My thoughts too. If your battery health is poor then perhaps replacing that?

      • +1

Nah now that I think about it, my issue is that I've run out of memory with a 32gb. Too many damn videos and photos. I can't add memory can I?

        • Nope. You can purchase lightning<>USB drives

          • @[Deactivated]: Oh that's super interesting. Did not know that existed. So do people just walk around with that thing and their phone or do they plug it in when they need something from it like photos?

My 7 is fine but if I can replace the battery and memory then I reakon it could last me another few years. Those two things together is what makes it lag sometimes I think (also maybe dropping it every now and again.) I've had it for 3 years already.

            • @kanmen: I think people would plug it in when they need things on it, like videos on a commute or something. I’d imagine having it connected all the time could get frustrating if it pops in/out the port in your pocket/bag.

            • @kanmen: Cloud storage would be the next best option, ~$1.5 per month for 50 gigs on iCloud or could get free unlimited google photos storage if you don’t mind google analysing all your uploads.

              • @chankaran: $1.50 per month? idk why I thought it was much more than that. That's actually not too bad at all.

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: Or much cheaper/convenient micro SDs with compatible phone ;)

            • @taki: That would be convenient, yes.

            • @taki: I don't think my phone has a micro SD slot does it?

  • Is the iPhone xr dropping in price aswell?

I'm looking to buy my dad a new iPhone, but don't really wanna buy a phone that looks exactly like his iPhone 6 lol

    • It starts at 849 for 64gb and 949 for 128gb. Or the 11 starts at 999 for 64gb.

  • "This means that the iPhone SE isn’t “faster than the fastest Android phones.” In fact, this particular aspect of the performance is 20% down compared to leading Android phones."
Quoted directly from the linked article and referring to multi threaded performance testing.
I'll happily admit to being a Nexus/Pixel fan boy but not so close-minded to rule out looking at one of these as a replacement. I just couldn't get past the screen size or lacking full HD. I'm also kind of stuck on having stereo front facing speakers on my phablets too.

Bang for buck it is probably very slick and the UX no doubt quite good. It was just easier to stay with what I was used to. ~10% price drop can't be sneezed at.

4.7" and 'less than HD' screen?

It looks bad on a spec sheet but it’s a full RGB stripe LCD display with a PPI of over 300. It looks fine.

      • +1

Lol @ RGB stripe LCD and it looks fine in the same sentence. Does it tho ?

        • You realise RGB stripe means more right? More subpixels than a PenTile OLED.

A 300PPI LCD has the same number of subpixels to a 450PPI OLED.

          • +3

@tp0: A torch also means more light. Doesn't mean it's any good.

  • +2

The chin and forehead seem so dated for a 2020 phone. I only buy iphones to flex tbh and this old design makes it look like I own an iphone 6 or something.

You can’t play any on it.

    • It got banned from the apple store last I heard. So, no

      • And their Apple dev account was revoked too…

    • But you can on Androids

  • cancelling Vodafone

Wait… Voda still exist here? How many times have they been close to exiting the market in Oz? Haha

  • As much as i love apple eco system, I have to say that I'm tempted to buy this device only because it's from Apple and on this price, what I'm not able to overlook is this phone is a 4G device.
Seeing the 5G data plans getting cheaper day by day, I just can't let go the fact that this device isn't future ready.
I know this doesn't apply to all, and is a great option for kids and non techy adults and also at great price point to enter the apple eco system.

    • +2

4G isn’t going anywhere for at least half a decade. You’re safe.

Edit: if this was 2022, then I’d say you have a point.

Edit 2: This page has info on 3G phasing out. There’s dates in there like 2024, so 4G phasing out will be some time away!

Antutu scores can’t be compared cross platform. Geekbench 5 can though and the single core speed speaks for itself.

      • +1

The world moved to multicore for a reason.
Single core performance is a number on a paper. Looks good … Doesn't mean shit.

        • +2

Single core performance is a number on a paper. Looks good … Doesn't mean shit.

I love when Android users think they're tech experts (some are, but simply owning Android doesn't make you one. Just like simply owning an iPhone doesn't not make you one). Both single core and multi core performance is important. It's about balance.

          • @PainToad: And I'm guessing you being an iPhone user are an expert in this area ?

      • -1

How do you run PiP on single core?

    • my s20 fe didn't come with akg earphones. in fact no earphones at all.

    • You forgot to include the conclusion

In the end, it manages to get over the finish line ahead of the S20 Ultra, but that seems to depend on where you draw that line.

  • -1

Looks like Apple fans are satisfied with 4.7inch!

  • Hope the prices drop further soon. Love the banter

    • It’s like Ford vs Holden fans. Or Port vs Crows fans, etc…

  • +2

Nice move by Apple, it’s actually a blessing in disguise because the $29 20W charger is way better than the rubbish 5W wall wart they used to include in the box.

That said, it’s the RRP, so not really a bargain.

I upgraded from a 7 to an SE2 and I’m perfectly happy with it.

    • I don't see anything wrong with the 5w chargers I have used 4 generations with 5w and no issu
More wattage in the charger means decreased battery lifespan

  • +2

Edit: Android fanboys who clearly can’t keep up with tech news, see here

I mean you're also forgetting that other Android phones with the similar hardware hardware to the S20 Ultra also exists, and tend to be around the same price as this with better hardware in other ways (camera, screen, etc).

That being said, great deal if you prefer the Apple ecosystem, just not for me.

Just beware that while this phone is fast, the battery is tiny. Real world screen on time is just slightly longer than the 6s. The display is only 4.7" with 720 resolution making this phone not really suitable for media viewing or gaming.

