  • Anyone have experience using these 3rd party controllers with Switch?

    • +2

While you are waiting for replies, there are is a bit of discussion in the last $24.98 deal.

    • +3

I grabbed 4 of them last deal, they are great, we use them for Mario Kart and I cant fault them.

      • silly question probably but how do you connect 4 controllers to the switch?

        • +1

You can use a regular USB hub on the Switch

          • +6

@Merlict: Just don't do it, if you're competitive with fighting games.

The polling frequency of USB, divided by 4, is noticeable if you're used to frame-exact cancellations (like in BlazBlue).
For once, a wireless technology is actually faster ><

            • @MasterScythe: Had no idea.

Wonder if the USB Gamecube controller adapter has the same problem

              • +5

@Merlict: Yep, both run at the default 125hz (8ms).
If you start dividing that polling rate into 4 (so multiplying the input delay), you get significant time (8ms, 16ms, 24ms, 32ms).
Where with Bluetooth up to 24 devices, they can all handle 125hz polling rate (8ms, so long as less than 24 bluetooth devices are connected).

Yes, it affects any time you use the USB connection for more than 1 thing.

For games with some level of 'warning' (mariokart for example, you can see the turns), your brain easily adjusts to the 16ms or so polling of 2 controllers being wired.
But much more beyond that, or any game that requires twitch reactions, and you can usually feel it significantly.

                • +2

@MasterScythe: That is bizarre and fascinating!

I guess it makes sense since they'll all be treated as coming from the same IO for the CPU.

Does this mean that keyboards and mice attached via a usb hub are halving their polling rates or is this only applicable to the Switch/consoles without more advanced ports.

                  • @Telios: Yes, likely, but not always. Some peripherals can negotiate faster polling; like 1000hz gaming mice which need drivers.

Some usb hubs "ask" for 250 or 500hz polling.

In windows you can set custom polling rates via the registry.

If you prefer wireless and already have other consoles (PS3, PS4, Wii U Pro, xbox one s, etc) 8bitdo adapters are only a few dollars more at $22 (inflated because of COVID, you can sometimes find them for less than $15):

        https://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/

        https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=8bitdo+usb…

We never bothered buying any $80 Switch Pro controllers because the PS4 controller is almost as good.

Cheap, wireless, and no-one can whine about getting the crappy controller when they lose.

    • +3

They're technically not 3rd party; at least not in the traditional sense.
Nintendo doesn't really do a whole lot of physical manufacturing, and the company is officially licences to create their controllers.
It's not like madcatz or such where it 'works with {console}', this is official switch branded equipment.

And yes, I've tried them, Felt 1:1 with my gamecube controllers.

  • +2

is it possible to connect these to a wiiu to gamecube?

    • -4

Only via an ATARI 2600 with an in-built Commodore 64.

      • +5

It’s ironic that you gave a smart ass answer because you think it’s a stupid question - yet it is you who doesn’t know what you’re talking about.

Apparently works with Nintendont, would also potentially work with HID TO VPAD.

        • +2

          I think he just found the question funny; i mean;

connect these to a wiiu to gamecube?

Connecting this controller, to a wiiU, and connecting a wiiU to a Gamecube would be one hell of a daisychain and homebrew scenario to re-output the input commands.

I chuckled too; if you've ever programmed for either console, even though the question is a mistake, the magnitude of what hes asking is a good laugh.

Its the project size thats funny….Like… "Can my 3d printer hot end cook a steak".
i mean… yeah! But…. Imagining the magnitude of writing that GCode is just brutal!

          • +3

@MasterScythe: He meant to "play GameCube games".

            • @J6: I know, but its not what he said. English faux pas are usually comical; at least to me.

          • +1

@MasterScythe: I'm glad someone was on the same wavelength.

        • +1

So to confirm, does this work on a WiiU with homebrew? Thanks

          • +1

@edwink: Yes, confirmed working by reddit posts, just need an ini file with the right settings.

