@Almost Banned: "Police being found guilty of murdering ANYONE have always been rare." Almost as if the system defends police officers who unjustly murder people.

        • what - 7 in the back - 5 in the face - heads stoved in the back of a van etc etc equates with rising damp unless you mean the old racist comedy with rigsby?

          • +4

@petry: To show you how racist the BLM movement is they equate treatment of blacks with treatment of criminals. The Democrats do the same.
The same country that just had a black president elected twice, whose most prominent and well paid athletes are black, who outlawed disciminaton on the basis of race decades ago, and whose favorite personality is a black former talk-show host is systemically racist.
Right - yeah, no-one believes black lives matter.

            • +2

@Almost Banned: The current leader of the US is a white supremacist and a fascist. Rich black people existed during Jim Crow as well, does that mean racism didn't exist back then. Your logic is so stupid it truly baffles me

              • +1

@WinstonWithAY: You calling Trump a white supremacist and a fascist truly baffles me so I guess we're even.

                • +1

@Almost Banned: He's literally trying to rig the election by stopping mail in voting so he can serve another term. He had a literal white supremacist in his administration in the form of Steve Bannon. You need to stop looking at far-right propaganda

                  • +1

@WinstonWithAY: No, he's not literally trying to rig anything.
States choose the manner of their voting - not the President.
Trump is expressing concern that the manner they are choosing is open to fraud. This appears obvious to just about everyone.
Trump has denounced white supremacy more than ANY President in history.
The professional pundits want you to believe that Trump is a white supremacist - but if he is one, he's the worst one in history.
Pre-COVID Black unemployment was the lowest in recorded history, and wage growth amongst the lowest paid was occurring.
On the other hand Biden co-authored a crime bill which increased black incarceration rates, and was responsible for crack cocaine attracting stiffer punishment than powder cocaine - which disproportionately targetted blacks.
As for a fascist - Trump is so authoritarian he has cut taxes, reduced regulation, refused nationally imposed and unconstitutional mask mandates, refused to pack the Supreme Court, refused to add States to stack the Senate, and locked up zero political prisoners. His family are Jewish, and he moved the US embassy to Jerusalem. He was responsible for TWO middle east peace deals, and has started ZERO foreign wars.
                    Yep - that's some fascist.

                    • +1

@Almost Banned: Said there were "fine people on both sides" after Charlottesville. Told Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" when asked to denounce white supremacy. For someone who isn't a white supremacist, he sure finds it hard to denounce it. I also notice you didn't challenge my Bannon point. Why would someone who isn't a white supremacist appoint one as a member of their cabinet?
Pre-covid black unemployment being low is just the ongoing effects of Obama's economic policy post-GFC. Which policy specifically, or policies, has Trump enacted to lower black unemployment, and how much effect did those policies actually have.
He tried to declare Antifa a terrorist organisation, despite the fact they are not an organisation, basically meaning that anyone who considered themselves an antifascist could be locked up. He sent federal troops to black bag and escalate violence against protestors and literally gassed his own people.
"Moved the embassy to Jerusalem." So what? Israel is a genocidal apartheid regime. Also, support for Israel doesn't mean he isn't anti-semitic, a lot of anti-Semites support Israel as they see it as a place they can deport all their Jews.
Trump has approved more drone strikes than Obama, abandoned the Kurds in Syria to the Turks, continues to support Saudi Arabia who are the biggest sponsors of Islamic terror in the world and are currently engaged in a genocidal war in Yemen.
Not sure what cutting taxes or reducing regulations have to do with Fascism. Not sure you know what fascism means if that's the case. He's responsible for the deaths of 200,000+ people due to his bungling of the COVID pandemic. He encouraged anti-lockdown protests that only increased COVID cases. He's held super-spreader events that resulted in the White House having more active COVID cases than the entirety of New Zealand.
"Voter fraud" is a statistically insignificant issue that doesn't affect the outcome of elections. He also literally said he wouldn't concede the outcome of the election if he lost. Republicans love cheating to win, Bush did it too. Republicans and their supporters are pure scum and are amongst the most dangerous people on the planet

                      • +1

@WinstonWithAY: More lies. Trump explicitly clarified his statement about Charlottesville by saying:
“I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.” Keep peddling the same falsehoods though.
Federal troops protecting federal courts is hardly 'black bagging' anything, nor is it 'escalating'.
Calling Israel a genocidal apartheid regime exposes your true beliefs.
If Trump is responsible for 200,000 deaths, then every national leader is responsible for their country's death toll - when did you last criticise Kovind for his 115,000 deaths?
Democrats haven't accepted the outcome of the last election, and won't accept the outcome of this one - but its Trump who is the one who undermines democracy?
People like you calling anyone who disagrees with them scum and dehumanising them is the most fascistic thing you can do, and the real cause for American cities burning.

