  • also purchased about 11am as soon as I saw the post here.

I purchased mine less than 10 minutes after the post was made (order 35XX, much earlier than 11am) and am on the 3 month back order list - and no guarantee I will get one. I spoke to the person on chat and they said they prioritise based on order number, so unsure how this works!

  • They have just put up a 'Now only $699' advert for the Max on their Facebook… Mmmmmmm not smelling right at all.

And everytime someone goes to enquire on their order they try to upsell another model.

Are they not aware of that Bait and Switch tactics are illegal in Australia?

  • +6

Can we please ban scootcity from ozbargain?

Please review this scammy C*** here

  • hopefully we will get our money back.

Just got off chatting with scootcity, trying to reach some middle ground, but did not work out and am canceling my order.
What really pushed me to this decision was, when asking what stock they eaven have, was this reply

"I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it caused. I will have our Site department to up the available of the scooters. The remaining stocks we have is the Segway E22 and the Mearth S Pro and X Pro. Some models are tough to source nowadays due to the pandemic."

So all they have in stock at the moment is the same 3 scooters they offered us as "options"

Not happy, and safe to say, I will not be purchasing from them in future

    • In other words they were selling stock they didn’t have

      • Yep. Doing a bait and switch to move the stuff they actually have in stock

    • Ah the pandemic, that old chestnut. Never gets tired…

  • +2

I actually ordered 2 units on different orders and different payment details, both 35XX order numbers. Originally told no stock on both and offered the Mearth X & S units as usual. Pushed for a refund and kept being offered the Mearth units and asked why I didn't want a Mearth.

Then after 5 or so requests for refunds they 'found' one Max and I got offered 1 Segway Max but only if the other Scooter taken was a Mearth X Pro.

So I asked for a refund on one order and ship the one Segway Max they had just 'found', but they wouldn't do that unless I took the Mearth X Pro as well. Really didn't want an X Pro!

Pushed for refund again and it was offered with 5-10 business days wait. So we shall see, if I have to chargeback in the end so be it but hopefully they will just refund as promised.

Chat process was 96 minutes of requesting refunds before finally agreed, though the guy was very polite.

    • +1

Sounding more and more like it's to get rid of Mearth stock.

  • I know this is over but I price matched this ($699) at JB today. I had some JB gift cards so I only actually paid around $250. Pretty good considering it’s already on “sale” for like $960 at JB. So far, so good. I’m a bigger guy (110kg) and it gets to 25km/hr on the flat.

    • Hi. Please can upload the receipt from JB Hifi

    • Are you JoKing? Might have to try it tomorrow

    • Yup upload receipt thanks.

    • username checks out:)

    • Sorry, why do I upload the receipt?

      • So others can try for $699 .. generally getting them below $800 is a challenge.

      • +3

To prove you're not bullshitting. Receipt thanks.

      • Why would anyone make that up? I’ll try and find the receipt when I get home, but yeah I called and made sure they’d price match before going in.

        • +2

Went to JB Queens St in Brisbane and they refused to price match a back order.

Maybe it’s my poor negotiating skills

Wouldn’t budge even after showing them the SC deal - best price on offer was $959 - 20% off till 03 January.

          • @spif888: Sounds like it might be a bit of a gamble on whether they’ll do it or not. You could try arguing their price match policy. I guess if it’s below cost most wouldn’t do it.

            • @JoKing: And you wouldn't have a leg to stand on as the JB price match clearly says "identically stocked competitor product". SC doesn't have the item stocked, it is a backorder.

            • @JoKing: Or you could just upload the receipt so others can get it? Why are you so hesitant - it makes no sense…

              • @shaibankek2: Couldn't find the paper receipt, and I haven't been home much. Didn't realise that me showing my purchase would help others - I've tried doing this exact thing before and the JB guy I was talking to just said their manager wouldn't approve it.

          • @spif888: Surprised they had any stock even, guy showed me their stock list today in the JB Hifi at Harbour Town on the GC and only place with stock local was Toowoomba, 150km away. They had 1 returned unit there at Harbour Town and one floor model. Said they will probably have more in a month, but there are none on order even at the moment so not expecting any soon.

      • +3

        Receipt is here.
        Can't find the paper receipt.

  • They sent me this email today:

We would like to offer the following options at no additional cost on your end. Please note that we are exerting efforts in finding all possible solutions to provide you the best outcome.

