YouTube Premium INR ₹129/Month via YouTube India (VPN Required, Single ~$2.48/Month, Family ~$3.64, Student ~$1.52)

5290

Too good a deal not to repost for those unaware you can access YouTube premium at a fraction of the price it normally costs. The stronger exchange rate means even lower monthly rates than last time. Also doweyy suggested in a previous post you can get it even cheaper as a student (certainly worth a shot). Instructions are a direct copy paste from previous deals so kudos to the OPs. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Google has finally launched YouTube Premium in India for INR 129 and Family Membership for INR 189.
Comes with YouTube Music, No Ads in YouTube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions.
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline.
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off.
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app.
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost.

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one, then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore).
2. Click on Paid Memberships (youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link (music.youtube.com)
Example of an address in India:

India
Name: Blank
Address line: My Place
Town/City: Mumbai
Postcode: 400070
State: Maharashtra

      • You have no way of knowing they make any kind of profit in a foreign market.

      • I think it all depends on how many “views/clicks”.India’s huge population helps to get more clicks and more clicks means more revenue for YouTube

    • disadvantage the people in these lower-income countries

      Disadvantaged, how?
I can imagine tighter rules keeping out overseas customers (like what's happening with Netflix Turkey). Can't imagine how a person actually is India will be disadvantaged.

      • Why NF Turkey?

        • +1

They've tightened up. Almost impossible to use a non-Turkey credit card to register

      • In video games, due to key reselling issues outside the region. Russian games now mostly ONLY have Russian text. No English language option for menus, subtitles etc. And multiplayer can be restricted too.

So the lower value of their currency means they cannot buy games at Western prices. But they also cannot play them in English if they prefer, or play games with people in an English speaking country.

Restrictions can be implemented on things like payment methods to lock out foreign purchases. Which again impacts people who might be in a specific place, but paying with a friends card as a gift, or things like that.

Libraries of content can be restricted to make it less appealing to people in other countries, which again removes that content from people inside them.

Just because something doesn't affect you, doesn't mean that other people aren't impacted by it.

    • Yes, the Australia Tax.

Shame YouTube Music is trash and I still need Spotify (also signed up with a VPN).

    • I miss Spotify. The experience of listening to music was just seamless. Youtube music has immense difficulty playing downloaded music in your playlist if the internet just suddenly stops working, whereas Spotify seems to prioritize local files first before trying to connect online music sources.

        • +6

No point - it will soon be dead.

        • +2

i loved play music, but it's dying, so i thought i'd make the painful move to YT Music now

      • Even Spotify is cheaper in India !

    • +1

What country did you use to sign up to spotify? Looking to lower my spending there as i don't use it that much

    • +1

Agree with you -all the AI in the world and it's auto playlists are the same artists/songs it served up last time.

    • yeah I wish they were keeping Google Play Music.
YT Music is just a terrible experience.

    • +1

It actually amazes me how bad the YouTube music app is! How did such a poorly developed app go live! Although I am glad they released an Apple Watch app few weeks back

    • I love yt music. Especially for lesser known and underground artists as it pulls any music posted to youtube. There's songs and artists that don't even show up for me on spotify

  • +7

Not dissing the deal, but youtube vanced provides most of this functionality for free

    Censorship Tube.

    Hard pass.

    • You mean the biased mainstream media?

  • I have no issues with my indian sub on my Premium family account, absolutely worth it for Ad-free YT

  • -3

    I do this without issue

    • -2

LOL The stalker negger following me again

If I guess who it is, will you reply to verify?

      petry? Lol

  • Curious what other services are cheaper via VPN?

    • +1

Netflix and spotify, for example. Netflix argentina is like $10 a month

  • I bet Youtube already realises this and is just biding their time before they force transfer everyone to an Aussie Youtube subscription.

    • +5

at which point we all unsubscribe, and they lose probably thousands of subscribers

    • I'm almost 2 years into doing this no worries. I've well and truly got my fair share regardless of what they're thinking.

  • Sometimes I worry such company as Google might even sneak in here and see what are we costing them and can close the loophole/bargain 😣
Ha ha. Such is power of OzB 😉

    • you may never know :D

  • any free VPN with India option?

    • Try windscribe.

      tunnelbear or hola extension

    • express vpn free trial via phone app.

  • +3

I think the Argentine one is better:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/551174

    • I got an email from Netflix saying that Argentina is about to introduce a 35% tax on digital items, so don't be surprised if theres an increase soon.

"We hope you are enjoying your Netflix membership. Argentina issued a new tax collection rule on September 16, 2020, and your Netflix membership will be impacted.
A tax of 35% will apply to your Netflix subscription. You’ll see the tax as a separate charge on your credit or debit card statement. "

Are people using their primary Gmail accounts?

