ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: 120,000 Bonus Qantas Points + $200 Cash Back ($3000 Spend in First 3 Months) $425 Annual Fee @ ANZ

976

Doing my annual cycle of credit cards and noticed that the ANZ FF Black is running their popular 120k points + $200 cashback promo.

I'm sure there'll be comments about not being able to fly anywhere but $225 for 120k points is still a good deal imo (can always be used on the qantas store, worth about $600 in giftcards).

Personally I'll just be accumulating the points for when I can travel.

ANZ FF Platinum also has a promo of 75k FF points/$295 annual fee/$150 cash back if your income is less than $75k, but you might be better off applying for this deal unless FF points are important to you.

Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

  • Will i be eligible if i already have ANZ rewards platinum card

Same experience as some others too, application closed without any explanation despite providing required evidence. Useless call centre. Unless you know someone who's higher up in the branch, almost impossible to get it easily I reckon. 700+ credit score at the time

No comment on the relative joys of dealing with Citibank, but some might also be interested in Qantas Money Premier Platinum Credit Card 100,000 QFF Points ($4000 Spend/3 Months) + $199 Annual Fee.

That offer is extended to 24/02/2021, and includes 75 bonus status credits and 2 lounge passes.

Re ANZ, I didn't encounter too much difficulty with my most recent Rewards application, despite being a churner. I'm not looking forward to the QM/Citibank application but it should get there in the end.

  • In the sin bin for ANZ until October for me. 12 month exclusion period… just gotta wait I suppose.

  • Can I get this as a join card for myself and partner?

    • +1

Yes, you can. You can request multiple cards as part of the signup process.

thanks guys. Comments were super helpful.

I decided to go for Qantas AMEX card with $200 cashback instead.
Applied and got approved at the end of application. Card to arrive in 5-7 business days. One of the fastest credit card approval process I ever did :D :D :D

P.S - Qantas currently has this offer - "Register for an extra 20,000 bonus Qantas Points" expires tonight though. - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earn-points/comp…

I applied for "The Qantas American Express Premium Card" - 80,000 points (fees - $249 pa with $200 back). This plus bonus point will bring the total points to 100,000 for $49

You can also choose the "The Qantas American Express Ultimate Card" $100,000 points ($450pa with $200 back).

    • Do you have a screenshot of this offer? I applied over the weekend and got approved yesterday for that same card, but never saw the extra 20k on offer

  • I don’t have a screenshot. Looks like they have taken it down from the website as well.

You have to register to get the points (go to Qantas bonus points page > click register and sign in)

Eligibility - No Qantas points earning credit card in the last 1 year

This the email I got from them:

    • Ah wish I knew about this, I signed up via the link in the original post rather than via the Qantas FF website :(. Ah well, still get 80000 points :)

I must say the application process for ANZ is 1 foot short of rediculous….cant bear to relive the details but its tedious as others have mentioned to the point i just said its not worth the hassle and gave up.

  • I have had a credit card with ANZ every 12 months for the last several years, and it was always a very easy approval process. However this time around it was a confusing and long process where they would ask for the same info, even though it was provided in the same email chain.

Took two weeks but got approved, I hope they bring back on shore their credit card processing team. It is clearly not working out of India.

  • Got declined like the others. took two weeks and many emails. apparently its about the paperwork you can provide and not about how much income you have as stated by staff over the phone…

    • Same but I got rejected after 2 days, being ask tones of questions. Not worth it

  • Anyone know if i use the card to for gift card purchase via nibrewards website is that counted as an eligible purchase?

    • I don't see why not.

  • How long does it take after spending the money to credit the points ?

  • After numerous calls to verify the same details, multiple follow up emails sent by me, and the same documents sent two or three times each, they've finally approved my application. Points Club Plus here I come!

  • Same bad experience with ANZ application.
Provided all documents required then they went all silent. They'd send sms immediately before they call but sometimes no call. No reply to emails…

Local consultants are unable to assist and can only request a callback from the offshore credit card team. They eventually gave me a call requesting the same document again… their followup email to summarise what was discussed was different yet again…

  • Oh man just noticed I got charged the $370 + $55 for last year's January deal on this same card. Thankfully they were happy to reverse the fee if I cancel.

  • So in the OP 3 diff options are offered:

    • ANZ Qantas Black - 120k QFF points - $225 - 18.7c per point
    • ANZ Qantas Platinum - 75k QFF points - $145 - 19.3c per point
    • ANZ Rewards - 50k Velocity points - $45 - 9c per point

That last card seems like a great deal actually

    • Psst.. your numbers are a little bit off.

