1810

Just posted today it seems, there are a few retailers doing it for $1995 + delivery

Appears to be a backorder from the conversation I had getting mine, expecting it at the end of the month and doing local store pickup.

    • That sux. I'm put off this TV from such reports. Holding out now for 2021 Qled Neo.

      • +1

Outside of the dark spots, its a nice TV, there is some noticeable lines when panning in the cricket, I think its the DSE (Dirty Screen Effect) but its highly possible I just got a dodgy panel. It works well with the PS5, I'm just a bit bummed about the length of time to get a response, it was kind of an unnecessary purchase to begin with because existing 55" Sony, albeit old, was still a nice TV.

I think it's the luck of the draw, if the panel was good, at this price, would be a brilliant TV.

Also it has ad's on the main menu page, but you can block this on your router.

    • Support from Samsung is terrible, ive experienced it first hand, and i wont buy another Samsung TV again because of it.. LG or Sony next time.

      • Sony support is not good based on my recent experience. Received a TV with a scratch and they refused to accept that I received it like that and wouldn't do anything about it.

        • Damn, that sucks to hear :(. Who does offer good support then??? Nobody?

        • Thats terrible!

          • @DrMilan: That's if you can even get a response from them, I had to follow up every week for a month and escalate the matter a number of times to get that response.

    • You could cut the middleman and go straight to Samsung if you wanted? Or you might be within a refund period given is it faulty then buy again?

  • I was planning to get the Samsung 75" Q80, instead got the Hisense 75Q8 for $2290 on boxing day weekend. Its got good reviews. However not good for gaming!. Comes with 3 year on site warranty. Its picture quality is equivalent to Q90T, if not better. I believe it has over 180 local dimming zones, Much more that Q90T/Q95T, which as ~132 dimming zones.

    • that's really good price for Q8. where did you buy that from? I want to upgrade my old Sony mainly to watch Sports, netflix. not much for the gaming.

      • From HN, price match with Videopro as Videopro was charging ~$140 for delivery.

        https://www.videopro.com.au/p-13427-hisense-75-75q8-ultra-hd…

        • This is precisely why I opted for Hisense 85 Q8 during Boxing day sale. The black images are close to 70% compared to an OLED with 1000 nits brightness.

          • @vivmahi: May i ask, which store and what price did you end up buying ?
            Thanks

            • @kcool_00: I got the 85 inch Hisense Q8 from TGG at $3600 with complimentary Google TV worth $99 since I was after Android TV.

        • Thanks a lot, it has gone up to $2980 now

  • +1

I am so glad that I didn't upgrade my 2018 65" Q7FN because of my Xbox Series X

By Black Friday this year, we will have a whole another level of TVs.
HDMI 2.1 will be way better supported and way better than just 1 HDMI supporting it.

Unless you don't have a high-end TV already which allows you to buy TVs way cheaper than last year and you might not be able to afford 2021/2021 models, it is not worth doing the upgrade now.

  • This TV doesn’t have Dolby Vision I suppose? I’m not in a hurry, so will wait for a 75” with Dolby Vision under $2k from a reputable brand. Not sure how long I have to wait though.

    • +1

No, Samsung don't like DV for some reason. HDR10 support only.

    • +2

Yep, don't believe any of the Samsung have Dolby Vision

    • +2

HDR10+ is Samsung's creation to rival Dolby Vision. HDR10+ is open source and does not require expensive licensing fee like DV!. So I don't thing Samsung will ever implement DV in their TVs.

      • Yeah I wish HDR had won the war, just like I wish DisplayPort had won as well for the same reason, but the market has spoken and Samsung will, at some stage, need to concede defeat.

    • +1

Thanks for the comments. Looks like I won’t be buying Samsung TVs any time soon then.
      https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/tv/it-is-time-for-dolby-…

      • Samsung is introducing HDR10+ Adaptive for 2021 TVs to rival DV IQ!

