YouTube Premium INR ₹129/Month via YouTube India (VPN Required, Single ~$2.48/Month, Family ~$3.64, Student ~$1.52)

5290

Too good a deal not to repost for those unaware you can access YouTube premium at a fraction of the price it normally costs. The stronger exchange rate means even lower monthly rates than last time. Also doweyy suggested in a previous post you can get it even cheaper as a student (certainly worth a shot). Instructions are a direct copy paste from previous deals so kudos to the OPs. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Google has finally launched YouTube Premium in India for INR 129 and Family Membership for INR 189.
Comes with YouTube Music, No Ads in YouTube as well as Google Play Music.

https://india.googleblog.com/2019/03/introducing-youtube-mus…

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions.
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline.
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off.
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app.
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost.

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one, then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server India (I connected to Bangalore).
2. Click on Paid Memberships (youtube.com), then click on Learn more.
https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Enter Indian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link (music.youtube.com)
Example of an address in India:

India
Name: Blank
Address line: My Place
Town/City: Mumbai
Postcode: 400070
State: Maharashtra

  • my 3 month free subscription ends in few weeks can't wait to try this one out

  • Any help???

    • Are you using NordVPN? Check TA's comment. This worked for others who had issues.

I had the same issue, but ended up using UrbanVPN (free) and was able to complete this without any issues..

  • If I already have Youtube Premium Family, am I able to cancel it and then resubscribe using this method?

My subscription apparently ends Nov 11th. Do I need to wait till then to do this?

    • I followed camsmith12's instructions and even though my family/subscription ended in November too, I was able to cancel > Delete family > Be a member of new family with new subscription (got 1 month free so it pretty much made up for the unused time).

    • I did this last month, cancelled my aus family subscription, and resubscribed to YT India. No changes to family required and everyone just got an email saying it was cancelled, then readded. Didn't have to wait either, it'll just schedule the change of billing to begin the next cycle.

      • Did you have to make a new indian account and then invite the existing people?

  • Buggered if I could get this to work.

Ended up deleting the whole new Google account to avoid extra charges in a month.

Even had Android running Parallels to try and do the Google Play Store step, but with no luck.

    • Yep can't do the Google play store part either

      • +1

I followed the steps from camsmith12 and skipped the Google Play Store steps as I have an iPhone, seemed to work okay as I was able to add all my family members without any issues.

  • Shouldn't there be a wiki page for this?

  • -1

How to get a VPN, can somebody teach please…

  • if adding family members fails due to wrong country this is what i did.

    use VPN as India
Add credit card to payment profile which were India
    Removed the credit card

  • I use argentina YouTube Premium which is cheaper than Indian price. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/551174

  • I've used this for a while. I use on my main account, and no issue with google pay.
I would pay this much JUST to have youtube without adds (I know adblockers etc, but those are hard to set up on every device, ie phones/TVs)

But it obviously also comes with music. (I wish this worked for my Google One subscription too)

With the way I listen to music I really don't see what people dislike about YTM. I check out new releases of artists I like, or I 'start radio' based off a song/artist I'm in the mood for. I don't really get the hate on YTM compared to Spotify, what does Spotify do better? is it a social aspect?

I have to scroll pretty far down to see Indian/Bollywood charts etc. Can't seem to ignore, but I've used to a while and 'subscribe' to enough groups that the recommendations and new releases are pretty well-tuned to my liking.

  • Worked without any issues. For the Indian address, it simply asked me to select "State" from drop-down. Nothing else.

Used Coles Credit Card with WindScribe VPN. Got 1 month free, billing will start from 24-Nov.

Just in case anyone is wondering, it seems you can now skip the part about logging into Google Play in this comment.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/575086?page=3#comment-9490…

Do follow the rest exactly and make sure you not only kick out other family members if you have set up Google Family previously, but that you also delete the old family too.

For reference, I used PIA as my VPN, Googled a Hotel in that region, used that address and a local AU credit card with no issues.

    • yes noticed that when I registered last night, the Google Play was already set to AU.

      • Have the same question as below if you don't mind answering

    • You mentioned not having to switch over to AU in the Google Play store. Did you definitely create an account using VPN with an Indian address?

As per my comments a few posts below (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9508315/redir) I want to use an existing family manager dummy account but won't bother if others have tried and failed

      • Yes, had used Windscibe VPN and Indian address to create new gmail account.

Not sure about an exisiting family manager account though.

      • Just to add to this - i definitely used my VPN and went with a starwood hotel (few to chose from in that group) in the region of the VPN server.

I played it safe and removed my old family members and then deactivated the family account under my primary profile.

My "indian" google account then let me invite all my relevant family members to that one again.

  • I've set up the account but when family members log in it says the 'wrong country' message on their devices. It does this both through the Indian VPN and without it. How do I fix this issue (from a computer)?

