      Someone mentioned on the model without the VESA stand (which has the same panel) doesn't support HDCP 2.2 so not ideal for Netflix 4K. Dunno whether that's true or not.

        If I'm not mistaken neither the S2721Q, S2721QS have HDCP 2.2 so Netflix or Amazon Prime 4k will not work.

          If that's the case, then it also means UHD blu-ray playback is not possible with this. Seems strange. However, unlike other Dell monitors, where Dell tells you, Dell has not released any official info on this.

                    @netsurfer: Under "see more specs" it says HDCP 1.2 compliant standard. It seems odd that there is a total lack of information on it. It has HDMI 2.0 so I'd assume it would have HDCP 2.2 as well. A quick Google suggests some HDMI 2.0 4K monitors have had HDCP 1.4 though.

                      @Yuri Lowell: I had a chat with Dell monitor support and can confirm it only supports HDCP 1.2. This is so unfortunate as many people will be buying this monitor with watching Amazon prime or Netflix 4k in mind.

                      The cheapest 4k HDR monitor I can find that supports HDCP 2.2 is this:

                      It is 28inch and has better colour gamut compared to this Dell model.

                        @Sze Kai: Truly bizarre. Wasn't the RRP of this monitor like $800 when it released? Hardly a budget range. Might cancel my order even though HDCP isn't that important to me. You'd expect more for a 4K monitor at its price (before discount).

                        Edit: Well I found one shady blog from Japan that has a photo of his PS4 Pro with the supposed monitor and it says HDCP 2.3. I'm gonna stick with it and hope for the best.

          My LG 27in UHD IPS FreeSync Monitor (27UD59) I paid under $400 for it end of 2018 has HDCP 2.2 not as bright as the Dell but fine for PC use but tested as a TV monitor would be ideal if it was brighter and speakers

      I have a Dell 32 inch curved one with good speakers.

      You cant fit good speakers in a very thin monitor. The curved ones are "to hell with it, we aren't going for thin so there is space for speakers".

      Most modern OSes have some kind of scaling option. Now, whether or not it's actually gonna be any better than 1440, that's another question.

        There's no way 27" 4k is unusable, my 13" XPS is 4k and looks amazing and so does a 6" 1440p phone.
        The difference in distance from a laptop to monitor is not that large but the monitor is double it's size and I find the 13" 4k just barely matches phone resolutions these days with 6" 1440p at arms length.

          I don't know why people can't seem to comprehend pixel density on PC displays despite its use (and apparent necessity) on phones and tablets for years now.

          With OS-wide scaling you have the same "apparent resolution" as a 1080p or 1440p screen - in terms of the stuff you can fit on the screen - but everything is much sharper… just like on a phone.

          Macs have done this natively for donkey's years (ie retina displays) and don't suffer from the occasional issues you see on windows where apps don't support scaling properly and either appear tiny and/or fuzzy.

          If you want something close to HiDPI/retina level pixel density (i.e. so Macos looks good), you wouldn't want anything larger than 4K 27". 25" or less is better.

      I’m using 1080p 27” and I could see the pixel ( I use it on a desk and about 80cm away from the monitor), 4K isn’t too high in my opinion.

      No it is awesome, but I am a fetishist for pixel density. I upscale to 125% and the text and everything else is obscenely crisp. The only reason I upscale is so it matches my 1440p monitor next to it. It's definitely usable at 100%.

      This is an exciting price for a 4k ips.

      It isn't, 13" laptops come at 4k these days, and 6" phone screens are 1440p. I would not want a monitor less than 4k at 27", unless you are looking to see pixelated screens all day.

      If you use a 13" 4k laptop at 0.6m it is equivalent to this monitor at >1.2m distance.
      If you use a 1440p phone at 0.4m then the equivalent pixel density is at >1.2m
      If the monitor is placed any less than 1.2m away, then the pixel density is lower than those other devices

          Well, according to the display.specification, this monitor only supports HDCP 1.4. That means no Netflix 4K, no UHD Blu-Ray playback. Certainly hope display.specification is wrong on that one. Otherwise, it would explain why this monitor is heavily discounted.

    Everyone has their own preferences but personally I find 27" 1440p too low res. Not enough real estate. 27" 4K is perfect for me because I find 32" a tad too large in terms of physical size (need to move eyes a lot depending how close monitor is). At 27" using 4K, I would scale up one level only and that is perfect.