                    • @Almost Banned: Is that you Donald?
                      Shouldn't you be on twitter?
This sort of rambling, obviously untrue nonsense belongs on that platform.

I will give it to you though, he certainly is "the wort one in history".

        • +1

No evidence? Why are you claiming that? https://www.statista.com/statistics/1123070/police-shootings…

The fact that police are rarely found guilty of murdering anyone is a whole other problem in itself, but even with that aside, these statistics represent a disproportionate amount of fatal police shootings among black americans compared to other ethnicities. This is a problem. It is a complex problem with many causes.

Black Lives Matter means that this is a problem that people wish to address.

          • +1

            @Snakey Chook:

these statistics represent a disproportionate amount of fatal police shootings among black americans compared to other ethnicities.

Really? I question your conclusion. It appears to be based on a naive assumption that, in the absense of racism, shooting rates should be evenly distributed across the population.

This is a grievous error . If you truly followed that poor logic, you would be more concerned that the victims were almost all male. Does that mean police are sexist? Absurd. The fact is that males, and blacks, commit far more violent crime and are more likely to be in a confrontation with police.
Can you seriously disagree with this? I can only hope you just did not think about it.

            • +2

@bargaino: Black on black violence is a huge issue, yes. How is that an argument against systematic change?

              • +1

@Snakey Chook: Manic didn't say anything about black on black violence - which is certainly a problem.
What he did point out is that the more interactions you have with police, the more likely that you will be involved in a police shooting. That is obvious, and why police shootings are not evenly distributed by either race or sex.

                • @Almost Banned: My apologies, yes I misinterpreted.

Yes, black people are having more interactions with police. How is that an argument against systematic change?

      • +2

Except that's not what is happening. If you check statistics of police violence in the US, it impacts all races. The message shouldn't be x lives matters but stop police violence.

In case your comics, stop setting houses on fire.

      • Am I missing something? The house is already on fire so there's no point trying to save it when you could stop it spreading to other nearby houses that are still standing. Therefore this proved that all houses matter.

      • +5

Yes, because people with differing views to your own must be re-educated… sounds like communist China.

      • yet, when people claim "All Lives Matter" they get shouted down by the BLM crowd, you would think one includes the other. If there was a little tolerance for differing views, then everyone's lives could be improved.

I hear this whole "Respect everybody" so much it's a cliché, but I find the people that claims this the most (usually HR departments and Marketing Departments at government organisation and big corporates) more often than not are the least respectful when they are met with with a different (not even opposing) opinion.

        • I have noticed the biggest issue with all of this is people mistakenly view "black lives matter" as exclusionary seeing it as "only black lives matter". The actual message needs to be interpreted from the point of view that based on the treatment of their people feels their lives don't matter to the people in power, so "black lives matter" is now interpreted as "Black lives also matter". The reason they antagonistic to those who chant "all lives matter" is because that is disregarding the message of what they are saying. By applying it to everyone it downplays their issue.

          an example off the top of my head would be;

An extremely run down school is protesting in order to increase funding so they can repair the bathrooms as only one is currently functional. Now instead of trying to help them the other schools who have fully functional bathrooms start advocating and protesting that all of the schools need more funding. While this is true, it distracts from the fact the initial school is in much more need of the money. Then when the first school responds responds negatively the other schools claim that the first school only cares about itself and its pushing for its supremacy over all schools.

Obviously the issue isn't about money but the general treatment felt by that group of people in the case of BLM, but the general ideology of the issue is the same. Part of the issue is a subconscious persecution which is not something that is easy to identify. Another big one is school funding and individual financing works. Schools are funded by local property tax so rich areas have better schools and the black neighborhoods or "ghettos" have worse schools. For financing they take into account current place of living into account, so if you earn the same as someone else but live in a historically bad neighborhood they might deny you the same loan you request as the other person, in turn making it harder to leave the neighborhood to one which has a better school so your kids can get a better education. These issues effect more than just the black community but it is felt more by the black community due to the historic and intense racism against them. This lead to them being assigned to the bad areas and areas where they lived as communities being decided as the bad communities.

