Rok Espresso Maker $54.80 Delivered (Was $269) @ Alternative Brewing via Catch Marketplace

940

I have been using this machine for a while and love it. Ideal for camping or a nice present for any coffee aficionados out there.

The ROK Manual Espresso Maker is an electricity free method of preparing an espresso.

This particular model has been re-engineered to deliver twice the performance of the original model; it has a new glass composite chamber & plunger design that delivers better extraction and crema.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL

Feel the experience. You drive the finely engineered gearing that lowers the piston to generate the pressure to extract the coffee oils to create the perfect espresso. Designed by one of the UK's leading product innovators, there's over 10 years of 'know-how' built into every ROK. See it hands-on here.

NO ELECTRICITY, NO EXPENSIVE PODS

There is no lock-in to expensive pods - you choose the coffee. [Based on two espressos a day you could save over 300* a year compared to buying Nespresso capsules. And you won't be binning 730g of aluminium**]. Plus the ROK itself uses no electricity. Just add hot water and enjoy the hands on experience. Order yours here

TAKE YOUR TIME, BECOME A HOME BARISTA

Allow some time to master the ROK. It's not got a manufacturer's preset button - you are the settings. There are so many variables to a perfect espresso from the freshness and fineness of the grind to maintaining temperature of the water. The ROK is like the finest pen in the world, but it relies on you being able to write! Experiment. Some people get crema right out of the box. Some don't. Once mastered you will be truly amazed at the results you can achieve.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED

The complete kit comes with everything you need to make all the coffees you love. Espressos, Lattes, Americanos, Cappuccinos.

Package includes:

  • 10 yr warranty
  • ROK espresso maker
  • Portafilter
  • Combined coffee scoop and tamper
  • Splitter, to make 2 espresso's
  • Instructions

    What a steal! Thanks OP.

    • There is no way alternative brewing is going to honour this. They dont do clearance sales this way.

It's actually funny because that's the deal that alternative brewing got done for sock puppeting. From a L poster.

        Heavily reduced clearance item..

So how do they normally do clearance?

I told myself I didn't need one. But the price was just too tempting!

    • +2

      Same as me.

  • +1

    wow, instant purchase
    thanks!

  • Sorry, Rok Espresso Maker - The Award Winning Rok Is A Revolutionary Way To Make Cafe - Silver is sold out.

  • +2

Coming from an aeropress when i camp and an bes870 at home this looks pretty cool. thanks op

  • Noooooo I just missed out!

  • +2

Just bought one but I don't know why

    • Because this is Oz Bargain, that’s why! :D

    • +1

I'd be happy to buy one of these off anybody that thinks it'll sit in their cupboard.

I've been eyeing one off for a while to add to my cafeteria collection.

  • Yeah, price is back to normal. looks like a pricing error…??

  • I have one still in my basket. maybe i buy a second one? Doh! basket error!

  • Uh oh. What are the chances it was a pricing error? :(

  • ordered one too - lets see if catch honours this!

    • Sold and delivered by Alternative Brewing. With the volume of orders, i am highly doubtful it will be honoured but i sure damn hope it will!!!

  • +1

I like the fact people using this won't be thowing pods in the bin (should be recycling them 🤓). I'm not a coffee drinker but don't see anyone initally paying $269 for this. I think the RRP is high. For $54.80 I hope people choose to buy it and use it.

    • The original (Presso) is totally worth that and I think when I bought mine the price was higher still. I believe Rok acquired the design a few years ago, not sure if the quality has changed.

  • I think for camping I'd rather bring an actual mini espresso maker and just buy a big battery to run it. That'd be roughing it. I kinda want some portable batteries capable of powering ordinary electronics anyway.

    • +4

Wow you obviously know what you're doing

      • +9

And instead of a tent, go equal share with your fellow campers for a penthouse room at an affordable inner city hotel. You’ll have access to shower, spa, it’ll be climate controlled, and you’ll be walking distance from the city nightlife.

        • Wow. Really roughing it there.

    • So the most popular camping espresso maker is the nanopresso. It's brilliant for on the road coffee. They mastered the pressure mechanism. Makes a great crema. This is just too big IMHO but YMMV.

  • +1

I bought it without knowing what the heck it was!! I knew if I read the description first, I'd miss out.

    Glad I did

    • If you change your mind…

I got one in the cart but was sold out by the time I got in my payment info .. wahh

  • This would have been perfect for quarantine! Missed it by minutes.

    • +1

Check again, they keep adding more.

  • Ah, got greedy and missed it because I went to get cashback.

  • +4

that one hr i didnt check ozbargain …

  • Sometimes I wonder if people only bought this because they saw such a high recommended retail price, and such a huge discount.

If the recommended retail price was $99, would people have bought it? Lol

    • +3

      Yeah.

The Rok is comparable to other manual espresso devices. The Flair is another one. They generally fetch around this price range ($300ish).

Getting a manual espresso brew with a consistent 9 bar is not quite easy. If a company comes out with something that can do it well for $99, I'd definitely be interested.

Although, I think I see your point. This falls into a fairly niche category.

      • Um, the nanopresso does 18bar, is considerably smaller and produces great coffee with huge crema. Can also take nespresso pods with an adapter. The handpresso does 15bar, also quite good but not so much crema. I've got a number of truly portable espresso makers but this just isn't one.

