I'm surprised they stock the MX Master 1

  • +2

Is there any significant difference between this Logitech MX Master 1 and it's successors? Casual gamer here.

    • I don't care about 40 vs 70 days of work,
    • Different precision/DPI? Would it even make a difference?
    • MX1 and MX2 have "Smart Shift" scrolls, while MX3 has "MagSpeed" scrolls - can somebody comment on the diff?
    • BT5 and USB-C only in MX3 - not that of a big deal, is it?
    • MX1 doesn't have "FLOW" - drag n drop files across different OSes/computers; I wouldn't need that.
    • +4

      MX1 doesn't have "FLOW" - drag n drop files across different OSes/computers; I wouldn't need that.

If it's same OS (windows) can just use mouse without borders (free)

      • +1

Hi cwongtech, I sent you a PM if you could please check it.

    • +3

New one is USB C if you care about that.

    • +2

MX3's scroll wheel is basically silent, has a boing boing feel to it in ratchet mode and is smoother than its predecessors in freespin mode.
The MX3 shape also has a much more pronounced arch where you rest your palm, and they moved the LED indicator to where you could easily see it.

For $48 I wouldn't have anything to complain about the MX1.

I'm not sure what casual gaming involves these days, but on a 144hz monitor the MX3 noticeably doesn't feel smooth enough to use for gaming and even casually playing shooters with friends feels not great. I think all MX Master mice use 30hz polling for BT and 90Hz for the USB adapter, which is a significant difference with the 1000hz norm for gaming mice like the Xtrfy M4 I use. Not sure if you can feel the same difference with a 60hz monitor.

      • Thank you, you & everyone! I ordered MX1.

  • Never used one, is it really worth it?

    • +15

      You will not look back.

      • +1

using MX Master 2. Only thing is it's heavy

        • +3

That's a positive in my opinion.
Give's it a reassuring weight and precision.

        • If you think that's heavy what do you use?

          • @Caped Baldy: Cheap mice are generally much lighter than the MX. Gaming mice are made really light for reaction times. For generaly use I don't think you'd notice a difference in performance, but people take gaming very seriously.

      • Done! And thanks!

    • Been using an MX1 since release.
I wouldn't be hopeful that the battery in this will hold a full charge since the stock is old, but modding these with a MASSIVE battery is pretty easy if you've got basic soldering skill.

      • Did you follow a guide?

        • +2

Yeah look around for MX master battery replacement guides. There's one that lists which specific batteries will fit. There's two (or maybe more?) revisions of the MX1 though, so it's important to know which one you've got as they have different internal structures.

    • +1

I had two of the similar ones (can't remember the names, but I think they were models that were released before this), they were really really really good.
Bluetooth feature was a nice touch, the wheel felt lovely, it felt so nice in the hand.

I unfortunately had damaged both of them trying to repair the double click issue :(
I hope they fixed that issue.

  • Which is better value between this or the MX3 for $110?
    MX3 Deal

    • +5

This - unless you need USB-C

I have this and 2s, both going strong working fine with great battery life.

  • +14

I can't tell the difference between this and the 2s, but, don't be a fool like me and clean your mouse with isopropyl alcohol - it'll melt the rubberised coating and make it slimy.

    • isopropyl alcohol

      XDD

    • rip, it melted the rubber on my muse wheel

    • +3

If it makes you feel any better, I used isopropyl alcohol to clean my switch until I started noticing I was stripping my switch the matte sheen and colours….

      • It's good on most electronic components, but my new dell laptop said that you must use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the computer and screen, so maybe we are all using the 99% one…

  • Would it work well with ipad pro

    • +1

      Yep can confirm

  • Great price even to just have as a spare. They do last a while but I remember my old one failing eventually (maybe after 5 years of daily use - travelling etc.) and I hated not having one so just had to buy another immediately!

The MX3 is tempting at $110 but I'm not confident I can get one tonight… these ebay 1 hour events often just run OOS quickly. Will still give it a try but locked this in now just in case haha.

    • +4

5 years for 50 bucks sounds pretty good to me!

      • +3

Not to mention these can be used as a tax deduction! Double win

  • Thanks Op… have been waiting for something like this for ages.

  • on a side note - does anyone know how to search for these deals on different amazon stores? e.g UK/US stores.

  • Thanks. I've been waiting for this.