    1. Ninebot E22 ($749) - It has a max range of 22 km and a max speed of 20 kph.
    2. Mearth S Pro ($1,099) - With Mearth S Pro’s 32 kph max speed, 32 km max range, faster charging time, higher speed, more advanced front brakes, cruise control feature, and a swappable battery option, this electric scooter will surely leave you nothing but amazed. Feel free to see the brochure attached as your reference. Compared to Ninebot Max, Mearth S Pro is very handy and can be lifted easily. It is also faster, charge faster, more advance front brakes, cruise control feature and swappable battery. Most customers, leave their scooters in a safe place and just carry the battery to charge which is very convenient. I have attached a brochure for your reference.
    3. Mearth X Pro ($850) - It has 25 km max range, 25 kph max speed, dual suspension (front and rear) ambient lights. I have attached a brochure for your reference.
    4. You may choose to wait for the Ninebot Max stocks. We will let you know once we hear updates on the delivery.

    Pass. Bait and switch.

I'll take option 5. My money back ASAP ^&@$!^%

  • I took the Spro offer yesterday, does that mean if I ordered one more I can get a ninebot max? Lol.

But honestly the Spro is not bad so far, I will post day 2 experience shortly.

And I think it worth much more than what I paid so its a ok deal. Though I would prefer having ninebot max

newbie? bit suspicious with your comment. youre not affiliated with scootcity, arent you?

  • +1

    Refunded via. Paypal

    • Well that's good news.

  • +1

    Got refunded.

  • if you had to choose one of the alternatives that they offered, which one would you choose? Mearth S Pro is good?

    • +2

I'd take the Xiaomi M365 from JB hifi. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/592334
If they are dodgy now, imagine what after sales service would be like if something goes wrong.

Mearth S Pro is probably the best out of the 3 choices they have given but it is inferior to the segway max so you are not getting what you paid for.

      • thanks for the input.
Is it better than xiaomi m365?

        • Mearth has smaller batter and less range.
Probably isnt as well built and could break easier.
Both have 25kph speed limit out of the box but M365 has up to 34kph limit if modified while Mearth is 32km if changed.

      • you should read their refund policy, eventhough it's unused and unopened. 30% restocking fee (so 2000) plus you pay both ways delivery fees

        • That's a BS restocking fee.

  • +3

I mean the refund from PayPal says it all.

    “ MEARTH TECHNOLOGY PTY. LTD.”

Nothing more than a bait and switch company to try and get you to take an inferior product.

  • Refund policy: https://www.scootcity.com.au/returns-and-refunds/

If the scooter is unused and the package is unopened
    30% Restocking fee (flat-rate)
    Shipping fees (two ways)

If the scooter was used or the package was opened
Rental fee of $70 per week (computed from receive date until the date the issue was reported). The receive date is based on the confirmation of the courier.
    Shipping fees (two ways)

Still waiting for my refund 7 days later no response i have now opened a PayPal Case. ScootCity needs to be banned from ozbargain bait and switch scam tactics are not acceptable.

    • -5

Scoot city didn't post the deal, so I wouldn't say they should be banned for bait and switch. They probably had a few units and wanted to move them before the end of the year and didn't realise it would blow up. Now it is really dodgy they are not only bait and switching, but they are dangling the Segway Max as a carrot to some people who ordered multiple scooters if they take a Mearth scooter too.

So while I don't think they should be banned, this debacle is grounds to neg future deals by them though.

      • +5

Companies get judged by how they handle things when things go wrong. All this needed was a 'sorry we don't have the stock, would you like to wait or take a refund' and then prompt refunds. Instead they pushed the price up, then down, then advertised it on Facebook post, then started offering rubbish as a swap while still advertising the Scooter with a 'Backorder' notice on it.

If they had just put their hands up, admitted the mistake and refunded people there would be no problem now. They know the sales came from here, so they know how much traffic this site can drive to them for a good deal. Why not have a rep come on, sort it out and then build from there. Instead we had several new members come on and talk semi positive things about them, which may well be genuine but seems so suspicious.

At least a few people have had refunds.

