  • Wasn't this $99 last week?

    • +3

Think the $99 was for 60gb.

      • Yeah I just noticed :)

        • $21 more get you double the data, seems better deal.

  • +2

My boost 80gb will be ending soon, looks like this is a great replacement. Is there an latest activation date?

    • +1

According to the details: "Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion, whichever is earliest."

      • That's something I can't understand. It's said "Offer ends: 18/11/20", so we have to activate by 18/11?

        • +3

I'm going to assume (which I know is bad) that the sale ends 18th Nov, so you'd have to buy before then to get the $30 off.
Afterwards you have 30 days to activate from purchase date.

          • +1

@philldo: You are Correct. I just had a chat with them.

            • @arsenal1: @arsenal1 great - thanks for confirming!

            • +1

@arsenal1: If you buy from a store, how would their system know when you bought it?

              • +1

@pitpicker: as it goes through the register like a gift card to a back end system

              • +1

@pitpicker: Gift cards/sims etc get loaded/activated at the register when purchased. Though, I would suspect that this term is just like what Optus says, and you don't actually have to use it within 30 days. I never had a problem using Optus cards after 30 days.

      • The thing is coles say " we advice you to activate within 30 days".

Technically can activate after 30 days within 12 months but they say that plan may change , basically saying "you may not have everything in plan as it was mentioned when you bought it"

I think they just trying to get people to activate within 30 days for else have customer take responsibility for any lowering/addition of data or like loosing/addition of any other feature

  • +2

Great deal.. I like the "boost" in data for $10 per month !

Boost Mobile must be wondering… why am I losing customers?

    • +1

Yeah I'll be swapping when my current boost runs out, guess it'll depend on if there's another deal for this or (more likely) amaysim deal as they both seem to better value than boost now

      • +1

        (more likely) amaysim deal

maybe not, considering that big daddy Optus just bought amaysim

    • Lol, until maybe June 2021, I bet Boost will then bring out 5G network to bring back the customers but I don't see this is happening any time soon because not everyone wants to get 5g handset XD

  • +2

very good deal for people calling overseas.

    • True, I already switched to catch and use data to call overseas now, but I'll definitely be looking at the Coles deal next year!

    • boost has unlimited calls to the Philippines coles don't so guess its what country you need.

  • Anyone know if VoLTE work on Coles mobile?

    • Nope, it wont.

    • I don't know if it does yet, but it will according to this article:
      https://www.crn.com.au/news/optus-launches-volte-wi-fi-calli…

      • Optus doesn't even offer VoLTE to its own $180/365days plan, so I'm doubtful this (comparable) Coles plan will get it any time soon :(

      • +2

The only MVNO partner that has actually taken up the offer is SpinTel - no other MVNOs have.
Also, that CRN article is missing one key point - it's only available to postpaid MVNOs

        https://www.optus.com.au/about/media-centre/media-releases/2…

Optus is the first mobile carrier network operator in Australia to give postpaid service providers access to Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and WiFi Calling, demonstrating Optus’ commitment to its wholesale partners.

    • No - no VoLTE or WiFi Calling.

    • I can confirm the voice quality of Coles mobile is better than Boost even it does not offer VoLTE or WifiCalling. Boost got a voice delay for I18N calling. sometimes I had to pause the callee finished talking.

  • +2

I wonder when other networks are going to start offering eSim options.

    • +1

I think MVNO will not be getting esim over the main provider yet.

      • Yep. Founder of Boost thinks esim is such a potential game changer that the big Telcos will block MVNO uptake of it for as long as they can

        • +1

Yet another example of where the regulatory authorities are weak here in Oz. Consumers are disadvantaged yet again.

          • @bulletmark: Agreed. If they were bold enough to kick up a stink about the Vodafone-TPG merge then why not take up the fight regarding esims?

    • I'm REALLY waiting for that too!

  • Wish has 10% Coles discount once a month like Woolies

    • Think they gonna give sims with everything free, you just have to shop twice a month.