After trying the g703 and found it to be just ok, I might as well go with my original plan and get a cheap mx master.

  • +2

I love these and have one at home and one at work, but, I do find that they fail after a few years of solid use. They aren't as reliable as the old MX revolution which lasted me about 10 years. But, I like them so much that I continue to replace them when they fail.

  • ordered one - hope it's worth it and the battery life is good

  • Great price, but I'm worried about the battery. It's a rechargeable battery and meant to last 40 days, but this model came out 5 years ago so it probably won't hold a charge as well it used to. I would jump on this if it ran off an AA cell instead.

  • I have two of these that are many years old, buying another 2 just for that fresh mouse feeling. (Also just recently the back/forward buttons have gone after I had to open it to fix the under thumb button button getting stuck). But no regrets, these are the one true mouse, and for this price there's nothing comparable.

Note they are on the large side if you're trying to stuff them in a thin laptop case, some people think they're too big, but I have small hands and don't like mice any smaller.

  • Bonza! Got me one as a spare when my MX2 fails. Great mice!

  • Got 1. Thanks OP

  • How does warranty work when coming from the UK?

    • You're buying through Amazon AU, so they will have to uphold warranty. How they deal with Logitech is their problem.

  • My best work tool from 2015. Churned through 8-10 laptops and desktops in 5 years on and off work, but MX paired with every single one.

    • +8

From what you're saying, have you considered MX might be breaking 1-2 of your laptops per year?

      • Ah! Never considered that possibility. :)

  • +1

mx anywhere 2 vs mx master 1

  • I have a couple of these - one for the desktop machine and one for the laptop. I really like the feel and the ability to fast scroll.

Also because you can have three devices linked to it, it is easy to switch over the other mouse if my desktop mouse has a flat battery.

  • +1

This vs the G305 for daily use office and gaming? Similar price points on today's deal.

    • +1

Was just thinking the same thing. Looks like this is definitely targeting more office use (multiple scroll wheels, multi device pairing), while the 305 talks more about accuracy of the sensors and wireless speed. So probably this one for primarily office work, or the 305 for primarily gaming (but either are probably fine for both).

The MX does have a rechargeable battery while the 305 does not, if that sways your decision.

      • Good points, I'd like to add that the G305 is a comically small mouse while the MX Master 1/2 are big mice, Master 3 being somewhere between.

I personally couldn't use a G305 all day both due to the size, ambidextrous layout (much prefer the ergonomic hump for a right hand than a flat mouse) and also because it doesn't have a free spin scroll wheel that is in other Logitech mice. I would prefer it during gaming sessions though when it's all about the claw grip and super accurate sensor.

MX Master is like 125hz polling which is eh compared to 1000hz in the G305, movements are smoother and more precise with lightspeed connectivity. That said for some reason I get lower reaction time scores on the MX master than my G604 by around 20ms when on humanbenchmark.com

        • That’s a good point, studentloan. Small mouses are not too good for working from home. I have the anytime or anywhere 2s mouse, and it annoys me how small the bloody thing is.

  • Can it work while charging?

    • +2

      Yep.

  • Thanks OP, got one as a spare. Great mice.

  • The rubber on mine rotted and depressed a button. I had to break away the rubber.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one.

  • Thanks Op. Bought as a spare :)

    • Willing to part with the spare?

  • Is this worth getting over using something like a Logitech G602?

EDIT: I think it just went out of stock, but I suppose it would be nice to know still.

  • +1

…and it's finally gone. That took a while - Amazon must've had a truck load in stock.

    • Yeah surprised how Long this lasted.

  • Back in stock.

  • Damn, been after an MX 1 forever and missed out on this beauty of a deal, anyone with a spare willing spare? Lol

  • If anyone has a change of heart and wants to get rid of theirs, pm me

    • Check out the link below.

      • Seems a bit small for my hands unfortunately

  • +3

It seems the MX Anywhere 2 is now on Amazon for $48.54 if anyone is interested. https://www.amazon.com.au/Logitech-Anywhere-Wireless-Bluetoo…

    • Sh1t! Was that posted as a deal? I need one.

      • MX Master is better anyway.

        • I need the smaller form factor for portability.

  • Still available. Just bought one.

    • Ehhh too slow 😔

  • Seems to be back in stock but at full price (~$111)