        • +2

I guess, similar to other format wars, it’s more about which one is getting more support than the absolute IQ, and it seems Samsung’s HDR10+ is losing.

          • +1

@GreenRomeo: Spot on - like many technology battles through history it's not necessarily the better tech that wins. As a consumer you just go with the flow eventually.

  • This one or lg OLED better?

    • +1

Watch anything by Vincent Teoh (HDTVTest) on YouTube. OLED creams QLED

The Problem for most of us plebs is the price.

      • Is burn in an issue with 2020 models?
I also have a very bright lounge room and read that cba be an issue with oled so started looking elsewhere

        • I have a C8 and have no issues with burn in.

I don't play games with persistent HUDs though on it.

        • Burn in is practically a thing of the past - you'd need to run static content for days to cause it now. With a bright room you might want to go for a TV with higher peak brightness than OLED though and an anti reflection covering on the panel.Q95T is one of the brightest around - worth a look, also the Sony x9500h.

Best off judging with your own eyes.

    • OLED is better but is also double the price.

  • I called Harvey Norman. Apparently they have no stock even in their warehouse. The guy said with the 55", Samsung is promising to have them early Feb but with this one there is no ETA.

  • got the 75" Black Friday Sales, issue with earc sound drops for about half a second between 10min and 30 mins.. annoying. internal TV sound is fine but is an issue Samsung should fix.. Have Xbox Series X and is great in game mode… Great picture Quality.

  • I heard the AU model doesn’t have all the capabilities

  • +4

Long time stalker, first post to share a few thoughts on the Q80Ts.

Got the 55" version and runs both the ps5/Series X nicely. Have yet to test the 120hz on anything as of yet.
Only thing I don't like is the 'Purple Vignetting' effect around the edges of the display. Only really noticeable across the bottom in dark scenes. Not complaining too much as I was bumped into one for free from a faulty RU8000 and have seen it instore too.

    Link for reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/4kTV/comments/k47bew/my_q80t_have_t…

    • +1

Ive never noticed this on mine. Interesting.

      • +1

It might be more a hit and miss with Samsung QA? When I noticed it on mine, I went back in store and noticed it on a 55 and 65 display but given it was a nice gestured upgrade from JB and it only shows on very dark gaming scenes so it doesn't phase me. Any other scenes / light scenes look amazing however and the FALD is great.

        • Ah ok. I don’t do any gaming on it so maybe that’s why. It’s not something I’ve noticed on any other content

  • +1

great price got one thanks OP

  • +2

Ah this is nice but wanting the Samsung Frame :(

    • Same here, what sort of price range are you expecting for 65 inch?

      • The Frame is supposed to be cheaper than the Q80T, so this price would be nice for a start.

      • I’ll be happy with 2K, although a price like this would be nice

    • 'Frame' design aside, isn't this a better television on a technical level?

      • +1

Yes for panel and everything, its just the design factor missus’ loves

  • +1

Need a new TV but, while I can afford this, money is a bit tight at the moment. Buy this or buy an eko for 1/3 the price to tie me over for a year or two?

Just gonna end up using it for Netflix etc, no gaming aside from a bit of switch. Until now we have just watched on our laptops and played switch on a super old cheapo jbhifi TV. I feel like going something like an eko will feel like a big upgrade already and leaving me with the opportunity for another big upgrade in a year or two.

    • put in bitcoin for a few wks and this TV could be yours :)

    • +1

If you’re going to upgrade in a year or so, save that $600 or so for a better or larger TV later this year.
That’s what I’d do but that’s me and not my money…

    • +8

You just said money is a bit tight. Buy the bloody Eko mate.

  • +9

    Thanks, OP!

Purchased the 65" Q70T online at the Boxing Day Sales last week for $2095, after missing the bargain of $1795 a few months ago.
Still not dispatched - called the store and not due in stock to the end of the month.
Cancelled the order and jumped on this one instead - cheaper price, better model!

    • +1

glad you got a great outcome on that one!

    • Was it from JB?