    • +1

      Yep.
Been going strong for over a year now.

Worst case scenario Google would just cancel the subscription. They love consuming data so they wouldn't ban or block you.

      • Worst case is that Google closes your account for breaking tos, and you lose access to your email, photos, accounts, your digital life…

        • +1

That's if you're using the Google ecosystem :)

      • There seem to be prior cases where Google has shut down entire accounts.

    • +3

I am - but I live for the thrill.

  • So worth it to not have stupid ads on youtube videos!

    • +1

Just download F-Droid app store —-> Newpipe

Why pay for something that breaks user agreement terms.

      • +1

        Supporting creators

        • +1

          And supporting the censorship.

          Youtube really needs competition😭😭

  • What if I already have a paid Australian account? Do I have to cancel that before signing up to this with the same gmail?

    • +1

You should cancel the Aussie subscription. And subscribe with your VPN of choosing. When your Aussie subscription ends it will kick in with the Indian one.

Can this help me get garbage newscorp/murdoch media off my newsfeeds?

    • +1

You can block channels on regular YouTube you don't want to be suggested content from.

I have blocked all main stream media on mine.

Three dot menu when you hover mouse over a thumbail > don't recommend this channel.

  • +1

looks like im indian now boys

  • I tried this in the past, created a new account, used VPN but whenever it comes to entering the credit card details, it blocks the account and says the account needs to be verified, anyone else experienced a similar issue?

  • +3

Been years since I did this - still a hard cold shock when I'm signed out and see an ad on YouTube.

The listen when phone is locked is also an underrated feature (that probably should be free anyway)

  • +3

Or if you're an Android user… Vanced is the way to go.

    • +2

Yep and Smart YouTube TV for any Android TV / Chromecast with Google TV.

    • Is the Vanced app available in Play Store on phone?

      • Download the Vanced Manager apk onto your phone and install the apk. Then install YouTube Vanced from inside the manager and also microG if you want to login with your YouTube account.

        • Thanks.. I thought there was an app readily available. It would have been much easier. Just a noob q- why can't they make a simple app for it rather than having to follow above process?

          • @virhlpool: Wouldn't be in Google's best interest to make a YouTube app with no ads readily available on the Play Store.

            • +2

@BeerCrisp: Google also pushed AdAway (an open-source system-level Android ad-blocker) out of the Play Store about 5 years back, because it helped block ads. It moved to f-droid, so still available but just harder to install.

I've often thought that Google & Apple reveal a lot about their true motivations by what they exclude from their app stores - I'm not talking about malicious or fraudulent apps, I'm talking about apps that people want, that do exactly what they say they do, but which are still not allowed - as usual, just follow the money. For Google it's ad blockers (vanced, adaway), and for both Apple & Google it's things that don't give them their 30% cut (hello, Fortnite). Suggests Google wants to be an advertising and services and data company (with a sideline in hardware sales when it helps their data business), and Apple wants to be just a services and hardware company.

              • @nickj: Yep, these companies all survive off ad revenue, I guess you can't blame them when they're offering 'free' services such as YouTube and Facebook - need to make money somehow. 110% don't agree with the 30% cut for purchases through apps though, that's an absolute bs money making scam that they can just get away with.

Been using vanced for 2 years now but I finally realised why its called vanced…
Its Advanced Youtube without the "Ad"
      Mind=blown

  • Do it people. Works, easy to do and… Just do it.

  • +3

It's so good, I still remember how frustrating the ads were, when I try using incognito mode.

  • +1

Any way we can use google rewards play balance for this?
Got around $40 without much use.

  • I'm already subscribed last time, but been thinking to upgrade to family account, anyone know how?

    • Just apply free Nordvpn account (you have 1 week free without have to enter any payment except for email), VPN to india, then open your youtube account, you should be able to subscript on any plan or upgrade your current plan and they will charge you in INR (India youtube premium rate)

    • I am in the same boat. Already an Indian Premium subscriber and want to upgrade to a family account but can't seem to find any way to do it. If you have any success please let me know how you did it? Cheers.

Can I sign up this way if I use a gmail business account for watching YouTube currently and pay using an Aus address?

  • +1

Only issue I've found is that Youtube and PlayMusic often suggest Indian content.

  • -8

Shouldn't the mods be removing this post as unethical?

    • +1

You commented above stating that you use this service, then say it should be removed as unethical.. isn't that a bit hypocritical?

      • No because he never claimed to be ethical

  • what VPN are you guys using?
I got free data from one of the ozbargain's deal for Windscribe but India is not in the list.

    • +1
