Upgrade Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate $1 @ Microsoft (3 Years Max)

1460

This has been available for some time but I haven't seen it posted as a deal before.

Upgrade your Xbox Live Gold subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for just $1 for up to 36 months.

Steps:

  1. Purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Search OzBargain for the current best deal on these. Digital codes are available in 3, 6, or 12 month increments. You can load a maximum of 36 months. Once your account is upgraded this offer will no longer work, so if you want a 3 year subscription then purchase 3 * 12 month subscriptions before step #3.

  2. Activate the Xbox Live Gold codes on your account, either through Microsoft’s website, or directly through your Xbox One console. When claiming the codes you need to ensure you don't opt in to recurring billing for the free bonus month otherwise you will not be able to stack up to the 36 months. (Only applies if you are aiming to get 3 years)

  3. Sign up for the $1 Game Pass Ultimate trial.

Your Gold subscription will be upgraded to Ultimate Game Pass. You should see the expiry date when you click on the 'Services and subscriptions' tab on Microsoft's site.

What you get:
* Access to over 100 high-quality console and PC games
* New games added all the time
* Xbox Game Studio titles the same day as release
* Exclusive member discounts and deals
* Free perks including in-game content and partner offers
* Plus, enjoy all the benefits of EA Play—coming this holiday at no extra cost!
* Free access to Cloud gaming (Project xCloud) - launching in Australia early next year

  • Can somebody explain to me how the VPN works for my Australian xbox account?

i download a VPN, click country buy the code, then use it on my aus acc, then turn off vpn and it works fine on AUS?

  • Can anyone confirm if this will still work if I have availed of this promo the first time it was made available years ago?

at the moment I only purchase month by month during school holidays..

  • Would this also be able to upgrade Xbox Game Pass for PC to Ultimate?

  • I already did this 2y back I believe and that is how I ended up with XBox Pass Ultimate.
My subscription is supposed to renew for the first time this month, what is the best way to do that without an actuall monthly subscription??

I don't think I can do this trick again :(

    • Not for $1, but you can still do it for $15
You can either wait till your Game Pass Ultimate subscription expires or cancel it (I think you may have to call up MS support if you want to cancel it immediately), then load up on the XBL Gold codes (maximum 36 months of Gold) and convert it to a GPU subscription for $15

  • Can you do this if you trialed already and pay $15?

  • So I have a current sub with GPU until November next year. I'm Kinda worried this deal will end soon.

Wondering if I should cancel my sub, and get the 3 years topped up before they stop this deal!

  • I was under the impression that when you converted you account from Gold to Ultimate is wasn't a 1:1 conversion. That's what I read:

      I did this deal today.

$160 on Brazil Xbox Live Game pass ($55 Each, plus tax)
then converted them to Game ultimate for $1 via the AU Xbox website

I have Game Pass Ultimate for 3 years from today. (11/10/2023) (I assume its american formatting the dates.. so 10th of the 11th 2023.

      well bloody worth it.

    • Like it mentions in the link that 12:4 conversion is when you have an active subscription. It's 1:1 when you don't.

  • Is there anyway to do this if you have an account and have used the conversion (only did a year at the time coming up for expiry) or only way to take advantage basically to create a new account?

    • Either wait for it to expire or cancel it early. After that you should still be able to do the 1:1 upgrade at $1 if you're lucky or $15.95 worst case.

      • thanks Wangasm, very cool that the account goes back to the 1:1 conversion state once its cancelled thought it might have been one and done.

Confirming this worked for me after letting my previous GPU subscription lapse. I used 3x12 mth Brazil codes from CDKeys and then the Hotspotshield free trial to activate the codes.

    Thanks!

    • Mine expires today. I just need to find a good Gold promotion.
Yours is the most recent "still working" I believe that I have found.

  • Just FYI, this still works.

Ordered 3x 12 month Brazil keys from Electronic First, redeemed and upgraded for $1 to ultimate till the end of 2024.

  • Works like a charm! Need VPN off when making the payment from Cdkeys. And then on again when redeeming from Microsoft. Thanks 👍🏼

  • I bought a 12 month unlimited.. sold the xbox lol.. is there a way to sell the game pass or an I stuck with it?

  • Once redeemed can you cancel the recuring billing or do you have to leave it?

Looks like I got an extra 2 months free with their current promotion, unsure how it worked but don't want to lose it if I turn off recurring billing, anyone know if it's safe to turn it off?

    Also, still working.

    • Safe to turn off, you'll keep the extra months.

  • I got caught by the "free month with a recurring description" offer and now cannot redeem my third 12-month Xbox Live Gold card unless I wait two months for my subscription to get down to 24 months.

A Microsoft customer service agent told me the Xbox Live Gold code could be redeemed even after converting to Gamepass, and would still convert to Gamepass and extend my Gamepass subscription. Does anyone know whether this is true?

    • I think I found the answer:

"After you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can continue to redeem Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass codes. These codes will automatically convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate based on the following conversion table. … Token says: 12 months of Gold. You get: 4 months of Ultimate"
      https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-game-pass?xr=shellnav#faq

I'm guessing there's no conversion between Xbox Live Gold and PC Game Pass.

Gold always converts to Ultimate, not PC pass.and yes the conversion is worse when you already have an Ultimate subscription but you can do it. It's up to you if you want to wait the 2 months or use it now and lose 6 months. It says right there in Step 2 of this deal about the recurring billing trap :(

not sure why this is marked expired….worked for me today. 37 months converted to game pass ultimate :)

    • It's now marked as a long running deal with no expiry :)

  • I have a current xbox game pass for pc (month to month). Can I add 3 years xbox live gold for pc then do the $1 upgrade to ultimate? Or do I need to cancel first ? Thanks in advance. Only interested for pc .

    • You need to turn off your auto renewal and then wait until your current month fully expires before you can add/convert the gold.

  • Thanks, So I can buy XBOX Live GOLD and apply/activate on PC instead of XBOX game pass code?

    • Yup. You'll need a VPN if you're activating a XBL Gold code purchased from outside Australia.

  • just used this $1 offer to get ultimate to 2024 - thanks!

  • Is this for new subscribers only !? I tried gamepass in 2018 will my account be eligible ?

    • It should work for renewing/lapsed subscriptions yes.

For those wondering yes it did work ! Thanks tdth99

Has anyone tried this recently and can confirm it still works? Mine expired yesterday so I'm looking for the best deal to renew. Thanks.

    • I'm also wondering the same thing. I'm looking to buy an Xbox (my first console in years as I'm usually a PC gamer), so this would really be great to be able to do.

  • Is is possible to stack this onto an account that is already on gamepass ultimate (3 months for $1 deal)?

  • Did this today, still works
