and I keep switching over from one card to another, canceling out as soon as we get the points, and keeping our total credit limit at the minimum always. never had a rejection given we both are avg earners, 5 figures.

    • +4

Yeah, I think this is my next card as I'm on the waiting period for all the majors.

If only Citi were not so annoying to deal with

      • +1

        Seconded. Citibank is the worst.

      • +2

I applied for this and got knocked back. Which was weird as met the criteria - sent an email asking WTF.

Someone called me back and said that my credit rating was less than 12 months old. I've had a mortgage for a decade, had loads of credit cards over the years (didn't say this), and even had this very card 18 months ago.

So they said they'll check that.

Then someone called a few days later and went through the application again with me as they had lost my earlier one.

Dunno what's happening next, but Citibank living up to expectations.

    • Interesting they have this with min wage of $35k and annual fee of $199 (or $299 normally), and nothing in between as the next tier is the Titanium card with min wage of $200k and annual fee of $1200.

    • Anyone who has tried applying and got error message?

    • is there a minimum income requirement?

  • Cancelled the ANZ FF black which was coming up for it's annual fee. Going to apply for this next.

  • i had a citibank CC closed within the last 12 month can i still apply for this and get the sign up bonus thanks

    • Not sure about the sign up bonus but I also had a citibank card at the end of 2019 for the bonus qantas points and was approved for this card last week.

      • ok thank you, appreciated.

        • I actually forgot to check if this card had a 12 or 18 months exclusion period before i applied haha, but it's usually fine unless the offers were coming directly from the same bank itself

  • +3

Gosh the Citibank application process was painful. As others have reported, there were weird questions during the online application about have you ever worked at these places (no), or lived at these places (also no). Then a wait, then they called and wanted to know if ever had a specific work email address (no), or a specific work mail address (also no), or a specific work phone number (again, no). Then a week's wait, then they called again, and they asked the EXACT same questions again (same specific email address, same specific work mail address, same specific work phone number). Asked if they needed anything else, and they insisted they had everything they needed. And they said they can't process the application on the phone, it takes 1-2 days. Then the next day a third call that sounded just like the other 2 (about verifying some details) and was 99% sure they were going to ask for a third time about those exact same details - asked if they had spoken to last 2 people, because had already done this twice - they said they would go speak to them now (why didn't this happen before the call?). Then another wait for a week, then a text message to contact them to verify some details and if they don't get a call back within 48 hours, the application will be automatically rejected. Then call back, and be told by the automated call system that you're approved. And this whole process took 3 weeks. Provided zero extra information (apart from making it clear, repeatedly, that the specific details they kept asking about were not related), that 3 week delay was all them & their broken business process.

    Suggestions for Citibank:
    * Drop the silly data matching (have you lived here, worked here, had this email address, this phone number, etc) - whatever database you're using is utter garbage.
    * When someone tells you something, do not then contact them later and ask the exact same questions again. Record the answers so that you don't repeat yourself. Dealing with a company that has corporate Alzheimer's is not fun.
    * Give your phone operators the ability to rerun the application during the call, so that people don't have to wait 1-2 days to find out that some new bit of information is needed.
    * Text and email people when they are approved. It's a good thing! Don't ever let it be a surprise to someone that they were approved yesterday.
    * Try to go faster - 3 weeks from application to approval when the client provides almost zero additional information is crazy slow.
    * The line quality is sometimes terrible! Cutting out, poor quality phone line means it's really hard to understand people sometimes. A global bank like Citibank can surely organize a crystal clear phone line. It makes a difference.
    * Why did this take so many phone calls? This took 4 calls. At most it should have been 1, and frankly I don't even think the 1 was necessary.
    * Have your managers (or their family & friends) apply for your own cards. I.e. try eating your own dog food. They'll tell you just how painful the application process is. Then they should go apply for an Amex, to compare and contrast - you get asked questions once, you get an answer whilst on the phone, the operators are friendly and knowledgeable, and it's a smooth painless respectful quick process.

      Hah this guy gets it.

Citibank are the bank equivilent of a cancer

    • But did you get the card? >.<

      • +1

😂 Approved, waiting for it to arrive. Thank goodness banks must now by law offer a way of closing the card online, so hopefully no further phone calls required from here on out.

  • +1

Got rejected, emailed back asking for a manual review. Two days and still no response, not even a confirmation of email received. Makes me think of backyard operations in some backwater country tbh, definitely not a multinational corporate.
