It's not good value. Using it for flights is much more economical.

      • But…some people accrued points through free credit card bonuses just with the intention to spend it that way :)
        and that's fine too.
We are actually a mix, spend a bit on the store only when on sale + save enough for domestic trips

    • +4

People who don't know value, actually look for those comments.

Its then up to them to decide take if its for them or not.

Someone tell me its not value basing it on the Business class flight. I've looked into it, I'm unlikely to ever take business class as its fees and taxes makes it less valuable.
So I then ignore that comment.

  • I see real deals here.

For example Dyson Supersonic for 76,376 pts (I have 5% club discount). Where are you going to find a better price?

    https://store.qantas.com/au/p/supersonic-hair-dryer/1043994P

    • Depends I suppose as at that rate you are getting 0.72c per point assuming it cost $550 in store.

  • Can anyone see the iPad mini cellular anywhere on the site?

  • +2

Sites is running into all sorts of errors at the moment. Can’t sort, search etc.

  • -1

Use your points they’ve given no leeway over this Covid debacle and will take them within 18 months, business as usual there….

    • +1

Well it really isn't hard to earn literally 1 point within an 18 month period to restart that 18 month period again.

  • No iPhone 12 Pro Max. Does anyone know if it will be added?

    • +1

This comes out in November, along with the iPhone 12 Mini. I imagine it will be added then.

      • Oh thanks. By then the 20% off offer will be gone :(

        • It's a shame! Maybe Boxing Day will offer some respite..

    • why dont you get a 12 pro - sell it and then get your max later? thats what I might do

I think GOLD or BLUE will be the hottest colors to flip

      • I will have to take a hit on selling it. Wont be able to sell it at full price.

  • Missing iPhone 12 Pro Max (and Mini). 😤

  • +1

Apple iPhone 12 points only, can't use points + pay.

    • +1

Yes good pick up, I've added a note. Looked like all iPhones to me.

  • -2

Aren’t points meant to be worth 1c even at the low end?

  • +1

Too bad the iphone 12 mini is not there yet. It would have been a great gift for the wifey.

  • I reckon 20% off on Apple products offers good value. Personally considering an iPad Pro.

    • +1

      not really 20% if point+cash. ipad pro 11 128gb retail price is $1329. Qantas store is 2000pts + 1300.

  • +1

Bad value even with 20% off. I'm going to hold off until maybe Christmas

  • Is the Sonos Beam + 2 Ones a good deal at 2000pts + $1000.62?

Sonos website has this set (SL's though) for $1137: https://www.sonos.com/en-au/shop/surround-set-beam-one-sl-pa…

    • I got 6000 points + $950.51 when I added to cart, pretty good deal and I checked the price at JB as well and it's $1133.

      • Are you adding the One's or the One SL's?
        It's still coming up at $1000.63 = 6k for me…

        • The One SLs

  • +5

I think I screwed up, ordered the iPhone 12 and the iPad Pro. Too much excitement.

    • +2

We've all felt that guilt before

    • How many points did you use? I don't even have enough points for a 64gb iPhone 12 :(

      • +1

        Points only for both, ~420k.

        • That's a whole lotta points..damn, in normal times, you'd get some awesome business/first class return tickets

          • +1

@orly: He would get very close to a first class around the world fare for that many points

            • @mitch21: Haha could you imagine an around the world fare in these times…..two week quarantine at every stop

              • @link90: Hmmm, I have 670K points so far. Should be enough for business class RTW for me and the wife? Or I should be able to accrue more points for first class for two by the time travel restrictions are lifted :P.

                • +5

@docpol: that's basically how I'm treating the points. I've been churning for a number of years now and manage to get 400k+ points per year, not sure how much RTW fares cost but I just make sure I have 200k that gets me to somewhere in Asia return in business (no urge to go to Americas or EU any time soon).

I just don't think it's a great idea to hold too many points given that you don't know what the supply of reward flights will be like post covid, or even the value of Qantas points.

I see a lot of people here talking about how much you could sell points pre-covid, or doing some cents per point comparison. My view of the points have completely changed, I don't think we will ever go back to pre-covid, those times are long gone as far as flying is concerned, and no one really knows what will happen with points or the future of flying. I just know right now I can get a lot of enjoyment out of spending points on things that I would have very likely bought anyways (Apple watch as a gift) and also have enough in the bank to book a flight when it is available (hopefully mid next year).

                  • +2

@link90: that's my approach to. i buy some Apple stuff that i would otherwise think is too expensive, e.g. apple pencil, magic keyboard, airpod pro.

            • @mitch21: Damn near close enough for RTW in first class (short of ~35k points)..would be nice

              • @orly: Thats actually pretty cool, wasn't aware of this. Gonna start applying for a new set of cards ;)

iPhone 12 Pro 256gb sold out? Or is the site just super broken? Every time I search it yields different results.

    • +3

It appears its sold out. I just pulled the trigger on the 128gb model as most other models have quickly disappeared this morning. It’s a redemption value of around 0.7c / point, which in the current climate isn’t terrible value in my opinion. Saves the upfront cost of $1700, which I certainly won’t be spending on flights anytime soon.

      • I think there's a chance Qantas realised they released the iPhone 12s too early (not even Apple has them up yet!) and took them down until 11pm tonight. Keep an eye out I reckon. Or it could simply be sold out..

    • +1

      @unknown it's back up now.

  • Reckon Apple Watch SE GPS, 40mm for 59,680 points okay? Works out to be just 0.72c per point though.

    • iPhone 12 I bought also at 0.72c - better than cash upfront for me at least.

