            • @[Deactivated]: B28 is one of the prerequisites. The telco also needs to support the firmware of your brand. G6 is a Gionee? You may call up Boost customer care and ask - they need to "enable" VoLTE on your SIM. Have you tried that?

              • @djoz: I'll give them a call to find out

            • @[Deactivated]: I too am in the same position. From my understanding, Telstra have only select handsets which have the necessary VOLTE profile.

          • @djoz: Just realised that apparently Optus does not support VoLTE on their own pre-paid plans even.
Looks like the only way to have VoLTE on prepaid is Boost now…..

            • @Make it so: As of now, yes. Boost Prepaid is the only "Prepaid" option for VoLTE. Many users are using it. A Friend of mine has Samsung S9 (2 years old model) and gets it on his phone. I, however, do not get it on my phone. Been struggling for it wince a long time, but eventually I think without B28, its not possible.

I had discussed this a bit in forums as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/558457

              • @djoz: Thanks.

Gosh, they are making it so hard. I have been "okay" with not having VoLTE, but obviously with 1 in 3 outgoing calls failing (and I may well be missing incoming calls too), it is becoming unacceptable. With carriers removing 3G support, it is a matter of time before other carriers also start to hit capacity issues for non-VoLTE calls. I'll have to move to Boost, which apparently is not easy if you are on Telstra.

                • @Make it so: If you read the comments in the above forum link, some people have reported their phones without Band 28 support Telstra VoLTE. Is that possible

                  • Some peeps have reported VoLTE working on Xiaomi Mi A1, Mi A2 (although not listed in the whirlpool wiki for Telstra VoLTE)
                  • Some have confirmed it works on Mi 9T / 9T Pro (also listed on the whirlpool wiki for Telstra VoLTE
                  • @djoz: I have a feeling that the reason it may work on the Chinese phones is because they put in support for Telstra VoIP without caring about whether Telstra is okay with it. Remember, China deals with Intellectual Properly differently - their laws differ. Telstra cannot physically stop them, and they are not worried about getting sued.

I don't think the supported frequency bands are an issue - it is purely whether the correct VoLTE configuration exists on the phone. Any company that does not want to be sued in Australia will not put it in unless Telstra gives them permission. Xiaomi wouldn't worry about such things.

                    • @Make it so: Wow. I must be someone special then to lose out on this. Got a Xiaomi phone, Got no Band 28, Got Boost Prepaid since 1.5 years now. No VoLTE :-(

    • Yes, so many towns outback Qld and up near Cairns I go through we get a message on all mobiles saying we can’t make or receive calls because it’s a 4g area only. We have LG, Oppo and Huawei phones. Telstra being more and more useless for us while travelling.

vs Boost (Telstra) - what's the point of having 40GB more when you don't get as good coverage
vs Woolworths (Telstra) - 10% grocery discount

    no deal

    • What’s the Woolies offer?

    • +4

I have been on Telstra for 2 years, after being on Optus for many years. I honestly cannot say Telstra has been any better in terms of coverage.

For a one year period that I was on Telstra, my wife was on Optus. When we went outside metro, there was times she had coverage, and I didn't. At no point in time did I ever have better coverage than her. This is my personal experience, and yours may differ.

      • Worked in teleco industry for a bit. Can depend on coverage in your local area. How many dedicated Optus vs Telstra antennas/towers there are around the place. Generally in populated areas like the CBD Optus and Telstra will have full coverage everywhere

        • +2

Yes - that's why it doesn't make sense to generalise about coverage for the whole country. I have had very bad luck with Vodafone in Perth metro, though. And worse outside metro. So I tend to avoid them.

Any TM on here know if our TM discount applies to Coles Mobile?

    • +1

Yea it does. And mycoles benefit works out $7.84 per month for the 12 months…must buy by Tuesday 3rd November for this.

  • Nothing besting my inclusions from March's virus outbreak: realising Boost's next recharge stinginess plus new unavoidable volatility.
Little appears changed elsewhere. Plenty time to plan next jump, but put off by Coles' pdf within 30 days pesky activations anyway.

  • +1

    Optus, nah never again.

  • Yeah it's not bad unless your a hermit.

  • Will I still be able to receive calls or texts when using this overseas?

