Internode Free Setup and 2 Months Free Internet for New Customers on 24 Month Contract

136

Saw this deal on internode's gaming website. They are running a 2 months free internet and free setup offer for new customers who sign up through the games.on.net website on a 24 month contract.

Was hoping it would be available for existing customers but apparently it isn't.

24 month contract is so 2005…

  • +4

Internode are one of the most expensive ISP's around BUT they also run one of the best networks.

They are similar to Telstra NextG, you can't get it elsewhere, but its a rip off.

The only difference is a lot of us are with TPG and get no real benefit to being with Internode besides some lower pings in league of legends, world of warcraft or whatever kind of overseas hobby you have.

24 months is a scam no matter what it is. I would stay away from this deal.

    • +9

It's funny, because I swear I read Simon Hackett (CEO of Internode) telling everyone to be wary of & avoid 24 month contracts when Telstra dropped their prices…

    • If you don't go with a 24 month contract then they tend to charge like $200-300 set up fee, etc etc…

Sorry Sam, but they're support is utter rubbish, you might get their Australian call centre (who are good), but it takes forever to get through to them and if you're on naked like me, that's 45-60min on a mobile waiting to get through, often just to leave a message….it's cost me several hundred in mobile calls.

I'm breaking my 24mth contract just 6mths in, they're just so terrible. Network issues (possibly a landline issue), (I'm rarely up for more then two days) the speed often grinds to ADSL1 speeds & it's really unreliable. Don't go naked with them. I'd rather go back to TPG for less money & better service/support (I'd rather speak to someone in Indo with 5-15min, then wait an hour or two to speak to an Aussie. I made 1/4 of the calls to TPG in 3yrs then I have to TPG in 6mths and in the past 2mths I've just given up.

Also note, when the NBN comes, they're one of the most expensive (and will you be forced to take up their expensive pricing if switched?). If you're in Melb or Syd, you're better going with Bigpond cable & lock in a 24mth deal for basic phone & internet for $78/mth.

I don't remember talking about their support..

Its their network, you pay 2-3 times more then TPG, but you get a better quality network.

        • but i reckon you dont get any better, in fact in my experience it's worse.
free abc & usenet is why i switched, but it's too unreliable.

      • +6

"Possibly a landline issue"… well is it? You're happy to bag them whether it's their issue or not??

I've been with them for 6 years. Fantastic support (they top the polls for customer feedback every single year for a reason), awesome speeds, free usenet, unmetered iview, steam cache, and they are not that expensive. Oh and I'd like to see how many other ISPs offer Naked and Annex M features!

        • -6

no I'm happy to bag them for their "premium" product pricing, but their budget support.
The network drops in & out. they or I can't point the finger at the issue.

but their network is slow in peak time…hardly "better quality network"

      • What a load of shit. You can leave a message straight away if there's a queue and I really doubt anyone, other than yourself, is stupid enough to believe your service has been down at least sixty times in the last six months and nothing was done about it. Are you trolling or did Simon pwn you on whirlpool or something?

btw. Since when could you neg a deal because of it's terms?

        • Are you serious?

The terms are the most important part of a bargain.

        • -1

You might want to bother reading the rules of negative voting sam…

        • No need, I'm right.

      • Neg me all you like Fanbois, nut the deal is crap, Internode overcharge & under deliver. the deal is a Neg, no ifs, no buts, no maybes…The Slimey Hackett fanbois are like Jobs fanbois, they're blinded by their own bigotry

I think your getting negged because your bashing your head into the keyboard instead of using your fingers to write an intelligent post.

I have Internode…. will never go back to other carriers.
Whirlpool conduct regular ISP surveys, and there's a reason Internode has the highest customer satisfaction levels. Yeah you can find cheaper (I hear DoDo is pretty cheap :)), but like everything on this planet you get what you pay for…. and Internode is the best.

Ok, I'll stop the sales spiel… but they are 'that' good that I cant help myself ;).

    • +1

      Yeah you can find cheaper

Yea dodo and pretty much anyone else.

    • +3

DoDo is the opposite end, try comparing with iiNet or TPG (cheaper yet maintains a decent service)

      • I was with Internode for 4 years, before which I was with iPrimus for around 3yrs, and somewhere inbetween TPG for a few months, paid $300 and left due to horrible congestion(before acquiring PPC1), then moved to BP Cable forever and now back to NDSL with iPrimus…, planning to move back to Cable once DOCSIS 3.0 is nationwide ! ;) lol

    • There is a lot of difference with internode and Dodo, Internode is equivalent to a Tier 1 internet service as they own and maintain their own equipment and optimise their network while Dodo, a tier 3 provider just re-sells other internet products.

