Very good deal if one of these batteries suits your needs.
On the other hand, unless you want to do a lot of research, it might be hard to find which battery you would actually want, as it doesn't list models.

As a reference, I ordered the battery I linked for an i30 and I'm 95% sure that it will either fit, or I'll be able to make it fit.

Posted! wow; battery $9, postage $70.

      postage $70.

      Might do click & collect…

      Lead weighs lots

      • 1kg of lead weighs the same as 1kg of feathers…

  • so is this only good for Hyundai vehicles? or is that just the battery branding..
I need one for 2003 Ford Focus hatch…

    • so is this only good for Hyundai vehicles?

      apparently.

    • +18

I need one for 2003 Ford Focus hatch…

      Sorry. Ford don't make batteries.

      You'll need to get a new car…

      • +3

Bit harsh getting downvoted for bit of light hearted humour. Have a upvote, we need more like you.

        • +9

I think swampson's wife downvoted, after he came home with a new car

      • Just need some of those pills in the tank made specifically to fix problems with that brand… Ford pills.

      • You can just download one these days

    • +5

It's only a branding. If it fits your car's battery space, it's good. Make sure that the cold crangking amps CCA number is same or preferable higher than your current one. I personally always go with more power for prolonged battery life. Good luck with it.

      • ok thanks for that - i'll have to check my current battery first. Car is parked up the hill for handy roll starts .. and it's pissing down right now :)

        • Oh man, that sucks. I think any battery would suffice than needing a rolling start LOL That's what i will do hehe I fogot to mention that make sure the terminal positive and negative is in the correct orientation of your old battery

      • personally always go with more power for prolonged battery life

Is that the way it works?

        • I get good life out of my batteries with an avg of 5 to 6 yrs under this mantra.

      • +2

Yep also check terminal location/orientation isn’t going to be an issue.

    • +1

Just measure the dimensions on your old car battery or the dimensions of the slot and Match it up

  • +3

The model numbers in the pictures don't match the specs. Heck, the pictures themselves contradict each other.

    Good luck OP…

    • The first 6 pictures or so are the same for all the batteries.

  • any way we can check what models will this work with?

    • Product Dimensions: 24.2x17.4x18.9cm

    • +4

With the cca numbers it will be ok for sedans, hatches suv (but excluding big ones like pajero, Landcruiser, Patrol etc). To be sure, just check the cca number with your battery against it. More is better. Lastly make sure the terminal positive and negative is in the correct orientation of your old battery

  • postage for me was $0 so really cheap if the specs are correct.

  • Not sure if it's changed, but my 2016 Santa fe didn't come with a Hyundai branded battery, so this raises a bit of a flag for me, doubt they've started making their own in that time.

    • I was thinking the same thing.

      • Chinese made lot of "Hyundai" branded car accessories. I think they have nothing to do with the "Hyundai" in your brand.

    • They also say "for Japanese vehicles" which is funny but they do seem to be a subsidiary tho Hyundai Sungwoo Solite Co., Ltd

      • Hyundai Corporation was established in 1976 as an import and export trading house of Hyundai Group. It has grown as a representative general trading company in Korea with excellent results in international trade focusing on heavy chemical products, overseas investment, and energy & resource development fields with the whole world as its stage.

        From http://www.hyundai-batteries.com/

    • +1

My Hyundais are fitted with Solite batteries which are the same product as Hyundai Enercell believe. These Enercells are supposedly made by Hyundai Sungwoo Solite Co. Ltd. who "manufactures and markets batteries. The company offers complete maintenance free (CMF) batteries, batteries for taxi, batteries for imported vehicles, absorbent glass mast batteries, enhanced flooded batteries, large CMF batteries, and PF batteries; batteries for industrial and electrical use; agricultural machines batteries; and batteries for ships."

  • +1

"Hyundai Enercell" is a legit battery maker. Any chance these are Chinese fakes? How would you know until they fail?

I'm not sure why these batteries are all over the dodgy clearance sites (Kogan, Catch etc)
Seller is Outbax camping, who normally imports cheap Chinese items.

The photos show different models, and advert does not say which, but the dimensions are correct for an i30.

    • +2

If the seller is Outbax Camping that is NOT good news for purchasers. That seller is notorious for selling rubbish made in China with fraudulently exaggerated specifications to make you think you are getting something good at a low price. That's how some Chinese manufacturers can offer the low prices they can. The classic is making a 200W solar panel, then selling it as a 300W panel so people think they're getting a bargain. So if you think you're getting a heavy duty battery for the price of a light duty one, it's possible you're getting a light duty battery sold as being a heavy duty one. The clue often is that the label on the product doesn't have any actual rating on it. The manufacturer leaves that off the label so that they can be sold fraudulently as being a higher rating. I would advise people who want a bargain to go to some where like Aldi where their bargains can be relied on to actually be what they claim to be being sold at a good price.

  • Does anyone know if these are suitable for a Mazda CX-5 stop start 2l petrol engine ?

    • +1

      I'd have thought no,
but if you look at the Outbax website, some claim to be suitable. Maybe you can match it to the mydeal listings???