        • +3

I have a Nanopresso, and it is great for a travel espresso brewer.

But the Rok / Flair are in a completely different league. I have the Flair, and it is miles and miles better than the Nanopresso in every way except portability. (The Nanopresso is 100% portable, while I would classify the Flair as more of a trans-portable, and borderline portable - although you most certainly can go traveling/camping with the Flair!)

With respect, I believe you are viewing this from the lens of travel/camp brewing only. Many people, like myself, use a manual machine as their home brewer as well - in which case the Rok and Flair are unquestionably superior to the Nanopresso. :)

(I think you also missed mudkipz reference to "consistent 9 bar", emphasis on consistent. Although I personally disagree that 9 bars is necessary - another topic altogether - pressure consistency / control, and pressure profiling, is one area where a lever is superior)

But yes, for travel/camping, I agree Nanopresso is a great option! :)

          HashtagLeverGang! :)

        • +4

More bars doesn't equal better when making espresso - quite the opposite. You actually want lower far lower than 18!

It's fine if a pump is capable of more power, but you want to hit that puck at a consistent 9-bars (or sometimes lower depending on your mojo).

    • worse, most people won't even use this when they figure out how inconvenient it is… just like camping, you really have to be up for it.

      • I see a few comments about using this camping. While you definitely could…but if it were me, I'd only be using this just at home. This would be too cumbersome to use while camping personally.

        Just my two cents.

      • +6

I bought a flair last week because we are returning to work soon.. I had to do one day at the office to conduct interviews and felt personally attacked for the quality of coffee beans work provide us.
Mid meeting I purchased the flair and have used it every day since.

I don't care how many people call me a snob at work, end of the day it's a passion and I get to enjoy nice espresso while they drink their 300 year old beans

        • +1

          For sure man!
It's definitely a niche area, but if you like coffee, then I think it's worth the extra effort to enjoy.

    • Gone

  • It was out of stock, I checked again 5 mins later and it was back in. Purchased!

    • When I go onto the site it says 11 left so not sure what happened.

  • +1

    Got one ! Thanks

  • sold out :(

  • +1

    WTF I missed it!

  • Somehow clicking on the Checkout button 30 times, it let me actually checkout.

    • Looks like product is being fulfilled by alternative brewing. I think it might be a refund.

  • -1

Still in stock guys! You can add to cart again

    • At $268 though, so only would be any good if still in the cart at lower price possibly.

      • Looks like it's back again

        • Yep, managed to place an order. Won't be surprised if it doesn't get fulfilled but will be a nice piece of kit if it does.

  • Pricing error?

  • oh shoot… i used a gift card. was out of stock. didn't get processed and now the gift card is empty!
what a pain. now I need to somehow navigate through catch customer service///

    • Well you should know using gift cards on deals like this is asking for troubles.

      • Haven't thought of it that way.

on the flipside, I didn't think it was unreasonable either. i used a catch gift card on catch website. out of stock. gift card shouldn't get used etc.

  • +1

Looks like an awesome portable espresso maker!

Good luck to those who managed to order one for $54.80. Hopefully they honour your orders!

  • Showing full price now. Looks like it was incorrectly priced as the conversion kit.

I hope you guys get it honoured.

    • It was reduced from normal price, with the item, photos and description all showing and stating the Rok Espresso Maker.

Nothing to reference a conversion kit. A conversion kit isn't usually $269.

The link still links to the same item. Not a conversion kit.

    • +1

Conversion kit is priced at $54.90 though. It's reduced to $54.80. I don't think this is incorrectly priced as the conversion kit.

  • +1

    $54.80 right now!!!!

  • +1

    Managed to order one.

  • +1

    Still $54.80….

  • Purchased on: 30-10-2020
    Items: 1
    Payment Method: Credit Card
    Total Paid: $54.80

Let's see if they will honour it.

  • +4

About time alternative brewing had a proper bargain.

  • You have to Catch it when flips to $54.80 again. Just keep refreshing the page…

  • +2

    Back in stock

  • It would probably make a good gift, however like some people have mentioned I'm not sure how much people would use it.

I believe there's an error, its said 11 left ages

  • +1

Thanks OP, brought one. Missed out before. Good for camping.

    • +2

How often do you go camping?

If I were going camping, I'd just make cold brew and it will last an entire week.

      • Fairly often actually since I invested so much on camping gears so the Mrs and kids are comfortable. I don't mind ruffing it personally that's half the fun.

      • I prefer a hot cuppa in the morning during the cooler months.

    • The nanopresso is good for camping. This is more for caravaning…

  • -1

I have an Oracle, I really didn't need this and bought one.

    • Like the one from the matrix?

      Who's gunna win the election?

      • Red Pill…

  • +1

Missed it the second time. Damn.

  • Price back up to $268, i highly doubt our order will be honoured.

  • I bought it just 10 mins ago.. I doubt they will honour…

  • They will, because they do the flipping of the price.

  • +6

This strange cold dripper is also on sale, retailing for $300+

    • +3

      That's good for camping too.

      • +2

Also good for anyone who needs to hate-spend some money after missing out on this :)

    • +2

Missed out on the ROK, managed to snatch this though. Calling it a win thanks

    • This looks really cool, but I'm unsure if I really need this 1 plus it looks huge