  • Does anyone know if roaming is enable? (That is calling from overseas - once we can travel again…)

    • +1

It's impossible to have international roaming enabled for a meager $120, or they'd go belly up

      • +2

You need to buy Extras Credit $5 or $15 for International Roaming

  • +1

    In store or online only??

    • $150 at the store today, so online offer only, me thinks.

      • +1

It would scan at the lower rate. Mine did though it showed full price at the shelf.

        • +1

does it have an expiration/activate by date on the packet?

    • +3

Can confirm in store too. Just bought one.

      • does it have an expiration/activate by date on the packet?

  • oh man, was hoping i could buy now and use when my boost one expires at the start of feb

    • I wish these Coles deals came earlier about 6 months back. I renewed with Boost $150 plan for a second year back then.

  • +1

To what extent can you pick your own number when setting up this Sim?

For example , amaysim allows you to search for 5 digits and then generate a random list of numbers

    • like to know as well

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to port your number over to this service? I imagine you could, but haven't seen any information. Thanks.

    • +3

Yes you can, all done when you go to set up the service on their site

Did it a couple of weeks ago

    • +3

You can port your number to any Telco, there's no restriction,

  • +1

I'm currently on Amaysim $10 /pm with 2GB data, so this seems like a no-brainer.

I'm thinking that with the end of Amaysim mobile and customers moving to Optus, the good old days of cheap Groupon Amaysim renewals is unlikely.

    • 2GB is what I use in probably a week.

    • True if you don't need more data and free International calls for the same price

    • But Amaysim is 28 days expiry though.

  • +1

do you get access to free optus sport?

    • Would like to know also

  • +1

Woohoo.. best value for bucks. RIP Boost

  • Has anyone had success in buying this in-store with discounted gift cards ?

    • this should work, the sim scans like a product and gift cards go through as a tender. I bought mine last week (bugger) on one of the self-checkouts and it offered all tender types.

      • One of my friends tried it this morning, system offered gift card as an option, but the gift card did not get scan. Sought help from the attendant who declined to accept the gift card. ( She said they are not allowed by system ). Will check at some other store.

        • i bought giftcards with coles egiftcard before, they do scan giftcard under flybuys scanner but the balance has to be equal or greater the the giftcards that you want to buy, otherwise it does not work

  • Just out of curiosity to those who are with Coles Mobile, do you get 120gb data upfront to use at any time through the year or does it break down the data to 10gb per month?

    • +1

      Upfront.

  • If you want to earn flybuys with the purchase, buying in-store is the way to go.. spoke to support and they confirmed it isn't possible to earn flybuys through ColesMobile website.

  • +1

Fark me. I thought I had a good deal buying the 99 60gb a couple of days ago…

  • +1

If you don’t care about the International minutes catch can be had for $108 (use unidays discount) and if you pay by gift card on offer even less

    • Please share more

  • Buy plan from catch 120gb for $120. Use a discount code from unidays or student beans which knocks off another $12. Pay using gift cards from Suncorp (minus $6.72)
Total $105.28 (if you find cheaper sim cheaper)

  • Can u port from. Optus prepaid to this? Or do you have to port to another provider and then this?

    • I'm pretty sure you can port from Optus prepaid to this but it may take up to 24 - 48 hours on same network unless they had changed the system recently?

Quicker way is to port to Telstra or Vodafone which can get u ported out within 10minutes to 4 hours then port over to Coles Mobile.

      • A friend moved from Moose to catch and was done within one minute (they are both Optus)

    • I helped my mother port from Catch to Coles. Did it before my 3rd watch shift and it was done by the end of my shift in the morning! I was impressed.

Much better than one of her prior Optus to Boost attempts in the past, still can't get calls.

Oh and because I wasn't paying attention if you want the 120gb plan, don't make the mistake of buying the $120 pack, buy the $150 pack as my husband pointed out when I got home lol! They all look the same. I doubt my elderly mother will use up the full 60gb, but apparently Coles lets you rollover 50gb which seems like a good idea to pick up the extra 60gb anyway.

