This model is not made in Germany, right?

    • +1

No. PRC, but comes with EcoSilence Drive, unlike the cheaper models.

      • Rookie question, is EcoSilence Drive something that makes it very quiet?

        • Brushless.

But kinda irrelevant coz noisy is usually from water puming in/out.

    • I think only models with WAW are German made. Correct me if I'm wrong

      • +1

Series 8 (waw) and Home Professional (way) models

    • +1

Bought washer and dryer german made, and dishwasher. honestly i can't tell the difference apart from the feeling that it is 'over engineered' lol.

bosch dishwasher i have has annoying red light shining on floor because it is so 'silent'. an led saying when it will finish would have been nice…..guess someone forgot to include that in the blueprints…..

the LG korean designed, made in china was a lot easier to use, still going strong. got a f&paykel washer at parents, 12 years still going strong.

if you want good german, get siemens. bosch is like budget mainstream german. sometimes you're better off with the koreans for simplicity.

    • Probably Thailand.

  • Is 8kg good for a family of four? Also, how energy efficient is this bad boy?

    • +1

I have a bosch 8kg bought more than 14 years ago, still going strong. 8kg is more than enough for 4 person.

      • 8kg is good for 4 people. ALso sub $1k = made in china

      • +1

your correct. im just saying 8kg a few years ago isnt 8kg in todays models.

5 years ago I had an old Samsung 7kg ozbargain special machine, which was bigger than what they call 8kg in some models today.

always worth going into the store to check (obviously hard in todays climate)

        • +6

The amount of weight that the drum can carry doesn't always correlate with the volume of the drum. Ideally both specs would be advertised.

    • +1

The 7.5kg version (WAN22120AU) has been fine for our family of four. My kids are little but they do go through a lot of clothes. I'd highly recommend it.

      • -8

Wrong. Bought 8.5 kg 2 years ago for around $925 . It wasn't on sale as well. Clearly says made in Germany.

        • +3

What part of their comment was wrong?

          • +2

@Chickenleg: "ALso sub $1k = made in china"
            Maybe just a wrong reply.

    • About $70 a year using VIC average energy pricing.

    • +1

Bear in mind that the capacity varies depending on the program. For example, the delicates program might have a maximum of 4kg.

    • yes, load every week

  • The German made model comes with a 10 year manufacturer's warranty on the motor.

  • German model starts with WAW

  • Can someone explain why people love front loaders? We have one now and it's shit compared to the top loader we used to have.

    • +27

We have one now and it's shit compared to the top loader we used to have.

Maybe you bought a shit front loader.

Front loaders wash better an use less water and power than a top loader and are gentler on your clothes.
Main downside is the wash cycle is slower, unless you Speed Queen. Shame Maytag no longer exist here. We had one for about 15 years. Washed faster and better than any top loader.

      • +2

This one has a "quick" mode of either 15 or 30 mins. Not sure about result tho.

        • +3

Probably restricted to a smaller washload and requires clothes not to be too dirty… Basically freshens up the clothes a bit.
Our Miele has a fast cycle too, but we never use it.

          • +2

@jv: Appreciate your bi-annual useful comment jv, my baby

        • 15 minute is meant for 2kg and 30min for 4kg from memory

      • Also you need to buy quality front loader. Cheap ones will leak after a few years. The seal softens up and leaks. Usually just out of warranty as well

Also the other problem is they also starts leaking where you put the washing powder and softener

Once they start to leak the bottom will rust

        • +2

that means incorrect maintenance, if you leave the door open after wash the seal will last a long time, and no mould build up too

          • @lgacb08: Not really cheap ones just have crapp quality seal

          • +1

@lgacb08: And wipe out the puddle of water sitting at the bottom of the seal, otherwise you get localised mould there.

    • what dont you like about it?

FWIW Im into my first too… just running its second load.

    • +1

Top loaders use more water, but are quicker. Front loaders use less water and are gentler on your clothes. Surprisingly not that much different on overall running costs. That might be a result of needing to spend a bit on a decent front loader to get a good un. And you really need one with a big drum.

Top loaders can’t be beat if you have a horde of active children. Mainly because of the time it takes to do multiple filthy loads.