      • +8

The 2nd post for this deal was made by a user which is suspected to be the rep for scootcity but pretending to be a customer.
Very sus. Account created in 25/12/20. Had only commented on the scoot city deals until he was called out and then they posted another ebay deal.
Was the first one to be given the new coupon code to get the discount.
Set their location as QLD but clearly live in Sydney as they picked up their Mearth.
Telling everybody about how good the Mearth scooter is probably with the hope that others will take the Mearth.
Claimed they bought a xiaomi m365 scooter just before xmas for $849 but surely they knew that JB was going to have it for $699 during boxing day sales. Or they could have bought the Segway that they wanted more for $799 from the JB deal.

  • would it make sense to wait for them to get it back in their stocks? any estimation?

    • +1

Who knows whether they will actually get stock though. It's been superseeded by a newer model so its not like they are waiting for the factory to produce more. They are claiming stock will take 3 months to arrive but it shouldn't take 3 months get stock sent somewhere.

      • It’s not a newer model as such, it’s a totally different model. Has shorter stem, smaller deck, no built in charger etc. it also has a different motor, but the original Max also can come with that motor now.

  • Don't forget to open your paypal case.

    • what if we paid via Afterpay?

      • I don't know, I never used it. I always use paypal if there is an option, because paypal has built in buyer protection.

      • +2

I got a refund via afterpay. I just kept hounding scootcity.
Also contacted afterpay directly letting them know that Scootcity wasn't responding. Said they would step in if no contact or replies for 5 business days.
Let Scoot city know that, and next day order was refunded.

        • how did you keep on hounding scootcity? Do they even pick up their phone?

        • +1

I’ll let afterpay know today if Scoot City don’t action anything, next payment in a couple of days. I have one in PayPal and one on Afterpay.

      • Afterpay told me to specifically make a request to [email protected] and give them 5 days, otherwise to get back to AfterPay with screenshot of the dated requests and other contacts.

        • +1

Refunded less than an hour after following the procedure requested by AfterPay.

My other one which was through PayPal still waiting for refund at this moment.

  • I have messaged Scootcity through email and through their website and I tried to call them but they have yet to reply. What are the chances that I actually get scammed here?

  • +1

Also a bit concerned about these guys. They are very fast to talk about the replacement options, but not the refund reference. Clearly this is their method to clear old stock.

Tomorrow I will raise the Paypal case, first time ever.

Is there any evidence of someone actually receiving the scooter at the discounted price?

  • +1

    Just got refunded.

  • Hi csider

Thank you for your order and sorry for the late response due to the holiday break.

We have received your order for Segway Ninebot Max. Please be advised that the stocks have gone out quickly as expected due to overwhelming orders. Our supplier has advised a delay in the shipping and could take up to 2 months. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

    Also offered the 3 options.

    Should I wait 2 months?

    • I would question how on earth a superseded model suddenly is coming 1 month earlier (most of us told 3 months). Especially when shipping times are generally 2 months alone from China.

      • It’s not superseded .. the G30 and G30L are different models, newer G30 have the “gen 2” motor that’s on the G30L.

    • +2

if they are genuine, they can offer this deal again when they have stocks, not when they don't have stocks.

  • +1

I just put in my refund request through PayPal after not being able to get in contact with Scootcity.

FOMO got me searching around and just got a 2nd hand XCT85 (Xiaomi M365 clone) for less than $200 off FB marketplace today and it's pretty fun.

  • +2

I got my refund but I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't get the scooter.

    • Me too.

  • +3

I got my refund also, but what a waste of time… Wont be using these guys again, no matter what the deal looks like.

Respect to the folks who used this deal to get the same price at JB.

  • +2

After riding the M365 clone around today I am now hoping I can get a refund on this deal rather than the scooter sent.

Scooters are a harsh ride compared to a bike. Unlike a bike there's no increasing stability with speed, if anything it's the opposite. I only went around bike paths with some small bumps but my knees and feet are feeling it. I'm aware that I don't have good technique and that it would get better over time, but for me I think I'm now decided that a bicycle is a much better solution for me than a scooter. I'll most likely be selling the M365 clone and putting the cash towards a new ebike.

Small gripe but the brake lever is on the left hand (same as segway max), whereas every bicycle I've used has the front brake on the right hand and the useless rear brake on the left. It's hard to retrain muscle memory like that. I just did some quick research and this is a problem across the world, with nations such as USA regulating left hand to be front brake while in Australia we have regulations to make the right hand the front brake. Something people need to be aware of. IMO scooter brakes should have to follow the same regulations as bicycle brakes.