      • TGG

  • What buyer protection do we get if we order a product that is 100% not in stock with any of these stores, and then the price drops before they deliver it to us?

Can we rightfully cancel the order as they never delivered the product?

    • That's what the good guys told me.

  • What are the advantages to having a lot of dimming zones for a VA panel? I thought VA panels have pretty good blacks. From my reading you will get much better perceived contrast from high CRI bias lighting (6500K hazy blue skies), than trying to get infinite black and infinite white ;)

I have a CX65 and recently got a Q60 for relations. TBH the Q60 looks pretty good to me (esp for the price).

    Cheers

    • +1

VA contrast is good but nowhere near true black, which is what you get with dimming. Problem is if you don't have have enough zones (which is the case with most LCD) you get the halo effect.

Bias lighting is great but only goes so far. I have both OLED and VA LCD and it's pretty easy to see the difference between them, even with bias lighting. In a brightly lit room it's much harder though.

  • Has anyone ever had lucky haggling / negotiating at these stores on already discounted TVs like this?

Knowing I can buy Harvey Norman or JB gift cards at a discount, I could potentially pre-purchase say $1800-$1900 of Gift Cards at 5-7% off, then try to negotiate the floor staff down on price?

    • +2

I am no expert in this but when I worked in retail we would only really discount if we had a margin to do so. the 25% discount on RRP probably leaves very little margin, but generally we only did this kind of discount if we wanted to clear stock.

Whats more likely is that Samsung is clearing house and they have dropped the wholesale price, hence why JB, GG and HN have all dropped price at the same time (unless they are responding to eachother).

Maybe worth seeing if you can do the negotiation then buy the cards?

    • +4

Called the good guys and got it down to $1966

  • wow paid over $2000 for the Q60T just a month ago and i hate it

    • what dont you like about it?

      • +4

Blurry, slow, blacks look cloudy, things aren't clear. I've played around with the settings and idk, doesn't look good to me.

        • fyi for those reading - mine's a diff model, Q60T and the listing is for a Q80T

  • Called the good guys in Tuggeranong ACT and they did it for $1966 pickup. :).
Not sure if it fits in my Kluger. The guys said you can add delivery($55) then.

    • You can easily check that .. Check the packaging measurements. If you can put your seats down then go as far forward in your front seats the length should be OK, the width of your boot (height of the TV) probably best to check… Lol

I fit a 1.8m long couch without it's legs in my xtrail got lucky with the width.. loll I'm sure kluger is bigger…

      • That's if you are happy to lay the tv down?

        • Yeh standing it up might be tough I’d say … unless Kruger’s ceiling is really high…. can easily measure a that too 🤞🏻

  • +1

My beloved Panny plasma is actually in need of replacement now, as it can take several goes to get it to turn on. Once the pic is up it's fine, but sometimes you need to spam the physical power button 10+ times to get it to fire up properly.

Ideally, I'd wait for the next round of releases and get a more capable HDMI 2.1 compatible panel, but probably can't wait nine months. What's the goss on what is coming? Maybe I should grab something like this and forego the odd experience of 120fps gaming!?

    • +1

      This has 4k 120hz.

    • +1

      1 Port is hdmi 2.1 :)

    • It's almost certainly the remote contacts are going.

      • It's a sad day - the end of an era! A new era beckons :)

    • +4

Ironically your Panny plasma probably has better picture quality than the Q80T, especially if it's a later one with Kuro tech. Sure this is brighter with more pixels but the Panny would cream it on contrast and motion. TVs with new mini/micro-LED panel technology are coming this year from multiple manufacturers. The premium models should basically be like OLED but brighter with no burn-in. Personally I'd wait for those if you want a significant upgrade.

      • -4

Anyone who said Panasonic Plasma is better than Q80T should have gone to SpecSavers.

