      • Wow, thanks for such a detailed response! So is there something in the 27inch range that you would recommend to maximize the series s?

I don't own this monitor. There are some appeals with monitors in this class.

The thing is, given that you are referring to Series S, it is not worthwhile to overspend. Even though I have a Series X, but if I were to own a Series S, I probably would pair it with a cheaper monitor. Thing is, there isn't a dirt cheap 1080p monitor with HDR support.

Maximise isn't something you are really after I reckon. Technically, to maximise it, a large 4K OLED TV, with HDR800 or HDR1000 + working VRR support is how one would maximise it. All it takes is 1 game (and even if that game does 4K on Series S, even for HUD elements (in game status bar, displays), then technically, it has 4K elements.

Ideally, it would be best to have a look at this monitor before you buy. Based on Microsoft's marketing, Series S is aimed at 2K gaming (even though in reality, it is more 1080p). Series S is for really cost effectively gaming. Avoid overspending.

      • VRR / G-Sync compatible (Free-Sync basically) does NOT work over HDMI. This is very common for monitors in this class.

Is this a limitation of the monitor, the Xbox, or VRR/Freesync itself?

  • The Scorptec price is $379 plus delivery.

      Added to title, thanks.

  • Any point buying if I have this samsung monitor currently? Thanks!

    • Nah

  • Will this monitor work with a MacBook Pro 2018 with windows OS? I have purchased the dell monitor from recent deal and it works on macOS but doesn’t display on windows.

  • Damn wish I hadn't bought the dell. Oh well cba to cancel that order and deal with the hassle.

    • Are you talking about the s2721dgf? Cause I also bought that but thinking of cancelling. Is there any hassle in cancelling?

      • Yes and I have no idea sorry. I don't know how far my order is with Dell as I haven't heard anything so I'm deciding to just leave it and wait for the Dell. It's still a better monitor so I'm not too bummed. This is a cracker of a deal though.

        • Hmm yeah fair. I just don't wanna wait a month lol

    • After tax return these 2 monitor cost will be similar

    • Ordered the Dell on the 1st. Some people received theres pretty quickly. I kinda wanna jump on this too

      • I think those people ordered the actual little stock they had. You and I will probably have to wait a month longer :/

  • Paid 419 in Dec

    • Could you let us know whether this monitor has an option called "Virtual 4K"?
It basically allows the monitor to take 4K/60Hz input and the monitor would downscale it to 2K.

      • Couldn't find anything in the settings regarding so not sure

        • Maybe under Gaming, Super Resolution?

          • @netsurfer: Virtual Super Resolution if you're using AMD drivers.

VSR creates a “virtual monitor” that has a higher resolution than your actual monitor. You can then select that higher resolution in-game, and let your graphics card scale it down to your actual monitor resolution.

Nvidia calls it something else, think Dynamic Supersampling or something similar. It's a driver setting.

            • @scrimshaw: This is a different feature.. will send you a PM.

              • +1

@netsurfer: Oh right. Derp, i misread and thought you wanted to force the display to render PC games at a higher resolution than it natively supports. the Downscaler feature appears to be tricking a Ps5 into sending a 4k output into a 1440p monitor.

going by this Reddit thread it appears the Gigabyte G27Q is in the list.

                • @scrimshaw: Thank you for helping confirm this; I was sure I wasn't going mad :P

  • Curse you again OZB for making me spend money that i shouldn't.

    • Main monitor died a day after ordering so I take this back, sorry OZBargain.

  • Was thinking of getting a cheap monitor 27" or so to use with a CC/Android box for IPTV. This is probably overkill.

    • Yeah a 32" actual TV is half the price.
And you get the bonus of a domestic TV tuner too.

Local TV is getting so darn good compared to 3 years ago; still not amazing, but once again worth a channel surf before you spend an hour on the Netflix menu arguing with yourself.

      • Yeah thing is i don't want it too big as on my desk, and dont need a tv tuner. No interest in local tv on it.

        • +1

32" is usually OK beyond about 40cm.

No interest in local tv on it.

          That still blows my mind.
I'm an early adopter of IPTV (2004 onward) big fan of worldwide TV channels and relays from asiaSAT1 and such.

But no matter how much I tried, getting local news was impossible.

Between relevant local content, 24/7 world movie channel, and a constant stream of adult animations, my IPTV viewing is dropping rapidly.

There's also the frustration of relay nodes dropping the channel stream (because as we know; they're usually illegal, re-broadcasting tv)

Curious though; what service do you use?
I have a hard time getting USA cable relays that don't drop out constantly.

          Man IPTV is cool though.

So many folks are stuck between local, and streaming.
It's a tech that never really exploded in popularity despite being super cool.
          Basically free worldwide cable.

          • @MasterScythe: Perhaps best move this to PM :)

            • @Xizor: I don't mind being public, I'm not too private about my TV habits; I'd love if multiple people chimed in actually; thanks though :)

              • @MasterScythe: I think I see why you have a hard time. IPTV does not live in the public. Anyway, all the best. :)

                • @Xizor: No no, it certainly does.

While a lot of the relays are privately run, the actual resulting stream is publicly available.

Even Optus had a very short try of it, before NBN though, so it caused all sorts of issues.

These days Indian public channels and most of Asia sat1 are easily watchable, but a few of the corporate streams are heavily scanned for, even if they're public in other countries.

But no, you certainly dont need to have a private subscription for IPTV, it certainly does live in the public space.

                  • -1

@MasterScythe: Yikes i did not mean it in a holistic literal sense, read between the lines mate lol

  • This or the Asus equivalent?

  • I jumped on this,
    Thanks!

  • Centrecom are now listing it at $399.

  • The price is back down to $379 at Centrecom. They can't make up their mind!