At the end of the day the best case scenario is they are wrong and there is no issue which makes them look silly. Worst case scenario is there is horrible discrimination based on race and peoples lives and livelihood is being disregarded. I see no reason to not formally act on the worries of tens of millions of people. Also I believe even in a situation where everything is fair and equal we should all still be pushing for equality and advocating for the equal treatment of all people whether that be day to day interactions or on a larger scale.

It's really quite astonishing how defensive people get in response to this movement. Saying "the system is killing us" isn't attacking you personally, folks. Just stop for a moment and realise the intent is not to make you feel bad or give anything up in your own life.

    • +3

what system exactly is killing whom?

      • +6

you know the all the black lynchings during the OG #MeToo movement where women were accused black men assulted them without actual evidence other than word of mouth

Or perhaps Margaret Sanger starting Planned Parenthood with the aim of black genocide and continues to kill unborn black babies to this day

    • +1

Personally, my biggest issue with the movement it divides us instead of uniting us. People of all races should fight against police violence. If you claim the problem affects just one group of people, then others feel offended, because they are impacted it by as well. A bit less, but as well.

      • +12

I dunno man, that's kinda like saying the Cancer Council divides us because it doesn't focus on alzheimer's.

        • +1

The problem is the message. If Cancer Council was claiming people with cancer matter, people with Alzheimer would be offended by it, because it appears nobody else matters. We should try to solve problems - police violence, criminality, education, and so on, and not make stupid messages who matters or not.

          • @Mistredo: I dunno dude - have you seen the Cancel Council's website? They're acting like alzheimer's doesn't even exist!

      • +4

I think this is a reasonable take you got here. Some have claimed that it isn't "Only Black Lives Matter". However, people had to apologise for saying "All Live Matter" because of pressure from BLM.

I can get behind the movement, however, the movement pays zero attention to black-on-black crimes in black neighbourhoods, which is by far the biggest threat to black lives.

Also, to defund the police, how silly is that, for a few bad cops, it's the same as saying all Muslims due to a few terrorist extremists.

I see it as more of PSA, perhaps the OP wasn't aware of the negative connotations some of the populous has around BLM and now the OP is aware and perhaps better informed on the topic, regardless whether you are for something or against something, it's a good idea to understand the whole argument.

Imagine you are a kid sitting down for dinner with your family and you don’t get any food on your plate. You say “I should get my fair share”, and your dad says “Everyone should get their fair share”.
That is a great sentiment and everyone should get their fair share. You should be part of everyone, and therefore qualify for a share of the food as well. However, your dad’s comment has effectively just dismissed yours and you still don’t have any food.

All these fearful people negging this deal because of political and socio-economic biases is quite sad.

Remember that in any society, a political system is only in place to protect the needs and requirements of the rich, powerful and influential.

We're all over-evolved animals and we're all going to die in the end. We are not exempt from this rule, yet we believe we are here to achieve more than is possible on our finite Earth while destroying the lives of each other and minorities for the sake of feeling superior in some way. The late Capitalist narrative has infatuated people with this idea of constant opposition and competition as if you have to "pick a side" in every situation for no other reason than to feel like you're "right" about something.

Share peace, love and empathy and you'll find more fulfilment than any political opinion, money or anger will ever provide.

  • +8

Where is the deal in something that's always free. Forums at best!

  • +4

I wish to downvote this deal for the following reasons:
    a) "Black Lives Matter" is an admitted Marxist front organisation. Marxism is one of the top five forces for evil in the whole world, in my opinion, therefore I believe "Black Lives Matter" is an evil organisation, despite their carefully designed "motte and bailey" naming convention. https://heterodoxacademy.org/the-motte-and-the-bailey-a-rhet…
    b) In any case, from a purely rationalist viewpoint, black lives actually don't really matter, or at least, no as much as, say, Japanese lives, or Italian lives, or German lives, matter. Because according to the principles of economic science, value is a function of scarcity and supply and demand. So, while the native population of Japan and Italy and Germany is actually declining, the population of Africa is projected by the UN to Quadruple from 1 Billion to 4 Billion by the end of this century: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Africa (it was around 250 Million in 1950)
Overpopulation of humans is probably the most serious ecological problem the planet faces. We can solve this problem though. Stable population with zero growth (among ethnically native people) in Europe and Japan proves this. But if shallow idiots go off all cock-a-maimee about "Black Lives Matter" and "only racists think otherwise", then our planet (and us with it) is doomed.