Singles and couples a front loader is better because it is gentler on your no doubt more expensive clothes. It also helps to make your laundry more stylish as it fits nicely under a bench.

      • The only thing I want to know is how to remove the sand on kids clothes. This has always been an issue

        • I have young children and sand is the bane of my existence. With the 7.5kg model that I have, the sand seems to go away. Shake as much as you can off first. You could also try using a dryer (cold/airing setting) and hopefully the sand will collect in the lint filter.

        • +1

For me it usually gets trapped in pockets and stuff, you have to shake that out before you put it in the washing machine…I don't think a top loader or front loader will help with pocket sand.

          • @John Kimble: Yeah as much as I shake their clothes, there's always some left and I have no idea how to clean the washing machine. I thought it would damage the machine or clog the pipes

            • @neonlight: The manual should show you how to clean out any filters. Otherwise, YouTube?

          • +4

@John Kimble: Why would you want to get rid of pocket sand… What else would you use to defend yourself?

    • Top loaders don't seem to wash very thoroughly for me. I was often seeing residue of laundry powder on my clothes. If you think about it, a front loader is throwing your clothes up and down, whereas a top loader is mostly moving the water around.

      • I've found the residue really depends on what detergent you use - bought Cold Power liquid detergent a fortnight ago and it's leaving residue on black clothes, whereas the Biozet I was using previously had no issues…

      • +1

I only use liquid detergent for this reason regardless of machine.

      • I was told by the laundromat lady that the residue is also due to overloading the top loader. Try put less clothes in and see if it makes a difference?

    • Typically front loaders use a lot less water, less likely to damage clothes (due to no agitator) and uses less energy. Downsides are that they weight a ton and you cannot add clothes mid-cycle.

      • Samsung has a model that allows you to add clothes anytime you want without pausing.

        • Samsung AddWash has a separate smaller door for adding items at any time.

F&P also allow you to add items mid-cycle but it isn't instant like in the Samsung's (even though this video suggests otherwise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LsN9D4JorE&feature=emb_logo). It will remove the water first and then allow you to add items.

      • My Bosch - not sure about this model - will let you pause the wash to add clothes. I assume it won't pause if the machine is full of water, and if the cycle is far enough along that there's no point. But every time I've found that odd sock that I dropped when loading I've been able to pause and add it in no problems. The Samsung solution looks like unnecessary faff that adds complexity and failure modes.

    • What do you mean by "shit"? The two downsides to front loaders compared to top is that getting clothes out is harder and that you need to leave the door ajar to stop mold from developing on the seals.

  • Could stack with 10% off in VIC?

I have the 10kg version - much faster than the old LG 10kg one we had.

    BUT

as with all these units …

The weight claimed is only available on one wash cycle, at full speed/time. Put it on the faster wash cycle and it drops quickly, usually halves to start, then worse.

One cycle on my 10kg can only do 2 kg …

    • Totally agree.. 10 kg never actually does 10 kg wash but about 5 kg. Simpson top loaders, (Oz made) were the best !

    • +6

Who’s weighing their washing before putting it in…

      • I dont even do the washing but as far as I observed, its a thing based on….

can i wash a typical load that includes say a queen sized quilt cover and a few clothing items and not overload the machine?

i guarantee you're going to have hard time washing say a king sized sheet, cover pillowcase and that stuff on a small washing machine

so 7-8kg seems to be fine for even larger loads

        above that is commerical.

  • +6

Hey guys. Just a heads up. Yes this is technically 8kg but it’s not really. The drum is quite small, I was about to buy this but compared to the 9kg it was quite a bit smaller.

Even compared to other 8kg machines in different brands it’s quite a bit smaller - few reviews mentioned this.

If your ok with a slightly smaller capacity this is great.

  • +1

Any recommendations on a dryer to go with this?

    • i did a bit of research. there is a bosch model that ends in 66 that seems to be good (I have it on order). most of the bosch dryers rate well i think.

    • Look at the Esatto that was posted on OB. Reviews are good.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/575032

  • I'm on a budget now, and our second hand appliances store experience was disaster. Washing machine replaced 4 times on 1 year warranty so I'm bit hesitant for second hand +5years old washers on gumtree.

