  • I just applied for 28 degree global and got declined (no idea why, I should be accepted). Then I saw this ad on facebook. I'm new to this. Can I apply for this straight away or should I not, to avoid damaging my credit score? Thanks.

    • i'd wait 6mo

      • they declined within the 60 seconds of application process. Would it incur a credit enquiry on file?

        • yep

        • It's debatable, but if they rejected you based on the information there's a possibility there won't be an enquiry.
I've applied multiple times to citibank and didn't get accepted. No credit marks were on my report. I feel it may have triggered and auto reject.

I feel you have nothing to lose.

    • Check your credit file to see if an enquiry was made

      • which one is the best one that has no marks on your report? I currenly use finder and it is not live score (still dated 29 Oct). Canstar only shows score and doesnt show credit enquiries.

        • +2

Good question, I don't know who 28 degrees uses for credit checks. My basic understanding is you may get a credit check with a particular provider but the same check may not appear with another credit check provider if that makes sense?

You could check all? Such as getcreditscore, creditsavy and creditsimple?

Equifax can you give a comprehensive credit check report but I believe it's limited to 1 free report per year? Check that out too

  • Free money?
    i'm down

    Nevermind was autorejected.

  • Can i get this, and then the next best QFF card that comes out later still right?

  • Can I pay off a personal loan with this?

    • Cash advance fee of 2.5%.

      • Would the 0% for 15 months be applicable for cash advances?

        • I can't imagine so.

  • Ugh annual fee. similar to westpac offer (if you can get it waived off at westpac)

edit: are gift cards considered cash equivalent transactions?

  • "Eligible purchases do not include ……the obvious stuffs……..but then i saw……BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay),"

wow… so what are the suggestion of how to met the spending?
how about prepay some electricity bills? not via bpay but i will login to AGL website and pay from there. will this works?

  • I've always wondered for St george cards if they don't count Paypal PostBillpay payments towards the $2000/$4000 spend criteria to get the bonus points etc. For normal points I think its fine but for the bonus points I'm not sure.

    • sorry im confused reading your post…

      • Do rates/government payments that are paid under Postbillpay Paypal contribute towards the $2000/$4000 spend required to get the bonus points or not? For example, you can pay the rates directly but that won't contribute towards the bonus points. But under an intermediary platform like Paypal would St George not be able to see it hence be able to get the spend to contribute towards bonus points? Maybe/Maybe not… I know it works on Amex for sure.

        • so you mean, use postbillpay pick option to pay using paypal that linked to this credit card?
st george will see the transaction as paypay, right? then should be okay?
if you go to postbillpay and pick to pay with credit card then obviously bank will know.

or other options is go to the the company website directly for example AGL then find options to pay via CC (if no paypal available)
          will this work you think?

          • @CyberMurning: I think the best bet is possibly Paypal… more likely to get points awarded for Gas & Electricity services like AGL.

            • @Networks919: not worry about points just want the bonus cash back $300 Statement Credit Back …
              thanks

  • delete already answered

  • hi guys, anyone can share a bit more tips on how to meet the spending requirement…
"Eligible purchases do not include cash equivalent transactions, government charges, BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay),"

is there really no other way than buying real stuffs ? any safe way to buy giftcards for example? i tried to link the CC to my paypal then on postbillpay pay council bill using paypal option, st george statement showing the paypal council name so i think they will know.

so basically all bill payments would be in eligible then? what about like paying AGL bills from AGL website (not from st george website bpay)?

    • BPAY or similar transactions (such as Post Billpay) is pretty vague.
If you just pay a bill with the company's CC details wouldn't it just be a CC payment?

      • what do you meant pay a bill with company cc details? you mean go to the company website and enter our cc there? thats what i done with telstra but see below, i think the bank still see it as bill payments

now after few days, when i log in to st george they have marked/categorised each transaction (automated classification i believe) :
telstra and paypal council as "bills & payments"
        coles : "food & beverage"

any other suggestions on how to safely (apart from normal purchases of course), gents and ladies? thanks

  • on a bill there are usually a number of payment options, EFT, Bpay, etc
    use the CC option.

    • i see. ok will try.
they will incur a fee but its okay im happy to pay small %

  • st george so awful. doesnt have secure message system outbound, need to call, the girl doesnt have clue of term and condition, cant confirm if i meet the requirement or not… arghhhhhh. anyone got the $300 yet?

    • it says it will pay within 60 days.

      • yeah, what i wanted to know is, have i met the requirement? so i can stop spending and worrying.
what if i spend on something wrong, i thought i have met and i stop, till the time run out they say sorry no going to give you the cash back…..

  • Hmm. This card or the ANZ Rewards Platinum one?

    • both.
apply, spend quickly, calling every 2 weeks for the points/cashback, spend the cashback, close the account.
      rinse repeat

  • damn got annual fee charged 9/12/2020 (approved at 10/11) so a month.
hmm still havent got the cash back yet.

    • Same. Tried calling and they said just have to wait.