Also, you can do an ANZ rewards card and a ANZ frequent flyer. They have seperate 12month blackouts for the two different card types.. note the fine print

      • your numbers are a little bit off.

Which ones? The cost or the calc?

        Good point (y)

          0.187c/pt, etc.

          At 18.7c/pt, it's horrendous value!

  • Any card deals with no annual fee? I remembered last year St George Amplify has one

  • Reached the minimum spend in my first statement, but didn't get the bonus points.

Just wondering if this is the same for anyone else? I seem to remember ANZ honouring straight away last card/year lol.

Might give them a call tomoz.

    • Had a look back and I was wrong - it was actually ANZ that took ages to send me the bonus points last year. Doh!

    • In my experience, ANZ have always been the slowest of any of the major CC issuers.

From past experience, they waited the full 90 days to issue them at best, and worst case required follow up to get them credited.

  • After reading all the dramas above I was expecting the worst BUT it was too easy. Applied yesterday, uploaded required docs and approved today.

  • Thought it was going to be a nightmare applying for this. Applied Thursday afternoon, asked to send payslips same day. Got a call Friday morning, asked a couple of questions then was approved.

    • I've come to learn that i really shouldn't take everything on the internet too seriously. I guess it's all relative. For all i know people's circumstances are very different which is why they've found it harder to get approved

      • They might have lifted their game, who knows. Like I have mentioned in my previous post I have applied for several cards with ANZ over the years and this was the first one where I had trouble.
And it seems alot of people have had similar experiences.

  • Got approved the next day. Now waiting for the card.

  • looking at t&c,
Eligible purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Points. Purchases which are not eligible to earn Points are described in the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Terms and Conditions, for example fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Points.

a bit different from other cc provider (that give bonus when opening and spending) usually they will say about Bpay or similar are NOT eligible.
anyone can confirm we can use BPAY or pay any utilities bills and still counted into the minimum $3000 spending?

    • BPAY doesn't count (it's explicitly excluded if you read the T&Cs). As much as possible use any direct pay options with your utilities and/or direct debit.

      • "As much as possible use any direct pay options with your utilities and/or direct debit."

so if the AGL direct debit our bill then it is not BPAY ?
how about if i go to AGL website, login then pay my bill from there (enter my cc numbers). will this eligible?

        • yeah both are fine.
Also I just re-read the T&Cs and cannot find any BPAY exclusion references. I'm sure I've seen it before but somehow not there anymore. I wouldn't risk it anyway.

          • @gimme: in the past i think i tried that second method (login to AGL website and pay from there)
but CC statement is still showing AGL so if the bank picky they will say that is BPAY equivalent transaction as BPAY stands for bill payment ?

            • @CyberMurning: no that's different. If you pay directly on AGL website it's fine. You can pay bills using your CC, just not use a third party like 'BPAY'. It all has to do with fees and how much money your cc provider makes from transactions etc. Reason they've gotten very picky in recent times is because the govt 'helped' us by legislating against certain fees which made it harder for banks to profit from CC transactions and thereby harder for the savvier crowd (e.g Ozb) to profit from deals.

              • @gimme: yea make sense. i mean without using the BPAY from anz website, they cant say we are paying bill, —— we could be paying for a mobile phone (if this is telstra, or a kitchen tap (if agl).

  • Offer is back. Just applied, got an application number and states email has been sent with instructions - nothing received yet. Is this a common occurrence?

  • +1

    Application went smooth for me.
Applied 18/3, sent docs 19/3, approved 20/3, received card today 26/3.

Just applied for this yesterday as the online application portal was finally up after being down for a few days. I think the online portal where you can upload your documents is new? Uploaded some documents like payslips and rental statements, received a call from them after a few hours asking me to submit those documents LOL. Sent via email again and now just waiting…

I have home loan package with ANZ —- I did reserach from previous promotion and people mentioned:

Only attach it to the BreakFree package after you received your 100,000 points. You won't get the bonus points if you attach it befoe

The question becomes when I apply, they don't know if I am a package customer?

BTW, not sure if it is only for ANZ, I had home loan package with St George and NAB beofore and never had a problem of getting bonus points and annual fee wavied (I even didn't apply for a wavied annual fee)

  • Anyone know if you can get a pro-rata refund of your annual fee with anz?

  • +1

It's been 1 week since I applied and today had my 10th call. Each time a new person rings who has not idea about discussion with previous credit assessor.

Most ridiculous process and incompetent staff.

  • To clarify, I can get the ANZ FF Black, then cancel, then get the ANZ Rewards Black and get both sets of points?