  • Thanks! Was planning to buy next week

  • +2

If i switch from boost, what will i miss other than telstra vs optus network coverage?

  • +1

Can anyone say how Coles mobiles is? Optus coverage?
I am switching from boost Telstra
    Thank you

  • Does anyone know if you can still get cellular for Apple Watch with this sim plan?

    • Not an esim so no

  • -1

Does anyone know if the speed gets shaped once the 120GB Data has been used?

    • Data is counted in 1KB increments and includes uploads and downloads. After you’ve used your included data, you will no longer be able to use your data service until you recharge again, unless you have an active Data Extras pack.

      • -2

        Thanks for this.
        I'm going to pass then.

        • +1

No prepaid company offers shaped except belong (as far as I know)

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if these deals which run on the Optus network (Catch Connect, Coles Mobile) will be able to receive SMSs (like from banks) for free while overseas?

    • Check under roaming. Catch used to not sure if still the case

    • Actually I just got a message by catchconnect that they will not offer roaming anymore from December

  • Bought one online

    In shipping email

"Remember you'll need to activate your Coles Mobile SIM card within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion in order to receive any special offers that applied when you bought your Coles Mobile Prepaid plan."

Since I've already paid the $120 for $150 credit, I assume I can wait as long as I want before activating?

    Can anybody advise?

    • According to the chat people had no. However, catchconnect states the same and I have waited more than a month (catch does say that their sim expires after 2 years though, how about Coles?)

  • +3

Do not get this is you want international roaming!
I recently started the 12 month sim and today
    I got an email saying:

"We’re making some changes to the Coles Mobile Extras Credit for your Coles Mobile service. From 8 December 2020, international roaming will no longer be available on your Coles Mobile service and Coles Mobile Extras Credit won’t have any roaming inclusions."

Tomorrow I'm going to demand a refund how dare they change the terms after purchase!! Avoid these snakes.

    • I think most of the MVNO mobile provider except for main telco provider, are excluding international mobile roaming. I received the same email from Catch mobile and telling me the same thing too.

      • Same here!

OPTUSMSG: Hi, it’s important to us that you’re aware of changes we’ve made to your Catch Connect service. From 08/12/2020, international roaming will no longer be available on your service and Catch Extras pack won’t have any roaming inclusions. For more info go to catchconnect.com.au/support or chat with us online.

Not happy about it either. I only started my service 3 weeks ago!

      • +1

This a very bad development. It started with Boost and Telstra Prepaid and is now happening at Optus MVNOs

I don't ever spend much on roaming but the piece of mind from being able to receive urgent texts and 2 factor login codes a major plus for me.

Hopefully Amaysim keeps it around (as they're now being purchased by Optus directly)

        • Yep got caught up with Belong and 2FA while traveling last year…

      • Can you still receive text messages though? I'm only concerned about the receive part.

        • +1

No you will not be able to receive anything while outside Australia after 8/12 when roaming is disabled by coles.
Btw I just got a pro rata refund from Coles mobile because they are stopping roaming. Initially they didn't want to refund me but the TIO helped me. We are very lucky to have safeguards like this in Australia.

    • Thanks for the warning - was about to activate from this deal but am now going to force them to refund if I can - ridiculous

  • I'd snap two of these up if they had a longer activation date. Our 365 plan with Boost doesn't expire till Feb 21.

  • What's peoples experience with Coles mobile and their customer service? This deal is great but they have some pretty terrible online reviews

  • I'm half way through my Boost plan, and already shot through the data quota. Is this the best alternative, or should I look for a data only plan?

Browsing around didn't yield great results—lowest data rate at Aldi Mobile is $1/GB, and you have to buy 365 of them.

    • How much Data do you use approximately per month? Currently I think Kogan have some good data

40gb a month costing $300 (existing customers but just getting a 3 months sim is $15 then move on this) https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

Or boost sims one year with 240gb data can be found around $240 (search on here)