      • Thank you

    • It's not trivial. You need to measure your current battery's dimensions, the pole location and the CCA rating. If the seller doesn't have that info then you're taking a bit of a gamble.

    • Was at the mechanics recently who advised they had a BMW in the garage with start stop that had failed electronics due to it being fitted with a non start stop battery. I'm not savvy on auto electrics but they were and I was surprised to hear it damaged more than fuses. They insisted stop start cars require a compatible battery which is usually double the price and has half the warranty length (they poiunted this out to me).

  • +3

There are certain items that when the price is too good to be true its a red flag - and vehicle batteries are one of those things. I think there's a real risk they're either under spec'd dodgies or have an old manufacturing date or have been badly treated i.e stuck in a hot shipping container for too long.

Might be ok for a long shot risk IF you really can get a good physical fit and specs for your car - but good deals come up regularly enough at Repco etc and I sniff something is up with these ones.

    • +1

      You're onto it !

    • Yeah somthings is suss. Never seen automotive batteries this cheap before. They have warranty though.

    • Id say it's old stock.

    • 30% off is what I get cheap car batteries for. The offer rotates through repco, supercheap and autobarn often enough if you're not in a hurry.

  • +7
    1. first research your require battery on superchearauto.com.au
    2. Mark down your CCA and AH numbers and battery dimensions
    3. Match your CCA and AH number on mydeal.com.au
    4. confirm the dimensions,
      5 Cell Layout: 0 or 1 mean terminal+ and - orientation, 0=L 1=R

    For example: SuperCheapAuto 75D23LMF
D23 means the width is 23CM
    L means Cell Layout: 0
    MF =Maintenance Free

  • Pulled the trigger on a 550CCA; I'll provide feedback once it arrives.

I've got enough leeway on my terminal leads that I can mount it with posts forward or back if it doesn't mirror the existing battery. If the posts are utterly different then this'll go into service for my UPS instead.

I also have no reason to think that the battery would have been mishandled in shipping more than being in use in Australia over summer! I'm certainly going to thrash it more once it goes into service.

  • +6

If I'm not mistaken, the distributor for this brand of batteries recently ceased trading here in Oz. These may be old stock that have sat on a shelf for a couple of years and therefore may have lost a bit of their usable life. I purchased a new (old stock) 650cca Hyundai battery for $35 and it seemed fine, however I only had it for a few months before selling the car.

    • +1

      $35? From where dude?

  • +3
  • -1

Same price on outbaxcmaping eBay page.

    • Nope.

Minimum price is $85.50 for the 520/550CCA batteries

  • +2

Yes, never buy an old car battery. They start to noticeably degrade when stored unused for over 6 months.

At this price I personally might chance it if the manufacturing date is at most 1 year in the past. If I can't find out, or it is over 1 year, I would pass.

    • +1

"noticeably degrade" in test results, but you are not going to notice it in your car.
A bit of reduced life might be worth it at these prices?

The language they use is taken from deep-cycle batteries:

"Our portable HYUNDAI Deep Cycle AUTOMOTIVE Battery provides off-the-grid power supply for 4WD vehicles, caravans, campers, trailers, motorhomes, etc."

If these are ordinary car batteries, that would all be wrong and misleading.
Their website mentions deep-cycle, but not the MyDeal site.

I reckon Outbax picked these up for pennies in the dollar, and found it a bit harder to offload them than expected.

      • +3

Deep cycle batteries have thicker plates, allowing for more charge/discharge cycles.

But they will have the same sulfation issues as ordinary car batteries.
        https://www.crownbattery.com/news/sulfation-and-battery-main…

Never store them when they are not fully charged. And even if they were charged fully initially, they will self-discharge over the course of months and years to a point where sulfation will occur.

      • Here's a chart to illustrate, from the data sheet of a reputable AGM deep cycle battery

Ordered a 70AH 620CCA version for $89, needed a new battery for a project car (also relocating the battery so no size constraints to worry about).

Shipping to me was free, hope it's not too good to be true.

Going to stick it on a charger as soon as it arrives.

  • I got 5 year free servicing for Santa Fe and battery was out in year 4 and called the free road side assistance part of hyundai deal if service at dealer and I was told by rac wa that my battery replacement was covered and replaced on same day.
FYI in case you are not aware. Or I was just lucky

    • That's pretty good, usually batteries are excluded beyond year 2.

  • +5

You can also apply the code

    FRENZY10

    For another $10 off.

Very very happy with my 70amp 60 CCA battery for $79 delivered

    • Thanks for the code! 65amp for $69 delivered.

    • Damn, i missed it but i feel bad when they ship 12kg without delivery fee

    • +2

      sad frenzy code has expired

  • I run catapiller batterys in my veh (very well priced for what you get) but these seem OK for the price. You may also want to check at what temp there cca is rated at. Also may not be suitable for stop/go cars.

Most battery places do free battery testing take it in before installation if its a dud get money back.

