This is a reliable brand of authentic Malaysian packet sauces that sell at $3.20-$3.60 at the Asian grocery shops in my area. They are popular and often sell out and I have to wait for months to them to restock. In my opinion they can be better than some of the Malaysian eateries in Sydney. I was pleasantly surprised to see them at a cheaper price on Amazon. They have multi-lingual instructions on the packet.

  • Curry Chicken (Expired, now $3.40)- 1 pack is sufficient for 1.5kg chicken + 2 potatoes (if you like more potatoes, reduce the amount of chicken). You'll need coconut milk as well.
  • Rendang - says 25 mins, but it's better if you slow cook for longer so that the meat is softened and there is less liquid - it's meant to be a dry curry. Can't remember if the packet says add coconut milk or coconut cream and you'll need that. It also mentions adding 'kerisik' (a type of toasted coconut paste), but I've sometimes added a bit of toasted desiccated coconut when I don't have kerisik.
  • Curry Laksa (Expired, now $3.40) - I would say serves 3 as main.
  • Prawn Mee (Expired, now $3.40) - serves 3 as a main.

The curry chicken and rendang are easiest if you don't have easy access to an asian grocery store as you just need your meat/chicken, potato and coconut milk or cream - things you can get at a regular supermarket.

For those who are curious, they are around RM5 (~$1.65) in Malaysia

this is actually pretty good; very authentic and reminds me of my hometown KL.

    Isn't this the regular price?

  • Do you need to add curry leaves etc to enhance the flavour?

    • +1

For the curry chicken paste, curry leaves are already in the list of ingredients but I do add some only because i have a curry leaf tree. For the rendang you can add some kaffir lime leaves. Both optional.

  • +2

I know it says curry chicken but the packet is actually vegan and goes well with just vegetables including potatoes, and tofu puff.

  • This is the goooood stuff

If you want to make these kinds of things from scratch, there's good recipes on SBS. These two are in my regular rotation with the chicken one being a favourite of my daughter. They scale up really well and work great thawed from frozen. Sometimes they even go into the pie maker for something different.

    • Sounds ok, so do you have to add the MSG yourself then??

    • A Rendang pie sounds brilliant

  • Are these all spicy?

    • Yes they are, the rendang is the mildest out of all of them.

      • Which is the spiciest?

  • +2

I've used the laksa paste quite a bit, it's really nice. I go with 50% homemade chicken stock (heavy on south-east asian aromatics ; lemongrass, kaffir lime, ginger, garlic, onion and daikon), and 50% prawn stock using the shells and heads of the prawns i'll serve with the curry. A nice high fat coconut cream is also great.

Serve it with anchovy sambal, vietnamese mint, shredded chicken (cook it in the stock for a bit more flavour both ways), your choice of fish balls/tofu, sprouts/cucumber/cabbage and lime. Not really a fan of the boiled egg.

You guy's are making my mouth water =YUM

  • Chicken Curry version not available.

    • Nor is the Prawn Mee

  • I think its gone!

Tasty probably due to "Flavour Enhancer: E621" otherwise known as MSG..

    • +4

      There’s nothing wrong with MSG.

    • +1

What's the issue with MSG, or are you still going on about the 90s scare tactics that were used.

    • MSG is the essence of flavour.

    • +2

if you've had tomato sauce then you've had MSG. if you've had fresh tomatoes then you've had MSG.

      So weak, so weak.

My 'go to' for authentic home cooked Malaysian cuisine that I make from "scratch".

  • Not bad but i prefer the richmond brand for curry chicken paste.

  • Are these all vegan friendly?

    • The rendang paste doesn't look like it has any animal products in it.

    • Chicken curry one is vegan too

  • +1

The Chicken Curry one is VERY spicy…I can only handle half packet of paste per kg of chicken pieces!
    I know….I’m weak :(

  • I use this brand quite regularly in an instant pot. Makes excellent beef rendang and chicken curry. This is the regular price I pay from Amazon.

    • How do you get it not to burn at the bottom when you use instantpot?

      • +1

I followed a video on YouTube by a Flo Lum. Works a treat, a little water with the onions and deglazed it.

  • Grabbed some to try.

  • Looks like all OOS.

  • all OOS

Chuck these in a pressure cooker with some chicken drumsticks, serve with rice and you got a really cheap and tasty meal!

  • +1

This is also not a bad one to try if you are into green curry with bite.

Not only authentic taste they are bang for the buck.
One packet is enough for a family feast (for example curry 1.2kg chicken)

These are great. Use the rendang one but add lemongrass, powdered lemongrass and powdered galangal. So goood

Ex Malaysian here. Can vouch for these sauces. The chicken curry is restaurant quality.

  • Although the discount is good, with the comments here I'm gonna head to Asian grocer and try some at FULL PRICE. Makes me hungry just reading comments. Mmmmm

Why did you post this! Who knows when it will be back in stock!

    • Hopefully amazon will keep stocking these if there is demand for it.

  • I may have bought most of them as soon as I saw the deal lol.
Thanks for the tips from the other comments. Will add extra elixir of life (msg) to them to make me really feel in KL again

  • +3

Chicken curry back in stock. Dispatch in 2-4 weeks

  • +2

Just FYI was in my local Asian grocery today and they had this brand for $2.75 as their standard price, rather than the $4+ someone else suggested in here.

  • Rendang available on back-order.

  • Curry laksa, curry chicken, prawn noodles back in stock but now $3.40 :(

  • I regret not buying these as soon as I saw the post. Only rendang was left but it turned out great. Just ordered some more.

  • +2

Bought one pack of Rendang from a local Asian groceries for $2.90. It was very nice - way much better than the watery version from my local Malaysia.

    Order 5 packages from Amazon.

Available again for $2.12 for those subscribed to this thread.