        • +2

          Panasonic VT60 (native)
          Contrast ratio: 30000:1
          Motion resolution: 1080 lines

          Samsung Q80T (native)
          Contrast ratio: 3000:1
          Motion resolution: 300 lines

As above Kuro-based Panny plasmas kick this TVs arse in contrast and motion. Probably shadow detail too as LCDs tend to crush the blacks.

      • +3

Agreed with @Ryballs and I bought a mid range Q80T in 2020 to "upgrade" my perfectly working mid range Panasonic ST60 plasma from 2013 which I have held onto. Adjusted for inflation they cost roughly the same when I bought them. I wouldn't say one or the other is the overall better TV as they have different pros and cons, but the plasma is certainly capable of being better in several key areas you pickup with your EYES so it could be you @kml22 that needs to go to spec savers :P

        ST60 plasma wins:
-smoother motion handling, better TV to watch sports
-contrast ratio is higher, so a lot of typical 1080p SDR content can have better colors and details when compared side by side
-the blacks are so black duuuude, this thing has zero backlight bleed and perfect image uniformity with no vignetting effect, although the QLED is still fine for night viewing with no major backlight bleed it just doesn't quite look the same
-viewing angles and reflection handling are better, important when viewed by multiple people and under different lighting conditions
-it weighs a lot and this is probably due to being a plasma panel but the whole build quality is also much better with metal construction vs plastic, the stand is similar but also has the ability to swivel

        Q80T QLED wins:
-a good 4K source can produce a much sharper image even though the panel is 5" bigger
-it does get much brighter and HDR can also give it a sort of "color pop" advantage with certain content, however the plasma claws some of those advantages back thanks to the better reflection handling and contrast ratio requiring less brightness to look good
-creams the plasma in gaming, upgrades like 120hz, far lower input lag (5ms vs 50ms), and freesync support puts it way out ahead for games whilst the poor old plasma makes everything feel sluggish and unplayable to me so it just isn't used for gaming
-smart OS and remote are actually modern and functional, also providing a decent source for the TV whilst the plasma OS and remote is crap so it needs an external device hooked up, doesn't matter if you were already going to do this
-overall much better sounding speakers that don't sound muddy or distorted at all which can be rare for built in speakers, irrelevant if you hook up better external speakers
-more modern blacked out aesthetic and slimmer bezels, lower weight and power usage

The Q80T wins in some ways purely thanks to having a more modern feature set and being better for gaming, yet the ST60 still holds its own and is perfectly capable of looking as good if not better than the new QLED under many movie watching scenarios especially when viewing older 1080p source content. Did I mention it does 3D too??
My Q80T so far has no manufacturing defects that others have reported (other than a little squeak in the remote) and is still a nice TV for my purposes all things considered, but I'll likely want to upgrade it to either an OLED or 2021 QLED should reviews be good so that I can finally say I upgraded my plasma for real…maybe I should have just jumped for the Q95T at a minimum though and I'd be less inclined to upgrade so soon.

        • +2

I know what you mean mate. I upgraded to OLED in 2014 but still miss my plasma sometimes, like when panning shots occasionally stutter or I have trouble making out the finer details in dark scenes. Also my plasma was basically a heater so kept me warm in winter (not so good in summer though).

          • +1

@Ryballs: Remember that episode of game of thrones "The Long Night", everyone had difficulty watching it because it was so dark? I couldn't understand what the problem was, I even went back and rewatched it but had no issue seeing everything they wanted me to see.
To confirm I didn't have superhuman vision I watched scenes on a mates TV (cheaper LED backlit screen) and could see the problem; without a pitch black room and fiddling with contrast/brightness etc it was indeed harder to view, and when it was finally viewable you could see all the backlight bleed on the display.

Although the Q80T is fine for dark scenes, I'm thinking about selling it soon in order to save up for a new 2021 OLED or QLED (if they're any good). Meanwhile I'll be happy for my old plasma to take the place in the living room, and be limited to gaming on the PC at the desk for now which doesn't bother me.