    • +1

need new ns70zzl type - who deals in the caterpillar brand in bris - waiting for costco 25% off on exide but i have heard of these caterpillar ones before

      • Cat battery's are also rated at 0 degrees cca. I run 2 x n70 battery's in my ute. Can't remember there exact part number but I payed $150 each. I admit there is cheaper but these things just go and go.

  • +3

Anyone consider using one with a solar panel? I know they're not deep cycle but so cheap!

    • +1

Yep, I'm considering getting one to use in a small test rig. Got the good old flickering light issue at our place so will build a small solar/battery rig and feed the lighting circuit from a pure sinewave inveter and test it for a month or three. No flickering after that then I'll invest in an expensive 1050Hz notch filter. I HATE flickering/shimmering lights!

      • The problem will be that you cant flatten these.

I do find it strange that they state its for a 'solar panel' and yet…. they're not.

        • Yeah, all good. I got a 70Ah but probably won't even need half of that for the lighting test rig so its unlikely it flatten. The inverter/solar regulator hopefully won't allow it anyway. My old deep cycle 'utility' battery died last year so these are a no-brainer at this price. Always handy to have a 12V battery laying around and handy that it can be used to jump start too instead of just a small UPS type battery.

        • I got the 65amp (now partially regretting not going for the 70) and will only use a max of 30amp/day. Should have plenty of headroom to avoid full discharge.

  • -1

Womans car battery is about to die, perfect timing cheers OP

  • +1

Thanks, got several for my iPhone Pro as backups.

  • +1

Someone should take one to Autobarn or Battery World and get them to do a free CCA test. Usually new batteries test higher than their rating, but if I had to guess these would be a little under advertised if they have sat in stock for ages. 550CCA should test at 550-600CCA when new, I reckon these would be at 500-550CCA which isn’t too bad for the price. It’s like getting a new phone with 90-95% capacity instead of 100%

  • I bought the 70ah agm @ 160 del, then found it on ebay, outbaxcamping $3 cheaper. Note to all that all these also avail on ebay at better prices… slightly.. free del.

    • 70a at $160? Aren't they selling for $89? Or is that another type?

      • they are, but the cheaper ones aren't agm, also the agm is smaller which I need for my vehicle.. even @ 160 its a bargain…

  • You know the saying. If something is too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Good price for the weight. If you have no physical dimension requirement, always go by weight. Similar pricing to this ebay listing: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HYUNDAI-12V-70Ah-Car-Battery-Sim…

  • +1

Thanks OP. Good timing, and free post to Perth.

I have a CCA tester, will report back after it arrives.

    • Any update on yours? Have you received it and/or CCA tested it?

    • The Bad:
Multiple queries to Mydeal/Outbax regarding the status of delivery were just answered with we asked the courier company to provide details. But none were forthcoming.

My battery finally arrived yesterday 14 days to deliver.

There was no tracking information available from Hunter Express except once it was delivered.

The battery I received was claimed to be rated at 550CCA, and has tested at 502CCA @12.74V. This is disappointing, as sealab ordered a 520CCA battery from this deal and it tested at 516CCA

      The Good:
The battery was very well packed

  • Which one is for i30?
They all say for Japanese vehicle..

    • 62Ah one looks like it.

  • +1

Order cancelled. No explanation given. :-(
Not before a hundred mydeal spam emails received.

    • That's annoying!
Mine says it was shipped an hour and a half ago, but the tracking number does not work (yet).

Also: Username DOESN'T check out! ;)

      • Same, Shipped 16/11 but no details in tracking yet.

        • Literally just got off the phone with Hunter Express (took 15 minutes to get through to someone). Booked in on the 16th, but hasn't been picked up yet.

          • @RubenM: I tried to call, but got stuck in a recorded loop. Basically they don't want to talk to the receivers, only the senders.

Mydeal, not much better. Will see if they respond to my written query…

            • @petestrash: I did find a path to speak to an operator on Hunter Express (after a bit of trying), but it hadn't been picked up then. I'm hopeful that I'll actually get it now though, given that it says the following now:

              Detailed Tracking History
              Scanned Item Status/Reason PoD
              24/11/2020 06:15:00 Scanned into Depot
              23/11/2020 14:20:00 Scanned into Depot

              • +1

@RubenM: Just got a reply from Outbax via Mydeal

"We have opened a request with the courier to locate your order. We will get back to you once an update is provided. Regards,Jay"

At least its not cancelled yet…

    • +1

Turns out MyDeal cancelled it. Now they blame payment security instead of the seller.
All sorted eventually, no fault of Outbax.

  • +1

Just received my battery from HunterExpress today (Melbourne). Ordered on the 13-Nov.

  • +2

I'm considering downvoting my own deal!
Said it shipped over a week ago, but nothing. Can't call MyDeal, or OutbaxCamping either.

    • Well, heavy! But ships from SILVERWATER , and you are Sydney?

      I have no tracking either.
Freight is all over the place this year. I had a package sent from local shop in Perth, went via Sydney.
Does HunterExpress have your Connote lodged?

      • Yes, I'm a whole 10km from Silverwater!
The job is in their system, but they couldn't give me any information on when or how and just stated to call MyDeal.