      • My very first call actually a guy (probably new staff) confirmed that I have met the spending requirement.
But second call a week later (I wanted to double check) the lady just say please wait. But she could see I have made the previous call. So worst case I can hold them against the first call/recording.

    • Still waiting here, updates anyone?

  • same still waiting. already paid full balance for 1 statement

    • in the same boat mate.

will be 60 days very soon.

  • Has anyone received their cash back yet?

    • Me, not.
Anyone call and ask? I called long ago they said 90 days 90 days 90 days…. I said can you confirm I have done enough spending? ….we can confirm in 90 days….. wtf

      • but the contract says 60 days? terrible.

        • " $300 cashback will be paid as a statement credit to your Vertigo Platinum credit card account within 60 days of meeting the minimum spend criteria. "
oh yeah, spend in 90 days but get in 60 days.
          i will call them again.

please everyone call, give them a pressure, the more calls they get

          • @CyberMurning: Almost 60 days for me and no credit yet as well. I'll contact them.
Anyone know if the 60 days starts from your first purchase or when card was activated?

            • +1

@WhatWhoWhyUsername: we have 90 days to do this thing (spending) from card activation, then, once we met the spending criteria, they will give the cashback in 60 days from that day
              - thats how i read the t and c

              • @CyberMurning: spent the $900 within 30 days so hopefully it comes soon.

                • @WhatWhoWhyUsername: Will give them a call at the end of the month. Just paid off two months worth of statements and the annual fee.

  • How long people get the card after approval?

    • Within a week and a bit

  • For anyone still waiting, I called to follow up this morning. Met minimum spend upon receiving the card and today should be 61 or 62 days "from" that date, however you calculate it, but still no cashback.

The guy tried to be helpful but to be honest only gave some pretty generic responses:
*the "Promotions team" looks after this deal so he cannot confirm for me on the phone whether I've met minimum spend via eligible purchases. That team does not take calls, however.
*at the end of the 60 days, they will "tally it up" and issue the cashback. I responded that I'm pretty sure the 60 days is up and he said today is only the first working day back.

I asked how exactly we should be following up if they cannot tell us anything specific over the phone and the "Promotions team" does not take calls. Apparently we should "send an email" so it gets forwarded to the relevant department. I can't seem to find an email/message option in internet banking so I am assuming he means the complaints/enquiry form.

It seems pretty slack that the customer has to follow up on this deal after complying with the terms and waiting the full period. The bank is basically breaching its own terms that it set - if any of us only met minimum spend in 91, not 90 days, I highly doubt we would get any leniency.

Has anyone actually received the cashback yet?

    • yeah with all this "cash back after meeting $x" i believe the process are manual ie someone need to check each transactions.
but saying that, they should be more transparent for example sending summary of meeting requirement and reminder each month but i guess if we miss means win for them so then they make it hard as possible.
coles credit card are pretty good with this kind of promo.
st george are famous for slow manual lay back bank since long time ago so dont expect much.

      • Cheers for the reply. Prior to taking the deal I heard St George have appalling customer service. I know where not to take my business now.

  • Has anyone received the cashback yet?

    • No. Called them and they said they wait 90 days from opening the account to “allow” for people to spend the minimum criteria and it could be another 60 days from there to credit it.

Clearly false advertising as the ad states will be paid once the threshold is reached.

      • According to the promo:

$300 cashback will be paid as a statement credit to your Vertigo Platinum credit card account within 60 days of meeting the minimum spend criteria

        • yeah but good luck telling that to any st george staffs….

    • Came here to ask the same. Seems like a very disorganised bank, judging from my experience so far.

  • Has anyone been paid yet?

    • no

    • no here. already paid off 2 statements

      • more than 90 days since approved?

        • Yes

    • No.. called them and they said it "should" be included in my current statement (already paid off 2). Would call again but don't think it would do much good please let us know if you get a different message

  • +1

2 of my close friends got their $300 last thursday/friday (me, not yet)
i suggest everyone to call and push hard, harder and again harder

Hi guys, I finally received the credit today - came through as a "Cashback Promotion" on the statement.

I called 2 weeks ago, they checked that I met all the T&Cs and then informed me they would manually process the credit. I suggest anybody who is still waiting to do the same.

  • +1

yes same here got it just now dated 16feb must be early hour, wasnt there yesterday.
cool now my balance only $32 left will pay off all and cancel asap no need wait for next statement

  • +1

    Got it today as well.

  • I've been sitting on the fence on this deal for a month with all the negative comments. So it looks like St George finally start issue the cashback to those qualified.

Just few questions to those just received the cashback:

    • Did you have to contact them and asked them to verify if you already qualify ?
    • How long to receive the cashback after you spent $1000?
    • I didn't contact them. It took 84 days to receive the cashback when it should have taken 60 days or less.

    • i called, first time the guy "able" to verify that i have met the requirement
second time weeks later, the girl said they cant tell customer if met/not, i just need to wait 90 days from opening. i said term get it 60 days after meeting, the girl keep saying 90days.
yeah, probably around 80ish days to receive. i paid 2 statements already. and yes paid annual fee