        • +2

Geez bro. I was just poking fun at the typo.

Sorry to have offended you. Hope your day got better.

  • +3

Does anybody know if these controllers work on anything else or do they work exclusively on the switch?

    • +4

If you mean switch controllers; they work on PC.

      • +2

So Raspberry Pi is also a possibility…

        • +1

          Thanks @MasterScythe and @smartazz104.

  • +1

Thanks OP, my dog ate through one of mine this week so perfect timing :)

    • +2

You dog should at least pay half of the price then. Lol

      • +4

Just halve his rations while he pays it off.

        • +2

I am wondering what games said dog likes to play. Obviously he was fed up with being left out of the play. Hide the bicycle next; bicycle tyres are very chewable too.

  • Thanks OP grabbed the NES mini case

    • Great case. I use it for my snes mini. Absolute bargain.

      • Wanted 2 but sold out sadly. 1 is enough

  • Litterally grabbed 4 for mario kart party, thanks OP

  • Great deal OP, many thanks.

  • +1

dream of the day when its 50% for joycons and pro controllers

  • +3

Those gamepads look awesome - why oh why couldn't they be wireless tho.

  • I've been think about it but couldn't punish myself using these vs a pro controller ,
Maybe good for little kids or big that don't know the difference or too TA :)

    • +1

Nah these are pretty good, it's not like the Madkatz controller you only give to your little brother.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Was thinking of getting this exclusively for Mario Sunshine on the All stars collection, are the triggers like the old gamecube controllers?

    • +4

This has digital triggers only, so you'd be using the controls remapped like the Pro controller

      • +2

Thanks for this. Do you know what I’d need to get to play Sunshine with a GameCube controller? Do I need to get a specific controller AND the GameCube dock thing?

        • +3

I believe any Gamecube controller now works with the OG control scheme if you use it through the Gamecube controller adapter

Probably have the best luck with proper Nintendo ones though

  • In case of mario kart wanting to play with four players, could I get two of these controllers connect via usb, in addition to the two wireless joycons?

    • +2

      Yup

  • Is this good for fortnite in switch / PC ? The joycon sucks for fortnite.

  • +3

Its also on Amazon for the same price

  • Must resist. So far so good.

  • Brought a Yoshi ver from amazon. Very colourful controller. It's on backorder, delivery Dec to Jan anyway no rush.

  • This is also a good deal:

Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop 5050 Keyboard and Mouse Combo $64.98 (was $129.95)
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/pc/225362-microsoft-wirel…

  • How could I connect this controller to switch ditectly?

    • Usb hub that comes with switch. I guess you'll have to be pretty close

    • +1

USB C male to USB A female adapter.

  • +1

Thank you for posting. A spare controller always keeps the horde happy.

  • Meh, shipping kind of kills the deal.

    • +2

Can click and collect or buy in store for most items.

  • +1

Got the blue Zelda smash style controller from eBay EB shop and had a $5 off code so it ended up being $12.48 pick up.

Cant complain to have a spare controller for that price.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got a couple works great on PC for GameCube emulation.

  • Is there a wireless adapter for switch that accepts the usb on this controller? Eg similar to how 8bitdos adapter connects to the gamecube controller to make it wireless? Cheers. And thanks OP for the deal

  • My 2 cents after trying the controller out for half n hr

L n r Triggers feel v diff to gc controller

I find fast falling a little harder with pdp, but short hopping easier compared to gc. This is for smash

Otherwise pretty much the same but the black link version looks bad ass compared to any other controller including the official gc controller

  • Are the triggers analogue like OG GC controllers or digital like switch ones? Anyone know?

    • Not analogue.

  • Order from amazon and got it today in regional Victoria.
These controllers are certainly not bad for the price not as good as official game cube controller however better than the typical Chinese knockoffs.
    Can't go wrong for $17 to $25.

    • These are all $40 plus on Amazon AU

      • Check again, Pichu and Pikachu are still $25.
