Saw an ad on Instagram for the iPhone SE on a plan. Minimum cost is $584 so could essentially cancel before the end of the first month and get the phone outright for a good price.

Total minimum cost is one month of your plan fees plus 100% of the MPP instalments of your chosen device. If you choose to cancel your Vodafone Infinite Month to Month Plan, your MPP will auto cancel and 100% of the remaining handset instalments will be applied to your next bill. Recurring monthly plan fee charged until the end of the month in which you cancel.

The seem to have brought this deal back: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/558390

  • isnt there a plan early cancellation fees?

    • I couldn’t see if there were any on that page. Probably not a deal if there are.

I did this last week for my daughter and did not receive a cancellation fee at all, I didn't even try to set the voda card up.

No, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone no longer have 'contracts' (unless you go for say JB HiFi or special Optus Flybuys offers plans) - they're all month to month with your phone split over 12/24/36 months.

Cancel at any time, and you just pay out whatever's left on the phone repayment.

Month to month = no early cancellation fees

    • So no extra fees, the handset itself is $549 so the $584 includes the first month then should be okay to cancel.

I believe the consensus is that this phone has a bad battery. Would buy it but the OG SE had the same "issue". Batteries degrade fast, iOS starts shutting down earlier and earlier, pretty much a bad time all round.

The iPhone SE 2020 is based on the iPhone 8, not the OG SE.

Yeah I had one of these and battery drains far too quick , you can barely get away with doing anything on it. Even just listening to a podcast on the commute drained a lot

I’m still using my og se almost 4 years now. Still sweet as.

      • Original battery?

        • My Battery died after 3 years 7 months. didn't use it for more than 20 hours a week

        • Yeah original battery.

    • ‘Bad battery’ implies something wrong with the battery itself.

Arguably the phone’s battery capacity is inadequate which is something else and not so alarming.

My 8 flies through a charge unless I put it on battery saver so it’s not hard to believe these batteries are a little too small for comfort.

    • smaller phone has a smaller battery, yes. It won't last 18 hours of constant use, but if you can charge it, it's not really an issue.

I owned the original SE and have owned the 2020 SE for a few months now.
Basically no issue with the battery, it’s a huge improvement over the original SE with battery life (had a new one installed by Apple only a few month before it died of a hardware failure). Sure if you’re on your phone literally all day it won’t last, but easily get a day out of it without issues where the old SE use to struggle with.

      • Son has the SE2020 and has yet to whinge about the battery life

  • Reading this on my fast draining 85% battery max capacity OG SE. Battery is indeed crap but just need to be aware that it’s crap and act accordingly.

  • I went for this deal back when the 128GB was $679, plus the service fee for the first month. I was expecting the first month to be $35 as shown when you sign up. But after I canceled in the first month (nothing paid so far), I got the second month bill for the total cost of the phone plus $40. Seems the $5 off per month only applies if you join and continue to stay on with them.

    • I thought they only charge you pro-rata so you often only get charged for a couple of days usage…might be wrong about that

      • To be clear I didn't even activate the sim, just called to try and cancel and get out of paying for any service fee. Two calls and one online chat later, I settled on just agreeing to pay for the first months service. Which really agrees with the Minimum total cost as stated when you sign up online, just that the $5 off wasn't valid I guess.

  • Oh wow, how do you go about signing up?
