  • Comes up fine for me. Got one. OW has it for 99 but not available online!

    • It doesn't come up for me and I can't add to cart either. :(

  • Thanks, grabbed 3.

Same price at goodguys but not available .
I'm sure it's cheap but it has no local storage …

    • Then how do you store videos?

      • Seems like they have a subscription service $12pm/$120 yearly (not sure if US$ I just skimmed the article) , and without it you don't get the super cool features such as facial recognition and barely any cloud storage, no local storage. So it pretty much sounds like u have to subscribe otherwise it's just good for a live feed

        • +1

It's available for either $9Mth/$90 a yr for Event based recordings (When it detects Motion & Sound) & they're kept for 30 days or it's $18mth/$180yr for 60 days of Event recordings & 10 days of 24/7 Video Recording. All you get for free is viewing of snapshots from the past 3hrs & maybe live im guessing but not sure.

        • FK that.. get a Logitech or something

          • @G-rig: do Logitech make something like this?

            • -1

              @ltwo: Isn't it just a ball camera?

              • @G-rig: a webcam? a webcam won't do what this does without software implementation.

                • @ltwo: Ok will have to look into them:)

          • +1

@G-rig: Yi cameras do this exact thing plus give local storage for a fraction of the full price. Roughly $60 vs $250. Indoor and outdoor, works with Chromecast and best mini as well.

Personally I want Google to see inside my home and keep that in their data storage Banks.

    • +8

Yeah they'll enjoy those hours and hours of you using OzBargain every day.

  • Very good system. Whilst video quality is nowhere as good/sharp as Hikvision, it makes up shortfall in having excellent + easy to use app.

For those who don't pay subscription, you can use it as an intruder alert for FREE.
e.g. You can set it to notify you (via phone push notification + email) whenever it hears loud sounds or detects people or any other motion. This alone is WORTH heaps if you value home security. For example if I place it in my kitchen, it pings me as soon as someone enters the house. Then I can pop open live feed to see what's going on and yes, TALK to the other person. (It has 2-way audio). Only con I can think of is the outdoor IQ Nest camera intercom is WAY louder (2x) than the Indoor version, however seems like you can only get it in the US. I paid like $350 for my Nest Indoor IQ and this is a bargain. You can view live feed on the web or via phone/tablet app.

Note: It uploads like 200-300gb of data/month (it's continuously recording)

It sounds good, but you can get a two pack of Eufy 2C cameras with a homebase and they can do all of the above, indoor or outdoor and save recordings for events for free without a subscription. I've only just installed mine yesterday so haven't found any issues yet but for the $350 we paid, I can't fault them.

    • +1

Video in the notification itself with facial recognition also makes it really easy to see a video of the event right away without opening the app, just by pulling down the notification.

It also has Google Assistant built in to the camera if you want to use it like a Google Home. The speaker's not good quality for music tho.

  • I think it's no longer available can't add to cart.

  • +2

So no pan or tilt, no onvif, and only indoor use. No way to store footage locally or on a hub. Why is this so expensive again?

    • +1

      So no pan or tilt

It does software pan and tilt with its 4K sensor and 1080p output.

No way to store footage locally or on a hub.

Which also means if a thief sees the camera or base and steals it, you don't lose your footage.

Why is this so expensive again?

You're paying for features like people detection, familiar face recognition, tracking view (zooms in and follows people), integration with your existing Google Home setup (no need to run a separate app in the background), and Google's security team protecting your account and cloud recordings (vs companies like Reolink).

Just like how there are Xiaomi phones and Samsung phones, there are Nest cameras and Reolink cameras. They are aimed at different markets and do some things differently.

      • 4k cameras with pan and tilt. Local storage with cloud uplink. Understand different products are marketed at different needs but the functionality of this device doesn't justify the price imho.

What do you mean by zooms in and tracks people? It's all digital pan, zoom and tilt so why not just record the entire image? Unless it only records in 1080 crop mode?

        • I does indeed only record in 1080P . The more compression used the less they have to store .
The fact that they are deeply discounting them and that they are (no longer available) is the most worrying thing IMHO .
How long are they going to continue to fund the infrastructure for the subscription based storage of recording ? There doesn't seem to be an IQ2 that I can see .

    • Because if Google and Amazon gave their products away for free people would realise that they, the consumer, are the actual product.

  • China is showing us all what a surveillance state will look like - social credits.

Large companies are essentially headless organisms whose only job is to grow and make more money.

When processing footage of the inside of your house can make someone money …

Read 1984. Read about East Germany.

Can’t think of anything more crazy that letting one of the largest corporations in history constantly watch you in your own home.

    • +3

They'll really enjoy the hours and hours of footage of you using OzBargain.

    • I'll only turn mine on when I leave via a smart plug

    • +1

Can’t think of anything more crazy that letting one of the largest corporations in history constantly watch you in your own home.

Do you have evidence that Google staff are actually sitting down in front of a screen and watching live camera feeds from millions of cameras constantly, or are you just spreading FUD?

      • +1

You just need to hack into their nest cameras to watch them watch you…. Watching them 😳

        • Nestception

      • Lol not google staff. Google is the worlds largest advertising company that tracks and stores many points of data on you and your behaviour. This tracking is all done by machines. The output is a profile of you. Are there any behaviours in your own home that you would not want someone else to know about. Maybe not. What about those behaviours in 10, 20 years time? Social norms change. They are not throwing away any data. In fact you are explicitly allowing them to process the data and extract information from it. Some of this information has some utility (marginal at best) to you. But it has a lot more utility to Google, even if not now, then in the future.

    • Can't think of anything more crazy than thinking someone would get paid to sit there and constantly watch you. Are you a supermodel or a celebrity??

    • And how about the 0.001% chance that someone employed by Google would even waste their time doing so. No offence but your life is unlikely to be important enough for Google to one day disregard all their privacy policies and lose billions on the sharemarket.

You can't buy it from Google store

      • I guess that would be a 'no' then? 😬

Even without the social credits & the most trustworthy (China) government, you have the enforced CIA, the 5 eyes & collaborators (Apple, Google. MS, Amazon, FB, telcos, social media…) that can follow all your metadata (location, spend, contacts, etc).
Let's stop the paranoia (that the politicians & Apple enjoy) & focus on productive cooperation - if you have nothing bad to hide.
You know how data science helps elections (eg. Trump), sales (Amazon/Google…), marketing/ peer pressure (Apple iCult), etc, to get max profits out of you?

Isn't this type of sites good way to overspend because you have peers that confirm they bought it too?
I prefer honest quality/useability assessment rather than 'I'm like you' impulsive spender.
Let's see good use cases rather than me too.
Cheers & hopefully better New'21 Year. Don't burn all your oil/petrol to reach your goals.

    • “Bad” is a changing standard for those who control your data. Think 1984