        • +1

Still have my 10+ year old Pana Plasma in the bedroom. Bloody thing weighs a ton. Still keeps going though.
For FTA / Sport it still looks pretty damn good. I reckon the footy looks better on it than my Hisense 4k…

        • +1

I'm still rocking my Samsung PS50B850 Plasma from 2009. 600Hz sub field view. All pixels still firing =D

I think the stand on this thing weighs as much as the TV…

  • Still waiting for a 75" deal, and one that actually has stock availability

    • Some orders from BF have not been fulfilled yet.

  • +1

I have the 55inch version of this TV which is the perfect size for our unit. Very good TV imo. I use it for 4k, HD/SD, sports. I dont find any issues with it at all. Sound isnt bad but like most TV's a soundbar is a worthy add on. Tizen is very stable for me and speedy when moving through the menus. Ive found it better than Android TV if im honest. Only downside to tizen is the limited apps.

I used the TV settings from rtings.com.

  • Still waiting on my 85 from November. No ETA!

  • Thanks OP. Just picked up one in stock in Bing Lee who were selling same price.

  • Got my Q80T 85" NOV specials. TV looks great. Only problem is "Do not set ur Game mode ON or Auto" if u have a Nintendo Switch.
after 10-20min Screen will have one dimming spot stay brighter. to reset it, i need to turn off my TV over 5-10min.
Check with Samsung Support they replied is i cant do anything >.<!!!
    Don't think i can get a refund.

    • What did you pick up the 85 inch for?

  • Called The Good Guys (WA) and they have no stock and no ETA. They mentioned the current batch was due 11th Nov 2020 but that still hasn't arrived.
Salesperson wouldn't let me place an order for it over the phone. (Though you still can online).

    • Rep at HN reckons end of the month here (QLD) and I ordered over the phone including deposit, dont know if thats any help to you or not :)

  • Just ordered mine from HN Auburn, picking up tomorrow! Thanks for the post OP! Been looking at this for a while now.

  • For PS5 should I go for this or X9000H?

  • You would do no harm getting either. Not sure if the firmware for the X900H has been updated to support the full HDMI 2.1 yet.
Really, how many games support 4K@120hz?

  • I'm on the fence OZB's - did a bit of reading on Whirlpool and other sites and seems there are some common issues with judder / vertical banding when panning scenes. Sounds less than acceptable. Sports also not great.

Unsure if it impacts all panels but seems Sammy won't play ball if you're not happy with yours. I might pass, and check out the 2021 range of options on the market… What a shame! Will do more reading tonight. Can spend more, but would be very happy to get something that ticks most boxes for around the $2K if that's on offer!

  • +1

For anyone interested in getting this TV, you can try price matching at David Jones. I’ve done that today and the guy said they have ~10 units at their warehouse.

  • Bought Samsung 75 inch Q80 during black friday from good guys ebay store.
From this week seeing some black spots on right bottom side. Not liking it. The seller should replace it -right? Or should I ask for refund or replace with other model if not in stock?

Contacted them with pictures through ebay. Waiting for reply.

    https://ibb.co/CtTHpHt
    https://ibb.co/g6mkBLz

  • Not sure if the same issue will be with the 65 but I bought the 75 from JB during the last BF sales. The set had vertical banding and DSE so contacted Samsung and they replaced the set after a tech visit and a lot of arguing over the phone. The replacement set has the same issues and I have been told that they cant do anything, according to them the banding on panning shots is acceptable to them which shouldnt be, not for watching cricket or footy! They have refused a refund and now I will be stuck with the screen which I will never be happy with. Take a good look at the set before you buy as once seen you cant unsee the bands.

  • Off topic but anyone know how to get rid of the ads that keep popping up on the chanel/input selectors?
I have the qled from a couple years back. There's a channel/input selector where you put your inputs, and apps like 10play etc
Every now and then they put a square right in the 1st spot that is an ad. It's so annoying, they even installed and pinne an app and you have to go thru steps to remove it.
Obs I need internet access to use the playback apps so I can't block it.