Its fine for occasional light browsing/social media/phone call, but not really recommended for heavy user/media/games.

  • 64GB →128GB +$80
    128GB → 256GB +$170

    Well done apple.

At least they didn't skip 128GB this time, that's a plus.

  • I still have an iPhone SE 1st gen. Maybe it's the time to change

    • This deal was posted using a gen 1 SE :)

The budget phone that matches and even out performs Android flagships twice the price is now even cheaper!

Edit: Android fanboys who clearly can’t keep up with tech news, see here: https://www.androidauthority.com/iphone-se-vs-most-powerful-…

You can easily cherry pick a cheap android phone and compare it with the iPhone 11 pro Max and make the same case (if not better).

But of course, we all know that the processing speed isn't all there is to a phone nowadays, so I'm not sure what you're trying to prove

  • Good value for money phone for people who want processing power? Definitely.

"The budget phone that matches and even out performs Android flagships twice the price is now even cheaper!"

Yeah… Nah… 2020 is the year Android won mate.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m09b352W8uw

Android was NEVER able to catch up to Apple in the same year before. They were always 1~2 generations ahead. But it has now happened.

Not the best time to go for Apple if you are into processing power. Wait for the A14.

  • With this being the standard price across all the major retailers, I wonder if places like JB Hi-Fi get rid of the older stock first that comes with charger and headphones?

    • I contacted them about that if ordering online. Yes, it will still come with the headphones and power adapter. I assume until stock is depleted.

  • I have and use both Pixel 4 and this iPhone SE 2020 (for work) daily.
I am a preferred Android user, but the iPhone has its perks, it's way more efficient in terms of power when it has much lass battery capacity.
It's fast, thin and light. It's a good budget phone that does most things you need.
It's old skool I'm terms of screen size and design but that's how it remains at a low price point.

However being iOS is its own downside and that may never change, which I guess that's a positive for Apple users that love the iOS.

  • Any deal for Iphone 11 in 128 GB White ?

    Thanks

I have an iphone 8 that I use mainly for work. I use it mostly for (shock horror) calling people and looking at social media when I am bored. I dont take many photos and when i do they are stupid amateurs' photos of normal household stuff, not grand sweeping vistas of a mountain ridge etc. I also dont keep up with phones much. The 8 I have works OK, battery is dying a little I guess but from what I can tell here, if I upgraded for under $500 I would get something with a faster CPU, faster wifi (maybe depending on where I am connected) and a spot for a second SIM. Am I missing something here? Not sure the upgrade is worth it for me, might plod on with the 8 for a bit longer.

    • +1

Not sure the upgrade is worth it for me, might plod on with the 8 for a bit longer.

It’s not. Replace the battery and you’re good to go for another 3+ years.

  • I wonder if anyone doubts that next year Apple won’t release the faster chip ever made and rip everything like it normally does every year.

  • Not bad. Looking to upgrade my phone soon.

    Sent from my iPhone 1

  • Troll!!!!! Love it 😁

I think you're mistaken. There is no such thing as Android fanbois … there is Apple fanbois and … the rest of the world. Fake news, douche-a-reeno.

    • +1

That must be why all these Android fans with zero interest in buying an iPhone come in and extend the comments out to 3 pages. Meanwhile, barely see any iPhone users waste their time on Android deals.

Maybe one day the more hardcore Android fans will realise they’re projecting their view of themselves when making these comments. One day.

"Hey where can I get a charger? Happy to pay $199 for the Bluetooth and gigabytes because iPhone"

    Every apple fanboy right now

  • TouchID? Check.

I got a XR a couple years ago and couldn’t stand FaceID after 2 months. Went back to an iPhone 8 and still using it. Not really sure this is worth the upgrade until they finally bring back TouchID (inscreen?).

as a heavy user of this device and owner since release in aus i can say:

    1. im a heavy user with 2 email accounts (work) recieve a fair few emails, i have a text message based system which reports to me around 100 times a day of building services and i log work/ defects on a client based software i can say that the battery life for me easily gets through 1 day.
    2. dont be fooled that the SE mark means its the size of the original SE, if you thought the iphone 8 (which this is a near on replica apart from the internal hardware)was big then thiis isnt for you, looking at my android hamdset and this it looks nasty with its large bezels.
    3. performance is key, apple do utilise their hardware and cater the software to it which makes this SE pretty robuust, snappy and smooth to use. my daily driver is an android but i do appreciate the efforts that apple go into design and cohegion with software and the hardware.
    4. camera isnt as bad as one thinks only having 1 camera - i was a bit skeptical about this but after using it daily for hours on end i can say in day light and low light it dose a pretty darn good job at it.

in turn even though id prefer android im still happy with the functionality of the SE. when you think at what apple is doing with the SE it makes perfectly good strategic sense for them to make a cheaper iphone which then gives the lower income opertunity to get sucked into the eco system which if executed perfectly can be a hinderance or benifical to the users, this eco system or structure then exposes the users to more of apples hardware and support.

the SE is a great phone for a budget, has all that you need in a smallish package and dosent hurt the bank balance as much as the other iphones.

  • Great deal, while myself will be upgrading from SE (2016) to 12 Mini personally, been waiting for aN upgrade to similar size dimension. Looks like Apple listened to consumer’s cries. Slight milimeters bigger But screen boost of 4” to 5.4”, sold me cumpletely

You can put the a14x into a calculator. That doesn’t make it a better phone or calculator for that matter. Get the Iphone XR, not this piece of shit.
