AMEX: No Annual Fee on MyUS.com Premium (Save $80 + Cheaper Shipping)

190

Just saw this on Amex's website. Free joining fee, joining fee and cheaper shipping. Only works if you join with an Amex card.

I'm pretty sure this works out cheaper than any current mail forwarding service right now.

Repeat of the offer they did a while back:

    • Perfect to bring this up during US Black Friday shopping!

  • nice find. - thanks.

i wonder what would you guys buy specifically from US? I mean you do have ebay anyway

    • Ralph Lauren for one.

      • cheap? I know Armani quite cheap from US

        • not just the price, but also for the designs. Some are one-off designs which are never imported into Australia.

      Dr. Pepper

      • how much is dr. pepper?

        • about 1/4 of what it costs to get it here…

    • skis, for example. too many you can choose from their online shops. more options and much lower prices.
you think ebay is better than the combinaton of ALL those retailers inclding amazon? it is naive.

  • Its really annoying when you find something on amazon and then its says, Sorry can't ship to your location.
This can probably be used then if its not against amazon terms.

    • yes, really annoying.. i can understand if its big but this: http://www.amazon.com/Grimmspeed-Boost-Control-Solenoid-Suba…

      • But that item is being sold by a merchant, not Amazon themselves. Merchants on amazon.com don't usually sell outside of the US.

        • k thanks. dont buy much from amazon

Even with the Premium membership the discounted shipping rates is still expensive than shipito or comgateway.

    • Its true. seems like a total rip-off even after 30% discount.

Not sure about that. I recently had a Shark handheld Vac shipped through MyUS, and shipping worked out to about $60 via DHL. The shipito quote gives TNT as the cheapest at around $60 as well, but that's before shipito's fees.

For the record, the package weighed about 9lb.

Maybe it doesn't scale well at the lower weights, since there's no USPS option, but for heavier items and package consolidation I think MyUS works out better.

    Package weight MyUS.com Shipito.com
    0.5 lbs (0.2 kg)
    $39.48 $3.97
    1.0 lbs (0.5 kg) $47.94 $7.96
    2.0 lbs (0.9 kg) $52.85 $15.91
    5.0 lbs (2.3 kg) $85.35 $39.77
    10.0 lbs (4.5 kg) $124.32 $61.80

             Shipito Myus

Annual fee $50 (or 10 for a month) $60(while sign with Amex card)
    Free storeage 45days 30days

Myus premium does have free consolidation service.
However their problem is still the shipping cost is too high.

    • How did you get $7.96 for a 1lbs package?
I am new to this and tried the shipping calculators on both sites and got $30+.
Do I need to login or get an account to see the cheaper rates?

    • does that mean if my package was 2.1 lb, i have to pay 39.77 instead as its the next bracket up?

cause from experience i brought a jacket from amazon.. shipito charged me almost 53 aud cause it was 2.3 lb with fees

    • Are these prices from the MyUS shipping calculator? In which case you'd need to knock 30% off that for this deal, for starters.

The second is, you have to compare Apples to Oranges. If you're using USPS for Shipito and then comparing it to DHL/Fedex courier then that's unfair. With USPS you will most likely have no tracking number, rough handling, handballing to Australia Post and the possibility of your parcel being lost. Whereas with either of the courier companies it's door to door and you have a LOT more peace of mind, which some might think worth paying for if they've experienced losses before.

  • They should offer free shipping and just add some ads to the goods they send…

    • :-) Seriously?

Does that mean they won't ship Alienware computers?

Why would you want to? The US models are cheaper because they're usually lower spec than Aus releases.

      • still significantly cheaper to justify the trouble, no?

  • thank you soooooooooo much…
    love ozbargain…

  • When they ran the same promotion a few months ago, the terms and conditions sounded like it will only waive the first year's fees. Is this still the case?

    • its only been a few months ago so still nfi if there is a charge in 8mths time.
You can always cancel before they annual fee is due if you are concerned.
I see nothing yet to suggest they will charge me. (too early)

    • It was confirmed (can't remember whether here or Whirlpool) that it was free for life - as long as you keep your Amex card on record, i.e. if you change your card to a non-Amex you will lose the discount and get charged the annual fee.

      • I signed up to MYUS when they first launched, but stopped using it after they charged me USD$30 to ship a couple of packets of caffiene gum. Then DHL wanted to charge me $45 "quarantine fee" just for opening the packet to see what it was.

        • Yeah what's with DHL's quarantine fee? Last time I bought a couple of umbrellas (shipped from Hong Kong) and they charged me too :(

        • Sorry, don't quite see what that has to do with what I wrote? (seeing as you replied to my post)

  • its free so why not .. lol
not sure how much it'll save me but we'll see

i did a 5kg test weight through the website to Australia from the US and it said $100 shipping .. obviously you guys arent paying that much…

    any suggestions ?

    • Take 30% off the shipping calculator price.

  • This might help.

    screenshot link

    • For me, it had a $80 discount, taking the total down to $0. Did you click on the amexhka link?

      • ahhh ok i've found my issue - was a combination of the wrong link and going thru a work IP

        thanks for the deal!

        • Do you have amexhka link?

  • So… what's the shipping for a Porsche Cayman 2011 model?

    • +1

      around US$25k (for 3000kg)

      • still a bargain. +1

        • Still have to convert to RH drive though

  • My cayman cost close to 200k with options and rego. It was a bit gauling reading about guys in the US complaining about them costing 50k. Even if you converted it to rhd, you still need to have it complianced before you can register in Australia. Also you would be up for a ton of customs and luxury car tax when importing it.
The car industry is much more protected than the local book and music distributors.

    • if you can afford to blow $200,000 on a car one wonders what you are doing on OzBargain. :p