Internode is best compared to Tier 1 and 2 providers, iiNet, Optus, TPG etc.

I have now been with Node for 6 years and never had an issue. The price is not much higher than other ISP's, but the performance and extras rally make it worth it, free Usenet, and Annex M are what many others cannot offer. Great speeds also http://www.speedtest.net/result/1620980624.png

  • I've heard really good things about internode but I download a lot and an extra $80 per month to get a 1000gb plan (from a $60 unlimited TPG plan) is just too much.

    • +3

Well that was true last year. Unfortunately around 6 months ago Internode management made some very bad decisions that have upset most of their customers. As such ther has been a mass expodus from Internode that will continue for another month or so.

In short, take your free 2 months and get out as quickly as you can.

      Don't believe me, check Whirlpool.

      • +3

What do you mean 'free 2 months' and 'for another month or so'. Are they letting people break contracts for free for the next month or something?

  • +1

Thanks OP, you just saved me a heap. There are very few options besides Telstra for people in regional areas, and Internode has been awesome.

The cancellation charges for a 24 month contract really aren't that bad:
a $120 early cancellation charge applies if the service is cancelled during the first 12 months; or
a $65 early cancellation charge applies if the service is cancelled during the second 12 months.

MyNetFone can supply you ADSL2+ over the Telstra network at a much better price.

      • Just tried MyNetFone coverage checker: Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you any type of broadband service at this time.

I'm only 1 hour out of Adelaide.

Recent article in the paper says that these guys are volunteering to dob you in to the authorities if you are accused of downloading any copyrighted items. I wouldn't touch them

    • +1

I think you'll find that was all the ISPs in general supporting a trial system…

    • +1

Get your facts straight before you spout. They, along with 4 other ISPs, suggested a self-regulation system that would see you get a warning from them INSTEAD of them dobbing you in and passing on your details.

  • +2

I think I've been with Internode for what must be 8-9 years.

During that time, I can only remember one period where I had connection issues, and I'm pretty sure that was my modem playing up. Spoke to an Aussie tech at about 10pm at night and got it all sorted.

I think Internode must be suffering what Telstra mobile is currently suffering - an influx of new customers. Only in recent times have I seen my download speed drop below my maximum line rate, albeit only during peak times.

I'm trying to stay with them as long as possible but the allure of 100mb Bigpond cable will probably sway me soon.

  • Been with iinet for 10 years almost, couldn't think of a reason to leave them but people say internode would be the only reason.. Anyone tried both?

  • +1

You'll see more of these 24mth "deals" as he ISP's will get paid for migrating their customers to the NBN. But remember to check the NBN pricing of your ISP if you sign up as you'll be stuck with them.
    http://delimiter.com.au/2011/09/19/iinet-massively-undercuts…
why pay more for the same speed you get on ADSL?

  • +2

Node is probably the one ISP I've been with the longest but even I have to say that you do pay a premium for their network and there are simply better deals out there. I churned to MyNetFone… $50/mth for more data, just as much bandwidth, free setup, free modem, and only a 12 month contract. And I remained on the Optus network which, at my residence, I have hardly had trouble with.

I won't neg this deal as, for some, it might be great. I just don't think Node is what they once were anymore (esp since they got rid of the Easy Naked S plan and jacked up the price for existing people on that plan who haven't been with Node for 5yrs).

  • Thanks OP! I cancelled my order which was still provisioning and signed up again now, as they stuck to their guns and refused to simply credit the account. Bit silly because it's just wasting my time and theirs … but hey, saved quite a bit here!

  • +2

Neg as they used to good valued but last price hike of nearly an extra $20 a month! put them nearly as expensive as Telstra. So 2 free months isn't a bargain on this expensive product

    • +1

yup.. they got crappy plans now and shafted everyone recently with a price bump
felt bad for recommending them to ppl i know.

    • I thought the $20 got changed to $10 after listening to their customer?

  • After watching the Gruen Planet, they mentioned the advertising companies jump on forums to "support their customer? I suspect many on here are just Internode stoogers. Neg my factual comments all you like, but their "premium service" is nothing but a scam. they were good, but they're now just an over priced, under delivered ISP. go with another ISP.

    • its much more likely the same idea as people who have Apple phones. They support Internode for everything except what it actually offers you compared to another ISP.

  • 24 month contract is bad!
