  • Purdy. Would love to see the build you used this in.

goes great with the unicorn case!

they're actually more popular than you think, looks really nice especially on something like an O11 with double glass panels

  • can you paint them using water colour? then coat them with uv protection spray?

This is a very disappointing product unfortunately. The RGB strips are basically just a set of extra wires on top of the 24-pin which makes it very difficult to work with and the bare white wires are actually visible in some angles. And don't get me started on the stupidity of pricing on RGB products from all the PC manufacturers. The whole RGB market is a scam

It's pointless lighting, what do you expect?

      • +9

Define point. If you have your PC with a window and on your desk, you want it to look pretty. We pay a premium for aesthetics everyday for tens of things. I don't understand why people categorise RGB any different.

My issue is the markup these companies charge for their RGB products which are ridiculous. I build RGB'd out PCs every other week and I bulk buy RGB wires, connectors, etc … and build my own

I just keep my computer under my desk. You get more desk space as well as not paying for lighting computer parts.

@Diji1: Hey not commenting about RGB vs non-RGB, but if you have the computer under the desk then I hope your computer is raised off the floor - at least 10-15cms with some sort of platform somehow. Have been tasked with "solving computer instability issues" and "too much loud fan noise" which ended up being way too much dust in the heatsinks/fans blogging the whole thing down. Turns out a lot of people put their computers on the floor and use them, pretty much every single person that came to me with that issue seemed to have been doing that!

            • @aaronsd: This is totally case and airflow dependant… Keep a nice positive pressure in your case and it'll keep itself pretty much dust free.

You mean stick on a dollar worth of LEDs and IC, a "gaming name" tag then double the price?

    • I have resisted getting anything RGB related so was wondering what this STRIMEr cable was for

What I've always wondered is why are these all extension cables and not just designed to plug directly into a modular PSU? I've bought braided extensions for looks and although they're nice it's a pain to hide 3/4 of the extension which isn't visible behind the motherboard tray/shoved at the bottom near the PSU.

    • Corsair makes them to replace the cable included in the PSU entirely, looks nice, but you would also need to buy extra Corsair cable combs as well which is around $40, so definitely not cost effective from my experience

    • Yes this is annoying having to hide half of your extension cables in addition to your current cables especially on a modular system you got fpr the sole purpose of not wanting to have cables cluttering up your system.

Unfortunately the reason for sleeved "extension" cables is due to manufacturers not having the same pin out configuration on the PSUs. This can cause power delivery issues or possibly damage your components if you plugged them straight into the PSU. (Also the same reason you should never use modular cables from one PSU to another PSU).

The other alternative is to buy a PSU with sleeved cables (maybe not individually sleeved) to suit your needs or find a manufacturer like Corsair that does sleeved cables specifically for some of their PSUs.

If all manufacturers could just agree on a standard and use this, things would be so much easier for us modders. :/

  • While these look cool, they are very flimsy and the rubbery RGB strips break apart easily.

  • Are these work for all types of modern modular psu?

    • Yes

    • +1

The other end does not plug onto the psu, it plugs onto the motherboard cable coming from the PSU. Think of it as an extension. Plus it is really really short, length is enough to plug onto your motherboard and then disappear on the cable management slot on the case.

      • Yeap I know that, thanks. I just wondering if any cable incompatibility could hurt the psu.

  • Will the gpu cable be compatible with a 3080?

    • +1

if it only has 8+8 pins, yes. Otherwise No.

    • Will not work with the founders edition but should work for the AIB's

  • +2

Love for RGB is a pretty niche taste, most people don't see value in it. But I bought both cables, I'm glad there's someone out there keeping an eye out. Hopefully the GPU cable will still be usable when I upgrade but thanks :)

  • 🤔

  • Cheaper than Aussie retailers but dearer than AliExpress.

    • and its way more faster than AliExpress.

      • I just bought from these guys for the first time, and 5 days later they're yet to ship me something which was advertised as "order now to ship today" on their website.

  • damn, it is even cheaper than I bought them from China…
I paid $120 for 24pin cable + GPU cable and $55 for another 8+8 pin cable since I am going to get a 3080 with 3 x 8pin and i am still waiting for the shipping :(

    • How ya going to halve the 8+8 pins for the third input?

      • i have no idea actually, the salesman told me to buy 2 of those 8+8 pin …

        • +1

You should cancel that one and order from here.

  • +2

I put both of these cables in the PC I built myself a few months ago. They're absolutely ridiculous and garish, which is why I love them.

  • Why pay extra for such a cable when the money could go towards a 3080 or RDNA2 or 3200 CL14 RAM?
