      • Don’t leave them on for too long in the enclosure. It gets really hot.

        • thanks. so say I watch maybe 2-4 hours worth of content, you'd suggest to switch off the power to the HDD?

          • @itsmehuey: Yeah. The air flow in these enclosure is really crap. Unless you have a small fan blowing at it.

            • @kaal: Ah, I may need to eventually look into a NAS then. It'll have to do for now I guess.

  • Anyone use this HDD for internal storage and are there any issues I should be aware of? Thanks.

    • ONly issue is the tape mod may be needed for internal

      • Hey whats this tape mod and why please

    • @Jaydee4 & @Italkdigital
      This is explained here

  • +1

    I just bought a couple
    Buy now think later

    • 30 day return policy apparenty so plenty of time to think hahah wish could do more than 3 units :(

      • yea that 3 unit limit is annoying, that where you need to set up a prime trial for your missus to buy another 3

      • Why not just place another order?

        • I just saw you can (it showed me the non prime deal when the cart checked out hahah)

I think i'm gonna wait for another round or possibly another brand, kinda worried to get my whole nas done from the one batch, or should i just yolo it :/

        • Won't let you there is a limit too your account in orders

        • Lets you add three more to a second cart but then when going to checkout says there was an error with the item and zeroes the item count as the limit is applied to your Amazon account :(

  • Thankyou! This comes at a time as I am just about out of storage. I am thankful I saw this deal before it had the dreaded, red "out of stock" msg on it.

  • Ordered one and thanks.

  • Does anyone know if this would work in a TerraMaster NAS? It isn't listed in the compatible HDDs for NAS but I hope someone knows how much (if at all) that matters. I'm thinking of getting 2 drives and the 2 bay NAS when that deal goes live this afternoon

    • It would almost certainly work.

SATA is a pretty long-running standard now. The big question of compatibility is whether a device can handle 4K sectors instead of the traditional 512 byte sectors - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Format - and if a device supports that, it'll probably support pretty much any drive.

(There's also the 3.3v pin issue, to be fair)

      • Thanks for the detail! Someone else also let me know that they should be compatible, but I would have to do the pin mod. I jumped on it for this price.

        • I have the 4 bay Terra Master NAS and 2x 14tb from the previous deal. Both running well as we speak. Didn't need to do the pin mod. Bought another 2 drives today to fill up the NAS.

        • No need for pin mod. I got it as internal use and it works fine.

  • Nice, I've got 12TB NAS so this will let me backup the lot.

  • Thanks. Ordered one.

  • Thanks, got two. Waiting this for so long.

  • Hooray! Been waiting for this kinda price. Bought. Thanks!

  • aaaaaand 3 ordered. Thanks OP.
I almost wish that I had waited for Prime Day before filling my NAS with 8x 12TB drives a month ago!

  • +4

amazon au 12tb for $289 if people is concerning about warranty.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-Elements-Desktop-W…

    • Ah I think I might prefer this one… thanks!

    • Once you shuck it the warranty is gone pretty much anyway :/

      • Nope, under ACL if you buy aussie stock, and US law the manufacturer has to prove that your modifications damaged the product functionally. Those warranty void stickers mean nothing.

    • What advantage in warranty ? The 30 day money back guarantee?

  • Finally ordered one, since last deal, checking few days.

  • Ordered 3 for $334 last month. Now order another one to fulfill my nas.

  • +2

So for shucking I wont need the tape mod if I was using it for NAS but if im shucking it for PC use I'd need to use the tape mod?

Anyone know the speed of the drives inside these?

Cant find anything online about the tape mod is it the same thing as the 3.3V fix?

    • I'm curious about this as well. Would this work without the tape mod for QNAP NAS?

      • For the three Hdds I got don’t need tape to mod, and I am using nap.

        • how easy is it to shuck one of these open? anything I'd need to be aware of?

  • I'm wanting one of these to install in my gaming PC, any potential issues with this shucked vs a Seagate Barracuda Internal Hard Drive? This seems much better value.

    • +1

I believe these are 5400rpm most bara drives are 7200rpm (faster read depending what your using it for of course)

Normal use wont notice to much of a difference

  • In for 1… together with the 3 I ordered from last time, I'll finally have enough drives for now. And hopefully for at least another two years or so

  • +1

Reddit says 10tb version went from cooler helium filled to hotter air filled.

What's the news on the 12tb and 14tb?

    • +3

12TB and 14TB are still helium for now.

  • bought 2 - thanks

Anyone after WD RED proper, Amazon just dropped the prices:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/572987#comment-9446250

Hard to swallow after seeing these all in ones though.

  • +1

I'm still preferring the 12TB Wd_Black D10 Game even thought its smaller and more expensive - silly me.

    • +1

I made the same choice, not silly at all

      • Ditto, lets all join the not silly club

    • If you're using it inside the enclosure that's a better option since it has an active cooling fan

  • Good deal - Bought 6.

    • +1

      How so? Two separate accounts?

      • Yup - two seperate accounts

  • So Cheap! $21/1TB

  • Thanks OP - my wife just bought 3 for her business

  • Just bought mine… desperately needed a new drive for my media server - this should do the trick (once I shuck it)!