    • +2

There is no clear answer. This deal is posted every year. Read all the comments this year and in previous years. There are a few different suggestions on how to get around this issue but they don't work for everyone. It seems to depend on the specific settings you already have on your Google accounts. None of the suggestions have worked for me so I have given up. I hope you have better luck.

      • Nothing worked for me either. Gave up.

  • +1

Is there a way to get the family deal without having to create a new Indian Google account?

Ideally I'd like to use my existing family manager account which is already a dummy Australian Google account which was previously subscribed to YT premium

Could I just delete the current family group, logon to VPN, add a new payment method with Indian address, subscribe to the family plan, and then reinvite family members back?

Can people please comment if they've tried the above?

    • I just suspended my Australian family plan instead of cancelling it and then used an Indian VPN to renew the plan with Indian pricing and it looks like the family members are still in without having to invite them back.

      • Awesome. Thanks for giving it a go and confirming it works.

Can you confirm you kept the same account as the family manager? And all you did was update the family manager account to an Indian payment method and/or updated Google Play store region to India?

I'll have to wait till next year to update my family group again as you're only allowed to change family once a year

        • Yep didn’t change anything except for suspending the Australian plan which you can do for up to 6 months and then used an Indian VPN to renew the plan on the same day

  • +1

Can I get some quick steps for somebody that would like to create a new Google account to use this

I just want a single account that doesn't have lots of Indian content suggested if possible

Do I need to worry about any of this Google pay stuff or do I literally just make a new Australian Gmail account and follow instructions

  • +2

If you just want to get rid of youtube ads on your android tv give this a go:

    https://smartyoutubetv.github.io/

  • Do i need the VPN to change my payment method? i been using youtube premium (india) for almost a year now.

  • Can I join someone's family? How much would it cost me?

  • I signed up using the instructions here, but only got YouTube Music Premium. I still get ads and unable to download videos on YouTube!

  • Thanks
finally got motivated enough to set one of these up

  • Ok so the big question is which free VPN I can use to get into India?

  • Using nord to connect to an Indian server. But the prices showing up is for AED and not INR. Is it my VPN?

    • +1

      yep.
try India #63 on nord.. worked for me and another poster mentioned it previously.

      • Yea still took me to the UAE version. I used another app and I got it working.

  • all address needs to match your main account holder's address?

  • Can someone help out….my cousin created a family membership in India and invited me. When I try to join it is coming up saying "Trouble joining family group. Looks like you're in a different country than the family manager."

I am connected to India via the VPN while trying to join. Any ideas.

    • +2
      • thanks heaps….will try and update

        • Hi @ck909, just wondering whether you managed to set YT Premium as per those instructions. Cheers.

          • @FUZHA: I haven't tried yet….but will do that tonight and post an update.

  • My payment just got declined but my card details are correct (28 degrees). Anybody facing a similar issue?

    • Yes, I have the same problem. I think 28 Degrees checks the billing address and declines it.

      • It's working now for me. Try again may be?

  • Anyone confirm these prices and process still works? I’m getting the following message….

While the requested product is available in India, you need to purchase from Australia since your iTunes Store account is set in Australia.

  • I VPN to India but when paid, it shows in AED currency. Anyone knows how to fix?

    • +1

Try a different address or change the VPN region to another Indian city.

      • +1

Thanks. Managed to get it work.

Btw, I still have 4 invitations left for family accounts. Contact me if anyone needs.

        • can you please help me? i just created this account for your comment, after 1 day, i will pm you, please help !

  • after reading all the above.. it sounds like you ultimately have 2 payment profiles right? 1) India for payments.. 2) for family invites.

  • I had a family plan in Australian dollars and suspended it instead of cancelling.

I then used NordVPN India #63 Chennai and the Indian prices showed up.

I renewed the family plan and it looks like my family members are still in without having to add them back.

  • Anyone had luck with Spotify premium sub via Indian VPN?

  • With the student subscription, can I sign up to that if I only have an .edu.au email address? Or does it need to be with a specific university.

I work for a child care provider so we have .edu.au email addresses… will that work?

  • +2

I have just signed up the YT Premium Family using VPN and it seems ok. But it is hard to tell until YT charges my CC at the end of the trial period. It would be interesting to see what's gonna happen after the trial.

My sign up process is pretty straighforward. I have my family group setup beforehand (added all members to the group before signing up), all I need to do is VPN into india region, sign up the family package, entering my UP debit card (because UP doesn't charge international transaction fee), and an indian billing address (used the fake address generator). and that's it. All my family group members are now enjoyed the premium subscription for ~AUD$3.50 (Ind 189) . I didn't even need to change any of my existing profile address to an india address.

Will wait and see till end of next month when it starts to charge my card.

A bit upset though now my YT music prioritise the artists in Indian. 🤷‍♂️🤣 . But I happy to live with it given the fee is so low.

