shouldn't have call it NUC if it's a 3rd party product (not from intel)

    • +2

Incorrect. NUC is not a Brand, nor a trade mark. A NUC stands for Next Unit of Computing, which is a small-form-factor barebone computer kit. It may have been designed by intel, however there are plenty of manufactures who have brough out NUC units, ASUS for one.

But it sure does host an Intel CPU like 95% of other computers on the planet.

These are our own NUC, we have worked hard to bring them to market, they have been in the field now with different CPU's over the last 4 Years and work a treat. We sell hundreds of them. We look forward to continue to improve and bring newer technology into them.

      • +6

Not that it makes any difference but I am 99% sure that NUC is a an Intel only name for a mini pc and is probably copyrighted. I'm 100% sure that Asus will never call their mini pcs a NUC.

        • +2

“Intel, the Intel logo, Intel NUC and Intel Core are trademarks of Intel Corporation in the U.S. and/or other countries.” Says “Intel NUC” not “NUC”.

          • +2

@AlexF: As opposed to Apple iPhone and iPhone? Pretty sure Intel NUC and NUC would fall under the same trademark. Other small form factor PC's are called "mini" PC's. Intel's own version of the mini PC is the Next Unit of Computing (NUC). Otherwise Asus and gigabyte etc would be using that term but they don't. They call their products mini PC's

          • @AlexF: Yep. Get him boys.

      • +4

Can you please give a link on the "ASUS NUC" system?
From my research, NUC is an intel brand, just like you should not make your own CPU and call it core-i5 and promote this name.
I'm happy to be proven wrong

From Wikipedia, Next Unit of Computing (NUC) is a line of small-form-factor barebone computer kits designed by Intel. Is this designed by Intel?

        I found the ad misleading.

      • I see i7 is a TM such as "Intel® Core™" but the intel NUC is "Intel® NUC" without a trademark on the end of the name. They also have "Intel® Iris®" and "Thunderbolt™" with IP indicators on those names. Maybe NUC is a more generic term. I did notice that Asus NUC's are actually called mini PCs so maybe your legal team should investigate. It would be a shame to finally come out with this after all your work and trip on a legal landmine.

        • +1

His legal team are fine. Intel have not registered NUC in Australia.

Other brands calling theirs “Mini PC” is probably more about them wanting to have their own naming convention.

      • +3

Whether trademarked by Intel or not, the NUC name is synonymous with Intel already (it has been 10 generations). The title of this deal appears to intentionally suggest it is an Intel NUC. I think calling it a Compute Your World NUC with Intel CPU would be a more accurate title.

Good on you for launching online properly. I know exactly what would score well with the crowd here: I spotted a few 2070 Supers in there, drop them down to Shopping Express sale levels and I'm sure you'll see plenty of business!

    • +1

Would love too, however we cant obtain the same pricing point they do as they move way more stock than us. We are working hard with our Suppliers to get better deals.
At the moment we can only offer a Gigabyte 480 SSD with a selected 2070

  • +2

Oh the two years kaspersky seals the deal

    • -1

Not only is our 10th Gen NUC the cheapest on the market, yes the 2 Years Kasperky does help sweated the deal when you start to build the entire system.

    • Kaspersky isn’t that expensive… check the software section at https://www.saveonit.com.au/

  • +3

Is this actually a NUC? Is the photo wrong? Is it a custom chasis? There is very little information for a consumer to make an informed decision here.

    • -1

All information regarding the NUC is on the stores description.

These are our own NUC, we have worked hard to bring them to market, they have been in the field now with different CPU's over the last 4 Years and work a treat. We sell hundreds of them.

  • are they quiet?

    • They sure are :) Cant even hear them running.

      • NUC quiet or brix quiet?

  • Sorry if I sound dense, but what makes this so cheap? Is it the lack of ports and memory?

    • No RAM, SSD, Limited upgrades and no win license. They are great if that fits your needs.

For only $30 more you can buy an actual Intel NUC (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Branded-Systems/NUC-&-Mi…)

  • +1

Mwave also has the intel nuc for $530. At least with Scorptec or mwave they provide detailed information. The ‘nuc’ in this post doesn’t mention whether it has wifi, Bluetooth or thunderbolt support like the intel version.

  • +2

Shouldn't call it nuc, especially with Intel in front of it. super misleading

  • Not NUC.