  • Thanks OP. Hopefully this one doesn't die whiles transferring files, like my WD 10tb. I think I just got unlucky last time. Great price per tb

  • I first bought one, then convinced myself to buy a second one.
Just got shipping notification of the second one, but first one isn't shipped yet.

I thought Amazon would combine in one package.

    • So odd. Second order dispatched. First order still no movement.

      • I've still had no movement on my order. I've ordered two, and Amazon keeps saying "they're at the advanced stages of shipping"

        • No movement on the first one I bought, the second one (which I bought a day later) arrived.

  • Looks like the deal is over? this pricing isn't showing up on the amazon listing any more.

    • Looks like it, I just went to try and buy more but no luck :(
Seems the best $/TB are the 12TB ones now

  • Do you think a good idea to shuck this on a QNAP nas (no raid)?

No important files, just to save linux iso…

    • Why wouldn't it be a good idea? The drives inside these are good drives.

  • its' back in stock…. go go go

  • and gone

  • Anyone elses second order shipped but first order still nothing?

    • Yep same. Second one has shipped. First order still waiting to ship…

  • My delivery estimate is nov-11. I feel like i ordered from aliexpress.

I though amazon does quick delivery and they also have the promotion of expedited international shipping.

Is this normal delivery speed when ordering from amazon UK?
I can see the status is Shipped: Oct15
But estimate arrival in Aus is Nov-11

    • International shipping is slow everywhere at the moment. Due to limited planes flying, air freight costs have quadrupled and even then not everything is being shipped and the only way to really ensure that something goes as quick as possible is to pay for the highest level of service (which I doubt amazon is, so regular air freight it goes)

    • Amazon tells you exactly when to expect delivery, when you place the order.
Right now they're saying "FREE delivery: 4 - 9 Nov" for this particular item - what did it say when you ordered ?

      • Around oct 21-26 when i order (i think?)

        • It'll probably arrive before the 26 then - Amazon's delivery windows are usually pretty good !

    • It usually get delivered before that date. From experience they always inflate the delivery date. It usually comes 1-2 weeks earlier.

    • mines the same ship date but arrival nov 13 if it makes you feel better ;-)

    • I found a way to track AP111111 codes. Go https://apgecommerce.com/tracking select Order number but paste AP1111111 Id. Mine just shown "Shipping information received by APG" after three days.

  • A week after and it's still not yet dispatched…

    • immediately ordered 2 when sale started. Same situation. Not yet shipped. Amazon came back to me saying they are sourcing it from other fulfillment centers as there has been a huge demand on this item.

i was surprise to see other people that ordered single units already had theirs shipped with tracking last week.

      • Maybe they are waiting for WD to send them extra stock…🤦🏻

        • first read 'Maybe they are waiting for WD to send them …back'

    • My first order is in the same situation. The second order was shipped within 24 hours. When I spoke to Amazon, they said my second order was from a different warehouse and my first order was from another warehouse. So based on that, I think my first order must have been assigned to a warehouse which had a lot of orders allocated to, and they ran out before they reached mine.

    • +2

      Update:
      No progress.
Rep says still no stock and they are trying their best to source them working with various sellers to procure the product. (hmmm payday for sellers especially those named Jack).
As of this stage they cannot provide an estimate date and the dates given cannot be relied on. Saying this is a rare occasion and are "humbly requesting to give them more time".

      … I'll await. …

    • I’m still waiting. Ordered 2.

  • +2

I received mine today. Didn't expect it within a week from the UK. This is quicker than most domestic deliveries. Wtf?

    • +1

Same me too in sydney. It was basically less than 1 week when usually its 2+ weeks for me. Weird.

    • oh nice! I placed my order on 13/10 hopefully it arrives soon. Who did yours ship with? Mine says AusPost Global and the tracking information hasn't been updated since 16/10

      • +1

That means you'll get it soon. I got my HDD 3 days after that email.

        • Hopefully! APG updated today with 'parcel arrived at the processing hub' still in GB so hopefully next week!

    • How many did you guys order?

      • I ordered 3 and my partner ordered 1 - got the DS920 ready to go just need the disks!

      • betya my order stuck in that Covid riddled hub!

  • Mine says expected: Nov

    • +1

Yeah came, but man these things smell weird

  • +1

Received mine today - 8 days from order :-)

  • Got mine today too (was onboard for delivery yesterday but didn't make the cut I suppose).

No AU plug just to confirm if anyone was wondering.

  • Still hasn't shipped yet. Amazon response from today:

10:31 AM AEDT Avinash: Upon checking the details, I see that the items are sold by Amazon UK at our website and needs to be shipped from UK.

Please understand due to this pandemic situation, there are limited flights running internationally due to which they're facing issues in shipping the orders.

I've checked the status and confirm that your order have already moved to advanced shipping stage and they're waiting for the carrier to pick it up from them.

Rest assured, your orders will be shipped as soon as a slot is available with the carriers and will be delivered on or before the scheduled delivery date Nov 9.

So basically still have to keep waiting.

  • +6

    Man these things smell weird

  • Just clicked on the Amazon product page again, it's now $537.35 and "Arrives: 9 - 11 Nov" which is the same date with my order
So I guess they are just restocking from WD…