I think anyone considering purchasing an electric scooter should try one out first, and also try out an ebike too.

  • Ok got my second refund, after another email to Mearth and leaving a further comment on the PayPal dispute. So fully refunded now.

    • Are you able to pm me with what you sent to Mearth, i haven't recieved any money back yet :(

      • +1

"Please refund order XXXX as agreed. Thanks."

I already had the dispute open and they had already agreed to refund in chat.

      • +1

They will do it faster if you have a dispute open with PayPal.

        • i opened a dispute on 31st december, but paypal said it could take up to 30 days for a response from scoot city and 90 days for a refund. ScootCity should 100% be banned from ozbargain lol. i just emailed mearth so i hope that speeds it up a bit. if not after 90 days no resolution ill just have to chargeback

          • +1

@harryozz: That does not sound right, once you open a dispute the first step is just talking with the company. You then normally have 20 days to reach an agreement with the company OR escalate it to a full dispute with PayPal. It is important to give the company some time to reply during that 20 days, but also important to escalate it before the dispute expires as you can't open it again. If you have to escalate it will usually be resolved within 30 days, but you should not need to go that far.

I got no replies at all within the PayPal dispute system, copied them on messages both in PayPal and to their email. After 5 days they refunded, which is quite acceptable timeframe.

            • @Pobman: Yeah 5 days is very acceptable hopefully i will soon get refunded

  • Has anybody got a better offer from ScootCity after knocking back the 3 options offered? Also, has anybody got a shipping notification? You would think that at least one person would get their order fulfilled if ScootCity is genuine which I highly suspect is not the case - it should be at least the OP if they are not sockpuppeting - sorry OP, but you are suspiciously quiet.

    • OP of the other scootcity max deal claimed there were about segway max's available to customers.
If they had 20, surely more people on here would have got shipping notifications or picked them up by now.
How they decided who got the scooters is anyone's guess. They offered it to customers that wanted refunds if they took 1 segway and 1 mearth.
Even the the early commenters on this deal haven't got one.
There was only 1 comment where 1 other person picked theirs up above. User Iromn. They said they ordered around 11am when people who ordered before that got the email.
Maybe they prioritised people who could pick up to save on shipping cost.

    • I received the same offer of 3 different scooters. In an attempt to sweeten the deal they offered me an extra battery “worth” $249. Didn’t take the deal and opted for a refund.

      • +2

I received the same upgraded offer. I strongly suspect that they didn't have any segway max available for sale and this deal was (posted) to try to move some mearth stock. I even suspect that the whole website/business is designed to just sell mearth via bait and switch. It is strange that the only person to get one segway and the only other person to see any stock are both new users. Sure, one user was offered a segway if they also buy a mearth, but that was a segway they "found" which might as well have been an used one.

As everyone know by now, ScootCity is just another business name for Mearth. As you can see from the threads for deals posted here previously by Mearth rep (for example, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/434137), they are pretty good at engaging in misleading potential customers: see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/434137#comment-6880648 for clear evidence of faking reviews.

        • Didn't even think to look for old Mearth deals on here.

      • Even including the spare battery, the battery capacity of the Mearth would be less than the Segway and you have to carry it around in your bag. Still not worth the same as the Segway even with the extra battery.

        Mearth s - 230.4Wh
        Mearth s pro - 360Wh (external/spare battery capacity is 130Wh)
Mearth s pro with spare battery - 490Wh
        Segway max - 551Wh

  • Eventually got my refund.

Happy to move on and never deal with Scootcity again.

  • I finally just received my refund. I ordered an E25 + External Battery (essentially the Segway E45) for $590, which was a cracking price. I paid via AfterPay. After Scoot City started contacting people to advise they only had stock of the E22 and two Mearth scooters I got concerned so I tried to contact them to find out about my order. I tried via Facebook Messenger, email, phone and their website chat - no success or replies to any of those methods. Ultimately no one contacted me and then on Monday I received the email saying they had no stock of the E25 and offered the standard three models (the standard email other people were received). I replied to the email and said no thanks, please refund. I had no response so I jumped on the website chat yesterday. I was further offered the E22 + External Battery (which for $590 all up is still a great price), but I said no thanks I wanted the E25. The chat took about 15 minutes and ended with the chat person saying they would send the refund request to their finance person to process. I just received a refund notification today so the saga is complete. Hopefully everyone else is getting their situation resolved as well.