      Read some not so great things about the S3221QS even for a VA panel, so went with this. Dell really knows how to get you back with those $60 coupons from the S2721DGF deal… I figured I would put it towards this model with the better stand.

      Along with what others have mentioned the U2720Q has USB-C import with 90w charging and USB downstream/hub. Excellent for if you've got a laptop you want a one-cable-does-all setup. Also someone managed to get it for like $700 I've seen previously in comments, but they don't have stock for those deals anymore.

      You can use it. Is it a good option? Depends. It will work, but two different display res generally isn't perfect for dual monitor setup. It is less of an issue for desktop since both screens are always on.

    These have built in speakers in them and I got two of these side by side connected to my laptop but audio only comes out from one monitor. Is it possible to have audio come out from both monitors? I have them both connected via DisplayPort to a Thunderbolt hub which runs to the laptop

      No, both Windows and Mac support single sound source out by default. Furthermore, this monitor supports line out only (no line in support), that means even if you use audio out ports on your motherboard / laptop / soundcard, there is no sound input via analog port into the monitor.

      It's great for PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One X and Series X. Affordable 4K display but you lack HDR or anything above 60Hz, although games are unlikely to support over 60Hz at 4K on console. The alternative is a 1440p 144Hz display.

        Also, not able to use HDR on console is not good. I don't get why Dell put HDCP 2.2 in the 27 inch 1440p gaming monitor, but not on the 4K display.

          To be fair HDR is garbage in all monitors unless you go very high end. If you want that it's best to just grab a decent TV. If HDCP 2.2 doesn't exist that is a big disadvantage though. Personally, not something I care for as I only play games and watch 1080p blu-rays. I'll test it when I get mine though to see if it plays 4k blu-rays.

            @Yuri Lowell: HDR400 is a gimmick, rather than proper HDR. However, lack of HDCP 2.2 would be a big issue. 4K monitors shouldn't cut corner there, especially Dell. HDCP 2.2 is a standard created back in 2013. A 4K monitor which is a 2020/2021 model should implement it.

            A 4K monitor incapable of watching legit 4K contents (UHD blu-rays, Amazon Prime 4K, Netflix 4K, Chromecast Ultra etc…) is just silly.

            I'll test it when I get mine though to see if it plays 4k blu-rays.

            That's basically what most people will be doing. Hoping that it is a typo and it is actually HDCP 1.4/HDCP 2.2. Because, it if is only HDCP 1.4, then Dell product design team is completely clueless.

            @icefire09: It will work fine with gaming. But if you play any 4K media that requires HDCP you'll be out of luck (Netflix 4K only concern on PS4 Pro). It'll also block 4K blu-rays if you have a 4K player.

                  @Yuri Lowell: An OZBer has confirmed from the other OZB deal (for the Q model, the one without the VESA stand) that HDCP 2.2 is supported. He has tested the Cyberlink software as well as Netflix 4K.

                  However, for people aren't that familiar with 4K PC situation. If you have only Intel CPU or laptops with intel CPU without external GPU, unless the maker (i.e. Intel for their NUCs) wired the DisplayPort via an LSConn chip to convert it to HDMI 2.0 port, intel's 9th gen or below CPUs's native HDMI port is incapable of HDMI 2.0/4K@60Hz. It is unclear whether Intel finally fixed it in 10th gen CPU or not (I don't own one so I have not researched it). Just bear in mind that intel has used the DisplayPort converter hack for 8th and 9th gen NUCs and for 7th gen NUC, you need to get your own DisplayPort to HDMI converter with LSConn chip.

                  Anyway, so for intel 7th, 8th or 9th gen CPU with Thunderbolt 3 port that supports Alt mode, it is possible to do it through a dongle, but not all dongles will give you 4K/60Hz and even less number of them will let you do HDR. In short, if you intend to just use intel embedded graphics, chances are it won't be fun. You probably want decent nVidia or AMD GPUs that support HDMI 2.0a properly.

    Says it will be delivered on November 10th haha what the hell… I just kinda assumed everything on the site could be delivered in 2-3 days.

    It's 'in production' now so I guess they're making me a fresh one

      I bought mine 2-3 weeks ago. Mine said in production yesterday too, today it is with courier maybe get it later this week.
      My original estimate was 7th of Oct to 15th of Oct (their next shipment), we knew that during the (ebay) sale, Sounds like yours maybe the next shipment from OS.

      I am sure it is worth the wait, it better be :)