      • What do you mean 0.72c? Points per dollar spent would be the points divided by how much in dollars it’s worth retail?

        • +1

$0.72 per point I mean, so how much it costs Retail (dollars) divided by number of QFF points required to purchase

          • @mynameisvinnie: Gotcha. Thanks for explaining. I was working out how many points $1 was worth. Dividing the other way.

    • I did. Apple se 40mm for the misses.

  • anyone link me to an iphone 12/11? The site doesn't even display any iphones..

    • Looks like they’ve all sold out

      • spewing :(

      • I think the site is just super buggy. Putting in “apple” doesn’t yield results either.

      • The site has gone buggy, I'm getting error pages on searches, or typing "iPhone 12" gives me everything with "12" in it. Searching "Apple" gives no results and searching "iPhone" gives me 7000 pages or none.

15 mins ago I saw iPhone 12s, and now when I finally get Apple only products, the iPhone 12's have disappeared.

        • I think the site's getting hammered

          • @homelessguy: I found Chrome browser is working far better than Safari. I did a quick search just now and only iPhone 11 and iPhone SE are showing as available

        • the site has done this for me for several months. The search and refine functions are both borked, at least on some browsers.

    • I have a hypothesis that Qantas jumped the gun by accident and released the iPhone 12s for pre-order too early. Perhaps they have been called out on their mistake and taken them off for now. As the description says, even Apple's site isn't available for pre-order until 11pm tonight.

I would keep an eye on it and if it doesn't appear across midnight, perhaps they are truly sold out.

  • You can't really tax deduct a work use phone bought with frequent flyer points can you?

    • If only you paid taxes on frequent flyer points…

  • Are the iPad Mini's worth it? Points wise and latest version?

    • Nope, they were released in March 2019 so it's very old tech at this stage. I bought an Apple Watch instead and will sell it on FB Marketplace. Should help fund the new iPad Air.

  • +1

I couldn’t justify the points to pull the trigger on a phone but I picked up a case, mag wallet and MagSafe charger for about 30k points. Pretty happy with that especially if delivery times don’t blow out!

  • all iPhone 12 phones and accessories are gone. Hopefully they don't cancel or take forever to deliver.

  • +1

I have 0 points. Can I buy stuffs from Qantas rewards site?

    • Nope, need a minimum of 2k points

  • Two weeks ago, I got two return flights Perth-Karratha for $160 + 48000 pts..

Same flights were around $800 return at the time.

  • +1

PSA - Still waiting on my TV order from August from Toll. YMMV

    • Did you call Qantas?

      • Emailed them yeah. They said they emailed Toll for me but nothing has come of it yet.

  • Good deal. Redeemed all my points for 2 SE 44mm and 1 SE 40m. 2k left for the next deal.
Not expecting to fly anytime soon so better use them before they expires.

  • The iphone 12 is most definitely not "back on the site"

    • +1

They were (albeit briefly) just after 11pm AEDT, but have now once again disappeared! Quite confusing

  • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573962 <- this might help someone.

  • +1

Doesn’t this cost $100 for an account?

    • +7

Hand over your ozbargain badge if you’re paying for a qff membership

  • How often does the Qantas store do this promo? Annually or is this the 1st time ever

  • I still have iPhone 12 pro 128gb in my shopping cart and can check out to purchase.
I have iPhone XR, should I get this one?

    • All depends on what you use your phone for. If you don’t think you’ll benefit from the 3 cameras and 5G in particular, you may be best just keeping your XR and saving your points. Remember, you’ll need to also upgrade your case and charging plug.

    • I am afraid you don’t have a choice any more, you won’t be able to check out for your iPhone 12, as those aren’t available anymore on Qantas site.

      • It’s still there in the checkout. Can complete to purchase but not sure the order can be eventuated.

        • It won't, this is what I got with the Pro I had sitting there:

iPhone 12 Pro 256GB does not have enough stock, please update quantity or remove one of item

  • If anyone wants a iphone 12 but too late, I have a green colour 128gb iphone 12 to swap with your 198,816 Qantas points (what I paid for).
Wife changed her mind wanting a pro after the order, and Qantas dones't allow cancellation :(
It will be shipped on 9th of Nov.

    • If it was Blue or Black color, I would take it. Check with Qantas if they can at least change the color.

      • -1

        Will do and revert.

      • Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately my wife has changed her mind to keep the order, apology from my end.

    • Curious to know if you've had an update on this order? I got the 128gb iPhone 12 Black, still says 'Processing' ..

      • I received accessories yesterday (Magsafe chargers and phone cover).

I spoke to them and they said my actual phone was still another couple of weeks away (Pro 512GB) even though it also updated to processing yesterday. Expected delivery was originally 9th November.

        • Thanks for the intel! Mine has been processing for at over a week now, guess I’ll wait it out

  • my apple SE watch is out for delivery, looks like it's coming direct from apple as I received a text message from the apple store saying it'll be delivered today. happy days!

    • Same here! Got a text just then. I just ordered it on Saturday. Quick turnaround time!

    • Yes, same! Super fast shipping direct from Apple

    • Same, but when I clicked on the link in the SMS, I wasn't able to see the progress on the delivery.
Was anyone else able to track the progress of the delivery?

      • Yep I had no problems. Delivered on the day of the sms.

        • Ah, turns out the courier couldn't deliver to a parcel locker. I've had to redirect it to a different address - will arrive on Monday.

  • Contacted qantas, magsafe charger eta mid late November

    • 23rd October mine still says… did you ask about iPhone too?

      • +2

Mine still says 22nd Oct . I didn’t ask about iPhone