  • Are they trolling us? lol
Asked for a refund on 29th of december get an email on the 7th of jan still trying to offer me their junk.

    "Hello Sexy,

We understand you requested for a refund. Before we process that, we'd like to offer extra battery free of charge on top of the free scooter upgrade. Please also note that this is free shipping.

Option 1, Ninebot E22 + Extra Battery ($299 value) - up to 44 km max range

Option 2, Mearth S Pro Upgraded Long Range Battery ($239 value) - up to 45 km max range

Option 3, Mearth X Pro+ External Battery ($299 value) - up to 50 km max range"

    • +1

This is actually disgusting. What a garbage company Scoot City is.

  • +1

I had one of the early orders #35XX, didn't receive those "out of stock" emails last year and thought that I got lucky and that maybe I'll receive my scooter.

Unfortunately, earlier this week, I received an email from Scoot City saying that they don't have any stock of the Ninebot Max and they tried very hard to sell me a "Mearth" instead. Opted for a refund immediately as I don't do business with scummy businesses.

  • Refund processed. Spent the cash on a project e-bike and parts that will be significantly better for me.

I've rode around on the m365 clone a bit now and my legs/feet no longer get sore from riding it. I still think for me, an e-bike is better in every aspect apart from portability (m365 at ~15kg is actually surprisingly portable).

At this stage I won't onsell the m365 clone. It's kind of fun and if you can find one for a good price then I think it's worth it ($180 in my case). It goes 25kmh and mine came with a 36v 12.8ah battery so it has a bit of range. Unfortunately I can't seem to pair it with my phone (bluetooth icon flashes on scooter but won't connect to any app, and is not visible in bluetooth searching), so I can't remove the speed limit or change KERS behavior.

    • Friend has a clone and we found an app by searching Google based on its default Bluetooth code. App called Honor worked in the end, his Bluetooth started with M0Robot.

      • Thanks, I think Honor is called 'scooter' now? I've tried it on multiple phones but still no luck. I can't see it in any phones bluetooth pairable devices, and no app can see it (if it was hidden from the normal bluetooth settings).

        Things I have tried:
*Battery pull for a few minutes.
*M365 reset procedure - does not work on this clone
        *Multiple phones iOS/Android
        *Location services are on
*Xiaomi app, ninebot app, scooter app, m365 tools app, Mi Robot app.

I just opened it up and the only information I can find on the controller inside the scooter doesn't help: https://i.imgur.com/zCnEL0U.jpg

I wouldn't be surprised if this particular clone doesn't actually have bluetooth despite the icon flashing at me.

        • +1

If you can't see it in Bluetooth apps it's not in the right mode, or doesn't actually have Bluetooth just a light :) my friends we could see in all apps but only Honor worked.

Could be it's paired to something already and can't pair to another, I think the max is like that. There is a procedure in the max to reset Bluetooth along the lines of holding brakes and full throttle for so many seconds and turning on. Maybe something similar for yours… End if the day though there was very little we could adjust in his fake anyway. Could turn off cruise control and lower the max speed. Custom firmwares etc wouldn't work anyway with a fake board even if you could connect.

  • For anyone who is still waiting for delivery of the Segway Max, I recieved the following from Scoot City this week:

"We are expecting the Ninebox Max to arrive on the last week of March. As per previous communication, due to overwhelming orders, we will not be able to fulfill all orders on that batch. We will prioritize those who ordered first.

In case you did not get one on the first batch, you may decide to wait for the 2nd batch of stocks which will arrive in April.

Otherwise, you may still choose the special offer to switch on our available models in stock. You will not pay the price difference. This means there is no additional cost on your end.

    1. Ninebot E22 + Extra Battery - flat free tyes, dual-braking system, 20 kph max speed, etc.

    2. Mearth S - 32 max speed, hot-swappable battery, 32 km max range, advanced braking system, cruise control system, etc.

    3. Mearth S Pro - 32 max speed, hot-swappable battery, 45 km max range, 10 inch wheels, etc.

These 3 models are in stock and can be shipped as soon as possible. Shipping is still free if you decide to switch."

  • +1

Has anyone received their scooter, or had further communication with Scoot City as to when you will receive it (if still waiting)?

    • Somtime in April I've been told Fingers Crossed

    • +1

      received mine yesterday, finally!!!!