Any comment for Solt 6kg Front Load Washer
    GGSFLW60? Should I stay away like Kogan's?
It drops to $431 for victoria +5% gcs drops to $410

    • +3

I would pay just a little more and grab the bosch over solt, kogan, etc. Its not worth it skimping on things like washing machine, fridges, etc. In my experience, you end up paying a lot more by buying those elcheapo brands.

    • +1

look at the Electolux 7.5 kg machine, very quiet and very very simple to use. just note the7.5kg is not for mixed washing. If it held more washing I'd have kept it.

      https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/electrolux-75kg-…

I ended up swapping it for a 9kg LG machine, also very good used ti for first time tonight… very happy

you missed the 15% off good guys sale 2 week ago

      • There is only me and my partner living in the house so I think 7.5kg capacity will be just enough for us (obviously i wont go for 5kg one, like a toy) thanks for the advise. Probably will hunt for a known brand machine for a week. I hope I can catch a good deal till next week 🤞

        • +1

If you can find out where Appliances online take their returns, mine was unused… still cost me a 20% "restocking" fee.

    • Hi Cpt Archer, Residentia Rep here (distributor of Solt in Australia). The Solt 6kg Front Load Washer currently has a 4.5 star rating from 190 customer reviews and offers quite a good specification (1400 RPM spin speed, 2.5 star Energy, 4 star WELS, 15 Wash Programs, etc). It's backed up with a 2 year in home warranty for peace of mind and there are warranty extension options available from The Good Guys and JB HiFi (stockists). This product is manufactured in China however by one of the world's leading laundry manufacturers who makes for a number of leading brands. I hope this helps give you some comfort.

We have the German one and my two complaints with mine is that it has no prewash function, apparently that's for a higher tier model (figured for 1K, we would've had this) and that it pools water in the seals (nothings blocked, common complaint).

Apart from that, its silent and washes and dries clothes really well.

I also didn't like the door quality and the quality of the drain plug but it seemed the quality has tanked over the years and only Miele seemed to have a nice door.

    • which model do you have? the german 8kg one?

  • I bought this one as my previous LG started to shake a lot. I was very happy with my LG and wanted another LG but could not resist the lower price. Few things I want to point out. Agree with some other comments about drum seems smaller. There is only cold water inlet. The power cord is really small. I bought this in a hurry as I needed a replacement urgently. In hindsight, should have done more research :).

    • +1

There is only cold water inlet.

I have never seen a front loader with anything different to that

      • My previous LG had both hold and cold water inlet. Maybe bosch only do cold water inlet.

        • That's the first time I have heard of it on a front loader.

I have been told that they don't have hot water inlets because they don't use as much water so it's easier to heat cold water than it is to take it from a tap where a large amount might be cold due to it sitting in the pipe.

And as they have a longer cycle time they need to keep the water hot so still need a heating element

          • @spaceflight: sounds logical to me but yea, other machines do offer hot water inlet as well.

  • spend the extra to get made in germany!

  • +1

We went in to buy a Bosch but all of them have quite a small door. Ended up buying an Fischer and paykel wh1260F1. Quite a bit more expensive than this one but a nice big door for 12kg wash. Also has automatic detergent delivery which is a revelation.

  • +1

Got the same model for 2 months, it is pretty quiet, clean well, doesn’t use much energy/water. Only complaint is the small drum, especially the depth of the drum. I don’t think it can fit 7kg+ clothes inside the drum.

  • Got a mid-range Bosch 8KG front loader(made sue it's made in Germany!) from Appliances Online 2 years ago. Never a problem using it every second day for 18 months and now everyday for 6 months.

We only had 2 problems which are user faults. A dollar coin slowed the pump out but I managed to follow the user manual and cleared it. Also don't overload it because a 45 minutes wash will become 60 minutes+. It's better to wash a proper load twice.

    • Never a problem using it every second day for 18 months and now everyday for 6 months.

      You do laundry every day???

      • Not that we want do laundry everyday but we have no choice now that our family size had literally doubled. Energy bill also doubled too.

  • just use febreeze, its cheaper