    • Did you change your payment profile? I am wondering whether I can use a Coles rechargeable card instead with the subscription

      • +1

        No.

Google pay will create a new google pay profile for india region (or whatever the region you have signed up in) and it won't affect your existing profile in australia.

Btw, i have moved away from yt premium india to yt premium malaysia. And now paying myr 24.90. Still cheaper than paying the premium fee in aud.

The reason for the move is the youtube music! With malaysia region i am now getting artist suggestions that i familiar with, and i am happy to pay a little bit extra for that.

        • +1

Thank you. I'll use Google pay then. I don't mind Indian recommendations as I like Bollywood music (not the current trash though)

    • Thankyou for your instructions. They worked for me

  • just signed up to the single. this still works!

  • Anyone know how to bypass, trouble joining family group it looks like the manager is in a different country? Thanks

  • anyone get a message
"your benifits have ended" renew …
if you click no thanks it keeps working though

    • Is it still working now? Or you still need to renew and pay eventually?

  • Awesome deal. Set up is easy with a VPN. Access to no ad YouTube and YouTube Music for cheap. Premium service at cheap price, I like…

  • I got a message today with title "Problem with your payment for YouTube Premium" and now its asking me to update the payment details. It has been working fine for over a year now. Seems YT is not accepting the Australian debit/credit card for an address in India anymore.

Anyone else having the same problem ?

    • Yep, me too. Loophole closed?

      • For me it turned out that I had low balance in that account linked to the card. Lol. Doesn't happen that often.

I ended up adding a secondary card just to be safe and to avoid future payment failure. So everything is good for me again.

  • Youtube india down for anyone else?

    • +1

Saw a news article saying millions of Gmail and Google accounts are down around the world. Possibly that and not these accounts.

  • Any tips on a VPN? I've got NordVPN and tried various servers (can't find 63) and always ending up in AED

    • Try Chennai instead of Mumbai

      • Have tried both - as well as a whole bunch of different server numbers (tried probably 10)

        • Got it working using Tunnel Bear.

  • My premium membership ended this month, prematurely. Seems they may have closed the loop hole? (as indicated in earlier comments)

  • does this still work?

    • Still working for me, just got billed this month

  • can someone tell me, if I activate this for my current YT account, will I get in trouble ? I would hate to lose it so not sure if its worth the risk.

I tried to setup a separate account and then add my existing as family sharing but it just simply does not work, it keeps telling me the parent plan is if different country (despite changing my account to same and vice versa)…

    thanks

    • Worked fine on my existing account

  • I keep getting the message ‘Google wants to make sure it’s you. Please enter a phone number’ How are people getting around putting in an Argentinian number ?

  • I used the Family Plan for few months peacefully, but seems like they found the loophole Payment is getting declined (used few different Indian Cards)

Any Idea if the individual account still works

  • So i activated it on an alternate gmail account and paid for the FAMILY subscription. I then requested my main Gmail account to join the family and i get the error when accepting the invite that I am in a different country to the Family and cannot continue, even when using a VPN in India.

    • Me too. Sucks. Followed the steps on earlier comments, but I found that payment details in Play Store was already showing Australian.

  • I can't install some apps that are ban or location based in india. Example tiktok is banned in india. What is the solution to still be able to install apps in Australia?

    • Are you android? If so, just switch to an Australian based Google acc in app store.

  • Just got an email to renew my yt premium student account with student ID. Anyone getting the same email? Is it usually a requirement to go through sheerid every year?

  • Has anyone had issues of payment deducted but premium membership not yet active?

    • Never mind. Got the refund.

  • My son in Japan just got asked to verify his address, I'm in Tassie and my subscription is Indian. This is going to get complicated :)

  • Does anyone how to do the same sort of thing with Google One? I need to get more storage on my account.

  • I have an individual subscription for India, but it doesn't give me an option to upgrade to family. Strange. Tried to find the option on PC, and iPhone but it's not where it's meant to be.

  • Family plan is no longer available in India :( (for new signups)

    BAHHHHH

Note: Due to the new Reserve Bank of India eMandate notification, we are not able to offer a free trial, family memberships, or student plans in India. New sign-ups for an ongoing subscription to YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium are also not possible. While we work on this, you can sign up for a 1-month or 3-month pre-paid membership. If you currently have an active membership to YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium, these regulatory changes will not impact your membership unless you cancel your current subscription and wish to sign up again. If you are billed by Apple for your membership, their policies will apply

  • Anyone having issues with changing credit card details? Keep getting an error.

    • Are you using a VPN to connect to Indian server before trying to update your CC details?

      • Yep, kept on failing to add as main card. Used VPN and without.

Ended up adding as secondary, let charge fail on primary, and it charged my secondary, delete primary and moved secondary to primary. Now it’s all good.