Could I make free calls back to Aus if in a country with the free international calls to?

    Cheers :)

  • I wouldn't really put my money on the 10% off per month. I was supposed to get this while on Woolies car insurance, but never got this at all.

    • I have been getting mine for my home insurance. Perhaps you should get in touch with them, they might even be kind enough to send you a gift card to make up for past purchases where the discount has not applied.

  • Re international calls, Boost allows mobile and fixed to listed countries, Coles only allows calls to fixed lines?

  • +1

Does anyone know if I can purchase it now and activate it in January 2021, since I am already with Boost and it doesn't expire until Jan 2021.
Boost used to allow me to recharge it after 6 - 7 months of purchase.

  • Telstra & Boost> Telstra on sold (Belong, Woolies & Aldi)> Optus network > Vodaphone Network.

    • +1

Your location > All of the above

      • Dammit, I wish I put that in at the start!

    • I've never tried Vodaphone is it really that bad?

    • not where I work
Optus is the only network that has ANY reception

  • +1

For anyone interested in Boost for roaming…
    From their website
"From 13 October 2020, international roaming will no longer be available on your Boost Mobile service, and Add-ons will not have roaming inclusions. A new version of international roaming will launch in mid-2021."

    • Shouldn't impact too many people - given that international travel is switched off right now.

Noob question - but would the data speed and coverage be worse than using Optus the prepaid 365 day option ($159 for 60GB of data)?

  • Is Coles mobile activation down? It keep saying SIM card number is invalid during activation

  • I was scouring the Critical information summary and Website for a while - is it a simple $150 for 120GB/365 days when you recharge? To check recharge pricing you had to have a number already with them..

    • If you order this online, you will get a SIM as well. Its a SIM starter Kit. If you already have a SIM, you may recharge $150, is what I understand.

      • Thanks mate. Yea that's what I was trying to figure out, in a year's time whether it's the same price as buying a new sim ($150 for 120GB/365 days), or if it's like Optus where recharges cost more than the first SIM (which I would expect)

  • Currently on special for $120 until 18/11/20 for new customers: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/578665

  • for anyone that has ported to coles - how long did the porting process take? I'm porting from boost and my boost sim runs out today

    • How long did it take for you?

  • I am with Dodo and want to keep my number.

Do I just simply order this sim through the ColesMobile website? Or can I just go to our local Coles store and get the simcard on the spot?

    Sorry for the noob question!

    • +1

Both will work. Just choose to Port your number during activation.

  • Would Anybody know if I get this from coles store , would I be eligible to get flybuys points ?

I definitely can’t get the flybuys points if I buy it online

  • I can wait for this to go back to $120. Any idea when this will be back?

Keep checking, and watch out for the Coles Catalogue deals posted here on OzB.

      • Can you please share the link of the Coles catalogue, if you know. I will bookmark it :)

        • +1

          Here you goL https://www.coles.com.au/catalogues-and-specials

The offers run every Wednesday to Tuesday. the Catalogue deals are usually published on OzB on the preceding Monday itself. As of this week, its the 60GB annual plan on offer: $120 $99.

  • How long does the porting into Coles Mobile (from Telstra/ Boost) take in your experience? Thanks.

    • Apologies, I haven't ever ported to Coles Mobile. I just posted this deal as it beats the popular Boost $150 plan, which I am on currently. Given that Coles Mobile is Optus, a port from Telstra/Boost should be seamless and should not take much time, usually. In any case, it won't be much of an hassle in my opinion.

  • are we able to use a coles gift card to purchase a coles mobile prepaid?

  • "Activate bonus SIM within 30 days of purchase". is this a hard rule?
is the $120 credit configured to expire after 30 days?

    • On a previous offer like this early this year the $2 SIM activated fine about 2-3 months after i bought it, and the recharge voucher "activate by" date was about 10 months from purchase date. I ported from Boost and have had no issues with the Coles service, mainly using it as a second sim for the free OS sms and calls.

  • +1

$129 last week. ported from boost in 14 minutes :)

  • Catch Connect now has a similar plan, but $120. Also with Optus.

  • Wondering why this deal is More popular than the boost mobile $200 for $150ish 140gb when they are on Telstra network not Optus??
