    you have to port out and port back in.
    You can port out to any provider

    My wife 's plan was expiring on Thursday and she was able to get credit on new sim loaded on existing number via chat. She just had to use new sim going forward but didn't port out.

      sometimes they do allow and transfer one sim credit to the existing one. It's worth trying though I recon.
      If not then use the port out/port in method.

        Yes port out option is always there but it saved her $10 and hassle. Apart from Boost, I can't think of any Telco which allows to activate sim without initial minimum recharge of $10.

    Just to clarify it's a sim having a $300 credit. It's not a recharge card that can be added to the existing sim am afraid.

          The other was a "gift ward" credit from ebay. Allows it to be applied if paying via credit card.

          so total off for me was $40 - bringing it down to $200