    • +6

Overpopulation is more or less directly linked with capitalism and inequality. You can't call Marxism evil, then say capitalism is good because "economy" and then close with the overpopulation problem without realising the irony.

      • +2

'Overpopulation' and capitalism are indeed directly linked - but I suspect not in the way you think.
'Wealthy' countries with high standards of living have very low to negative growth rates.
They are predominantly found in capitalist western countries.
'Poor' countries with low standards of living have higher growth rates.
Capitalism has decreased global poverty substantially over the post-war years and contributed to a massive slowing of global population growth.
So capitalism has done more to limit 'overpopulation' than anything else.

    • "all the lives matters" is the worse comparison you can make.
Yes, all livers matter so why people of colour are being discriminated and being killed instead of being treated as equal with the white people?
If you are worried about the population don't reproduce, with this way of thinking, would be a favour to everyone!

        • I think you mistake government structures with economic philosophies

          • +1

@yannyrjl: People are dying as a direct result of a capitalist system. The United States engaged in regime change during the Cold War ostensibly to promote "freedom" and capitalism by overthrowing Socialist regimes, many of which were democratically elected. These are all directly as a result of the need for capitalism to have sustained economic growth, which necessitates imperialism as countries look to poorer countries to exploit their resources. China, for all their supposed "Communist" philosophy, are engaging in imperialism themselves in Africa.

            • -2

              @WinstonWithAY: again, you are mistaken

I think you've built a strawman of what you believe the fallacies of capitalism is to support your argument rather than looking at the economic advantages / disadvantages of both.

When you say many socialist regimes democratically elected, who do you exactly mean?

              • @yannyrjl: Salvador Allende, Jacobo Arbenz, Mohammed Mossadegh, João Goulart, Patrice Lumumba and the list goes on and on. There's a book called Killing Hope which outlines all of this stuff. Nothing I've said is fallacious, it's all factually true. All of the US's rhetoric during the Cold War was to preserve freedom, democracy and capitalism by combatting socialism, which they did not do.

      • +4

I would argue Capitalism has not killed but rather bought a billion out of poverty

        • +2

Same can be said of Marxism using your logic.

          • +1

@WinstonWithAY: disagree, name some countries were due to Marxism, people's lives have improved objectively (I would avoid using Subjective measures as people in North Korea thinks they living pretty well relative to the past)

            • @yannyrjl: The Russian Revolution greatly improved the lives of Soviet people compared to the Tsarist regime. Evo Morales in Bolivia greatly reduced poverty and illiteracy.

              • @WinstonWithAY: When you say Russian Revolution, you mean the first or the second?

yes, Mao also reduced illiteracy, kids chanted "Long Live Chairman Mao", "Our Great Leader Chairman Mao" and they knew how to write it as well

What's your point? Throw some objective long term GDP numbers, you're just making motherhood statements

To back my statement, China's GDP was 30.55 billion (USD) in 1952, taking it to 1982 it was 283.93 billion (USD), over 30 years growing 9.3 times. China's open to the West and to start adoption of "Chinese Style Socialism" AKA Capitalistic economic policies started in the early 80s. So taking the next 30 years, in 2012 it was 8,531.96 billion USD (30 times growth in 30 years)

Looking at it for the individuals, GDPPC in 1952 ($54 USD), 1982 ($282 USD), 2012 ($6,317 USD).

Observing empirically, in early / mid 80s family rarely had television, telephone, private kitchen facilities or private toilets let alone showers and baths. Most families did not have hot water available and needed to boil water in shared kitchens.

Why are you linking comics from a Holocaust denier?

Chief it’s a comic. I posted a comic, I didn’t post anything to do with those views which I disagree with totally. On the basis of those views he’s expressed ok, sorry I wasn’t aware that they were that abhorrent. Apologies

    not a deal — free

  • Why wouldnt they charge people for this ? They can use the money to help black communities and other black chairties. Making it free to me is just virtue signalling from a corporation to a extreme few , so they can see their playstation background that only they can see…Im sure it would of been downloaded more if it was paid knowing it was going to a good cause .

Is BLM a big thing here? Or is it mostly Australian interest in American issues? Genuinely curious.
